I have a pretty hunched back due to years of sitting in front of the computer. I also have major self esteem issues so the moment I saw myself in a video and realized how hunched my back really is, I started obsessing about it and feel more insecure. All videos I found before were concentrating on how to FIX the posture because of how ugly it is, and how it's giving you a double chin which is also very unattractive. While I recognize the damage this posture can do, it was not helpful at all to keep hearing about how unattractive the posture is. It made me not even want to do the workouts in those videos.
Until I found this video. All in all, I want to say a huge thank you for making improvement enjoyable and not focusing on the negative sides. You explained the benefits of a better posture in a non-invasive or derogatory way. You made me feel like change IS possible . Thank you.

I totally understand what you mean. Adriene speaks with such kindness in this video and doesn't make us feel like there is a reason to be ashamed of our bodies or our posture. Like she said, it's basically just something our body learned with practice. Nothing to be ashamed of.

can you please keep us updated with how much (or little) this yoga routine has helped your back? I’m going through a very similar problem where my back is completely hunched because of sitting in front of my textbooks for too long.

@@Jane-gz3nn Not OP obviously, but I have serious issues with neck/shoulder pain from working at a computer for years, and this video has helped me tremendously. I do it a few times a week. Sometimes its just my routine, and sometimes it is in response to pain. My posture has improved a lot, and I experience less pain!
You might want to think about changing how you study, too. Adriene's advice about not working in a bad position, and cutting off your spinal energy, helped me a lot too. I bought a couple monitors, and started focusing on typing without looking, so I don't bend my neck so much during the day. You might want to invest in one of those stands you can put textbooks on, so you can read with good posture : )

I felt emotional for the first half of this class! Have been struggling with a pinched nerve in my neck for 1.5 months. It happened after I stopped doing regular yoga practice. We don't always realise how important stretching and strengthening exercises are until we get injured! I will see it as a blessing and more of an incentive to get back into daily yoga practice, when I can. A little can go a long way.

But the most amazing part is when you stand up taller, you feel like you can take up space in this world. Adriene, I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am. I started doing yoga December 31, 2016, with your 30-day Yoga Camp and haven’t missed a day of yoga since, even when I broke my toe, when I had the flu, when I had major surgery to remove my ovarian cancer. (Granted, a lot of those days were only a few minutes long or comprised entirely of meditation/breathing exercises to allow for my injuries.) Now as I’m still recovering I can’t yet do your videos again, but thanks to the poses and techniques you’ve taught me over the past year and a half, I can formulate my own gentle sequences and gradually work my way back up as I heal. Yoga has changed my life for the better and I can’t thank you enough for sharing it with all of us.

I do all I can physically to offset the fact that I spend a lot of time in front of a computer writing, but it took me longer than I'd care to admit to clue into a work setup that was easier on my neck. I have had a bad habit of bending at my spine instead of bending at my hips. I have a job where I bend over all day. You can see where this is going. I have had back pain for a couple of weeks now. I'm pretty sure I pinched a nerve or something doing a spinal flex with poor form.
Anyway, after working all day trying to be mindful of my posture by bending at the hips my back was screaming. I did this session and literally all of my pain is gone. ABSOLUTELY GONE. I am so shocked. I've been doing a few different sessions focusing on the neck and back, but none were really giving me any solid relief - until now.
I just want to say thank you, Adriene, for being such a beautiful human being. You have really helped me grow as a person with my daily yoga practice. It has been a full year now. I started during the quarantine. Cheers! Namaste!

You rock Adriene, I have come back to my yoga practice throughout the years because I feel like I always have a friendly workout buddy in your videos. What separates you from the many other yoga instructors on the internet, is your humble spirit and your deliverance of everything yoga without sounding condescending to your students. You are very detailed and thorough with every new position, making sure the beginner does not hurt themselves and also giving the most advanced a great workout experience. You never disappoint, my wish for you is that you know how many people you reach and teach to nurture themselves. Which makes the world a better place. I hope you never stop posting your videos. Thank you for following your calling!

Last time I did this one I totally forgot one of Adriene’s messages not to crank into positions. Years ago I could quite easily do Bow and Camel so I didn’t think much about it when I pretzeled myself into them. I managed to get into it but let’s just say I paid for it. For the next 7 days I was off calendar doing yoga for lower back pain. So this time I was much wiser and just went to my comfortable edge and listening to my aging body not my memories of what I used to be able to do. Ended up loving this practice and happy with the modifications. Lesson learned!

Who knew I could do Camel and Fish? My first time trying them, and my body said yes! There has been something so transformative about taking this practice with me to Spain and engaging in a new setting. It seems to have allowed me to break through some previously held barriers. I’ve noticed a tearful gratitude at the end of these practices, too, for the yoga and for this beautiful country that held me in its arms as a 19-year-old student and opened up my life forever. Gracias, España, por haberme amado cuando me hacía falta, y gracias, Adriene, por el amor a través de la práctica diaria. Un abrazo. Oh, PS Sonia Gil is my French goddess! I used Fluenz French 1 and 2 before my most recent trip to Paris and voilà! I was thrilled with how much I learned, and how quickly. Fluenz is a great program, and Adriene, being fluent in another language will blow your life WIDE OPEN. I’m so excited for you - adelante, pues vale la pena el esfuerzo para alcanzarlo y realizar TU SUEÑO!

    * 2/24/23: decided to come back to this practice because I wanted something just a tad shorter and because I needed to stretch my neck/back, but i love the reminder “try to do a little something everyday.” really just puts it into perspective that you don’t have to do an hour long yoga video if you don’t want to, 20 min is enough, even 5 min. align day 19 ⭐️

I'm a massage therapist of 14 years and strained my neck (SCM). Received a massage and the assisted stretching seemed to address tight fascia of the chest and arms. With our bones acting as levers, as in yoga, I can restore and bring relief and healing to my body. Thank you for addressing all aspects of who we are the energetic body, physical body, mental body, etc. I've actually worked with a Physical Therapist recently using KT tape on the front of my body to help me feel the head over heart, heart over pelvis, alignment. I was leaning way back. Looked like an E.T., lol. Thank yoy Adriene for making yourself available to healing the world one step at a time, through yoga, using your gifts and talents. This is what I need now at this time. I will be challenging myself on all levels through your other courses. All my love to you.

PLAY day 18. For the first time in a long time, I could not get through the whole practice. On a normal day I easily would have, but I got two vaccines today, one on each arm, and my sore vaccine arms + feeling slight side effects made yoga difficult to do today. I only got through 17 minutes of this 28 minute practice, much of that time resorting to child's pose because of my vaccine arms, but I'm still glad I made time to get on the mat today. I didn't want to completely skip my daily practice today, but sometimes you just gotta find what feels good. So instead of skipping, I found what felt good. I have been doing YWA daily since 5/26/22, meaning I am coming up on 5 months. Since then I've only skipped 5 days (4 days I was on vacation and didn't have the time, 5th day I had the Rona and it was the day I tested positive and that day was when I felt the worst out of all the days I had it). Yoga has truly been a game changer for me and every day I'm realizing more and more what good a little time on the mat every day can do.
