How old soccer is as a sport is totally irrelevant. Using this reason to call the comparison a "false equivalence" is just so wrong.
Consider a ping pong tournament in china where Chinese province's franchisees organize players playing each other, and there's is no franchise outside of China participating. It would be very weird for Chinese people to call the winning franchise as the world champion.

Whereas the NBA was founded in 1946 with the first fiba match happening in 1950, and the rest of the world never even took basketball somewhat seriously until the late 80’s/90’s. So no, we don’t care about yall semantics of naming who’s a world champion. The NBA has been around longer than the Fiba tourney and has been more competitive throughout its existence. USA throws their Jv squad into the fiba tourneys every 4 years but just cuz yall want it to count for something important doesn’t make it so. FIBA is not as important as FIFA.

but ego and self-centeredness is exactly what is going on here. There are many other countries who dominate certain sport (like China and ping pong). No other country would hold a national tournament with team from its cities, and call it world championship. It is exactly the stereotypically American self-centeredness.

Once again the self-centeredness. Other countries follow each other's conventional semantics so they can communicate effectively. They create semantics like "international competition/champion" and "national competition/champion" that almost all countries agree on.
US on the other hand, refers its own national/continental tournament with cities-based teams, as "world champion".
There are many other similar things like calling football soccer despite the international convention. Using empirical units despite international convention. The name "world series" when US rarely won baseball in summer Olympics. and when people from all other countries correctly points out the disadvantage of US's unusual and suboptimal convention/semantics. Some americans just respond with the self-centered "we don’t care"

The UEFA Champions League winners almost always win the Club World Cup Competition the following season which basically means they're the best football/soccer club team in the world, but they never call themselves world champions. Theres 2 countries in the nba. USA and Canada (Toronto Raptors). Which means the NBA is in fact an international league. Which means world champions is valid.
Except USA and Canada don't represent the world so you can't speak of a "world" champion.

In soccer there’s at least 5 NFLs, MLBs or NBA’s. They’re called the top 5 leagues and they are in France, England, Spain, Italy and Germany. Each country has an nba champion level team at the end of the season and none call theirselves the world champions. The European champions league is the biggest and most prestigious men’s club team competition in world soccer. And the winner is called European champion not world champion even when it’s obvious they’re the best team in the world. The world champs is only earned thru the World Cup. FIBA or Olympics is what should truly decide the world champs
It is MUCH harder to get a spot on an NBA roster than on an international basketball roster, and significantly more impressive. No team in the world could beat the NBA champs, and I don’t think anyone could seriously argue that point. That makes them world champions in my eyes.

But I am interested to know how much you weighed bad or good defence for your list because I think great defence can sometimes make up for offensive limitations like with guys like bam adebayo, AD, ant or even Tatum etc
