    Angel's response to "You can have anyone in the village." was not rejecting Darla. He was stating that he would not take anyONE, he wanted to kill EVERYone.

    Darla is proud of Angel when he says that he is going to take the whole village. She wants to turn him into a monster. They are soulless vampires willing to turn the world into hell.

    A street name for PCP when I was growing up was "Angel Dust." Probably a coincidence in this case. (Ps oh they brought this up at the end. Cool)

    Actually, Mike, there is train service in LA. Union Station is the major hub (and a pretty cool place. You can see it in S1E1 of Agents of SHIELD.)

    10:12 Darla isn't jealous or thinks Angel is being a whore. She is enthralled at the fact that Angel wants to kill everyone in the village instead of just a few people. Hmmm Buffy a show for teenagers? .....

    "Good" and "evil" are societal constructs, which makes the whole idea of "moral truths" very slippery.

    • @becca1189
      @becca1189 22 дня назад

      Exactly. What's considered "moral" varies from one society to the next. Even what seems like the most obvious, killing, isn't universal. There are societies in which *not* killing someone to preserve the "honor" of one's family would be considered immoral. What's considered "moral" boils down to what a person believes: no reason or logic necessary. This is why I prefer ethics. At least when there's a disagreement over what is or isn't ethical the arguments are based on logic, reason, & empirical evidence. The bottom line being the thing one usually associates with the medical profession: do no harm. It's not always possible, there are things outside of our control (including other people). One can still do as little harm as humanly possible. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

    • @LeeCarlson
      @LeeCarlson 22 дня назад

      @@becca1189, you still need to define what constitutes "harm" and when that "harm" is for the greater good. The primary difference between morality and ethics is semantic. Much like the existence of a "social contract."

    Enjoyed. Really like this episode of Angel. LOL at no trains in LA when Union Station in LA is the busiest train hub in the Western US and has been filmed numerous times including Blade Runner, Bugsy, Catch Me if You Can, Drag Me to Hell (good Sam Raimi horror film), The Dark Knight Rises, The Way We Were.

    I said this already, but as an older watcher, I prefered Angel to Buffy the first time around.
    But I usually prefer Buffy reactions. Maybe because younger reactors don't have the same world view as I do and don't acknowledge the stuff that makes the show resonate with me. So thank you for making me feel seen! (Even if you are definitely not "old" reactors.)

    The Prodigal was another great Angel episode where we see Kate lose her father who had a shady past, and Angel just can't save him. The flashback episodes of Angel and in BTVS S5 onwards are brilliant for the arc of the stories. We see Darla turn Angel, and there when he emerges from the grave. A bit of a continuity error here in that in BTVS S1 E12 Welcome To The Hellmouth, Angel said he couldn't save Buffy as he had no breath, but when Angel as Liam returns from the grave in this episode we can clearly see his breath as he is gasping for air. A small point but interesting nonetheless. We see Liam, or Angel as his mother called him, as pure evil killing both his parents now truly soulless.

    Liam/Angel's birth year is officially announced as 26. Characters on BtVS only stated older (although we knew from the episode titled Angel that he couldn't pass as under high school). This shows the creepy situation of Angel stalking Buffy when she was 15; his reasons of wanting to protect her aren't justification to not make it creepy considering he ends up dating her by 16, which he does behind Joyce's back, then when Buffy is 17 Angel sleeps with her. Age of consent in California is 18. None of this adds to the fact that Angel's vampire years are 247 in vampire years and 273 overall (not adding on however long he spent in hell between S2 and S3 of BtVS. With all this information Bangel was a more disturbing relationship than Buffy could ever admit because she was an underage "swoony little schoolgirl" despite trying to deny it.
    After Angelus kills Liam's family, Darla is saying to Angelus that he may have killed his father, but the hold his father had will never give him closure. Therefore Angelus is forced to be confronted with Liam/Angel's daddy issues for eternity. My head canon is that this is where and why Angelus got such a sadistic mean streak and issues against emotions in general, to the point that even The Judge from BtVS' _Innocence_ deems him "clean" with "no humanity."
    I didn't see the security system as ever working as what happens will always be the outcome. Cordelia was being naive and unintentionally only thinking in terms of human bad guys. Demons are rarely going to try and be sneaky. And if so the security system is only going to call the cops, who might not know of the dangers they will be facing and probably arrest Angel, Cordelia, and Wesley for what they may end up seeing.
    Self contained episode had me laughing considering this episode is so character driven we learn huge character driven moments about Angel. I suppose Mikey was referencing plot. But considering Mikey immediately starts talking about Trevor Lockley's death being a big plot pivot made him saying "Self-contained episode" amusing to me.
    22:20-23:30 _Buffy the Vampire Slayer_ is a coming-of-age TV Show, where as _Angel the Show_ is about adulthood. It's that simple. Some fans say this show is darker in trying to explain it, but that doesn't hit the point, as well.
    Part of the reason for the abundance of crossovers early on was because the crew didn't know if AtS could and/or would last and wanted Angel and Cordelia to have a place on BtVS to come back to if AtS was canncelled. With the show supporting itself, the characters don't need to be as dependant on Sunnydale characters.

      Self contained for us, in Mikey terms, means the episode starts and ends with the plot. Everything seemingly is tied up by the end, besides Kates grief.
