Your oldest daughter is right to distrust dealers and should never go to one of those places that does really cheap oil changes . You never know what junk oil they are putting in her car and how could she know they actually replaced the oil at all.
I took my 2016 Charger to one of those quick oil change places and they left off the removable shield. I didn't know until I took it to another place later on down the road.
This is such a joke trying to find the factory replacement filter for my 2021 charger r/t 5.7. Every site has a different number and says the number from the last site won’t fit. 4892339be. 04884899ab. 04884899ac.4892339be again. Lastly 5038041AA is said to be compatible but the higher quality srt version. This is crazy!
They will all fit your car, the 899 is the OEM filter 2014 and earlier. The 339 is the 2015 and newer. Not sure the point of the change but the thread pitch and the seal diameter is the same, the 899 is a larger filter than the 339. The 041 is the SRT filter that was designed for the Viper I believe. All 3 filters will work for your car but the 339 is going to be the OEM filter.
After the warranty is up on that Vehicle I would swap the oil to 5W30. All newer vehicles are using thin oil for fuel mileage, which doesn't Make the engine last longer.
The oil filter is installed correctly. It isn't supposed to tightened with tools. Seat the gasket turn 3/4 to 1 turn, or hand tight. I feel you overtightened your Merc. filter.

Same filter fits my Dodge Caliber with its mighty 2.0 engine.

I agree, especially if you drive the vehicle hard, then the 0w20 and 5w20 (in my opinion) isn't the best choice.
