  • Nothing like finding an empty grocery store with no ambient music the day you get a new recorder. Here is a quick test of the H1 Essential's Onboard Microphones

These ambiences sound nice. Also, I'm amazed the store isn't playing music and commercials about themselves in the background. That's what the stores in my area do, and it gets fatiguing at times.

Sounds OK 👍 What’s the handling noise like?

I've just ordered one.. But the first thing i'll do is take off that annoying plastic film on the screen! ha!
Gona see how they do with my SR3D Basic binaural microphone I manufacture here in the UK

The inbuilt mics are not very sensitive, and if you boost the sound it will bring up noise, if you plug in an external Primo EM272 however, the gain is about an extra 6db more, and therefore any unwanted noise is eliminated if boosted. Check out a few of my Zoom H1E videos I've uploaded, I'll be doing more tests with my modified Zoom H1E and another unmodified Zoom H1E soon.

How do you feel about the noise on this mic ?
I've heard that 32bit float would add noise/hiss to the signal because of ADC switch
Guess it's not much of a problem when doing field recording compared to more controled records where there is more variation in transients

Was the store open to anyone like that with no music?

What do you think of this?
I love how small it is with decent mics and 32bit. I'm concerned about the build quality and handling noise. Although i'm probably still going to pick one up for the price.

As a sound designer and avid mic builder this is right up my ally.

@@jake360flip well I manufacture binaural mics and decided to try the capsules and like you was very surprised at the results! Expect more videos soon as I’ve purchased a few more for testing standard and modified with out and about field recordings- I may also add the binaural mic if I can manage to add it to my little rig setup. I’m always looking for new ideas with my binaural ideas 👂👂

@@sr3d-microphones Have you tried SASS boxes?
I have built quite a few. Even for other people. A great way of widening the stereo image even more. There is companies that have made them years ago but re building them with em272 capsules is great. Especially if you can add the circuitry to phantom power them

Yes I know of those, but I've not pursued them, I did think about making them but dropped the idea as they were not binaural. There is a very simple circuit for phantom power that I use for the XLR type I manufacture at the present, but I'm looking at another type of PCB for future manufacturing. The present one is simply a 150k resistor and a 4.7uf capacitor, that works quite well for the EM272 Primo's, it's a very low noise circuit!
