    Any competition in fixed wing FC's is a good thing, thank you for highlighting this affordable new FC. Mid-pandemic the only ones I could get a hold of at reasonable prices, were the Chinese Wing-10FC boards... Always nervous when I'm flying with them, and replacing them one by one. This'll do nicely!

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Год назад +4

      I absolutely agree. Matek generally make really good FC's, but they've been getting steadily crazy expensive in recent years, so it's good to see some competition and a more reasonable price

    3:20 My first FPV fixed wing build(a Nano Goblin) I made the mistake of direct soldering everything, and I will never do it again. Even those specialty connectors have me a little wary. I don't know about everyone else, but my fixed wing builds get "fiddled" with quite a bit. Doing things like optimizing weight distribution, moving things to accommodate different parts or a bigger battery, improving airflow, even a hard crash that leaves you pulling everything out to repair the air frame. Direct soldering and flimsy connectors don't lend themselves to that kind of life. I'm glad to see some competition in the space and I hope we see more but I don't know if I would use this particular FC.

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Год назад +3

      I'm the same, I hate direct soldering. It usually ends up looking messy and is a pain to do maintenance on. I like the pin headers and dupont connectors. Easy to work with, and easy to make your own connectors

    If *ANY* of you have issues with soldering the servo headers on - *Send Them To Me* - I'll charge you one SpeedyBee F405 FC for however many FCs you need soldered up, lol. Or meet me at the field, I'll do it for you there for nuthin! _But_ I'm going to teach you how to solder while I'm at it.
    It's a great little fc for the planes I've installed them in so far; an Airloader and a Dolphin. I thought the Airloader's 6 servos may be a bit much for the servo BEC onboard, but even with all 6 stalled, it barely gets warm. Not really a fan of Wifi or BT - version control for the app is going to get out of control - but happy it's there, especially for the price!

    Considering the price - about 39€ (40-45 usd) its an amazing board! Honestly, didnt see a FC that cheap in years. Watched the market blow up with prices on the FCs, especially drones, which made me not buy certain wings as I've been out of the hobby for quite some time- that said, ill be building a wing as soon as I recieve the FC, cheers for the review!

    Hello, you have made a great video. I bought the FC as a result. After 2 hours of operation and setup, there was a short circuit on the circuit board and the FC caught fire. I contacted Speedybee directly because I had also bought the FC there. They then decided that it was not a fault with the circuit board and that they could give me a 30% discount if I bought it again. I think something like that should also be mentioned in a video. A regular customer warranty is simply rejected here. Greetings Georg😮

    You missed point about being able to switch between USB, WiFi, BLE with a long-press (6 sec) of the boot-loader button (6:06). The 'USB extender" also has a switch for disabling the buzzer, which could be a handy feature if working on a model while the family is sleeping. 🎶😱
    Thanks Giz, a very well done and entertaining box-opening, first-look at what I think is an impressive first Wing-FC offering from SpeedyBee. Was impressed reading product page and Quick Start Guide. Clearly they have done some research. Even provide guidance for pilots deciding between INAV, ArduPilot as to which FC software to use.The longer manual shown here does not yet have a PDF version. Hopefully flight logs on memory card are accessible via WiFi/BLE.
    LOL (7:47) .. foam snow, from a recent model crash. Nice of your buddy to play it forward. :)

      @gizfpv  Год назад +2

      I actually did record footage of the mode switching between WiFi, ble and Bluetooth, as well as how to turn on and off the led functionality, but opted not to use it in the end to keep the video from being too long. Figured all that info is in the manual, and people would be more interested in seeing what the FC could do, but not so much how to do it. I agree with you though, considering it's their first attempt at a fixed wing FC, speedybee has done a great job. They've clearly done their research, and put a lot of effort into the design. It doesn't feel like a cheap or rushed product. Hopefully it performs well. And LOL at foam snow, I should have thought of that myself 🤣

      When I first used a buzzer silence switch on a Matek board, I fell in love. Before that, I had a couple planes that played hard-to-get with GPS, so I'd power them off a USB power bank while they sought a GPS lock, Gorilla Tape over their buzzers lol
      Make sure to order an extended lead for the USB breakout though, the included cable is very wee, and at odds with an otherwise very well thought out product

      @@gizfpvthats the part that wories me. And keeping me from buying... they kind of fucked up the design. Soft mount the middleboard but putting har connectors in between. All vibration stress will then be put on the connector between board. So softmount does nothing but screwing up the connector in the long run (vibration will be getting to the gyro via connecors anyway... I think it was iflight that tried this and stopped becaus of issues. (More vibration in a quad but still a bad design)

    One good thing about the plugs: I presume you can always make them work by cutting and crossconnecting a couple of wires. To the more ham-fisted amongst us, that seems to be a safer route than soldering pin headers or wires to the actual board. But I guess you have to be ham-fisted to see that point at all, so kudos to you for missing it.

    • @gizfpv

      I was hoping to install mine in a Atomrc swordfish, but annoyingly couldn't find a PNP Swordfish in stock anywhere. Ended up buying the RTH version that comes with a FC, and once I realised the FC was quite good, decided not to take it out and replace with the Speedybee one. That's why I ended up giving it to my friend. But in general, I think it would work well in just about any aircraft, even a nano goblin. It's quite a small FC and doesn't weigh too much :)

    You buried the lede a little bit by not mentioning the price. I agree that there's some things about it that make me go "hmm", but man, for half the price of a Matek board, it's hard not to look. AtomRC also have an F405 wing board now, which I suspect is actually a rebranded Matek, because it looks basically identical to one of their older boards, but it, too, is very well priced.
    Separate thought: I notice you have gotten the iNav configurator to connect wirelessly. I haven't gotten that to work properly in a few years, but I found it really handy, especially for bigger (1.5m+) wings when you're trying to calibrate the accelerometer or something and that USB cable drags all your tools off your desk as you wave a huge plane around. Eventually I gave up trying. Any special tricks you do? Or just click the "wireless mode" toggle? The app is certainly great in the field, but at the bench it's nice to use the "real" configurator.

    • @gizfpv
      @gizfpv  Год назад +1

      I did mention the price.....although not till the very end 😂 Should have led with it tbh. Yes I've got the Atomrc board in my Swordfish, and so far it seems pretty good. As for the wireless connection to inav, it took a few attempts. I couldn't get WIFI or BLE to work, but standard bluetooth mode seemed to work great. Just had to connect via windows first, and then on inav configurator select wireless mode and that was it

      @@gizfpv oh I know you mentioned it but yeah I think that’s a big part of the attraction of this board, could overlook a few flaws at that price, and it doesn’t seem to be lacking much, aside from the connectors, and maybe a VTX power switch via PINIO.

    This softmount on middle board will putt stress on the connectors... there is a reason why quad stacks have a wire harness between fc and esc and not this solution. Matek has solid connecors between boards for this reason. (There where actually a few stacks back in time that had board connectors like this but it stoped due to problems... so either hardmount between pcbs or softmount with wire is the way to go if you like the thing to be reliable)

    • @mythrillium2
      @mythrillium2 Год назад

      Imo it'll be fine; 1) I see the same board connectors on my matek F405 and F411, and 2) it's not like you're thrashing around a FW like you would a drone (unless you're like me and send your wings through trees 🤦)
      Besides, isn't it kind of hard mounted already? I get the FC board is technically soft-mounted, but it is being sandwiched between hard-mounted boards as opposed to a 30x30 or 20x20 screw stack on a drone, there's no play in the SB wing stack that I've seen
