      @faizal - what battery charger would you suggest for the x100v ? I really would like to charger the battery externally via a wall charger rather than plugging it to my laptop. Is there a trusted battery charger you would suggest.
      Alternatively, how does the idea of directly plugging my camera thru a USB + OnePlus warp charge adapter sound. ? Would this spoil my camera. ? I am very anxious abt this and need your advice.. thanks

    I had one of these in the 80s! Bought in DC, took it to Europe, Africa, Dallas. Loved it. Seemed to have a magical quality of taking great photos. Then a girlfriend of mine left mine behind at a wedding and it was lost. Years later when I graduated from grad school I bought myself a famous 35Ti, thinking since it was also a Nikon, and a "premium" model, it would surely be an improvement on my lost 35AF. Turned out not to be the case! Somehow the new one just didn't have the magic!

    This is my go-to point and shoot. If you catch me in public I likely have this on my person. I absolutely love it, especially for street photography. My only critique is it's easy to pop the flash up or accidentally jostle the on/off switch in a bag or pocket which in effect will drain your battery. There have been tons of times where I was ready to shoot and there was simply no juice. That said, it's a monster. And the flash is great. Thanks for the video.

    • @FaizalWestcott

      Good to see another frequent shooter of this cam! What I do to keep the flash from going off is apply a little bit of gaffer tape to it, seems to do the trick

I think I may have had this camera when I was in high school when it first came out (damn, I am now old). However, this time I'll make sure to treasure it more and not get rid of it. • @umareta
    @umareta 3 года назад +44

    I've learnt that different films work differently in different countries.. in my part of the world, the sky is mostly covered with pollution and thus the sunlight that penetrates through the ozone layer gives a different light as compared to another country that has nice bright clear sky. Kodak Gold 200 to me is the best to use in Jakarta, Indonesia. I'd get that "truer" Indonesian vibe using that film. Whereby when I was in Tokyo, Japan, Fuji C200 was my choice and it gave me that "truer" Japanese vibe in my shots. So based on the results I encountered, I think that the films one should be using should depend on the light in that area in order to get to the closest "truer" vibe of that area. So the next time I'm moving to another country, I'd probably have to experiment again on which films suit the area.

    • @jeanaiplu3840
      @jeanaiplu3840 3 года назад

      would you say that the films that are easiest to find in a definite country are precisely the ones that are best suited to the local colours and lights?

    • @umareta
      @umareta 3 года назад +1

      @@jeanaiplu3840 I'm not sure about that to be honest. Like in my part of the world, we're fortunately to have all kinds of films available in the market, so I've been fortunate to have tried different types that are available, whether they're major film producers or "indie" film producers.
      There is this Indonesian made film called Cartenz, and I didn't like how it produced the pictures when I shot in Jakarta, Indonesia. But my gut feeling is telling me this could work well under a different light and environment... like in a Japanese countryside, I thought..
      But again, I also still think it's all about preferences.

    • @jeanaiplu3840
      @jeanaiplu3840 3 года назад

      @@umareta Thanks for your answer. When you say films are available, do you mean in common photo shops? Or do you refer to films you can order online? If so, are produced in Indonesia or if they are imported? I live in Switzerland btw

    I bought an L35AF on the famous Hong Kong electronics locality, Nathan Road, in 1983. Cost was the almost exact equivalent of £100 GBP. Used it for about 8 years before I bought an Olympus AF-10 which was a) new and b) more pocketable than the L35. Fast forward to around 2015 or 2016, I put the L35 up on eBay at a starting price of about £9.95.
    Not a single bid. Around 4 years ago, I noticed that the L35's were now attracting a lot of interest on Ebay. Listed it again, with a Buy Now price of £100. Sold immediately.

I found this video helpful because I'm thinking of buying a P&S for my partner, she wants something point and shoot without thinking so much, I use my Nikon FE2 but I need time to take my photos, especially for the manual focus with large apertures, she doesn't have so much patience, and the truth is that I also like the experience of thinking more about the framing than all the camera settings. I suggest people check out a Nikon af600 or also known as Nikon lite touch AF. It's a very nice camera about half as big has a 28 mm lens. And it's really more like a premium point and shoot. And takes excellent photos as well.
    As far as the film goes this would probably be my last choice if I was going to shoot anything with any plants foliage trees natural things in it. Kodak gold 200 would give a lot warmer and pleasing results.

    The battery door is definitely a weak point in the camera, but they're fairly easy to replace and since it's just a small piece of plastic with a metal contact it shouldn't be tough to 3d print one. Also, like most p&s cameras there are a fair bit of parts cameras floating around so you could source a door that way too.
    The earlier version only goes up to 400 iso.

      Defintely a great cam to just leave loaded in a backpack. I would probably do that if I didn’t have 50 bags

      Do it! Image quality is about on par with a Yashica T4, but the Sonnar F2.8 can give the L35AF a great look to it at closer focus in the right light. Yashica Zeiss lens color/contrast is something special though. L35AF are great for the price, and one of the best internally made budget point & shoots.

    My girlfriend just turned me on to your channel! I appreciate your vibe and how you approach your craft; now I’m on the hunt for C200 and that Nikon L35AF for god’s sake while you’re obviously moved on to the Q3!! I’m holding out with my trusted Type 116, but I know I’m putting off the inevitable lol. Thanks for the great content!

    It's crazy how much of a difference that camera w/ Cinestill is, compared to the Fuji200 film stock.. While still decent, the photos just didn't come out as good w/ the pricier film stock. I guess that makes sense lol.

    That’s the first camera I remember using back when I was 8 or 9 years old. It’s still in the house, but it doesn’t seem to work. And yes, the battery door is just terrible.

    You can really see how mushy the edges of the frame are in these photos with the L35AF

    Thanks for the video.
    When I was shooting under hostile conditions where I did not want my Leica M6 rangefinder with 35mm f/1.4 lens to get damaged, lost, or stolen, I used the Nikon L35AF with 35mm f/2.8 lens as a backup.
