I am one of those people who always complain and criticise. So now I have to say I loved this interview! The interviewer was phenomenal, what an interesting, smart and agreeable woman. Watch and learn people!
To be honest Ray Harryhausen's effects are still pretty good today. The skeleton battle (children of the hydra's teeth) in Jason and the Argonauts remains absolutely amazing to my eyes.
The making of the first Terminator is incredible story in itself, they shot the movie without permits to the places in guerrilla style, Cameron just prepped by himself studying and then pretty much just making a movie. Brilliant choices made like they looked for certain kinda streets to shot, because there was at the time used these certain kinda lamps that made the blueish hue to the many of the shots. Tons of little details like that which makes the movie creditable with it's budget and so the little they had could be mostly used for the couple big set-pieces. Just the casting of Arnold was so smart choice even tho it wasn't a thing to cast someone with such heavy accent to any movie (still really isn't).
Cameron decided that Arnold's "accent" could pass as a kind of robot voice, as if the machines could not get a human voice quite right. (Of course, if this is the case, one wonders why the accent totally disappears whenever the Terminator is imitating somebody else's voice ....)
J.C. L. Speaking as a language pedant myself, I’d be the first to congratulate you if you were making some kind of annoying, clever remark. But that just doesn’t make any sense. Look up the meaning of “unassuming” and report back.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Terminator, Aliens, Terminator 2, pretty much all of Cameron's oeuvre, but I wish he'd just admit that his inspiration for Terminator was from reading X-Men comics. He lifted the idea from the 'Days of Future Past' (Uncanny X-Men 141-142) storyline then even lifted the concept of living metal being frozen by liquid nitrogen (Uncanny X-Men 177). He's got talent, I just wish he'd admit that he was just following the old adage 'talent borrows, genius steals.'
He didnt. If anything he was influenced by Harlan Ellisons Outer Limits episode: Soldier. Besides, I think re-interpretation is always okay as long as new novel and creative concepts are introduced and influenced by what came before.
@@ECLECTRIC_EDITS Cameron himself said he absolutely didn't steal the idea from Ellison and denied any inspiration, maybe that was to avoid a lawsuit, but sure, maybe he did find inspiration from that. See my post. Pretty much everything in The Terminator (story-wise) was taken from earlier T.V. episodes and movies, even down to the dialogue. He didn't just "borrow" ideas, he outright stole them.
Interestingly, he completely brushed over the fact the main story of The Terminator and major parts of Terminator 2 are directly copied from previous movies and T.V. series. Here's a list of the ones I know of, so far: Scene where the Terminator is operating on his arm: The Twilight Zone (original series), episode "In His Image" (episode 103). Cyborg being sent back in time (and some other parts): "Demon With a Glass Hand". A 1964 episode of The Outer Limits. A soldier being sent back in time (there's more to it, but I don't want to ruing either story): Another 1964 episode of The Outer Limits, entitled "Soldier". The concept of a main computer system deciding all of humanity is a threat, so it sent out robots to kill them off: Taken from "The War Machines", from the original series of Doctor Who. (Incidentally, the Doctor went into a virtual reality, in the series. That virtual reality was called...you guessed it...The Matrix.) A whole lot of Terminator 1 and T2 were directly copied from a movie called "Cyborg 2087". In T1, where Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor are hiding under a bridge as they had a conversation about the future, their conversation is nearly word-for-word the same as on Cyborg 2087. (I can paste the original dialogue here, if anyone wants to know it.) The scene in T1, where the Terminator operated on his own arm, is also in Cyborg 2087. Lastly, the invention of Skynet. There's a 1970 movie called "Colossus: The Forbin Project". The entire concept of Skynet is exactly the same as the artificially intelligent Collossus computer in that movie. Specifically, Colossus was designed as a defence computer. It was designed to run everything, with no human input. Colossus decided humanity was a threat to itself… In Terminator 1, Kyle Reese’s story about Skynet turning against humanity was nearly word for word the same as a character from Colossus: The Forbin Project.
