- Common Bermudagrass and Hybrid Bermudagrass are vastly different. I got over the differences between these two grass types. Find out the cost differences, growth differences and more. There is also a huge misunderstanding of what hybrid means when it comes to turfgrass. I explain what makes a hybrid a hybrid and get past all the misinformation that is going around the lawncare community regarding seeded bermudagrass.

best examples I've seen of the effect and benefits of growth regulator on different bermuda grass.
Thank you!
Finally. A video that explains it in a way I can understand it. I currently have a mixture of all types of grass. I live in a warm or transition area. Las Vegas Nevada. I would like to have a nice lawn. It's mowed every week but only once. There are bare spots that just will not fill in. I am working on trying to make this lawn nice enough so that the HOA gets off my back. Is there any particular Bermuda and that will over a few years crowd out the others. I don't mind spending a few dollars for these. I just want my lawn to be worthy of where I live. If you can tell me a hybrid that would really work for that I would appreciate it. Keep up the great videos and I will keep watching. Thank you.
Awesome video man. Everyone talks about how "once you have bermuda you just can't get rid of it" and sadly my case is - bermuda just won't grow on my lawn. I've tried overseeding my Bahiagrass lawn (super patchy) with hybrid Bermuda but only a few spots got a grip and germinated. I waited 4 weeks and it just couldn't withstand that first mow so it's back to square one.
This episode was amazingly informative.
This video in my opinion is one of your best. Informative with easy to understand presentation. I greatly enjoyed it.
Thank you so much. I appreciate it.
Great info, you can really tell the difference, what variety of bermuda was used around 2000? My lawn looks like common except an area where a landscaping bed was eliminated. You can tell a huge difference in density between the newer and older section.
Diamonds, herpes, and alimony… that’s a chronological review of my first marriage.
Bwahahahaha
😂🤣
Everything I’ve learned about Bermuda grass on you tube is about everywhere but So Cal. Completely different environment than most of the country. Probably closer to Bermuda environment
Don’t scalp it too much in early fall. Keep it a bit longer in winter with the rains. Don’t cut it too short in summer when it’s hot. It burns the roots.
Although drought tolerant you need to water frequently in the hot months if you live in the IE
well said , yet to find much so cal Lawn channels , especially for Los Angeles
I was actually able to purchase some hybrid Bermuda grass seeds,
Still common Bermuda and not a triploid interspecific hybrid
The dry spot your yard gave mine is forever. 👍
You're welcome
I live in Iowa and I'm thinking about changing my yard from Fiscue to Bermuda so I can play bocce ball on it. Any suggestions on which type I should use common or hybrid? Or any other additional help offered would be welcomed
I believe Iron Cutter would be your best Choice. Check out my buddy Ryan Knorr, he is in Iowa and is using some Bermuda on his new land.
I have been wanting to seed my bare areas but I do not know if I have common or hybrid.
Easiest comparison is common has wider blades where hybrid has thinner blades
My developer has planted common Bermuda, it hasn’t filled in completely , looks and feels like walking on copper wire strands. Can I kill it and re-seed with hybrid seed, like Monaco, BlackJack? Will the common come back and take over?
Very informational. Even for a cool season person here. I hope many people watch this video.
Thanks! Never know. You may need this one day
Maybe. RD can grow it here in Ohio. I might try it too.
He does
@@Lawnvolution tahoma31 has great cold tolerance maybe even good enough for Canadiana provinces like Ohio
@@Gr33kG33k 🤣🤣
This was a great video...
Very informative 👏
Goodness! You're dropping it down to the chromosome level 🤯. This is amazing! I love it! Great photos of common and hybrid bermuda comparisons. Never that about the pgr, because I am 3 years into filling in the bare spots. Transplanting and fertilizing it so it spreads. Limited budgets suck 😂
Got that right.
For seeding don't forget the cost of the increased water bill, reseeding after washout, and significant weed treatments... after all is said and done, sod is WAY cheaper than seeding in most cases.
I try not to mention washouts in my household. 😀
@@ReelLowDad amen
So judging by the photos the ones treated with regulator look thicker and more dense.
Is it true that what they lost in length they gained girth right?
Dear me I believe all that might be missing was a "That's what she said" joke.....great Information Pete better watch out you're throwing the knowledge to the masses in this one
Did you say Arden 15 is a common bermuda grass seed? I did some research and it says it's a hybrid bermuda? Love your channel btw!
Bermuda grass seed
I've been in the process of converting a section of my yard to bimini bermuda and this year I didn't get any crabgrass preemergent out. Needless to say, the crabgrass is running wild with all the N I'm throwing on the yard. I know it won't win the war since it will die out after the first frost, but do you recommend trying to control it at this point? It's everywhere. If I try to control it with drive xlr8 or something similar, it won't disintegrate, it'll only turn red or orange. Hopefully I can get your thoughts.
Love ya video mate, keep up the good work.
Cheers from Oz 👍🏼 ⛳️ 😎
Thanks 👍
super informative! thanks so much, i just seeded Yukon!
Awesome. You will like the Yukon. Best color of all seeded varieties
Can I overseed my Kentucky bluegrass with Bermuda to start transitioning it to Hybrid Bermuda?
Bermuda grass seed needs light for germination and is difficult to establish on bare soil. I would just focus on improving the KBG that is already established.
This is kind of off subject but since you mentioned the Bluemuda, can you still sand level the lawn with Bluemuda? I know the summer scalp and sand level is popular after the 4th of July weekend.
Sure can. I haven't gotten around to it yet. Best time would be late spring.
@@ReelLowDad I followed your Bluemuda guid last year and it came out great. I had an awesome full KGB lawn Feb-May and the Bermuda grass is taking over in our 106 degree weather here in El Paso, Tx. So maybe it’s best to wait until next spring? I’m curious to see how well the KBG comes back this fall. I don’t want to mess it up. I really prefer the feeling and look of the KBG
Would you say that a good compromise would be to take the sod square, cut it up into plugs and space those out?
It sure would. Lots of people have done that. The amount of labor though is huge but comes at a cost savings
I live in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 tropic’s I like dark green but heat heat stress is a killer here recommendation?
So how do I keep common Bermuda out of my wife's Tiff Grand lawn? I am tired of pulling it out.
Napoleon Dynamite on TifGrand: "It's pretty much my favorite turf grass. It's like a dactylon and a transvaalensis mixed... bred for its skills in magic"
what would be the best variety of common Bermuda today? Considering color on top, maybe some shade tolerance, but no need for cold resistance as I'm located in South Florida. And no, I don't have Bermuda here, only ryegrass that was seeded for the winter.
Arden 15 or Monaco would be the current choices. Shade tolerances are all about the same for all seeded varieties. They will need full sun.
Great information!! 👍
wait herpes is forever? wtf?
Hair piece.
This video makes me think HOA people really have nothing better to do… out in the country no one gives a single shit about the grass. But to each their own I guess.
I've got common Bermuda cropping up in newly established hybrid TifGreen Bermuda. Any suggestions?
Several applications of round up next year. Then let the Tif fill back in or plug it.
@@ReelLowDad Was advised to use Ornamec?
That will hurt the hybrid Bermuda as well and won't kill either right away.
Great deep dive
I have a bermuda lawn, because it came in a bemuda infected Zoysia pallet of sod. I hate the stuff and now I get to rip most of my new lawn out.
That sucks that you paid for zoysia and it was contaminated. Sucks not getting what you wanted. Hopefully the sod farm made it right.
@@ReelLowDad Nope, and now I'm so annoyed I'm going to burn it down and start over. The neighbors will think I'm loosing it.
First time catching your video and right off the bat I disagree that Bermuda is for ever. I got rid of my common Bermuda by plugging zoysia. It choked out the bermuda
That's awesome your zoysia was able to choke it out. What type of Zoysia did you go with?
@@ReelLowDad funny you should ask. I thought it was zenith but is not. So I took a larger plug to Super Sod t
To find out. They did not know
It's really old type. They said it is probably a retired type of zoysia. It's beautiful. I mow it at 1 inch
Wow. Those regulated vs unregulated pics are unreal.
I love the growth regulators
Ohh boy, I just bought 50lbs of blackjack not feeling so psyched anymore
Will still make a great looking lawn. Most of mine is common.
When you had just Yukon, what was your rate on TNEX? Thanks.
0.75floz/M
@@ReelLowDad thanks, I applies at .5 because I wasn't sure. But this video makes sense as to why I couldn't find a dedicated rate, because it's not a hybrid. Great video, and thanks.
Knowledge! Thank you!!
Knowledge is power. Never stop learning.
"Unless you do bluemuda."
My front lawn is definitely splotchy lol
“Like diamonds, herpes and alimony, it’s forever “😂😂😂 now I can relate
Glad I could be of assistance!
What do you recommend for shady areas
TifGrand is the best but very hard to find. TifGrand 2 is supposed to be released soon. Best shade tolerant Bermuda at up to 75% shade coverage
@@ReelLowDad thanks for the reply. It definitely seems hard to find and costly. I was thinking putting zoysia in those areas maybe next spring. Thanks again
Do you find your hybrids give more seed heads than others? I really hate the seed heads that my grass throws off. They look like shit. It's made me want to visit some new construction, and steal some plugs.
My TifGrand areas have not been that bad this year. It usually has more than the Yukon. MY KBG seed heads are driving me crazy.
Yukon blades look a lot wider with the PGR.
Ain’t nobody coming near you on the knowledge your dropping on Alpha grass! But…which one do I go with to have the best looking golf course lawn?
Whatever you can afford. Just remember not to mix and match.
Tahoma 31
My favorite hybrid is Tif Tuf. I personally have not tried any seeded varieties, but we are selling our house and buying another one. All the ones we have looked at have lawns that will have to be nuked and re-planted. I am most likely going to go with Arden 15.
TifTuf has shown real promise in terms of a low HOC and requiring less water. TifTuf is Smart WaterMark certified in Australia - the best drought tolerant grass they've ever seen.
If you can’t beat Bermuda, join it!
That's about where I'm at 🤣. It's better than letting the dallisgrass take over in all the spots my fescue couldn't survive.
A lot of work for a video about different types of weeds🤣. I do like the pgr pictures. That’s crazy how tight the blades get under regulation
