I've seen other videos saying this camera overheats and of course heat is a computer chip's worst enemy over time. How long have you used this camera and since 2014 what problems have you had with it? Aside from the overheating I've heard about, love the organic looking picture and the sharpness.
Hey, I have watched the BMPCC and RED Scarket comparsion video, how is it possible that you get such a great low light performance? People hate the low light ability of this cam and they showcase the problems. How did you get such a great results in low light? Are the other guys doing something wrong? I just bought this cam in auction for a great price. Cant wait to start shooting
Thanks for watching Jakub! I have been filming for a very long time. This camera is pretty decent in low light. It's all about color correction and how you shoot in low-light.
does it have better noise levels than the red scarlet? or maybe around the same? also, will you be reviewing the KINEMINI cameras? I am considering the kinemini over the blackmagic because it looks much better quality, but i really want to hear what you have to say. Hopefully you can do a comparison to the Blackmagic production camera
hey +Faymusmedia how is the battery life? (internal one). I read everywhere that it's ridiculously short. Is that so cheap? We have many cameras going from Canon 1Dx to Red One/Rave, FS 700, A7s (which sucks a lot of power). TO which should we compare the battery life?
Love your channel dude! What is the spec of your editing system? I'm looking to jump into 4K production, even more so after this evening's 5k iMac announcement ...
also , any updates on the weird glitches ? i heard stuff about dead pixels, and a werid black dot on the sun? also Did you shoot this video with the BMPC?
Can you speak on what version to buy... EF, MFT or PL, what differences in quality occur with the different mounts? The box alone is affordable, but would you have a suggestion for an affordable lens all rounder to accompany the black magic 4k
Hello can yo do a test with sirui anamorphic lenses? I think in the global shutter of this old cam and I love! I have the little OG BMPCC but I need to see anamorphic results
Hello Corey. Got few questions. 1. Do you use Buy Black Magic Production 4k with EF Mount In this video? 2. What lens do you use in this video on your Black Magic camera? 3. How much cost lenses for Blackmagic Production 4k with PL Mount? (some average prices, because i saw one lens for about 25k). Thanks. Great Review and Great footages.
So which camera would be best for me to buy financially? I'm trying to make an upgrade and I'm not sure which I should buy between the Blackmagic cinema camera or the Production camera. Any Help?
I love you reviews, thank you. One little question, could please tell me what camera are you guys shooting with? (I mean the camera that is shooting you with the Blackmagic Production Camera). Cheers.
i just want to know that Image Stabilizer mode on a EF DSLR lenses actually work on BMCC4K or not...? If u can clear my doubt then i will be very thankful.
10:57 You had a white t-shirt on at the time, looking at the noise reduction on the black part, you can see your reflection, I felt like a private investigator for a moment. I have the 2.5K, this camera is beautiful, 100% CINE
Hey man, love your reviews. Excellent work. I just picked up a brand-new-in-box 4k PL mount for $800. I'm excited to put vintage glass on it and see what comes out. Thanks for your enthusiastic review.
I think the concern in terms of FPN was that blackmagic cameras will see it it creep up in long duration shooting. I've seen forum tests that notice it at about a half hour and get very noticeable after an hour. I'd like to use this camera to film 1.5 hour long shows, but that's a concern of mine. Did you test these cameras by letting a shot go for a half hour or more?
xrayvision I too was torn between the Black Magic 4k and the Sony A7S. They are both truly amazing cameras in two completely different groups. If you plan on filming the majority of your stuff at night with little to no added video lights then the A7S may be for you. However that is about the only truly advantage I can think of for the A7S. That camera does not record well with motion due to it's horrible rolling shutter. While it is nice you can also take photos with it keep in mind video time is limited to 29 min. Also it's capable of recording 4k but not in camera though. You need a external device to record 4k and the bit rate is lower than the BM. I believe the device needed for 4k is roughly 2 grand if you buy Sony's product for it and cheaper of you get third party. The Sony camera and recorder alone now costs more than the BM 4k Camera. The issues BM had have now been correct in filmware updates and you will not experience any rolling shutter with this camera because it has a Global Shutter. This camera does not record well in low light however it is a professional grade camera and most likely when filming something at night you would be using lights. You can also record longer events since this is a video camera and not a still camera so no worries on that 29min limit. I would love to have both cameras but if I had to pick I'd say go with the BlackMagic 4k!
I never thought I would find someone to convince me out of the FS100....... Im selling my FS100 now, literally, because of the images you obtained in that video........IMPOSSIBLE it looks sooooooooooooooooo goooooooddddd!!!!!!!!!
I'm not sure how you are getting FPN-free footage for your series of test shots - especially the darkroom test case @10:00. I experience FPN issues with my BMPC 4k with the 1.9.11 firmware release. I see those verticle lines shooting indoors and out using these EF lenses: 17-40mm F4 and 50mm F1.2 (less so with this). I heard some cameras are more prone to this than others. I wonder if the camera hardware has been changed/updated from the first batch produced compared to the latest ones off the assembly line.
UPDATE: The camera was RMA'd and replaced by BM. After reviewing test footage I sent them, BM Support requested the camera be shipped to them for further review. They confirmed that specific camera had FPN issues and replaced it accordingly - under the warranty. The new camera is performing similarly to Corey's results. I am very pleased with both the performance of the new camera and how well BM Support handled the problem.
Hey BNB, after shooting with this camera for the last year, I thought I may be able to tackle this question. Firstly, of course there is never a perfect lens, it really just depends on what kind of shot you want to get out of it. However, IMHO the Canon CN-E 14.5-60mm (www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/professional/lenses/cinema_lenses/cn_e14_5_60mm_t2_6_l_s#Overview) very well may be the "best" lens for this camera. The constant aperture assures that your lighting won't need adjusting just because you zoom in/out a little, and 14.5mm is wide enough to get nice landscape, or establishing shots without getting a fish eye look, and 60mm on the long end is usually plenty as well. Of course all of the cinema lenses from Zeiss and Canon are excellent, but this one has a really usable zoom range, while keeping a constant low aperture which the BM 4K camera really needs. On the less expensive end, Rokinon makes some excellent cinema lenses in the EF mount, that I have had great results with, and the whole kit of 4 lenses can usually be picked up for less than two grand. Of course they are primes, but if you are looking to lens zoom DURING a shot, then a production camera probably isn't the best choice anyway. Zoom in/out in this case is usually better achieved with a dolly/crane/jib, but you probably already know that if you are looking at cameras in this range. So in short, if you are going to rent a lens for a project, I'd scoop the Canon CN-E, because it is probably the only glass you will need. If you are going to spend your own money purchasing a lens, I would probably pick up the Rokinon kit, or perhaps even a Canon 24-105mm F2.8L zoom lens (www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/ef_lens_lineup/ef_24_70mm_f_2_8l_ii_usm). I would just stick with 2.8 or lower on the F/T range, as I bought a Canon 24-105mm F4L and was extremely disappointed with the performance when matched with the BM 4K cam. But again, it just depends on what your conditions/intended result is. Heck, you can slap a $100 50mm F1.8 on it and will still be blown away by the image quality.
Faymusmedia Nice video bro! I do have a quick question though. What camera did you use to record yourself to make this video? The quality is amazing! thanks bro

Dave Dancis This camera is for short films. Films shot in very VERY controlled environments, and the accessories don't make in mobile by any means. Plus it doesn't do well in low light. For a concert, you'd want to get something small and portable, something good for running and gunning. Something like a Canon xf100

Blackmagic seems to be making some REALLY good stuff. I think I'm gonna get a Pocket Cinema Camera for filmmaking. Being a student, I appreciate the affordability. I'd like it though if they were to make a 4k version.
you can't compare this camera to the c300 just based on image quality you have to account for other factors such as the workflow and features that make it easier to shoot with such as built in nd filters
Watching from 2024, crazy how this camera still holds up

hey thanks for the in depth review. I really liked the film grade footage. What lens were you using?

Sorry for the question, but that monopod look quite useful, I wonder which one exactly is is?

How about Kinemini 4K?
there is no taxes in Adorama / New York right? if so i will buy a bmpc, 2 scandisk 240g, 1 monopot, 1 extra battery

What is this video shot on?
hey buddy whats the best lens to use with that camera?
Hey BNB, after shooting with this camera for the last year, I thought I may be able to tackle this question. Firstly, of course there is never a perfect lens, it really just depends on what kind of shot you want to get out of it. However, IMHO the Canon CN-E 14.5-60mm (www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/professional/lenses/cinema_lenses/cn_e14_5_60mm_t2_6_l_s#Overview) very well may be the "best" lens for this camera. +Tony “The BoneShackles” Dupre Are you fucking serious...this whole video is about the Blackmagic Production Camera which shoots in 4k...
Awesome review... thanks for sharing.
+Fayusmedia Could you please upload a grading tutorial? Your grading looks so fantastic...
Thanks Man! very nicely done! Regards form Berlin. Come to visit!
you can't compare this camera to the c300 just based on image quality you have to account for other factors such as the workflow and features that make it easier to shoot with such as built in nd filters
I'm aware. I covered all that in the canon vs black magic review.
