I love this video. Gander Mountain Company, Inc., headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota, was a retail network of stores for hunting, fishing, camping, and other outdoor recreation products and services. Gander Mountain Incorporated began as a catalog-based retailer in Wilmot, Wisconsin. Wilmot is located near Gander Mountain, the highest point in Lake County, Illinois a short distance across the state line. As of March 2017, the chain had 162 stores in 27 states, making it the largest chain of outdoors specialty stores in the United States. In the 1990s the company sought bankruptcy protection and began to rebuild its business once it emerged. In 1996 it sold its mail order division and then later acquired the watersports company Overton's in order to relaunch its mail-order business. The company filed for bankruptcy in March 2017 with plans to close 32 stores. On May 5, 2017, Gander Mountain announced via its website the upcoming closure of all of its locations. The new owner, Marcus Lemonis, has clarified through his account on Twitter that the bankruptcy court has sold the inventory and is liquidating it. Not all stores will remain closed if a new lease can be worked out with each landlord.[ Gander Mountain was formerly traded on NASDAQ but was turned into a private company under the majority ownership of David Pratt and the Erickson family, which own Holiday gas stations. Chairman of the Board David C. Pratt was elected Chairman of the Board in December 2006. Pratt was elected as a director of Gander Mountain in August 2005 and named Vice Chairman of the Board in December 2005. The Chief Executive Officer is Jay Tibbets.
If I recall from my days of working out in Robinson, there was absolutely nothing up there on that hill prior to the "Super-K" being built. The Super-K was a huge deal when it first opened & I would go there all the time after work there were major plans to fill in that entire desolate area with stores, restaurants, & businesses like they've done on all the surrounding hills -- But it never came to fruition. Then, once the Wal-Mart opened, that was the end. First the Super-K stopped being open 24/7, then they started shutting down check-out lines, then it was over from there.....
beautiful night and view___october is always a wild card in relation to weather in pittsburgh___my friend 60 yrs told me she remembers a some halloweens it being hot 80 degrees and some there was snow
this is so sad, all the people who lost their job, 2017 seems to be a bad year for robinson, i live near robinson and i use to go there all the time in 2012 - 2016ish, but the traffic got so bad, and the shopping area was poorly designed, they should have had 2 roads one on the perimeter and one going down the middle over on the walmart side
mall at robinson was built in 2001, it seems after the recession of 2008, there was a building boom at robinson, then after a few years in 2017 all the stores and restaurants started to close, there were too many stores and not enought customers
Looking back, it's amazing how quickly it seems as though the outdoor store boom (Camping World, Gander Mountain, Cabela, Bass Pro Shops, Field & Stream) came & went...
Finally found this video from a year ago. Your greatness was already showing then, you just keep getting better. From the camera work to what you decide to shoot. What hasn't changed is the fun and honest commentary on things. That is an odd place for a sporting goods store. How can people find it. The Outback may be packed partitally because of people staying at the Days Inn, tourists who want the familiar and not try to be adventurous food wise. Not sure if the Outback is walking distance to the motel. I've seen that when I traveled overseas on tour groups. They go to McDonalds I ask for the local place especially if it's a bar with good beer because beer is internationally yummy. Wish I subscribed to you over a year ago. Thanks to Anthony I found you awhile ago
maybe gander mountain went with this location due to the outdoor nature theme of the store, quiet and rather secluded but apparently wasn't meant to be.
Wallie, Thanks for posting this, I absolutely love your work. I live about 10 minutes from the old fore down Super K and Gander Mtn. I worked for Super K for 5 1/2 Years. I quit in 2005 and it got worse since. Now I’m working at a local Hospital that isn’t doing so well and most likely be bought out by Allegheny Health Network. The hospital that I work at is probably one of the very few that is independent privately owned
It was Camping World which took over. And there is 32 locations that have closed according to my research :) Also cool to note that if you watch the tv show The Profit, Marcus who is the host actually is the owner of Camping World 😁
Terrible location for retail, however an excellent location for an office/light industrial/warehouse park with hotel & good restaurant @ bottom of street.GM retail outlet can easily be light industrial building.I do know that Bass Pro🎣 shops bought Cabelas outlets but so far has kept the Cabelas name on the new Avon store in NE.Ohio.
The one Gander Mountains by me is in Henrietta,NY it was closed in April and it is in the parking lot of Marketplace Mall. They said that a Bass Pro Shop was supposed to go in but the building is still abandoned. Keep up the great work i always look for new videos
I always use to make the trek to Robinson Gander when the ones in West Mifflin and Washington would not have the items I wanted. Robinson always had it, it never really was busy compared to the other two
The Gander Mtn in Wichita, KS is still open, last I heard. Camping World is fighting tooth-and-nail to keep that one around. What happened was, the city government spent millions of dollars (generated by taxes) trying to get a big shopping district set up along the Arkansas river, near the city's downtown. This shopping center, dubbed "The Waterwalk Project", never took off, and only Gander Mtn built there. The city is still trying to pay the Waterwalk blunder off (ten years later), using only the funds generated by the store. If Gander Mtn closes, the city will be out a lot of money, and citizens will not be happy.
its a cool looking store, i actually never heard of this store. that days inn up there will probably be the next thing to go abandoned. i keep coming across abandoned days inn hotels. im surprised how green those trees are most of ours have changed over. keep up the good work bud
Man that was a great store. I went to that place and worked out in that area for years and it looks totally different. All around Pittsburgh is different now. Hopefully there is a come back soon with all these stores closeing
This was a poor location on 2000 Scott Boulevard Moon Township PA is the actual address. It was a Day's Inn from 2003-2014. This is located in Rocinson PA but has A Moon Township PA 15108 address.
I wish you could investigate the abandoned Holiday Inn above McKnight Road. I filmed a short film there once, and I'd be curious to see how trashed the rooms look now.
I at one time saw a guy standing at the exit of that store. He told me he spotted a copperhead snake, and he was trying to keep people away. He then proceeded to tell me to run the snake over with my car, which I did because I understood why he wanted me to do so.
Yessir. I met Jeff a few years ago and had him sign my arm. He was my childhood hero and idol and out of everything I ever wanted was to meet him so he is the lone person who will ever have given me autograph that I could tattoo.
Also, I think you may have stumbled onto an idea on how to future use the property...future camping area...tear everything out and plant trees and return it to nature...
Back when I lived out there I remember a Gander Mountain east of the parkway on rt 22. It used to be a Hills/Ames and later it was Roomfull Express. Seems any company that goes in that building is cursed. I'll stop by it in December when I'm visiting my parents.
Stunningly Beautiful and Gorgeous Peaceful place🙏🙏🌈🌈🙏🙏

Gander outdoor is a subsidiary of camping world.
That closed about in August 2017 or September 2017

I love how you give a description about the location you are at! Great job!
It's such a beautiful store front, it really fits with the nature around it. They should really turn it into a park or something.
mall at robinson was built in 2001, it seems after the recession of 2008, there was a building boom at robinson, then after a few years in 2017 all the stores and restaurants started to close, there were too many stores and not enought customers
It has been demolished
The Gander Mtn. In Huber Heights, OH decided to stay open.
it is scary because more and more business are closing and the loss of jobs for ppl, now 2021 it is 10 x worse w/ covid
Looking back, it's amazing how quickly it seems as though the outdoor store boom (Camping World, Gander Mountain, Cabela, Bass Pro Shops, Field & Stream) came & went...
Wait what the hell I had no idea there was even a Gander Mountain anywhere near me! hahaha
