Hi, my name is Professor Alex Silver!
Every Sunday, I release a new episode focusing on a unique character from the Pokemon anime. Each class focuses on the character's narrative arc, including all of their battles, storylines & character development. Altough he is Ash's OG pokemon and the most loyal one of them, Bulba is vastly underrated, i feel like only the people who've been around since gen 1 truly respect this beast
I think it's a top 6 Pokemon on Ash's team tbh
Bulbasaur was done badly in season 1
To know that Bulbasaur stacked more wins than losses in his base form and the abilities that are already in its arsenal, you can just imagine how powerful it’ll be once it reaches its full level cap right before evolving into Ivysaur

@@notevencalm man, true that. Growing up, my friends that I had who were into Pokémon and even my homeboy of current times, all favored Charizard or Chimchar. It usually be the fire types that I see people favor the most, it’s crazy lol
One of ash’s most loyal Pokémon. Stayed on his team for a very long time and never wanted to evolve and for good reason. A reason I never understood but still stood his ground.
I think he was too stubborn to think he needed to evolve to get stronger
@@ProfessorAlexSilver it could also be a subconscious fear of it’s evolved form, same with squirtle since when the gastly from “ghost of maiden’s peak” was showing the pokemon their fears it showed them a venusaur and a blastoise
it had something to do with them not knowing if they’d retain their same traits (personalities) i don’t remember exactly since it’s been years since i watched the original series
It's probably because the animators didn't want to draw his evolved form with alle the leaves and atuff
@Ano Sora I think it was like the fear of growing up. I mean when I was a kid I was scared to grow up cause I was afraid to become a bad person😅
I actually find it really interesting to think about how Bulbasaur didn’t want to evolve because it saw what happened to Charmander. The psychology of Ash’s Pokémon are really interesting.
Ah... Bulbasaur... One of my personal favorites and an underrated one too. Mature... A True Leader... And great personality. Ash's Grass Types always bring a little something special, except Torterra once it fully evolved.

@@ribor1 Maybe it's not, but it still doesn't compare to it's glory days it had experienced when Ash first caught it. The main reason why Torterra never really had any major wins after evolving is because it was still focused on trying to be fast rather than fully adopt a more defensive battling style like it was taught to by Paul's Torterra after it evolved. I feel this can be best seen when Ash used it to battle Palmer's Rhyperior as a Grotle, since after it's opponent shrugged off a super effective razor leaf, Ash had it focus on using rock climb primarily, and while it DID put up quite a fight, it's reliance on a move that did resisted damage ultimately lead to it being overpowered and defeated by rock wrecker in the end. It did indeed go up against a number of strong opponents after evolving, but I personally feel that it would've faired far better in many of those fights if it had embraced using a more defensive approach, of which is most notably proven when it fought Candice's Sneasel and managed to beat it, which is also notable for being it's most impressive victory it got after it evolved
I remember a very old interview from the first head executive of the original anime, Kanto saga that the writers were very sad that they had to let go of Pidgeot because they had to make room for Ash's new flying type Pokémon from gen 2 aka Noctowl. The direct order from Nintendo was to let go of Ash's old team and that everyone in the creative team was too attached to all the Pokémon in Ash's team: especially the original gang of four, all four starter Pokémon. Then they found the solutions of leaving Squirtle as a fire brigade member, Charizard in Charicific valley and Bulbasaur as an ambassador at professor Oaks lab.

But squirtle and charizard left waay earlier than bulbasaur. I wonder why they took so long to find a destiny to ash's bulbasaur...
4:35 I think both Bulbasaur and Squirtle feared ending up like Charmander. Especially since Charmander loved ash much more then they did before it became Charmeleon.

Y'know, Bulbasaur is pretty special. Since Butterfree and Pigeot were released, it's Ash's oldest owned Pokemon. I also like how mature it is taking control of a situation when needed. I also love it's resolve and refusal to evolve being a real example f Pokemon being capable on their own. What an amazing little plant dinosaur.

Bulbasaur the realest. One Pokémon that I always resonated with the most because it resembled the qualities that you want in yourself and people in general. Loyal, protective, loving, territorial. I feel a lot of people who watch Pokémon be sleeping on Bulbasaur. Hella potential, fr. If he was a real life pet nowadays in this world, you’ll probably become a bit anti-social since it’s the all-in-one friend you need and have lol. It’s the Earthy qualities of it that draws me. Green was always and still to this day the first I ever gravitated towards and it became my favorite color, similarly to how Bulbasaur became the first Pokémon I really connected with in a personal way. I agree with you tho, it is an amazing Pokémon 🦖🐸🌱🍃💚
Technically Pikachu is Ash's oldest Pokemon
Pidgeot returned though and was caught before Bulbasaur now. I wonder how Bulbasaur and Charizard reacted to finding their old friend back at Oak's lab.
Ah one of the originals. I loved Ash's Bulbasaur. Ash had him for quite a while and it was sad to see him leave. I'm glad he shows up every once in a while

Looking back at it, it's funny how ash still ended up getting bulbasaur. Bulbasaur had the same attitude towards ash just like pikachu and got won over by how much he cared for them
I like how similar there personalities were. It made them the perfect match

That's like 90% of the anime. Same goes for Squirtle, Charizard, Primeape... Almost every episode was the same. He also won half of his badges losing to the gym leader, but doing something nice that made them like him... A few years ago I decided to rewatch Digimon and was amazed by how well it hold up. I tried to the same with Pokémon and found it unbearable, the first season tells the same story over and over again, all they do is introduce a different Pokémon each episode. I mean, even Pokémon moves, Ash, Brock and Misty pretty much only teach their parties tackle and one other move.
Bulbasaur has such great character growth and is probably one of the most wholesome members of Ash's Pokemon. He has such positive energy and I love how mature he grew throughout the series. He is soo cute and I would love to be buddies with him. :D
It's going to be epic :) I really like Bulb's character arc as well, it's fun to see how it usurped Charizard at the end :)

My favourite starter right from my childhood till today is Bulbasaur. His story was so perfectly depicted in the anime that despite wanting it to evolve into a Venusaur so bad, I actually understand why it didn't want to. ❤️ But I desperately want him back for a surprise return kind of like wild card entry in a battle
I'd love for a battling return, he'd be a great drill instructor for Ash's troops

When I was young, for some reason I enjoyed that for a while in Johto, Ash had both Bulbasaur & Chikorita on his team. I remember him using both at the same time for Vine Whip in the second or third movie. Just having two different starters of the same type on the team did something for younger me.

Ash's Bulbasaur is one of his best Pokémon he's ever had out there for staying around the longest, becoming strongest & waiting on until its ready to evolve all the way into Venusuar!

Bulbasaur is my all-time favorite Pokémon, and Ash's Bulbasaur is one of the reasons why! Their personal story is one of the best of Ash's Pokémon! Starting from a hardened protector to a versatile battler and finally to a compassionate, empathetic, and strong mentor and leader. Bulbasaur's kindness and protectiveness are some of his best attributes. I wholeheartedly agree with you that if Oak did not need Bulbasaur to keep the peace at the lab, Ash would have kept never left them. I like to think that Bulbasaur would have become a permanent member of Ash's team and even stay out of his Poke-ball like Pikachu! I wonder how different the series would have been if Bulbasaur became a permanent member of the team and fought alongside Ash and his Hoein, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alolan, and Journey teams!

Bulbasaur always new his worth, he was basically the designated middle child ❤️ I don’t use grass types but bulbasaur will always be my fave grass type Pokémon because of this show
He was the eldest child who oversaw his younger 'siblings' at Oak's lab. The eldest child used at first a lot until his younger brother became the big & powerful Charizard and eclipsed him.

Honestly, I love Bulbasaur just the way he is. It's true his power will rise if he evolves. But he has proven to be a competent battler regardless. So, I don't see the problem, he's still one of Ash's loveliest Pokemon😁

Bulbasuar totally should have evolved in the Orange Islands or Johto. It would have been great for Ash to have one starter or each stage, and have nice brand synergy with Smash Bros.

Imagine if Bulbasaur did fully evolve it may have had the same "issues" that turtwig had after fully evolving into torterra. Which could be one of the next Pokémon you decide to cover in a future video.

Now Ash has become champion, its time for both Bulbasaur & Squirtle choose their way on evolving into Venusaur & Blastoise especially during the World Championships but first check out the Isle of Armor which will help develop their growth even further!
I think they're champions no matter their form :)
Unfortunately I feel like they won’t let Squirtle evolve because Blastoise is his rival’s Gary signature Pokémon (and that’s a shame since it’s my favorite Pokémon).
But I sure hope Bulbasaur someday will change his mind and evolve.

@@rubinivory-rodriguez3715 Nah they're not evolving. Having iconic pokemon like squirtle or bulbasaur evolve, would be like evolving pikachu into a raichu. It's not happening.
I hope Bulbasaur never evolves. He's iconic just as he is. If he HAS to, then second stage max. Final stage would make him to big and slow to do his current job properly. Bulba is used to being an agile fighter. Final form would hinder him more then help him at this point.
Cynthia's garchomp would be an interesting pick, very balanced personality, disciplined, loyal and a bit overpowered. Jessie and her dustox had been through a lot and have some interesting story till the day she released her, very emotional episode.
Everyone here suggest many great choices for you to analyze so I guess mine is another needle in the haystack, also you're doing a great job and your videos just keep improving. Nicely done!!
Dustox is definitely high on my list -- I want to cover some Team Rocket mons soon. I need to sift through a few hundred episodes to make sure I don't miss anything but it will hopefully be in next month or two

Bulbasaur has always been my #1 Pokemon ever since I was first introduced to Pokemon when I was a little kid, whenever anyone asks what my favourite Pokemon is it's always been Bulbasaur, but I stopped watching the series a little after the Indigo League waaaay back in the day, it's good to know that Ash hasn't given Bulbasaur away like he's done with so many Pokemon before and it's developed a decent history even if it's still hanging out in Oak's Lab from time to time.

4:34 I always thought it was because ash was so exited for it to evolve but he didn’t care about what bulbasaur wanted, so it decided to stay at its base form to prove to ash that it didn’t need to be evolved to be powerful
Yup! Ash didn't consider Bulbasaurs feelings. I don't think it stayed in its base form for that reason alone though. Bulbasaur always seemed more stubborn than spiteful to me

As much as I love Charizard, I think Bulbasaur is my favorite of the original trio in the anime, it's got such a great personality
When I was 6, if anyone asks me who my favorite Pokèmon was, I always answer - 001 - Bulbasaur. In the Pokèmon game, he's my starter too. Now I'm 27, I still have my undying love for Bulbasaur. I've forgotten most of the battles in the story but I have never forgotten how much love Bulbasaur gave to Ash. Your video is so awesome.

Man when I tell you you are unlocking deep basement memories bruh, I had forgotten most of this I’m so ashamed I was such a HUGE fan but I fell off after Ruby/Sapphire it’s honestly making me want to dive back in and see what the new games are all about
You should do Jessie’s Arbok, although it’s gonna have a long history and a LOT of losses.
Team Rocket's losses are so hard to count, I've decided to only include their wins in the battle record lol. It's tough since so many Pokemon assist in beating Arbok, but don't deliver the finishing blow. It also goes the other way for wins. Arbok does major damage, but then gets taken out before winning the battle.

Bulbasaur and the hidden village was the very first episode of Pokémon I ever saw along with the following two episodes! It didn’t take me long to get hooked on the series as a whole and start from the very beginning! Now whenever I think of Ash, The first Pokémon I think of besides Pikachu is Bulbasaur! And with his history, how can anyone not?!

Ash’s bulbasaur is one of the main reasons why it (as well as ivysaur and venusaur) are my favorite starter Pokémon of all time! I just loved the little guy in the anime. And my god was that win list long lol, shout out to you and your editor for doing that

Oshawott is definitely high on my list! It had a ton of appearances to go through but I'll hopefully do it towards the end of the year. Krookodile & some other Unova mons are on the way though :)
