Wouldn't blood splatter go out the body thru the back not the front? Think it was a bit too much. Looked cartoon like. I mean still cool. But just saying
Most comic or novel adaptations don't realize that it is the little details that excite the fans. I like the 89 Punisher movie and it's crazy how adding the logo elevates the film so much.
Back in the day after watching it a few times, I thought the skull at the end of the knife was enough. I always liked this version, but it would be cool if an edit could be made for Dolph to have the skull on his shirt.
I can't remember but there was some behind-the-scenes stuff that prevented that from happening, can't remember if it was legal or not, but I thought there were issues with the R-rating and some other stuff. But there was some ridiculous stuff that happened that resulted in it not being used in the film. Wish I could remember the details but it was a long time ago.
The director simply didn't want to use it. Thought it was cooler and more modern. But they didn't take into thought that without it the movie just blends in with all the other action movies.
I'm sure I read somewhere that in the original script he had it at the end - he took the bulletproof vest rather than passing on it and painted the skull on to draw enemy fire away from his head/limbs.
Apparently, the director said they wanted to do something different and a bit more "realistic" with the character since at the time Frank had this big spandex suit in the comics. Later on he regretted not using the logo since it might have helped with the box office for the film.
Those blood effects are super rough. Less is more; don’t overdo it. And if you’re going to be doing extremes, don’t have the colors be so drastically different than the clean plate. Should’ve tried matching the blood colors with the squibs, but other than that, great video, dude! The commentary and the shirt effect is honestly the best part of this video.
Hah, thanks for the honesty. I’m a fan of the Punisher Max comics and was trying to stay true to issue 1 from the mobster birthday shootout and how gory that was. I understand some people may not entirely see that as realistic, but I just found it appealing IMO. But I totally get it if some people disagree. Thanks bub!
@@alleyvoidYeah just lower the blood effects, your timing is great but it should be more subtle. Even for an 80s movie haha. Exit wounds are usually bigger than entry. 😅
I had the same thought. The blood effects come off as almost cartoonish, taking away all the excellent work that was done otherwise. That being said, it's funny how much a difference just having that skull on his chest makes. Those scenes feel just more authentic to the source material.
@ghostman5620 One thing i thought it did pretty well, was convey just how much the death of his wife and child changed him, and effectively turned him into a souless killing machine.
@@ghostman5620 I always thought it was generally pretty solid as a pre-Punisher MAX era adaptation. The only thing really missing is the skull. It’s more accurate to that era of Punisher tonally than any other adaptation. Each film adapts a different era (2004 being Marvel Knights and 2008 being Punisher MAX) and this one just does those weird 80s comics.
I literally saw an advanced screening of this film in high school. I literally told them in a Q&A after that all they needed to do was put him in a Punisher t-shirt!!! Nice work, the cracking is wonderful! Now do the entire film! lol!!!!
@BuryTheLight-tds I think cinemas should do this, show older movies and give people the cinema experience they may never have had with a movie they like. I know they do already do this now to some extent, but shouid do it a lot more, and with more movies, at least in the lull periods.
I hope the studio was paying attention to this. If they wanted to make some real money on a re-release of the film, digitally adding in the skull would be the right way to go. It would give the film a whole new life.
The only problem I had with the film was their (New World Pictures) extremely low budget for the film. Def no hundred million dollar Marvel Studios backing. I believe the studio was bought out around '97. I'm sure who ever owns the rights to the film now has forgotten about it. I've seen an interview with Dolph Lundgren where he says his biggest regret was not keeping the motorcycle he rode in the film. They had lengthened and widened the frame to fit his 6'5" body on it. I wonder what ever happened to it?
They should definitely revisit this film and make a Directors Cut some of the deleted scenes I've seen where actually great! & of course, add in that skull
Logo or not, the movie absolutely kicks ass. Just sad that I had to import the dvd in from Australia because marvel doesn’t want to acknowledge its existence
The funny thing there is a skull symbol its on the knife's but end of the hilt it's tiny but its there! (can be seen better in the promotional photos) Never did like the director's decision to not include it on his shirt, without it hes just some guy dressed in black! I'm kinda happy he's a bit remorseful about not putting the skull symbol in the first place! lol
i forgive it. it's easily one of those things you can do thinking you're making it more grounded, but small enough to make a HUGE difference. I don't entirely blame the direct for it. he got experimental, and it doesn't always work out. that's all
Me and my brother have been saying for about a year now, with the level of editing today someone could go back and edit Punisher's skull logo onto his vest in the '89 flick! Now you just have to do the whole movie haha. Great job 👏
It would be cool if they hired you guys to do this and then they could release a Blu-ray special edition of this movie. That wait when you play the movie, you could choose whether you want the skull at it or not. The skull that is, not the extra blood effects or dubbing people out of the movie. LOL
Finally someone fixed this, I am a huge fan since the first appearance in Spiderman. It was originally supposed to be released in 89 in the U.S. but somehow produced and filmed in Australia. When I finally saw it it was a bootleg a friend of mine had and I was disappointed by why no Punisher Skull, well thank you for fixing that really looks great hopefully a rerelease could be made.
I think the best edits here definitely go to how you managed to get the shirt right along with keeping the shot focused on just Frank alone. The blood effects and the Jigsaw scars... does leave a lot to be desired, but that does require a lot more work. So, I'm just happy with the results overall! Kudos!!!
