Just came across your videos in the last few days. I have given up on having any particular kind of body aesthetic, the shape of my back and ribs is very unhelpful for pursuing aesthetics. I am 58 and am noticing as the years go by that I am putting on weight, losing strength and just generally not feeling so well and healthy. I do not want to continue in that direction, at times my work can be physically demanding so I need strength and stamina. My focus is strength, stamina, flexibility and general well-being. I love the dsy acronym, makes me smile, but sound advice also. I enjoy your common sense and practical approach, keep up the good work. Blessings and thanks again.

As a 64 year old who has exercised since 16 I approve of Pav's message. I lifted for years not as a bodybuilder but as a strength athlete. The lifting has become too hard to recover from so I'm taking up Calisthenics.

There is a lot of evidence to suggest hiit or fartlek once a week is good to build vo2 max which is correlated with reduced mortality from all causes. Heavy weight traing reduces osteoporosis and muscle mass should not be lost during aging (or through dieting) to protect from the greatest danger to the older person; falls. Having said all that, I totally agree that we should not aim to be super heros with olympic sprinter physiques unless your a pro sport athlete who needs muscle bulk. Also, some people, like my brother in law have more muscle definition with minimal effort. I am naturally skinny while my partner stores more fat across her body naturally no matter how much she exercises....I'm enjoying the channel. Very true and inspiring. I totally agree and confirm that piles of muscles are not sexy. To me, men with tattoos and huge muscles are the less sexy of all. Unfortunately, that trend doesn't seem to want to go away. Hopefully, videos like yours will inspire others and make them realize how stupid following trends is. Continue the good work. This exquisite 78 year body I have had the privilege of inhabiting has been loved and appreciated through the decades with merry making movement (all kinds) whole foods and good thoughts. Lucky me! Many people actually loath their bodies (and themselves) so push and punish them under the guise of getting better. It is not sustainable or health inducing. It turns out like you said, the guys they interviewed couldn't rate their own bodies over 7 out of 10. But when the team showed the pictures of those guys to some random girls, they all agreed that the guys were already built enough. We're in the era when guys got body image issues,too...

While I agree that there are ideas that some people may buy into without thinking, I also think that all options should be available for those wanting to make those decisions-be it informed or uninformed. The dangers of steroids are widely researched and all the information is accessible to the public, therefore it's one's responsibility to look into the matter and make an educated decision-those that choose to ignore looking into the effects and side effects of PEDs won't watch this video.
That's the problem with culture, we buy into certain ideas without thinking. And this is specially true for young kids, who haven't had a chance to realise that they are under an influence of a odourless, colourless gas of ideology. I really think the decisions should be made informed, not uninformed. This bulky fitness obsession is pretty damaging. Bodybuilders are doing it as a sport (and paying the price) and why should we all be chasing this body type? Ugh!
I attend an old gym that is a key gym, I can train anytime of the day and play with the weights, stretch in privacy. I like exertion, I'm 62 now and the older I get...the better I was! I don't like the modern body building culture, have never taken steroids and I just try to keep a balance in all of life's pursuits. You know, I remember the story of the 104 yr. old guy getting hit and killed. I work in a hospital and in my opinion, if God calls me up to the big show at 104! by pedestrian vs. motor vehicle it, would be a kind way of going Mr. Anthropologist. God bless.

When it comes to aesthetics, I guess I just want to fit well in my clothes. However, my primary goals are to maintain my strength and cardio as I age.
Than also have a look at the High Intensity Worth the Risk video. There are things to be aware of about high intensity exercise as we get older.
