I haven't lived on LI for 20+ years but nice to see you floating along the Cross Island Pkwy. Those 3 apartment buildings always stand out. Went to a party in one of them about 35 years ago.
The timing for this was quite literally perfect, you are also in my top 5 for onewheel related content pages,Your breakdowns are straight to the point but yet still funny. Kinda like my entire lifestyle so I commend you for that, please continue this awesome page man 😌🤞🏾💸
Thanks for the info. I ride regularly in temps around 10-15 degrees f, and find that wearing my snowboard pants over whatever I’m wearing keeps me and my feet warmer. Add in jacket, helmet and goggles and I’m usually pretty cozy. Start out with the board at room temp and I get 10 miles before the battery temp starts to drop into the 40’s. I also find that it’s important not to take a break and allow the battery to get cold - keep riding or go inside.
I commute every day to work/school and ive been borrowing a friends onewheel while he is on holiday and i carry lots of stuff with me and the speed and range takes a huge hit
A lot of the lower range due to cold temperatures can be avoided by keeping your board inside and warm when not riding it. You can check the temp with the diagnostics tab.
Thanks for sharing these insights. I ride in NYC area as well. Good to know to let the board get acclimated to room temperature after being out in the cold 🥶 before recharging it.
I'm testing insulation above and below the battery, at zero cost as I have some lying around. Range is defo improved and performance feels good. Silicon heaters are cheap and slim, run on any battery near enough. All this has come from Canadian and Akaskan onewheel fam, they live in sub zero temperatures. I'm really hopeful about this
I always appreciate your videos. What safety gear are you using right now? I love riding in that area but the noises from the cars tend to take away from the experience.
A few of us wear bone conducting headphones, great to add some funk to your ride and make traffic drone and other sounds less annoying. They allow you to still being able to hear your surroundings for safety, and still chat to other riders and people you see
Hey Mario, great video. I had a question about foot fatigue; are there any exercises you do to strengthen your feet? I've noticed the more I ride the less painful it gets but the pain is still there. Thanks!
Fun fact: use laces-free shoes when operating a one wheel specially if your board doesn’t have a fender to avoid serious accident when your shoes laces gets stuck, pulled or tangled by the wheel.
I dig the new logo! I went on a 27 mile group ride last weekend and had to get regen-towed on one occasion. Thanks for the well-researched tips! Question for the next video. Which mic do you use for your voiceovers?
What is your opinion on changing the Onewheel's battery for a bigger one, like the CBXR as an example? I want to have more range without having extra juice from a portable battery or having a battery stuck to the outside of the Onewheel.
Hi Mario! Love you videos. Just have a quit question. In the summer I usually got around 19 miles a charge and since it got below 60 I've been getting around 14. Will my range go back to what it was before when it starts to warm up?
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, it will. I made a cold weather tips video about a year ago, and there's some information there on range reduction. Essentially, the cells perform poorly in very cold temperatures, and so you're going to notice a drop in both range and power. Just don't charge your board if the battery is near freezing. It should be left to warm up to room temperature before charging.
That's just alarmism, and simply untrue. The data sheets for the VTC6 and VTC5D used in the XR and Pint respectively, show the operating temperature of the cells. Also, my manual states that inflating my tire above 20psi would void my warranty, despite my tire being inflated to 23psi out of the box. The owner's manual of the Onewheel isn't exactly a bastion of correct or wise information. So "if you care at all about your battery" is not only a disingenuous phrasing, it's just untrue.
The real issue is the battery temp itself, not the ambient temperature of the environment. When using in cold weather, the battery will slowly decline in temp and generate its own warmth that slows down the cooling it will experience. While the battery is slowly coming down in temp, you can still ride. Obviously you have to be careful and should monitor the battery temp through an app. I believe that FM has a warning somewhere that the battery temp shouldn't be less than 62 degrees f (or thereabouts), but I've found that my battery works fine down to the mid to low 40's f. I'm usually done by this point anyway, so haven't tried lower, but I ride conservatively and cautiously in this temp range because I don't want to have to scrape myself off the pavement with a spatula.
@@tacoleg6856 for sure at daft temperatures it's going to be more problematic any which way. But a big part is the metal case affecting the temperature of the cells, once the board leaves a warm house. As well as the cell temperature dropping if its very cold. We see range and performance drop from 5c down on onewheel, but uk winters are wet and mild now, no global warming here lol, so under -10c is unlikely to happen. We mainly at 0 to 10c. In testing insulation above and below the battery this week down to - 5c, I'm defo seeing an improvement in range, and the board felt great, noticeably smooth
I should have mentioned spatula as a carry item in the video script. Do you normally go with a standard flat griddle spatula or one of the silicone baking style tools?
It doesn't matter how cold it is right now, Mario is on FIRE with new RUclips content! Keep it up!
Yeah like what Jimmy says, love your content
Indeed
"C&D letters from FM" hehehe

"Cease and desist letters from future motion".... Bahahahaha! XD
(woop! woop!)
Future motion has joined the chat.
Mario, is that our rollerblading buddy at 3:30 that we hung out with the last time I was there?
It very well may be...he's gotten better!

Here's my question: What happened to all the Onewheel RUclips content creators?
They’ve definitely slowed down. I’ve been making do with videos from facebook groups, short vids that don’t have commentary but help me get my fix.
🥶🥶🥶

thanks for all the helpful info Jimmy Chang And Mario Contino!
I had to watch this one again as we had into the cold season here in Minnesota. Always enjoy your videos.

Perfect vid advice for this newb over here. Just rode this past weekend up in Yonkers, I'm wondering how i'll ride with all my snowboard gear on...
Thanks for the tips, just what I needed to hear as we are currently around the -5 Deg C in the UK

I can recommend Vans MTE-3 shoes for warmer and dry feet riding in the winter!
Mario a real dude! Gave me his input on Facebook & I been rocking wit him every since!!
Excellent advice on cold charging
Good Information. Thanks from Pint owner.
I use Rockbros cycling shoe covers for the winter, It really helps with the wind.
Lower the aggressiveness on the custom setting and you’ll get longer range. Point nose down on concrete paths snd it’s awesome.
Thanks for the info Mario!!!
Oh wow! I didn't realize this was freshly uploaded! haha I just saw it on my feed 🤘
That was alot of good info. Im watching it again! Thanks for the tips cant afford another nosedive.
Those two links he provides also have good info. Mario is a sleuth.
Cease and desist letters, LOL!!
Have you used a ranger? It uses drill batteries to extend the range.
Boosting ur engagement
Partially helpful, thanks!

It's the hands for me, my hand gets cold WAY too fast! Spring/Summer can't come fast enough
Great video chap
@mariocontino. Can you review chi battery systems board bank.
I don't really have a reason to...I built my own. I'm sure it functions in the same way.
Your voice is so soothing! You should be replacing Morgan freeman in the future :)

I think Mario has previously said in his videos that he’s not a big fan of internal battery mods.

And me driving in Quebec between -20 celsius and -10 with my Pint ahahah.
It's moo.

After trying my friends Onewheel XR i have been drooling for my own onewheel but the price up on ow are huge its ridiculous.....
I can get about 10 miles in 20-30 degrees depending on regen hills. Teens and less i get maybe 5 miles
#1 - Avoid riding in weather below 0C(32F) if you care at all about your battery. Owner's manual states that operating temp is 0-50C(122F)

wait, can't you just make a warmer for your Onewheel battery?
🙏🏾
wtf is stoke butter?
LOL i started this video at 1.5x speed and then turned it to 1x and thought it was a joke. I prefer your speaking speed at 1.5x 😂
Upvote for "moo."
Mario are you italian?
Filipino.
@@TheBoardGarage You have an italian name and surname aswell
I know, I was joking.
