I DREAMED A DREAM
FANTINE:
I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high and life worth living.
I dreamed that love would never die,
I dreamed that God would be forgiving.
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted.
There was no ransom to be paid,
No song unsung, no wine untasted.
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder.
As they tear your hope apart,
As they turn your dream to shame.
He slept a summer by my side,
He filled my days with endless wonder.
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came.
And still I dream he'll come to me,
That we will live the years together.
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather.
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living,
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.
Thanks for watching! - Видеоклипы
The pure emotion in her voice is incredible. Every time i hear this i can't help but tear up.
Brought tears to my eyes, I need to hear Susan Boyle.
#Same
#Agonizing.
lol
Life is difficult and this song is something we can all relate to.
At 77, this song is extremely difficult to listen to. I haven't wept during a song for a long time, but here words and memories intersect, and I have no choice.
ooooo my heart
x-man forever are you ok?
x-man forever do you need some one to talk to you
I hope you are doing well.
rip xman 😥
She totally deserved the Oscar.
I'll never forget her singing this in the movie. Exceptionally remarkable.
Movie name?
@@muhammadahmed2611 Les Miserables
Still gives me chills when I see this scene
She captured the heart wrenching reality of hope, love, betrayal, and profound solitude in a way that broke my heart so thoroughly... She did a great service to art with her sacrifices and contribution to bring this character to life.
i love anne's version not cause she sang it the best and had the best technique but because she captured the emotion of the song perfectly. just listening to it makes my heart break... when i watched her performance (which was filmed live), i was moved to tears that wouldn't stop
I dont think you realize that its not just about her singing being "good" as you see it. Her acting on her face as well as the emotion in her voice is perfect. Absolutely perfect. this is good singing because you can feel it.
How poverty is the cruelest murderer of them all.
+Gra Piken
Concordo inteiramente!
É triste a impotência da dor e sofrimento.
Graças que o mundo tende a melhorar.
Precisamos acreditar no bem da humanidade.
A cada geração seu próprio mal, mas evoluindo constantemente...
Abração!
Tigrão Tony sorry. I don't understand
Gra Piken
Hello, Hello... google translator
I totally agree!
I feel sadness...
Pain and suffering in our world
Good that world has improved.
We need to believe in the goodness of all humanity.
For every generation evil itself, but always evolving for good ...
A big hug!
(Is it Portuguese) Brazilian
Tigrão Tony thank you. Big hugs to you. Take care
Not poverty, per se, cruelty and abuse of power. It even happens to the rich and powerful.
*_life has killed the dream I dreamed_*
Yay! a phandom member that also like Les Miserables

The lower tone actually makes this rendition more touching and soft.
She put the exact emotion of this song. Its hard not to cry and feel the pain that she been through.
Christ people, this is a play about a period in time. This isnt about how grand their voices are, its about them HAVING voices. That is the entire movie, it is about standing up for your beliefs and having a voice. Not everyone is the next pop star, doesnt mean they cannot sing. What kind of world do we live in? One where one cannot sing because their voice isnt to YOUR standards? sad....
She can't sing
fat Man You're fat lol
XD I can't argue with that
I am so confused about what this comment is abput
I like Bacon too! :D
She makes me cry!! *wipes tears*
Anne Hathaway really shocked me with her performance AND singing in this movie. The best part is she manages to sing this song perfectly while literally crying her heart out at the same time. Very well done, Anne! And congratulations on the Oscar!
Anne may not be a great singer, but this is probably how the song would sound, if it was actually sung by Fantine.
So in terms of capturing the meaning and raw emotion and despair of the song, this is clearly the benchmark from now on.
I agree totally
Pamela Walker
Oh, good. I've seen Les Miserables several times on the stage, but you never get up close and "personal" with the performers that way.
Film is different, of course, and when you add a performance like Anne's into the mix, it's simply overwhelmingly powerful.
teppolundgren
agree this is how it should sound......in the film.....overwhelming....great
I agree. It's a sincere voice conveying the human experience of life, broken by poverty.
agree with u 👍👌
Absolutely a brilliant performance this was Anne's best movie and she absolutely deserved that Oscar this is just beyond beautiful
I've never seen anything like Anne Hathaways damaged/triumphant/wistful/crest fallen/tear filled rendition of Fantine crying out 'I dreamed a dream'. She opens her heart and owns a song sung by so many others before her. In 4 minutes she makes you believe in hope/love/anger and desperation. One Oscar doesn't seem enough!
"welcome to the salty spittoon, how tough are you?"
"how tough am i? i'll have you know that i listened to fantine singing 'i dreamed a dream' last week, and i only cried for 20 minutes"
A well deserved Oscar Award for Anne Hathaway. The line "He took my childhood in his stride!" gets me every time! It felt like someone squeezing my heart. No other version of this song has made me cry.
I like this version soo soo soo much better. When I listen to Susan's version, I admire her voice, but when I listen to this version, I admire the emotion put into it and how the song comes to life and connects with the audience. As a song, this version bits the other.
*beats and HELL YEAH YOU ARE RIGHT
Every scene Anne was in made my heart break. She was AMAZING. To sing this live while filming, hit the notes AND stay in character. Done. I can't handle the wonder that is Anne Hathway.
I think part of the reason she is able to put so much power and feeling into her singing is that she really loves the character of Fantine and thinks about her pain. When she got her award she mentioned other women who are in similar positions - starving and forced into prostitution - and I have to think that she was probably thinking of them when she performed this song.
Her voice quality isn't great, but the emotion put behind it is absolutely moving. Amazingly dramatic, but not overbearingly so, and the feeling was real. Solely because of the outstanding acting, I consider this to be one of the best versions of this song.
Actually, the consistency of the vibrato and the volume/intensity control takes serious talent, and she possesses that talent. Maybe the tone is harsh at times, but that's purposeful to portray the emotion....I don't understand what you think is wrong with her voice.
This is amazing. But the reason why the vocals in the theatre version have less emotion because the song actually takes place after she gets kicked out of the factory. Not after the prostitution.
+Bella “actskilledtalent” Alesandrini it makes more sense for her to be having this freak out after essentially being raped/coerced into having sex
Cathryn Martin 0rgümoridleri
Yep, this is a song you have to "Cantar con las gripas." That counts more than the singing technique. That being said, if anyone wants to hear the song sang amazingly well AND with the raw emotion, hear Susan Boyle's rendition
Anne Hathaway's version of this song is the best one I have ever heard. It gave me chills and made me want to cry just because of all the emotion she conveys. Bravo girl! Bravo!!
What a heart-wrenching performance. I can't help but think of all the people who, like Fantine, are being used and abused for someone else's pleasure. May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ have grace on the victims and give courage to those who are rescuing them.
I have always hated Hathaway but after watching Les Miserables her performance is one of my all time favorites. This song is not about the best and clearest voice, it's about portraying emotion and the way her voice breaks and the sobbing between the lyrics makes this such a heartfelt and emotional performance. when she sings "I had a dream my life would be" that combination of crying and singing, it is truly amazing.
best version ever , can really feel the sadness she gone through.
Or when she sings "He took my childhood in his stride"
wow. Guys who sleep round and make girls think they're in love to get in their beds and then LEAVE them better feel guilty every time they hear this song
Damn right
This was the most emotional, heartfelt, and powerful performances of this song that I have ever heard. She may not get an oscar for it, but the song itself stands all by itself. It is a testament to the an actor that has embraced her craft, and given all of herself to a part. Thank you.
she is an A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. actress and singer. I am a musician too but I don't get people who say it wasn't good musically - because it was amazing. Singing through tears is INCREDIBLY difficult and impossible for average singers. And with this amount of emotion she still had great technique and power. I am beyond impressed, this is just... God. Truly beautiful. She's got one hell of a gift.
Not the best performance if you judge solely on the quality of the singing, but as a performance within the context of telling the story, and conveying the emotion of a woman who has lost everything she holds dear, it is by far the best I've ever seen or heard.
But it really does work better in the film than strictly audio.
The director must have been like thank you thank thank you this is so awesome thank you. :)
+TheBoyIsNoOne haha true
Life has killed the dream I dream
I hope she wins tomorrow, this is a so fantastic performance! I am crying every single time I hear it. She touches my heart.
Oh I just can't with her, she took me there. It's amazing. And all of you saying she can't sing? She's not a singer, she's an actress, ACTING as if she can sing. Notice she also sang with an accent that she does not speak w/. All an act. And a good one at that. She deserves every possible award for that performance. A true thespian.
Anne's spectacular performance brought raw emotions flooding back to me. She sang that from her heart & soul. So breath taking.
What A masterpiece ❤️✌️I came here... After hear this song in Lucifer...
Same lol
This might not be the best version, but it almost brought me to tears. Great job Anne!
Ok. Anne Hathaway is not a singer, but this is *BY FAR* the best, more passionate, empathic, emotional, great, sublime, unique interpretation I have EVER heard of "I Dreamed A Dream", ever.
She may not have the voice, she may not sing well, that is totally irrelevant.
She has been able to give voice to the feeling of the character, in a way that very few can.
a breathtaking song + a breathtaking actress.
a magical combination that made everyone in the cinema cry like hell..
i hope there will be more movies like Les Miserables in 2013. really...
The whole time whilst watching the Les Miserables, I kept getting chills, and cried buckets
I can't listen to this without crying. Anne was absolutely AMAZING! The emotion she shows not only by expressions but even in her voice it just fantastic. I hope she wins Best Supporting Actress :3
She might not have a brill voice but the passion and the emotional feelings she sung this song with...no words for it, if there was a person that seen this performance that didn't cry I will be amazed. I know a big Welsh man that only saw her performance ((nothing else of the film) he cried.
Best bit of acting I've seen in a long, long time. Everyone sat in the cinema open-mouthed when this came on, very powerful and moving.
Amazing!!!!, This has to be the very best version of this song I have ever heard..Wow Wow Wow!. Thank you for uploading
I am a musician as well and I felt the exact same way.
The very first time I saw the film, I truly hated. Musically, the film felt VERY weak from being used to hearing it on stage. The more I saw it, I began to understand the approach, which was to put a visual idea upon the music and to make it sound real.
I studied the performances and understood that the approach was not to get a belt out of the characters, but more to communicate through melodies, which Anne did VERY well.
I have seen the stage version of Les Miz 8 times and therefore many Fantines. The first time I saw the play, the actress who played Fantine had me in tears with her interpretation. However, as the years went on, it seemed that the actresses were singing to the audience rather than reflecting on the life of Fantine. This is the strength of the song... the fact that Fantine is looking back on what went wrong in her life. In the play, the song comes just after her firing from the factory...
I just saw this (literally i just got back from the theatre) and i must say, im suprised it didnt win best picture. that was so touching. i was crying at the end, and i never cry. Anne hatheway was superb, and so was the rest of the cast. Hugh Jackman was brilliant, and i had no idea russel crowe could sing like that. i gotta say, i thought i would hate les mis, but it was brilliant. So is this song
I cannot even imagine anyone else singing this song better than her.
Susan Boyle
***** Susan Boyle second for me though
Susan is really great. But I think Anne is so mutch better.
i think susans is better tbh. I skate to this song and its by susuan.

One take, open mike, extraordinary, ingenue, leading lady, the pinnacle of her young career, with Oscar gold to validate Brava Ms. Hathaway.
Anne Hathaway deserved all the accolades. She was brilliant in the movie. Very talented.
GO Anne!
We're playing this our marching band show and it's awesome.
Cute profile pic 💜

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO ANNE!!! THE DREAM CAME TRUE!!!!
I just say this movie tonight. Anne's preformance gave me chills. i had tears rolling down my face during almost the entire film. I adore this movie
this song is so touching, so raw and emotional. I cry everytime I hear this song I never want to stop listening because it is one of the only songs that has perfectly described the hardships of life and Anne Hathaway I give you a million thumbs up for adding even more emotion to this song SHE HAS BROUGHT IT TO LIFE!
k, thnks jacksfilms
Trigger warning: contains feels and ____ music
(that's a joke)
anne has done a good job even she is not a musical stage singer! one of the best performances in her career
I love the emotion in her voice. It's so beautiful and pure, she didn't even stop the recording to hold back her emotion. Priceless. Perfect song.
Essa música é simplesmente incrível! A letra fantástica e que não precisa ser traduzida para ser sentida. Les Miserables de longe uma das obras que mais transcendem a existência humana.
Goosebumps
The emotion in this song is amazing and I couldn't ask for any better
Breathtaking performance from Anne Hathaway. My emotions ran high with tears falling from my eyes. Fantastic Anne. I keep watching their sing this song.
I dreamed a dream in time gone by

Thank you.
Uma das melhores letras que já li e ouvi em minha vida. Ela é chocante, mexe com teu ser, te faz chorar e refletir "nos sonhos que a vida destruiu".
Uma obra prima que deve ser desfrutada sem moderação.
Concordo
I have heard this song probably a thousand times, but this is my first time hearing Anne's version of it (I haven't even seen the movie yet). This. Video. Brought. Me. To. Tears.
Anne is such a great singer in this movie she puts her soul into it and she's a amazing actress. I love her..
This is America today
This is life. Remember it before you decide to create more.
3:52 = Oscar glory. Fuck everyone else. My endorsement counts.
AGREED 100% singing with tears takes away most of your range! She was amazing
I think Anne Hathaway is absolutely amazing, not only is this best version of this song, but also when you actually see it in the film and the way she plays this character and the emotion she puts into it is by far one of the most moving scenes not just in this films, Anne is truly fantastic
Rip pewdiepie's eyes "He took my childhood in his AAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHH"
That's all I thought of when I heard that

She sings it with so many emotions... This song is as sad as it should be. Anne did a really great job.
Congrats, Ann!!!! You were absolutely WONDERFUL in this film... BRAVO.. you made me cry with your heart-wrenching song.. amaaaazing.
thanks jacksfilms
i watched the old les misearables
yesterday
This part of the movie was absolutely beautiful!!!! Anne perfected this song in ways that had never been done before. All this emotion and talent deserves to be heard and respected. Bravo Anne and keep up the good work!
She actually did won an oscar for this role, and well deserved. The scene she sung this broke my heart...
Catwoman better than Susage Boyle.

Bad day?

Cool cool.
It's such a beautiful version. Not perfectly sung - she's not a singer, after all - but with the perfect emotion for this song.
Thank God that I have the movie. Anne Hathaway deserved that Oscar. My granny, mom, and I were so happy that she won. The emotion that her character Fatine went through were painful. I cried so hard when she sang that song.

Anne Hathaway version sucks. She just cannot sing. But that's okay; she's an actress. Long hair preferred :) Ruthie Henshall is the gal who did it best!
+Tyler Pepper
You are right. Just as all those who waited for Anne Hathaway to 'explain' to them what a musical is.
I agree she was shit. Most of them were. Actors act, singers sing.
I had forgotten that they die in the musical, and cried like a baby when she sang this amazing cover. Sure, Salonga can out sing her anytime in stage for sure, but this live version was amazing too.
This is a piece of art. The way the lyrics were in tune with the words sung. I love this version of my favorite song from Les Miserables.
I'm so happy for her, that she got to perform this role and finally put to rest all of her naysayers. She is a truly gifted actress.
this movie was very good....I love how each actor contributed so well to this movie....love them all!!!
she absolutely deserve that Oscar. !!!!! job well done.
Just caught my first showing yesterday in NYC, the 2:40PM showing. This movie, song, and Anne Hathaway are magnificent.
Agreed. I'm always in tears by the time she sings the lyrics "...as they turn your dreams to shame."
Wow! I just love this, thanks for posting.
Best version I've seen on RUclips, keep up the good work.
I absolutely agree.
and just, the emotion, and sounding like it is real.
it isnt fake, almost like she isnt even acting,
like, the song truly got to her in such a serious, deep manner that she didn't act, she really felt that this song was her life.
absolute brilliance, the emotion put into it.
i am so glad i saw this movie in the cinema.....
one of the best motion pictures...
from novel, to stage, to motion picture...god bless Les Miserables...so beautiful.
Anne well deserved the oscar for the raw emotion she portrayed so well in this film. Not the greatest singer ever, but a wonderful emotional performance. Congratulations
Great production, thanks for the effort and the share xx
YES SHE IS!! her voices are so BANG! this song full of something spirit in it!
Anna ,Le Miserable and the song meant to be together to make such outstanding company..the song already can kill me so speechless indeed
All you muse nerds are to narrow minded in your critics, you don't realized what an outstanding performance Anne gave. To flood the song with emotions and feelings, that allows the audience to connect with Fantine. All you criticize is her vocal performance, but you neglect to see her acting performance and so in miss the beauty of her performance. I am by no means an Anne Hathaway fan, but this performance from her deserves and oscar.
this rendition is just oozing emotion , love it
i thought she did amazing.. i wasn't expecting a perfect performance. This movie wasn't about perfection. The actors and actresses did such an amazing job portraying the emotions of the characters, ESPECIALLY Anne. She did amazing, end of story.
