  • Abandoned Pizza Hut West View, Pa. This location is within the West View Shopping Center which was famously known as West View Park before it closed and became a shopping center. This Pizza Hut has been closed for quite awhile but doesn't look too bad.

    I think the master lockboxes are for to hold keys for realtors to show the property or for contractors to remodel the property.

    Screw that Pizza Hut. Back in like '88 they shut the Jukebox off on us when we still had money in it. Some old couple complained.

    I fondly remember the Early American mate's chairs, with their distinctive guitar shaped seats. It's for that reason that I deem the mate's chair an ICONIC dining chair. I have four around my dining table. I also fondly remember the original Wurlitzer Americana Juke Box that I first heard many of my favorite rock classics on, including the Rolling Stones "Shaddered"! I laughed my socks off at the way Mick Jagger sings in the song.

    Pizza Hut was a pretty good place to go in the 80s. Bring a date, double date, hit the salad bar, the pitchers of pepsi and the pizza was really pretty darn good. I think the advent of shithole pizza places like Dominos and their 30 minute delivery took a huge chunk out of decent pizza places, and then to try and compete, Pizza Hut starting delivery and the quality really went down. Even today, the pizza isn't bad, but for the price you can go to a real pizzeria and have the real deal. Pepsi buying them in the early 90s is what really saved them from totally disappearing. Just another fond memory of the X generation slowly slipping away... SAVE THE 80s!!! PLEASE!!! :-)

    The Master lock has the keys to the doors inside of the box. When you see a box hanging there with no numbers on it that is a realtor box. The realtor has a special magnetic key that they put on the bottom and it pops open and thew keys pop out. The realtor key also logs the realtors name and how long the box was open for. Hope this helps with the mystery.

    Pizza Huts in my area (Birmingham, AL) have specifically been closing to become carryout only locations. If they didn't relocate to a different place, they basically walled off the dining area so that you can only walk inside to pick up. I would suspect that the rise in crime and also dine and dashers has something to do with that.

    Great video. I don't understand why YUM Brands, the parent company of Pizza Hut, wants to shut these places. down. People want to have a sit down experience and an escape from the crazy monotone world. I know the food is good. Mine is still there and still a sit down place as far as I know. They offered unlimited Pepsi, but my "date" there was was my former babysitter who frowned on me drinking beer.
    I know in China and Puerto Rico and other places people actually dress us to go to dinner there. I wear jeans and t shirts. It's an interesting perspective.

    Good vids, "Delopitated" isn't a word though :P, I am from Pittsburgh myself (Bloomfield) so I get it haha! the lock on the doors is a combination lock box containing the key to the building for people coming to see/sell/lease the building to get in.

    So you liked the food, hadn't been there in like 5 years I'm guessing? See where I'm going? Grew up in West View. Wasn't a fan of Pizza Hut but my friends were and we'd eat there after every home football game. Great memories. Nice video.

      Joe Heid Thank you! I hadn't eaten at this one in 5 years mainly because it wasn't as convenient for me to go to compared to other locations. Now with me living in Bellevue, it would be convenient for me again. We have one on Lincoln Ave in Bellevue but that one is tiny and is mostly for take out.

    From and architecture standpoint, this is the first design of the Pizza Hut Restaurants, mid to late 1960's. As we can see here, the Pizza Hit trademark roof has been cut down, the old Pizza Hut in my neighborhood did the same thing and is now an insurance office. For great footage of a vintage Pizza Hut, watch the original Bad News Bears. As we remember, the brick was all natural(no color), and the wood beams on the ceiling were unpainted, natural wood. Everything's been painted here. Nice video.

    The sad thing is, whoever buys this property may back hoe the Pizza Hut structure. I was first introduced to Pizza Hut in 1969 when I was six years old. It's where I first heard a lot of my favorite music on the juke box. It's also where I fell in love with the Early American Mate's Chair. I noticed that it's solid wood seat bared the basic shape of a guitar body. It to this day is my favorite kind of dining chairs. I have four around my dining table.

    @jackyclaiborne2142 6 лет назад

    I had a dream that I went to Atlanta with my girlfriend, and in the dream, I went with the Swharzes to an old school Pizza Hut. My girlfriend saw that it had the old red checkered curtains in it's trapezoidal windows, and she then went diddy boppin' ahead. She ran up, pressed her nose against the window, and then she turned around and jumped up and down like a cheerleader. She called out "They go mate's chairs! They got mate's chairs!"" I then woke up. This was in Twenty O Three.
    In my hometown of Charlotte NC, there used to be eleven original Pizza Hut's. Only two of them are still operating as Pizza Huts. One still has it's trademark red roof, but appears to no longer have a dining room. It appears to be take out and delivery only. The other one has been either renovated, or back hoed and completely rebuilt.
    Two others have been back hoed, and the property redeveloped. Two others are used vehicle dealerships, and seven others are housing other local restaurants.
    After the second time that they changed out the mate's chairs for those flimsy and uncomfortable bentwood chairs in 1984, I first saw the Stephen King movie "Christine", on HBO about the demonic '57 Plymouth Fury. The thing I liked was her supernatural powers, and backwards running odometer that generated a rejuvenating power. I developed a fantasy of my own about that famous '57 Plymouth Fury, about her going to a landfill, and exhuming a car load of destroyed mate's chairs in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. I don't really know what Pizza Hut really and truly did with the mate's chairs when they got rid of them, but my fantasy is based under the assumption that they probably discarded them. Christine then takes to the highway and heads for Tosomberton Ashbourne. During that 2,000 mile journey, Christine's odometer runs backwards, and rejuvenates the destroyed mate's chairs. By the time she reaches Tosomberton, they are like brand new mate's chairs. From there, she starts bringing the mate's chairs back to our nation's Pizza Hut restaurants. She does this operation during early morning hours. At each location, she pulls her starboard side up to the customer entrance, opens her starboard door, and then uses her supernatural powers to unlock and open the customer entrance. The bentwood chairs inside scoot out from under the tables simultaneously. The mate's chairs then drift in mid air out of Christine's starboard side as she sit''s idling with her radio blaring out the Falling Pebbles "I Wanna See Her Sit'n My Mate's Chair". They drift in through the entrance into the dining room and place themselves under the tables. Then the bentwood chairs go out and pile into Christine. She lets go of the door and lets it close, she relocks it, closes her starboard door, and puts her steering wheel hard of starboard. She turns around and heads for the next location. On her way to the next location, Christine's odometer runs backwards, and that and her supernatural powers, turn the bentwood chairs into mate's chairs piece by piece. She repeats the process at the next location. She goes up the west coast, and works her way back east. For the second time that Pizza Hut had the mate's chairs from 1976-1984, I like to fantasize that this is how it happened, though in reality, I know they just went back to mate's chairs. I was hoping that there would be a third period that they had the mate's chairs but it never happened. Each time I went to a Pizza Hut to dine in or carry out, I would think to myself, "Christine hasn't been here yet."
