Dr. Sam, I have to thank you for mentioning The Ordinary azelaic acid. I ordered it after I watched this video and am blown away by my results. I’ve had small bumps on my cheeks for 4 years (diagnosed by my derm as milia) but nothing helped them disappear. I ordered this and within 3 days the bumpy appearance had softened and after 5 days they started to go away (note: I didn’t have this success with the Paulas choice formula possibly because of the bha it contains). It’s really helping with redness and dryness, as well. This morning, I ordered 2 backups. My skin keeps getting better every day and I have you to thank. I may have to make another appointment (with a different derm, perhaps) and ask if what I’m experiencing is actually rosacea.

I have been using a prescription retinoid for over a year and was really hoping it was going to help me with my deep pre menopausal nodal acne . It did wonders though for my fine lines and I did notice a huge difference in my pores which have incredibly shrunk but unfortunately did not help with my hormonal acne whatsoever . Then one month ago I started a 20% azelaic acid and OH MY ! I am in love with this. From the moment I started I started seeing a decrees in size of my nodule acne. Within 10 days gone and I'm talking about a farm of pimples around my jaw line and chin , plus I was battling with heaps of contact dermatitis all over my jawline, chin and all under my jawline around my neck and that all gone in less than ten days. Not only has my skin completely cleared up , I also have not had a single breakout in three weeks. My skin texture is baby smooth, I can't believe how even and smooth it feels and the brightness and luminosity is real with this stuff. Lucky for me I live in Australia and the 20% azelaic acid is sold over the counter for $12 such a bargain. I have been using it twice a day and in the evening I put it on just before my retinoid. Honestly the first two nights skin felt a little itchy but now my skin tolerates mixing the two together. I got my daughter on it also and she started seeing immediate effects and loves it. It's out favourite skin care product by far.

A Wonderful video. We are long time friends with aza, i’ve been using it for few years and i strongly agree with all your reasons but two of them are worth pointing even more:
    1. Aza alone doesn’t keep my acne at bay. It calms my skin for sure and after a night with aza i always notice reduction of inflamation (if i have any active spot), but to stay spotless i need to use aza and bpo (retinoids and retinol makes my skin angry).
    2. Aza definitely improve apearance of the skin. When i use aza my skin look just better. Nothing sparkling, but kind of more even toned, more radiant, more smooth, more calm.

I have been to many different (4-5) dermatologists for years. They gave me many different expensive creams and nothing helped my cystic acne (such as dalacin c and benz. Perox.). I also took isotretinoin for years and each time I would stop taking it, the acne came back each time stronger. The only thing that helped a bit is the pill. I use the one from Ordinary at the moment and find it helps to even out my skin tone. However progress with PIE seems slow. I used in the past Skinoren which I found more effective for acne management however was quite tingling and gave me quite a lot of dryness.

I always skip any video from azelaic acid because it does not interest me. Now I watch it benefits... I think it is definitely worth a try! My skin does not heal as quick as before and hyperpigmentation takes too long to heal like months even if it is just 2 or 3 acne and big pores 🥲 tried tretinoin but I feel like it dehydrated me.

Thanks for this video, very helpful! I’m very fair and in my early 40’s. I’ve been using (The Ordinary) Azelaic acid suspension for a while and it’s definitely helped my slight rosacea and acne. I also use (The Ordinary) Ascorbic acid instead of typical ‘vitamin c’ and was advised that I shouldn’t use it with Azelaic acid. Would you recommend that too? I use it on alternate nights with retinol at the moment. Also, I use marula oil some nights too and I never know whether to use it last, as it’s an oil.

What kind of issues you have ? Severe acne, red bumps, etc? I heard this is very good for those kind of issues, but you must be patience. Also, it can be use with others except for certain ingredients depends on the individual. The only way is to test it out yourself if it works for you or not. Good luck.

I have a question for you. I have never used retinol but recently I included into my rutine bakuchiol. I wanted to ask, if is safe to use also azelaic acid into the rutine in combination with bakuchiol. If yes, in which order should I use them-azelaic first, then bakuchiol or the other way around?
    Thank you. :)

The ordinary is super helpful on their messenger, I asked this exact question, and then ended up just telling them all the products I had and they gave me a whole day and night routine with tips!

First time using it, the sensation i experience is more weird than when first time I use retinol weeks ago.
I can feel the burning and itchiness more than retinol it does go away more quickly tho, but then again you mentioned about the wind. I'm wondering is the wind can affect as well when I'm applying this ingredient, because I do turn on my fan in my room at the time I'm using it.
Anyway thank you so much for the advice, you're the best!
