Just got tretinoin prescribed (I've been using retinol 1% nightly for a few weeks after building up) and I really appreciate this reminder about taking it slowly.
Amazing tips. My first six months on tret I went super slowly and buffered with a thick cream every time. I recently switched to a no-buffer application and haven't experienced any redness or irritation. Some slight peeling around the mouth but nothing too annoying. Going slowly truly is the key! I've been on tret for 9 months and my skin has never looked so good.
That's what I did, but for 12 weeks. First I applied it every other night over moisturizer for six weeks, then every night for another six. I had some purging but no redness. After that I applied directly on cleansed skin. The glow was remarkable!
Do tretenoin 0.025 reduces open pores my skin is oily and it's been 10 days Iam using alternatively.. with this usage Iam getting more open pores and existing ones are becoming larger..why is this happening
Yep, tret is great, but it's a *lot* more finicky to use when compared to OTC options. I used retinol with great results for over a decade before trying tret, and I still have to be very careful with dosing. Mixing a pea-size or less into a carrier cream is the method that works best for me, and it allows for easier downtitration in case it gets too intense.
Thank you for this very useful video. I have been using retinol for a long time, I mix a small amount with few drops of water in the palm of my hand, mix it with my finger tip and then apply all over my face, this makes it easier to apply and prevents spot irritation. I would like to know if the water prevents or reduce absorption. Thank you 🙏
Hi dr sam, could you also make a video about home treatments such as led mask( which nm make sense to treat which kind of issues as well as using led device with serums etc.)pore vacuum cleaner, hydra facials and nuface dupes? Thank you my dear and have a nice day
I have been wanting to try something more then just a night cream on my face for yearsss..but I live in the Mediterranean and I love to tan,so that's my biggest problem..I think it's a waste to start up something, invest time and money only to stop for four months and then start up again!!! Lol💖💋💖 Take care Y'all
I spent too much money for too long trying to get results from retinol. Tretinoin, on the other hand, improved my skin within a couple of weeks. I started at .02%. After 14 months, I'm of gradually working up the dosage, I'm now at .05%.
@@laylajennings7426 Everyone told me insurance wouldn’t pay for tretanoin but mine did. Just ask your dermatologist. I was there for skin cancers on my face and neck. I got it for hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone.
Hi Dr Sam, I am currently using 2% Granactive Retinoid and would like to move a step up, what product would you recommend? My skin is combination with tendency to get dehydrated. Thank you :) xxx
I've been on Tret o.o5% for 4 months. I have no stinging anymore and it's going very well.. but the peeling! The peeling is still pretty bad! Unsightly but not sore. I guess it's still early days.
So I just went through 2 months of purging with salicylic acid and I’m gonna wait a couple weeks before trying retinol - am I gonna purge a lot when I do? Even though I just went through it for my salicylic acid cleanser?
I have a bit of rosacea so I started with retinol 0.1 this summer, gonna go 0.3 next month all through winter, 0.5 next spring, etc... I'm in no hurry! Everyone is talking about tret but for now it scares me way too much :(
@@zohraupama9444 Hi! Started with Paula's Choice 0.1 then 0.3 and now I'm using Avène that has Retinal (we don't have retrinal here but they have other products)
My worst retinol mistake was using retinol without sunscreen. I knew better but I just forgot it. So that spring sun burned my skin. So stupid mistake!
Burned my face off in October with over exfoliating with salicylic acids, Benzoate peroxide, charcoal…you name it. Needless to say, after the burns healed, I have a million sebaceous filaments. How the heck do I get rid of those things? Ugh
I had a bad irritated spot near my eye. Now I apply vaseline around the eyes like she said and do not put the retinol there. It also keeps it from creeping to near the eyes.
I got a couple of two small dry, mildly red patches after retinoid. Question is, apart from moisturising them, they won't leave a mark/scar after healing, do they?
4:45 This intrigues me very much! 🤔🙂 I'm very curious to know if retinasation has an explanation based on cell mechanism, or if it's just a conclusion based on observation? I wonder about it since "skin getting used to" isn't a thing for other products/ingredients 😬
I started using benzoyl peroxide two months ago. I'll be reaching my third-month mark in a week. A month after bpo, I started to have results and that was when I started to use alpha arbutin with ascorbic acid in the morning. I only used it because it's about to be expired in a month. 2 weeks after using aa+aa, I started to break out again. I stopped it immediately but even after a month the breaking out is still ongoing. The bpo doesn't seem to work anymore since I purged from vitamin c. I thought of adding adapalene to my routine, but I don't know how to incorporate it. It could be too irritating for my skin while I use bpo. should I completely stop bpo and incorporate it later on once my skin gets used to adapalene or can i start using adapalene while still using bpo?
I’ve been using Adapalene too but I’ve just purchased 0.03% encapsulated retinaldehyde (one of the lowest strengths) and least irritating form of retinoid. I prefer to start slow and work my way up than have irritation. I’ll see how it goes and if it’s any better than adapalene (as I do like it).
Is 65 yo too late to start prescription tretinoin ?. I just started Avene RetrinAl every 3rd day in preparation for going on a monthly service using your techniques. Also, do you recommend an LED mask along with Retinols? I love all your videos esp. those on this topic. 💛
It's less strong than retinol. The ordinary do all the retinoid and retinol products. I think Caroline Hirons has a RUclips video on this. But yes, if you want to go stronger than a retinoid like the Granactive retinoid, you them go on to low strengths of retinol and work up.
Help Help Help!!!! 😭😭 🚨 🚨🚨 I have been dealing for like 3 months now with a weird thing around my mouth upper and lower lips 👄, my face is extremely dry in that area, it looks like scalp flakes, like a dermatitis seborreica but around my mouth. I was using Paula’s Choice retinol, doing a chemical exfoliation once a week and using Niacinamide too. And my entire face was amazingly smooth but this area became like this. Now I stopped using everything bc I’m afraid and my entire face is a mess again and this area it’s so dry, it looks like a herpes 😩😖 I don’t know what to do anymore. I have try to put oils and moisturizer’s but my face looks dry after 10 minutes and flaky again, i can see already a little hyperpigmentation around the area too . I’m desperate ! I apply tret 4 days a week - sat, sun, tues, thurs. It works for me and it’s easy to remember.
I just got irritation from using too much. Thanks for the better explanation of pea size as being half of finger tip joint!
“sandwich” method is what really helped me with irritation
Just heard of this

How to combine retinol with azelaic in the routine?

It accelerates the skin turnover ( amongst other things) so that's why we start peeling. It can also be very irritating
