I DEFINETLY preffer the Watcher and Demon designs in the original better. They resemble mutated bats and rats a lot better. Although I DO love how they adjusted some of the stealth sections in the redux
I went for my first time with the OG 2033 after playing Redux since 2016, and I have to say, the graphics and environment of the OG game is significantly more appealing to the eyes compared to Redux, however Redux makes stealth a possibility in just about every scenario with humans, along with making (IMO) significant improvements to how guns operate. Yeah, the Shambler is cool, but not being able to reload the 4th shell holder thanks to that grip was a bit annoying; I wish they went with dumping a Volt Driver at the camp fire where you face off against bandits like you could find on the OG Metro 2033, really gives you a taste of just how powerful the Hellbreath is rather than having to wade through to the Church to finally get your hands on what is perhaps hands down the most powerful weapon in the game series, with Helsing coming in a close second and the revolver/AK tied as third
I think they should kept the beginning part as the atmosphere kind of foreshadows the story much better. Also, the atmosphere in the original gives a good feel of sadness, and hopelessness. But, the Redux did a great job of making the game look better on other parts.
2033 and Last Light are two of my favorite games already, and I gotta say the Redux style just doesn't work. 2033's visuals were darker and grittier, but that was a huge part of the experience, imo. Perhaps it was intentional to hide what the developers saw as flaws, but it worked really, really well. To remove that element just changes it too much. Happy they love the game enough to keep with it this much, but I'm gonna stick with the games I already have.
The original has MUCH better lighting. The Redux has much better animation. The original is more like the book with it's depressing atmosphere. The Redux seems more like an "Aliens" version of the originals "Alien" motif. The original seems more dark and gritty. The Redux seems more frantic and faster-paced
I've played through both the original and the redux version of 2033 and i believe that "changing for the sake of changing" sums it up. actual additions such as better transitions between areas, two shooting galleries, more controlled weapon customization and weapons handling simply isnt enough to justify the "remastered" tag and prize if you have already played the original. *spoiler* i loved the harder librarians on the highest difficulty though, they really feel unkillable now compared to in the original
1:08 I never understood why they have to add these things in games and movies at every possible opportunity. Nobody can cross a road anymore without making it a near miss. Nobody can just hop on a car in the last moment, without the bumper falling off and a 2 minute perilous dangling scene. There was this one Game of Thrones Episode where we spent like 10 minutes of watching everyone present almost falling off the dragon, one after another. Like, if you predictably make every.single.time. someone gets into a car or climbs on a flying thing the same fucking dangling/near miss sequence, you dont add anything. Unless you expect your audience to have a 10 second attention span and you are afraid they'll start scrolling instagram if you don't yell: "Hey, i'm still here!", every 9 1/2 seconds. Well, i guess i found the answer while writing this. Nevermind.
Seems like a lot of Remastered or Redux versions of games crank up the lightning. In my opinion it's good if a new engine can create better shadows and better lightning. But if a new version are lighter than the older version, you loose some atmosphere and horror factor. Seems also in this Redux version that is the case. In some situations the light are better in new version, if there is a bonfire like in eg. at 00:00:53. I also notice that the camera have been moved slightly away from the characters, so they are no longer from top to buttom of the screen, but more like 3/4. Not sure what that should be good for. I prefered to have a good look at the characters, instead they seemed to stay some meters away.
The originals atmosphere seems better IMO. The redux only seemed to trump the original in a few ares. Didn't like some of the Redux's character models either, that dude at 00:48 reminded me of the Dr. from TF2.
I think the only thing I like better effects wise is the water spots in redux on the gas mask compared to the foggy blur in original. I think the weapon customization in redux would be great to try though!
It's crazy how much better original looks imo :O Redux looks like console port in comparison.. It has better texture for sure, but the lighting effects and everything else is so, so much better in original..
Charater designs look better in original because they have that depresing dark look. Whole atmostphere and feel of the game is different original feels darker, more depresing and scary.
Original looks like a classic movie redux looks like a transformers movie. Also I preferred the original shotgun animations that thing felt like a canon. Redux is also missing some good background animations like the train splashing in the water. Redux just lost all the soul.
The graphics looks better overall, but i think some NPC models looks better in the Original Version e.g 0:48 - 1:44 Also feels like the Original has better atmosphere.
This is mostly directed to the people complaining over the graphics: does it REALLY matter that much? I mean sure the redux looks prettier and all but, at the end of the day, it's still the same game, and I really don't think the graphics will really impact the gameplay or narrative in any way.
***** I'm not negative, I'm a highly-trained killer! I've prestiged 4 times! And I have Sweg! Haha seriously though I don't mind additional content being added to this redux; so long as nobody has to pay for for it, amirite? :P
You can tell in both reduxes there's a graphical improvement but they put more effort in reskinning and changing the atmosphere more than a graphical improvement which I'm fine with so it all just comes down to 2 things: 1. How much are you willing to pay and 2.Do you prefer a more dark, horror omniscient area (original) or a better looking retexture of most things and a more realistic point of view (redux) I'd personally get metro 2033 redux and original Metro:Last Light.
It's my opinion. The original looks more real and atmospheric than the Redux. It only had some more lighting and the colors are improved. Nothing much.. And who cares, why you even watch it on a 32+ inch screen. 1080p is 1080p. I'm not in the mood for a discussion about nothing k?
It makes me proud to see game developers put so much effort into improving the visuals of they're rereleases. Some companies should take some notes from these guys. *coughs*activision and ea*coughs*
I am a PC player and played the original to death ! I like Last Light for its own style and I got both redux versions yesterday and let me tell you the original Metro 2033 PC release on DX11 looks way better and more next gen than its redux version but Metro 2033 Redux has better gameplay and its basically Last Light 2003 version, if it makes any sense. Last Light Redux is as awesome as the original last Light, no complaints there.
For the humans and inside areas the older style simply feels more realistic. this new stuff is uncanny valley to the max. The outside geometry and design, lighting effects, and textures sure do look much nicer in the Redux though.
Yeah I'd have to agree with others, the original is simply much more atmospheric. I also think the original character model designs were better as well. And just overall technically it's not that great of a difference anyway. Which just goes to show you these next gen rereleases are a bunch of milking fucking bullshit, if you needed more evidence of that. Really at this point if these releases impress you, then you are a lost cause as far as having any thoughts that aren't commercialism based propaganda running in your head. Keep buying that DLC.
The graphic in the original (older) looks better for me. And I also see that the old version uses more physix for light and shadows, and for heat effects, whereas the redux is more optimized for graphic cars with less physix implemented in the game.
Not the biggest fan of the redesigned models but the overall graphics look pretty good, is there any reason to get this game if you already own 2033 and LL outside of the graphics though?
***** It comes with all of Last Lights Mechanics. No more clunky shooting, clunky stealth, smarter ai and so on. I can't wait to play it myself and compatre em both. 2033 was just epic and so tense.
I love this series and both games are great but the upgrades have left a weird problem for me. It's like I shouldn't be able to see this much detail in such low lighting. This really breaks the immersion for me.
The lighting is more terrifying in the original and i feel like they were just switching the character models to make it look like they changed something. ps the doctor in 0:49 looks like they ripped him from team fortress.
Better gameplay and noticeable improvements world wise are great. Tonal changes with lighting are something I'm not picky over but they aren't bad or a downgrade. Not to mention the better optimization. Redux all the way. Art style wise they have made it cohesive with Last Light as you can now recognize the factions and the optimization is leagues better.
They just picked really bad scenes to compare. The atmosphere in redux is really good, very similar to the first game. This video just doesn't do it justice. I'm also pretty sure the person had their brightness higher on the redux.
I like both, although the original looks really good, the graphics play with the atmosphere of the game, and redux well it looks cleaner but still retains an atmosphere. So both still great! I'm gonna be playing on twitch today. Come and watch me play hey its ged is my account name you don't have to if you don't want to, it is an open invitation. Starts at 10:30!
commander demicleas It's a desktop made of various pieces. Custom cloned design. Didn't make it myself so I don't know the specs, but it does not matter which computer I have.
Redux means "reduced" (probably) 1:50 - look shadows effects behind character. Look his hand shadow on table. In ORIGINAL version is great. Very real! But in "REDUX"... wtf? What happened to shadows? So disappoint!
The shadows seems different because the illumination is different, in the original theres a lamp on the left side, but in the Redux the lamp is in the opposite side, also, in that scene, the Redux is slightly darker so you can't really noticed the shadows so much.
I love the redux graphics but in my opinion it makes to world look brighter and more colourful. Especially that boy who was wearing all dark and ragged clothing in the original then the redux he's wearing a bright red shirt that looks like it's just been bought from the store
The things is, the redux has better graphics obviously;better visuals, better clarity etc. but they have changed and added too much color for some reason which has damaged the atmosphere highly thus making the original preferred and better one overall.
One thing I liked about the original was the loadouts. I could carry three revolvers all configured differently while in Redux you can only carry one of each weapon.
Not the comparison I'm looking at. Redux graphics and lighting is much better. images.eurogamer.net/2013/articles//a/1/6/9/8/9/1/2/XO_015.bmp.jpg/EG11/quality/90/format/jpg images.eurogamer.net/2013/articles//a/1/6/9/8/9/1/2/360_015.bmp.jpg/EG11/quality/90/format/jpg images.eurogamer.net/2013/articles//a/1/6/9/8/9/1/2/XO_004.bmp.jpg/EG11/quality/90/format/jpg images.eurogamer.net/2013/articles//a/1/6/9/8/9/1/2/360_004.bmp.jpg/EG11/quality/90/format/jpg
Even though people say that they prefer the original because it's atmosphere is better (more dark and depressing), I want to say the exact opposite. The comparison doesn't show a lot of dark areas except for the hubs, and when you explore the Metro in Redux, it has WAY better atmosphere. The revamped lighting, reflections, and texture make the Redux atmosphere extremely good. In Redux keeping your flashlight on or not can make the biggest difference in how everything looks and how it makes you feel. As I have played the original in 2013 (and am playing the Redux now) I strongly recommend getting the Redux (also because of the better performance).
I am a fan of the Metro series and, sad to say, that M2033R is worse than original M2033. HD textures, volumetric effects, dark enviroment, epic cutscenes... all that is gone. In fact, M2033R engine is worse than MLL, highest preset needs to look good. Even MLLR looks worse than the original MLL. While the effects on light bulbs seem to have improved, REDUX (both games) edition appears to have been interpolated low resolution in relation to the original MLL because looks more blurred. Say M2033R is better than the original is nothing more than a placebo marketing effect. Metro 2033 (Original) Metro Last Light (Complete Edition) End of story.-
At least the Redux version is more hardware-friendly. HD textures are sharper and more detailed in Redux too, but I don't know why but Original seems....better.
Louisarius Trollerlol The textures are worse in REDUX are low resolution. Perhaps a smaller framebuffer than the original, I noticed this when trying to improve with sweetfx (same settings). I installed both games and was terribly disappointed with the graphic level.
Louisarius Trollerlol Well, lighting in general is also not better in M2033R, only the lens flare. Rays of light are better in original M2033. Clear examples are the missions of Artyon and Miller in the library.
I came here because it says Anna and Artyom's son are in the main menu screen of Metro 2033 Redux. Go watch the 'bad' ending of Metro Last light and you'll see Artyom had a son with Anna when they thought they were going to die from a virus.
Reduces worse! CHARACTERS: REDUCE: the characters are rarer and more quiet. ORIGINAL: they were discouraged (the real was this because ... estavariam an apocalypse, lost their homes) original won. Graphic: In redux it is clearer loses the "drama" ... "00:21" ... The original is darker (not everything has to be beautiful, as in the redux, not everything in the world is always beautiful but gloomy give more suspense and realism). original won ... Clothing: The Redux changed clothes! Were bright and clean ... 1:53 ... In the original the boss and a young (they show they are efrrados, had no one) and your dirty laundry, and some torn part ... More realism) REDUX IS A MILLION TIMES WORSE !!!!! redux, as the name says, it is REDUCED EVEN!
+Ez_Fo_Meh thank you for explaining it to this dense idiot, i honestly couldnt stop laughing. i will agree the original was better in terms of atmosphere.
As a hardcore Metro fan (100 hours on both games) I fucking hate how they changed lots of the character models.. Were's the nostalgia? Alot of it seems like they replaced atmosphere for graphics :(
I just bought the original on PC (had it on Xbox before) while I wait for the redux to come on sale. I'm not getting the Last Light redux because it doesn't look like it changed at all.
Yeah I saw the steam sale a few hours ago .. Last light for 4$ and 2033 for 5$, I'm thinking of getting them now but some people say 2033 redux is far way better than the original, yet again the 4$ price tag is hard to resist
I bought BOTH for 20$ redux . i played the M last light and they hooked me , now im a fanboy of it. Can't w8 to play it with my new mechanical keyboard , GTX 760 , new enviroment (new room) , new headphones.. damn! I must... THE HYPE!
+Waldicky Limbong it also makes more sense cuz all they eat in the book are mushrooms that glow in the dark sooooo... They probs don't have much nutrition
Its so 50/50 i mean in some places the Original fit so much better but in others Redux did such an amazing job. This was one of my all time Favourite series and still is, I've yet to truely delve into Redux and the DLC but the two base games are a must play for anyone really.

The Redux seems more frantic and faster-paced
trigrd?
Nostalgia induced bullshit.
I think that original had a better feel to it. The lighting looks awkward in the redux.
The Lighting looks much better. Its more realistic and detailed.
@@stefans.466 atmospheric > realistic
I agree. There's elements that look better in redux but overall the original looks better. Especially character models
Notice the book at 2:00? It says Metro 2035, while in the original it says Metro 2033.
At some parts i was like wow! But some places like Meh...
Hope they have optimized it well!
Think of it this way, they are using Last Light assets on the Last Light engine.
***** I never played Last Light.. Was it any good?
Jesse Forsell if you can run the game, then yes its awesome. My rig struggles with it at times and I got myself a nice rig.
Roy Anz Cool. Maybe i will buy it and see for myself
Nevermind.
did u see?? at 1:00 Before joining the reds, Pavel used to play guitar on the metro to survive.
why comrad
+Lucas Lima he was on a super secret mission deep undercover.
+GetToHellOut yes, this is the best explanation...
1:50 in the original the book title was Metro 2033 but the redux is metro 2035.
0:40: P A I N T E D - O N G O G G L E S
Isn't this game based off of a book??? Also (if it is), is it as good as the book? I might get both
It's a great book and the story is quite different from the game at some parts
I'll find a translation online for Last Light. I just purchased 2033.
There was an Easter egg in Last Light that pretty much confirmed a sequel or two.
***** I am American... haha
*****
Amazon UK have it, pal. Just choose the books tabs and search for Metro 2033 :)
Just getting into this series. Great atmosphere! I love that they can be played stealth or fire fight. Gives it more replay value
its redux or reduced? 'cause i see some weird changes
Yea sure gameplay improved on the redux but its darker and more willing to jumpscares on metro 2033
It's crazy how much better original looks imo :O Redux looks like console port in comparison.. It has better texture for sure, but the lighting effects and everything else is so, so much better in original..
Everything is soooo shiny in Redux
Charater designs look better in original because they have that depresing dark look. Whole atmostphere and feel of the game is different original feels darker, more depresing and scary.
Original looks like a classic movie redux looks like a transformers movie. Also I preferred the original shotgun animations that thing felt like a canon. Redux is also missing some good background animations like the train splashing in the water. Redux just lost all the soul.
Got a problem with redux being to bright and not having the right atmosphere? put the brightness down, problem solved. Now stop complaining.
Am playing the original on Steam and got for free the Redux on the Epic Games Store, should I stick with the original or go to the Redux?
This is a step in the wrong direction. They shouldn't make remakes of games like this. The original game doesn't look bad, but now it does by contrast
The graphics looks better overall, but i think some NPC models looks better in the Original Version e.g 0:48 - 1:44
Also feels like the Original has better atmosphere.
This is mostly directed to the people complaining over the graphics: does it REALLY matter that much? I mean sure the redux looks prettier and all but, at the end of the day, it's still the same game, and I really don't think the graphics will really impact the gameplay or narrative in any way.
its not the same they have put bigger maps more content more viable playstyles and other stuff
you sir are preaching to the quire
***** Meh you're right, lol. This was more or less directed to the people who make a fuss over the visuals, but you know best, lol.
***** It is? I thought it was Call of Duty: NoScope Warfare repackaged!
I think the original looks better in this comparison..
yeah
I think you need glasses.
Are you joking lol must be watching on a 2 inch screen
Nope, its definitely you guys :) 40+ people are agreeing with me..
I think the original character models are better.
Fantastic work.
Except some of the music changes, and face changes, and the part where there aren’t pics for the mission select menu
The original looks better than redux lol
i love how everyone is bitching about the graphics and how it "doesn't fit", you couldn't see jack shit in the original, example- 0:17
Comes with all the dlc, plus they replaced the stealth mechanics in 2033 with the ones from ll, as well as fixed the gas marks in both games.
You can still play 2033 stealth, you have a choice of LL stealth as well.
***** It comes with all of Last Lights Mechanics. No more clunky shooting, clunky stealth, smarter ai and so on. I can't wait to play it myself and compatre em both. 2033 was just epic and so tense.
You get all DLC for both games as well with this version.
Not only do you get all the DLCs but it's also fairly cheap. Got my copy last week for 20.00 at gamestop
I think the original looks far better. It has a better atmosphere and an all round better look and feel.
EpicPanda111 your a last gen gamer trying to say last gen garaphics are better boo hoo clearly the redux is better
Can someone tell me how to buy an original Metro on steam?
I love this series and both games are great but the upgrades have left a weird problem for me. It's like I shouldn't be able to see this much detail in such low lighting. This really breaks the immersion for me.
The lighting is more terrifying in the original and i feel like they were just switching the character models to make it look like they changed something. ps the doctor in 0:49 looks like they ripped him from team fortress.
1:42 the heat from the lamp hahaha. the original is better))
Better gameplay and noticeable improvements world wise are great. Tonal changes with lighting are something I'm not picky over but they aren't bad or a downgrade. Not to mention the better optimization. Redux all the way. Art style wise they have made it cohesive with Last Light as you can now recognize the factions and the optimization is leagues better.
original has a better atmosphere and that what made metro special
They just picked really bad scenes to compare. The atmosphere in redux is really good, very similar to the first game. This video just doesn't do it justice. I'm also pretty sure the person had their brightness higher on the redux.
I like both, although the original looks really good, the graphics play with the atmosphere of the game, and redux well it looks cleaner but still retains an atmosphere. So both still great! I'm gonna be playing on twitch today.
Come and watch me play hey its ged is my account name you don't have to if you don't want to, it is an open invitation. Starts at 10:30!
I swear the 4A Engine looks almost better than the latest Cryengine or Frostbite.
Playing it one max graphics settings (Original version of course) and in compare with other (horror) shooters this looks amazing asf
I... don't like redux, definitely. Too bright, not as claustrophobic and depressing. Same problem that went with Silent Hill
Have you tried lowering the gamma?
deathroy237
yeah, and it won't solve it... it is not a matter of settings, it is a matter of design
+jotabeas22 well what coumputer/controller do you have
commander demicleas
It's a desktop made of various pieces. Custom cloned design.
Didn't make it myself so I don't know the specs, but it does not matter which computer I have.
Yes, I do prefer the original edition too.
you can see @ 2:00 a book called Metro 2035 , sequel?
Who else is here just bec its free on epic games?
Same, funny that I'm researching a free game because I'm not sure if it's worth downloading...
@@brianmerian2889 it's 100% worth downloading
Redux means "reduced" (probably)
1:50 - look shadows effects behind character.
All of the character model swaps and animation swaps were for the worse. The graphics are slightly better though, specifically the lighting.
One thing I liked about the original was the loadouts. I could carry three revolvers all configured differently while in Redux you can only carry one of each weapon.
I think the original looks better .-.
agree, the original characters look much better
Everything in the redux looks so out of place.
Not the comparison I'm looking at. Redux graphics and lighting is much better.

It's because it's darker that is why it looks better
lonewolf972 The lighting in Redux is awful. too fucking bright and colorful
I didn't realize how much the Redux version improved, it's night and day! I wonder if Last Light has these same differences
I like the original more, mainly because of the mechanics and the look
The original has more black and this sense of gloomy nuisance that usually reflected in Eastern Europe and Russia Urban (especially ghetto) areas
Şhąďøw'ş Ęńď u need help
dude if you said the original one had better gameplay mechanics, you seriously need help
Metro 2033 (Original)
Metro Last Light (Complete Edition)
End of story.-
At least the Redux version is more hardware-friendly. HD textures are sharper and more detailed in Redux too, but I don't know why but Original seems....better.
Louisarius Trollerlol
The textures are worse in REDUX are low resolution. Perhaps a smaller framebuffer than the original, I noticed this when trying to improve with sweetfx (same settings).
I installed both games and was terribly disappointed with the graphic level.
Cosme Fulanito Ah that explains it, no wonder Redux seems like only the lighting is better than the Original.
Louisarius Trollerlol
Well, lighting in general is also not better in M2033R, only the lens flare. Rays of light are better in original M2033. Clear examples are the missions of Artyon and Miller in the library.
Cosme Fulanito I agree.
1:43 that sitting guy looks much more like Russian in original, in redux he looks like a foreigner
А мне обычная больше нравится
+FAUST Loron I don't understand what the hell you wrote but I'm gonna upvote cuz russian.
+Ryosuke1208 Because why not? Am I right?
+FAUST Loron redux m8
+FAUST Loron ага
Мне тоже
I came here because it says Anna and Artyom's son are in the main menu screen of Metro 2033 Redux. Go watch the 'bad' ending of Metro Last light and you'll see Artyom had a son with Anna when they thought they were going to die from a virus.
Reduces worse!
CHARACTERS:
REDUCE: the characters are rarer and more quiet.
ORIGINAL: they were discouraged (the real was this because ... estavariam an apocalypse, lost their homes)
original won.
Graphic:
In redux it is clearer loses the "drama" ... "00:21" ...
The original is darker (not everything has to be beautiful, as in the redux, not everything in the world is always beautiful but gloomy give more suspense and realism).
original won ...
Clothing:
The Redux changed clothes! Were bright and clean ... 1:53 ...
In the original the boss and a young (they show they are efrrados, had no one) and your dirty laundry, and some torn part ... More realism)
REDUX IS A MILLION TIMES WORSE !!!!! redux, as the name says, it is REDUCED EVEN!
redux means brought back or revived not reduced get ur facts straight
+Ez_Fo_Meh thank you for explaining it to this dense idiot, i honestly couldnt stop laughing. i will agree the original was better in terms of atmosphere.
technically the redux version is better, but i prefer the grittier and dirtier look of the original, suits the game a lot better
As a hardcore Metro fan (100 hours on both games) I fucking hate how they changed lots of the character models.. Were's the nostalgia? Alot of it seems like they replaced atmosphere for graphics :(
The character designs are better in the original.
Don't really feel like its enough of an improvement to drop $25 on it when the original is on sale for $3.
Captain Yas buy the game for $4 and get the redux for half price, you actually save money :P
SN0ST0RM Yep Already thought of that & did the math, I save 16$ :P
I bought BOTH for 20$ redux . i played the M last light and they hooked me , now im a fanboy of it.
Can't w8 to play it with my new mechanical keyboard , GTX 760 , new enviroment (new room) , new headphones.. damn! I must... THE HYPE!
I'm actually surprised as how much better it looks!
Normally there isn't nearly that much of a difference. That's awesome :D
Everyone is smaller in the world of.....Redux! lol seriously wtf?
It generates the atmosphere better, of how powerless humanity turned to be, how hope is the only thing they can hold unto.
+Hijynx87 Bro thats because they suddenly realised that humans arent that big, i think they get confued that russia is big but russians aren't :P
+Waldicky Limbong it also makes more sense cuz all they eat in the book are mushrooms that glow in the dark sooooo... They probs don't have much nutrition
@@hendrawanlimbong right, it would be way better if they called the game Metro: Last Hope
Its just different FOV...
Its so 50/50 i mean in some places the Original fit so much better but in others Redux did such an amazing job. This was one of my all time Favourite series and still is, I've yet to truely delve into Redux and the DLC but the two base games are a must play for anyone really.
Original looks... better? Wasn't expecting that at all.
Right? But...it is.
GameSpot, you messed up in the end of the video with the flying beasts.
Showing Redux material with an Original tab and vice verse. xD
when i played metro 2033 i thought it was the best looking game ive ever played and now... its a masterpiece from god himself.
Hang tight my whole Xbox posse yo! We gangsta.
Oh god! xD
Winston Poptart Brap
The environments look a lot better in Redux, but I prefer the original character models over the reworked ones. This coming from the examples shown here. I have not yet played the Metro series.
