Currently gathering parts to build up a Reptile Dragon II and this is the FC i'm dropping into it. Great to hear I may have made the right choice! I love the Speedybee stuff and run their FCs in my race kwads.
I am very pleased with mine. I really like the possibility to connect wireless to configurator with my Ipad. I have used this every time out at the field for changes. I modified my old F4F Wildcat with this and had a lot of fun😊
Great news. Even though I love soldering, I feel my own tinkering will always put the board at some level of risk, not to mention the reliability of all my amateur joints in flight, and this product will obviously reduce that worry.
Rec'd mine and the usual SpeedyBee attention to detail , packaging is neat and clean ... going in a dusty new in the box Hobby King Go Discovery w/ INAV .. finally learned how not to crash .. lol....cheers !!
It's cheap but too large and heavy for the models i typically fly. I like the small connectors for UARTs. That makes sense and i hope other board manufacturers copy that idea because it only makes sense to use servo pin connectors for servos or similar high current devices that come with dupont connectors.
@@Jay-zc7iq I did order from the product site link the post’s author had used for the picture etc..that was midday yesterday, possibly they have temporarily sold out already. The need to use GH connectors isn’t a huge deal to me, but depending on the device might add extra work to make the wiring compatible. I personally find soldering the pins kind of relaxing and I have a nice iron, and it is easier to customize the wiring. But it’s not a deal-breaker. Other than that, the only thing that’s missing that I’d have liked to see is the ability to turn the VTX power on and off. That said, at half to 1/3 the cost of other wing boards, and given everything that it includes (if you’ve not used the SpeedyBee app, my word, it’ll change your life), this looks like a tough one to beat.
Thanks for this Review. Your video series on Pixhawk Multicopter Drone years back helped me build, torubleshoot and tune a Quad and a Hexacopter project. I would like to use the flight controller to rescue an RC Glider when it get lost out of sight, I would then flip a switch to return to the LZ and hopefully I can reacquire it to land.
Have never assembled a fixed wing but with the price getting more reasonable i am very interested in giving it a try in the near future. Have been doing some research on what i would need
This is why i Love Speedybee. At First their f405v3 Stack (i dont know why you should buy Something else) And now an Wing FC.... They Killing the Market prices 👍
I went back to my dealer when the going got tough. They went to China ! The Sun is brighter and the skies are bluer ! My speedy Bees are nearly ready to Buzz !
I've been saving money to buy a matek f405 but now with this speedy bee fc I think I have enough. One thing that is missing I think is PINI0 i.e ability to switch my dji a.u off and on remotely while waiting for gps lock.
Ordered this before price goes up once it gets noticed more. I wonder if this would fit my Flying fish and if the wiring with plugs for the Walksnail V2 vtx are included (could always solder to the vtx anyway). Time to start looking how to get the vtx and cam on the fuselage and not on top of the wing (in case of a crash, still a beginner ate fixed wings lol) These are great time for being in the hobby! It looks like we're going a leap forward again all around the hardware and firmware side of things! I hope they keep the price competitive so we keep getting these innovative products! Great and informative video as always Lee! Thanks you! Happy holidays!
Seems like a very good deal. Same price as the Matek F411. Only hesitation I might have is how I feel like I see a fair amount of people on reddit disapponted with the QC/durability of SpeedyBee's quad FC/ESCs burning out quickly.
I'm surprised they didn't try to add a built-in ELRS receiver, considering they already put their wireless ESP32 chip on-board. Shame this just got announced yesterday/today because I just ordered a dolphin RTH kit from atomrc thanks to your recommendations.
Hello, you have made a great video. I bought the FC as a result. After 2 hours of operation and setup, there was a short circuit on the circuit board and the FC caught fire. I contacted Speedybee directly because I had also bought the FC there. They then decided that it was not a fault with the circuit board and that they could give me a 30% discount if I bought it again. I think something like that should also be mentioned in a video. A regular customer warranty is simply rejected here. Greetings Georg😮😫
BTW, any of you guys came up with unusual EKF3 info then went to a crash recently? Me and fellow pilots had a lot of crashes these months, many of them report that OSD showed something like EKF3 Active, DCM Active, or other EKF info they don't understand(Chinese user mainly). Most of us use boards with Matek F405 TE firmware, version 4.3 series. I don't know if that's really connected or only we are not doing things right.
Great review. The only thing I forsee being a pain in the backside is if you wanted to mount your rx or anything out farther from the fc. Having to cut and splice is never fun. Unless maybe there's a better way to do it?
I bought one the day I saw this, and it will be at my door shortly. There's a cheap-as-chips Airloader in it's future, and we're gonna put the in-built LED controller to the test for my Night-Flying catfish. For what I've been spending on Matek 405's I can have two of these; Great find Lee!!! Question for the group: Analog Starlight Cameras, I've researched as much as I can, and it looks like a Foxeer Cat 3 is the ticket, but I'm open to any experienced opinions? I'd like to have day and night capability, without swapping IR/Non-IR lenses. Thoughts?
Great vids. Question: I do not have much space in my plane and the current spektrum bnf receiver is right smack in the middle of what little space I do have. I plan to remove the receiver and put this stack there. Any suggestions on where I should move the receiver to? I'll have enough room on either side of this stack to fit the skinny receiver flipped on its side. but itll be snug asainst the wall and it won't be in the center of the plane anymore. Will the As3x in my plane be overridden by the FC stability system? Will I have to find a way to disable it? And if so, does orientation matter at that point? I'd put it on the wall to give the fc some breathing room.
I wouldn't install a separate stabiliser along with a flight controller. I think that would just make everything far too confusing and get you into a lot of trouble. Best of luck
OMG...This first time I just ordered it without finishing the video. This looks like it will go together very easily. Can't wait to stick it in my new build!!!🥹
Mostly with the power distribution. You need more than two power outputs and (for larger models) may end up having to bypass the PDB built into this flight controller completely. Check out my VTOL builds on the channel. Happy flying!

Do you have any videos explaining how to install an FC in an already completed fixed wing. Last question I promise… I have the ailerons both going into the same channel on my receiver. when I put a fc in it, does the fc need to be able to control them independently? I.e. be plugged into different outputs on the fc?

This is interesting. But what can you program into it. Say I want to control a set of levcons and I need them to perform different moves depending on speed or angle of attack. Is this type of flight controller capable of doing that?
Tried to order but it wants my Paypal money before giving a shipping cost. I'm in Canada so I don't want a big surprise. They are no doubt in China so is it free shipping everywhere?
Hi Was wondering if you could help. I have a cheap Chinese bait boat and was wondering if I could upgrade the electronics inside. was thinking of getting fs-i6x Transmitter with a fs-ia 10b Receiver and 2 bi directional esc as its has 2 motors and adding the speedybee Flight controller with a GPS so I could put ardupilot boat so a can make Way points and return home Function and maybe a cam. I think this is possible with This flight controller ?
The same as any other flight controller that runs something INAV. Lots if UARTS on here for sensors if you want to add them. Matek are the ones I use here..
Thank you for sharing! I just bought one today, but could you let me know whether I can use my FlySky FS-I6 TX and FS-IA6B RX to connect to the FC? If not, what would you suggest? Thank you.
@@Painless360 Thanks. I am a newbie and not so sure since on the cover of FS-IA6B RX, it is written i-Bus. I want to make sure if I need to purchase a suitable RX for this FC.
Is there any tutorial for building an uav with this kind of board ? What other components should I add to this to make it fly ? And the programmation, it is very complicated for a noob like me ? Thanks for any tips !
I soldered my first Speedy Bee Wing and thought that was really easy. Imagine my disappointment when it failed the inav receiver screen test on UART 2.(No response on any channel.) I spent a week asking questions and made no progress. I decided that I must have scrambled the flashing with some error in the ports page. Tested that theory by setting up a second unit with precisely the same result. Have asked all the usual qestions. Tested SBus polarity. Tested the Sbus link with a standard airframe (No F/C) AOK. Any thoughts ??? Radio is passing all telemetry and range tests. Weird !!! Sudden thought !!! What does the boot button do on the USB connector ???
Please check out my INAV for Beginners series. I show all the steps. SBUS should be super easy to get working if the right port is used and the right setup is in INAV... Best of luck.
Appears it covers a wide range of ability. The one question i will pose before someone else may mention it what about Remote ID ? You know that nonsense the regulators are demanding come September of this year ? My understanding was manufacturers of aircraft were to have RID modules PRE-Installed to be able to sell in the U.S. for example . BUT I see no one doing it outside a few drone companies. I do not see plane manufacturers doing anything and here we see no Flight control board makers even mentioning it in their creations? Just curious Where and how would a RID module attach to a FC board in this case ? OR are these modules self contained and only need a power source? I assume it would have to have FC board attachment or it could not broadcast the info a FC board gives ? Any idea's ? Again just a curious thought.
Good first try. But why soft mount middleboard and put connectors inbetween?!? All vibration stress will be on connectors. Iflight and dys did this back in the days and stopped becaus of issues... quads are more vibration prone yes but still. Should not be rubbergromets but hard mounting in-between boards or wire harness in-between them. (There is a reason there is wires and not connecors inbetween esc and fc on a quad)
@@Painless360 exactly. I have a lot of matek boards myself and they are solid... Im guessing it will take a lot of time in a plane to cause issues but still a bad design having a connector taking all the stress (Still considering this fc but will then 3d print something hard to replace that rubber... hopping speedybe sees this and changes the standoffs)
As a new person trying to get their head around all of this, what is the wireless for? For me it would to be able to talk to QGroundControl on your computer. But the manual says the WIF range is 3-10 meters. If that is true, how do you use QGroundControl, and what good is the wifi?
Speedybee make an APP that can run on your phone and connect to the WiFi/BT and allow you to setup and change the config at the field. All without a computer! :D
@@Painless360 I have to be able to change waypoints on the fly, for multiple devices (boats) , hence QGroundControl. Maybe I need to look at the Radiolink options. Thanks for your videos!
@@Painless360 i figured but then sometimes you also have to move around the order of the wires and what not. At any rate thanks for another great video and hope to see one of you running it with walksnail soon
newbie question, when you say end of life does that mean production or they're no longer programmable/rendered useless? I have purchased both of these FC. a speedy bee F405 and a secondhand Matek F405 FC to put in some fixed wing's I have recently acquired. what do you think about these flight controllers for a beginner?
A lot of the recent changes with flight controllers have been due to chip shortages. Flight control software like INAV, Betaflight and Ardupilot usually carry on support for 'retired' flight controller hardware for years and years so don't worry.. Happy flying!
@@Painless360 phew! thanks lee. it means a lot. really excited to get into this part of the hobby, especially with these FC's which have had made a lot of noise in the fixed wing area. happy flying too you too!
There are brushless units that can do that. Some are designed for wheeled vehicles. Some for planes that need a reverse (like float planes)... Happy flying
wires and connectors - do they provide what kind of connector is used? it is nightmare to match with other devices, in my case, it always end with soldering...
With the Matek H743-Wing having gone from $80 to $125, this is a nice option.
remember when a guy could pick up F411-WING boards for like $40 bux? Competition is a good thing.
hopefully better warranty too

I went ahead and ordered, there is a free shipping option, takes over a month but that's ok.
Yeah the default option is free shipping. Further reduce the unnecessary cost imo.
Can i use wifi onboard for telemetry??
Tgank you
Hi Was wondering if you could help. I think this is possible with This flight controller ?
ardupilot.org/copter/docs/common-speedybeef405wing.html 😁
Hello Lee, How can you get the black box data from the SD without having to remove it?
I am not sure. Next time I have this out, I'll try!
Good morning, what Gps module, and what speed sensor are compatible with this controller, what other sensors could be installed? Thank you!
The same as any other flight controller that runs something INAV. Lots if UARTS on here for sensors if you want to add them. Matek are the ones I use here..
@@Painless360 thanks good information!
Thank you for sharing! I just bought one today, but could you let me know whether I can use my FlySky FS-I6 TX and FS-IA6B RX to connect to the FC? If not, what would you suggest? Thank you.
If the reciever you have talks SBUS then yes... Happy flying
Yep. Lots of build series on the channel aimed at beginners... Best of luck
If they can do a vTol FC for my T1 I be interested.
Would this board be OK to put ardurover on to use in a twin motor boat as an autopilot
Ardupilot is listed on the website so looks like it...
www.speedybee.com/speedybee-f405-wing-app-fixed-wing-flight-controller/
Hello, thank you for your great video. I have a question can I use this FC speedybee with ardupilot boat?
Yeah, if it is supported on Ardupilot. See my video on how to check...
Merci 😉
Hi, just wondering if the speedy bee supports OLED screen ?
Should do. I don't use them anymore as they can cause issues. I use an OSD or the LUA script to monitor the FC. Happy flying
Just curious
Where and how would a RID module attach to a FC board in this case ? OR are these modules self contained and only need a power source? I assume it would have to have FC board attachment or it could not broadcast the info a FC board gives ? Any idea's ?
Again just a curious thought.
Any ideas anyone?
Wouldn't that be a component of the actual receiver though?
Good first try. But why soft mount middleboard and put connectors inbetween?!? All vibration stress will be on connectors. Iflight and dys did this back in the days and stopped becaus of issues... quads are more vibration prone yes but still. Should not be rubbergromets but hard mounting in-between boards or wire harness in-between them. (There is a reason there is wires and not connecors inbetween esc and fc on a quad)
Until I've flown it, I can't comment. Matek FCs are hard bolted and I don't have issues. Not sure what the yellow rubber pieces are doing here..
Hello sir
How to use/convert speedybee f405 v3 drone flight controller to wing
Check out ruclips.net/video/XWv7aG7z22o/видео.html
Or you can use something like the 'AIRPORT mode' on ExpressLRS to send the MAVLink telemetry back... Best of luck!
Is it difficult to get working with ardupilot? I need to upgrade from an old apm and just bout the runcam openIPC cam thing so was wondering.
No, same process as I've shown using an Omnibus and other boards. I use Betaflight to flash the Ardupilot code onto it... best of luck
Will this work with my Elmic Commander escapement and MacGregor Terrytone receiver?
I've not seen one of those with a flight controller in it yet.. Happy flying!
Is it possible to install two fpv analog cameras and switch between the two?
Yes, with analogue FPV. Things like camera switchers and second camera connections on some flight controllers make it easy to setup. Best of luck
Would the walksnail VTX be a plug and play affair? Or would the wires need to be arranged differently?
It'll probably use the same port as the DJI system and use the GND, power and TX and RX pins..
Is it able to provide 9V on the VTX output when using a 2S battery?
I'll test it when I build it. I'm guessing not but I'll see. Stay tuned!
you would think somebody would put an elrs receiver in a flight controller by now - do we have to spell it out to these companies?
www.mateksys.com/?portfolio=f405-wte ?
PARA LA CONECION A CAMARA SONY A6000 COMO SERIA
Any hands on tests coming ?
Yeo, make sure you are subscribed and have the bell notification icon selected... Happy flying
@@Painless360 Great ! ... can only do $1. Still waiting for the EM jackpot ... 🙂
Hello, can be install ESC Bidirectional (forward and reverse motor brushless)?
There are brushless units that can do that. Some are designed for wheeled vehicles. Some for planes that need a reverse (like float planes)... Happy flying
@@Painless360 What about if INAV 6.0.0 (my FC is AocodarcV2)?
That is can't arming because Throttle at center (1500us) ...I am headed for setting it.
I've never used one with INAV. If it is supported it'll be in the docs. Sorry I can't be more help
wires and connectors - do they provide what kind of connector is used? it is nightmare to match with other devices, in my case, it always end with soldering...
JST-GH I believe.
that's the problem - guess - why not to make a note about??
Do you know if this fc is compatible with spectrum Dsmx receivers?
You need a reciever that'll talk sbus or CRSF... Happy flying
Can build a drone using this flight controller? or just quadplane
Yes, it comes with Arducopter installed by default.
I just cant get the rudder servo to work. Is there a discord channel or any group could help please? thank you
What troubleshooting have you already done?
