There has been commentary about the Cytac not covering the trigger guard. I failed to make this clear in the video, but the holster covers 90%+ of the trigger guard.
Also, the idea that the trigger finger release mechanism is going to cause you to get your finger on the trigger is absurd. Nothing like this happened during my evaluation. It never came close to happening.
And yes, I own a Safariland ALS holster. This presentation wasn't a comparison. It was a review of the Cytac.

Having used a SERPA holster for my M9 for years, as well as for USPSA with my G21, I never personally had concerns about accidentally touching the trigger on a draw.
The only concern I ever developed was regarding accounts from some instructors who had students' SERPA holster buttons become bound up from dirt and grit. Does the Cytac's button components look like they could be vulnerable to being bound up, too?

@@thedude5449 Dude, this isn't a serpa holster, it's a Cytac. The holster covers the trigger and I never had any issues with finger on the trigger in hundreds of from holster presentations. It isn't a serpa. And I find the concept of this holster leading to ND's to be absurd.

As a paraplegic I have to be creative to say the least, but in the field I like my Diamond D custom chest rig. I bought a 6" 29 model and a Glock 20 model. Most of all of my other guns fit and they may giggle a little but they hold in the holster. The leather is very nice too, top quality to say the least. Expensive? YES! But I think well worth it. For my CCW a custom weak hand-sided holster flipped reverse behind the back between the seat and my low back with a special made retention device (some paracord) is perfect. I hope I never have to use my CCW system, but I practice with it all the time. I listed this so others like me might get some insight from my method.

Ive had a Cytac OTW holster for my M&P for years, and for the last half year Ive even used it on my belt on duty as part of my rig. I can personally attest that its durability hasnt changed at all, no signs of wear or tear to be found, no difference in the mechanics of the release, and not a single "accidental" release of any kind. Add to this the fact that when I have had to draw my duty weapon quick, fast, and in a hurry...its been effective each and every time, much moreso than previous holsters Ive used over the years.
If it can handle the day to day rough wear and tear and use of duty gear, in addition to day to day use as off-duty carry, over the course of nearly 5 years...Im ready to say its one of the best investments in equipment Ive ever made in my career...perhaps even my whole life.

I have been using Cytac holsters for a few years. They do fit some of the most common quick releases, they also offer a universal holster that will fit many different sized pistols (I did a review of this holster), and it fits everything from my Sig Pro 2022, to my Ruger 57, Canik TP9SF, and Taurus G3. None of the holsters I have had from them had any problems releasing under tension like the Blackhawk Serpa, but I have heard mixed results on this issue. For the prices of these holsters and kits (I purchased a holster kit that came with the holster and paddle, belt loop, molle, and drop leg attachments for around $70 back in 2018) I think they are pretty good.

I've been in freezing rain that turned my clothes to ice sheets, I'd certainly not want my holster and pistol, to get water soaked and frozen. These holsters are certainly faster and more secure when weather cooperates, but I personally want something that works with thick gloves in freezing conditions. Not sure if anyone else has good experience with other holsters in those situations, but I still like a holster with a flap and a snap retention strap since I know that works.

At a glance, Cytac appears to have remade the SERPA, a holster identified with some problems.
The Black Hawk SERPA holster has offered a tremendous amount of versatility, but it has fallen out of favor, not just because its release button has caused some to accidentally hook the trigger upon drawing, but because that release button has caused pistols to be stuck in their holsters when dirt and grit get into the mechanism.
My question is, how has Cytac addressed those identified issues?

This reminds me of the Serpa holster I have for my G20. They make a quick release system for it that not only allows me to quickly switch from belt slide to drop leg to MOLLE adapter, but it also allows me to quickly change the tilt. With regards to the MOLLE adapter, I made my own hunting vest and fanny pack/pack belt system that has PALS webbing. I can put the holster on my vest so it functions as a shoulder holster, or put it on the belt with the FBI tilt if I want to.
Note: use of the quick release system will make the holster stick out from your body about 3/8 of an inch.

Serpa holsters (and any others that you have to depress with your trigger finger to draw), are a great way to shoot yourself in the leg. Also, the Serpa has been proven to lock up when exposed to fine dust/dirt

    • @davidgates1122
      @davidgates1122 2 года назад +1

@@philipmix5237 Fortunately, I'm smart enough to keep my trigger finger straight until I am pointing my gun at what I want to shoot. Saves more than just my body parts. Works well for my rifles and shotguns as well.
As for locking up, I had not heard of that but I can see how that would happen. Thanks for the information. It seems the holster needs cleaning and maintenance too. If my holster were to ever lock up, I can remove the magazine and the round from the chamber with the gun in the holster. Because I use the quick disconnect device, I can then easily remove the unloaded gun from my person.
A word of warning to those with Serpa holsters: some think they are safer for reholstering because there is no thumb break or other retention device that could catch on the trigger. Don't be fooled into a false sense of security; there are known instances of other items like jacket strings getting caught on the trigger. Fortunately, since I am not law enforcement, I always have the opportunity to look at what I am doing when I holster my gun.

I carried the Safariland holster with, I think, the ALS system. That is the system that uses the thumb as the release. It is the same motion as using a thumb break. I used it for many years as a duty holster. It had the belt attachment, available in two different lengths, that the belt slides through. The belt slots also have cut out sections to allow one to fit it to one's belt width. It also has an interchangeable paddle back mount. While it is only Level I, Safariland does make a flip over strap and a hood system to raise the Level.
I wore that holster 5 days per week for more than 10 years and it held up very well.

Before you get too invested in that system, know that it's a derivative of a better system by Safariland. Their ALS system is more intuitive to unlock and it doesn't require you to use your trigger finger, which is a risk for ND. Also, Safariland has a quick swap system called the QLS system. It is set up so that you can put an attachment to your belt, a matched one to all your holsters, and wear whatever gun you want that day with about a two-second swap. They make holsters for just about every modern gun out there and are the gold standard on active retention holsters.

I think this has been said already but I urge you to try the Safari Land ALS. The release "button" is relocated to the top where the old school thumb tab was on soft holsters. the issue I have seen (you have more experience than I do Paul so you be the judge) is when the release button is in the location it is on the holster in this video, then under extreme stress the user has a chance to have their finger slip into the trigger guard and depress the trigger as they are completing their presentation. also other brands that use this method (some color of hawk to avoid using brand names) have been sometimes known to not respond well to dirt/dust/grim/gravel in the field jamming up and not allowing you to draw. I would love for you to do a video on the holster linked in this comment for your 92FS.

The hunter holsters for the big revolvers are very handy as you demonstrared. The pistols for me change things. Generally, I try to conceal a pistol in a hip holster close to the body. A G19 is as big a gun that does not print. For that purpose DeSantis has been my best fit.
Like shoes/boots, everyone is different. I have a large plastic bin of holsters that did not work for me. Friends and family come by and scrounge the misfit bin prior to ordering a holster. The supply is starting to decrease.
My point? Everyone is different. Each of us will define perfect differently. I used to get frustrated. Now I don't. If any of you get frustrated, relax. Holster shopping never ends. Each new gun just keeps the quest alive.

ND's as a result of people using Serpa holsters is nothing more than BS Fudd-lore. The individual in question, Tex Grebner, is a dope, who was switching holster types and manual of arms mid-session. That'll get you in trouble no matter who you are. That said, he doesn't do gun or firearms gear reviews any more.

I have 3 main holsters for my usual carry. An uncle mikes, a leather belt loop style and a kydex similar to this style without the finger release. When needing to conceal and most work days, I go leather. It must be affixed when I get dressed for the day, and i definitely don't trust retention if open carrying. Or, if im on my back or upside down. For deep concealment it's an iwb uncle mikes with no snap. Looser than I like but very useful, retention issues are the same. The kydex as you stated is very good at retention and easy to, add and remove at a moment's notice. Also as mentioned it's form fit for 1 gun. The system works phenomenally. And again as stated the only, and I mean only downside is how it prints and occasionally bumps or snags in close quarters work environments. Beautifully said and presented good sir. Thank you as always.

I have this one for my Shield 2.0 9mm. It fits perfect and the lock works well. The holster would come off your waistband before the lock fails 😂. The paddle has some rubber inside to grip your boxers etc and it is very comfortable. Perfectly contoured to a hip with an adjustable cant. Mine is canted back a few degrees so i can draw from retention which is very important. I have switched all my training to retention instead of full presentation. Great price for a good product

Around mid 1997, when I was a newly graduated Registered Murse, I was working the the paediatric ward of my local teaching hospital. We had a 28year old cop admitted to the ward, which was a tad unusual in the paeds unit. Turns out he was recovering from a gunshot to the right calf, in an almost perfect parallel alignment to the tibia, entering through the top of the calf. He was part of a response to a domestic siege with a man suffering psychosis, that ended with a 5-man takedown. The individual managed to grab the officer’s gun in the ensuing struggle, and pull the trigger while it was fully in the holster. Due to media interest in the story, Constable Plod was brought into the kidlets Korner as we had double locked front doors, with the ability to keep reporters etc out.
I was shooting a Beretta 92FS at the time. My home town Perth, Western Australia, was about to host the World Pistol Championship, but the Port Arthur Massacre (in Tasmania, where I now live) , and it’s effects on gun owners in Australia basically ended my chances. He and I spent many hours chatting guns, as they were also using 92s, and we were effectively shut down to new admissions while he was there.

    • @andrewallason4530
      @andrewallason4530 2 года назад +1

@Random Pickle we have an interesting take on gun control. I found it extremely easy to get my firearm licence, applied at my local state service centre (same joint does vehicle licence, social services, and our medicare (taxpayer funded healthcare matters ) about 10 minutes drive from my (hobby) farms. We have set rules about not using firearms for personal or property defence, and you must have a valid reason to obtain a firearm (vermin control and membership of a sporting shooter club are some of the valid reasons). You are restricted to shooting a minimum of 200m from s dwelling and 100m from a property boundary, unless you are actively shooting feral species, when all bets are off. We are restricted in our types of firearms. A and B class firearms ( bolt or lever action, rifles and shotguns in centre ((B class) or rimfire (A class ) , are pisseasy to get. A 6 hour course to get your licence, around 3hours of which is actual range time, and you have your licence. Anyone can loan a firearm indefinitely to a licence holder. One you have the licence, you can apply for a permit to ‘acquire’ a firearm, the basics of which are an inspector will check your property and your gun safe, and after 4 weeks you can collect your firearm from the dealer.
Other categories (C and D for pump action shotguns and semi-auto rifles)are more heavily restricted to specific professional needs (professional hunters /shooters, security guards, etc) or members of pistol clubs may apply for category H for handguns (pistols). The C,D and H licences also require specific safes and security upgrades to the property.
I find it weird that a pump action shotgun is highly restricted, but a lever action with exactly the same capacity is not, but as a fan of lever actions, I’m quite content and have a couple of them.

Looks like a solid holster. Good retention, good connection to belt, and good trigger shrouding. My words are “iffy”at the moment, woke and saw the video so I’m still partially asleep I reckon. I also have one of those “floppy drop-holsters”. They work fine but like your Uncle Mike’s holster, I had to modify mine. I have a dot optic on that pistol and it keeps the pistol from seating properly, as the trigger guard was too exposed. With a little surgery, it’s a great cheap holster.

I have a Cytac Level II holster for my Tokarev, and it is, to my knowledge, the ONLY modern Level II Tokarev holster in existence. The retention is good overall, although don't have much faith it would hold if someone forcefully tried to yank the pistol out of the holster (it holds to a fairly significant amount of force, though). Cytac's mounting system and accessories are IMI clones, and I have confirmed they perfectly interchange with genuine IMI accessories. You could, if you wanted, attach it to any of IMI"s mounting options. The Cytac paddle is quite a bit nicer than the IMI one, though. If you already have other holsters in the IMI ecosystem and want to add support for some oddball pistols, Cytac offers some very attractive options.
