Action-packed Marvel comics film directed by Ryan Coogler. We rejoin Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett) in the techno-futuristic African country of Wakanda as they mourn the loss of Prince T’Challa/Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) after he dies of a mysterious ailment. As the country comes to grips with the loss of their charismatic leader, new threats start to emerge from the woodworks, chief among them a winged merman “Namor” (Tenoch Huerta) who seems to represent a hidden Meso-American tribe with access to ungodly amounts of Vibranium, who doesn’t seem to have peaceful co-existence on his agenda. How Wakanda handles this disruptive change to the global power structure forms the rest of the story.
Tenoch Huerta is an absolute revelation as “Namor”, a winged mutant superhero based in the depths of the ocean, a Marvel Comics creation that came much before DC Comics’ “Aquaman”, in 1939, created by writer-artist Bill Everett. Kevin Feige and the think tanks at Marvel brilliantly reconned his origin story from Greek origins based in Atlantis to Meso-American heraldry that achieved the proverbial “hitting two birds with one stone” bullseye.
With stunning imagery, dance and musical numbers, and moving farewell and tribute sequences, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” will be enshrined as a fitting farewell to Chadwick Boseman, who reflected everything expected of a true superhero even in his real life, by bravely fighting cancer. With the introduction of Dominque Thorne aka “Iron Heart” and the revelation of “Namor” as MCU’s second mutant after “Ms. Marvel”, the film also serves up the promise of the upcoming Phase 5 as Phase 4 draws to a close.

I know it was only a small quibble; but I don't think we can blame the lack of our favorite vegetarian on the filmmakers. There can never be too much M'Baku lol

I love how silent the opening logo and ending scenes are, they felt special in a way not many movies feel.
And there's a wind noise which parallels what Queen Ramonda said to Shuri 'I found him in the breeze pushing me forward' and we see shuri denying it bc she's an objective scientific kind of person but at the end she felt it and heard it too symbolizing she has reached some degree of spirituality and acceptance towards death and loss and grief.. Really beautiful character arc for Shuri and cinematic detail.
I got chills in the theatre when the intro came up. For me it was like a moment of silence to honor Chadwick

Beyond brutal, He blames everyone on the surface for the things that happened to his mother , her people and their land. Which isn’t fair to be honest. He’s blaming the current people for things that the Spanish Conquistadors did thousands of years ago.
Yes, as a longtime fan of Namor who’s never thought we’d see a live action version of him, they definitely got him right & I love the creative choices they took with him

The Oak, you're the only reactor I've seen that has noticed that line that Queen Ramonda said to Shuri about her ''finding him/feeling him in the breeze'' and I'd like to add too that at the end when we're given those scenes of Chadwick we only hear a breeze and see that SHURI WAS FINALLY FEELING WHAT HER MOM TOLD HER after she initially denied it, signaling that she has found a sense of spirituality and acceptance towards death and loss and grief and i loooove that character arc for Shuri bc she went from being the objective sciencey person to obtaining some wisdom and healing
And even in that marvel logo sequence w Chadwick, they played that same breeze sound. Loved that sm!! Just wanted to point those parallels.

At first you guys scoffed at Namor and his people when they jumped off the whale. I remember watching this in theaters and feeling so emotional when I saw them all. Seeing Latino/indigenous actors on the big screen was amazing! As a Latina with indigenous roots, I felt so much pride. Glad you guys ended up liking Namor!

That's exactly how I and all black people felt when when got the first black panther. I was also so happy that the Latino community would get to feel the same thing.

Cultural note: Although Shuri is Toussaint's blood relative (aunt), Aunty/Auntie is also a cultural name many African American communities ascribe to a woman who is important in some way; a loving leader, spirtual advisor, neighborhood mom. It is a term used to show love for a woman you may or may not be related to while acknowledging that we are all family and connected. When Erik/Killmonger uses the Aunty in the first Black Panther you can see the discomfort on everyone's faces. He uses it to dig at Queen Ramonda that she is his actual aunt and she didn't know it. Also he uses it to mock that she (and Wakanda as a whole) abandoned him and other black communities- they looked out for themselves and not the larger group like a "real" aunty would.
The only culture I haven't seen do the uncle or auntie culture thing are white cultures. I'm Filipino and I see it in our neighbor countries as well.
@@bi_smth a lot of white European people do it as well. I’m mixed Thai and live in Ireland and it’s normal here too, especially close family friends. I guess it’s just white Americans really that don’t do it.
@@bi_smth It's normal in America it's just not every random older person you know - it's like your dad or your mom's best friend you knew growing up. And we don't usually use it in movies unless that's firmly established which is probably why it seems uncommon, and we don't refer to them as that to others generally without including that we aren't related. It's still definitely a thing though.
No, it's used in America as well in that way. My mother made one of her best friends my (and my sisters) godmother, and we would always call her Aunt Donna despite no relation. I've seen other people be called aunt (or auntie) for different reasons too. Just because you don't see it in American movies doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Angela Bassett becoming the first actor to win a Golden Globe for an MCU movie...huge. And her flowers are WAY overdue. Love that woman!
The thing that impressed me the most? They didn't CGI Chadwick back in. They could've - Marvel has that technology. And I will bet money that some studio exec wanted them to.
But Ryan Coogler and the writers didn't. They made it a true memorial, where both us and the people within the story could grieve his loss in a meaningful way.
I'm so happy they chose not to cheapen it that way. As much as I've love to see him one more time (and I was kinda expecting to when Shuri went to the ancestral plane), I'm glad they didn't. While it was painful to watch, we needed this. It was real, and that's a good thing.
Fun fact, Namor came before Aquaman-about two years, I believe. They had to change his backstory heavily for this film because in the comics, he drew way too many parallels with Aquaman (e.g. Atlantis was changed to Talokan, among other things).

You know, the name pronunciation I thought was incredibly clever. It's quite providential how close "Sin Amor" is, I quite enjoy the lore update, and hope it sticks moving forward. Though, I haven't picked up a comic in years, admittedly. I think it gives a new audience some representation.
@@tristanpicotte7784 can’t use that in comics because Namora and him names mean “avenging son” or “avenging daughter” in comics. It kind of works for mcu though since they have acknowledged they’re related and probably won’t since she doesn’t have her full powers.

I know people said Winston Duke wasn't used enough, but he really was. He was there when Shuri really needed some advice and support. Remember he was there for her to challenge anyone for the throne at the end. We all know she couldn't do that so he was there for her. I had to back up and look at that and when I realized what he was doing. Maybe I am wrong, but that is what I took away from that scene.
Of course we all want more Winston Duke but I think his presence in this film was evenly balanced and important. The ending let us know that he will be way more involved in the next installment.

I'm pretty sure what they were doing was paying off the line earlier about letting the nation take shelter in Jabari country they would owe him a great debt. The debt being He will now challenge for the mantle of Ruler/king unopposed separating the 2 formally. Shuri is the "protector/BP" while M'Baku is king remember as well "it's a wonder how any of you get anything done!" A remark he makes right before the new Black Panther Shuri debuts.

I don’t typically cry over his loss, but they nailed the feelings of helplessness and dread that comes with losing a sibling.

My mother died of a brain tumor nine years ago. My name is Zuri. Hers was Rhonda. I was 15 when she passed away, 18 when the first Black Panther was released. Because I was a high-achieving student and had just gotten into a prestigious university, my family said that I was "their Shuri".
Ramomda's death was the emotional equivalent of being punched in the face. I almost had to leave the theater, and this was actually the *third* time a Marvel movie had gotten me that badly.
"Show him who you are."
Her mother's important quote touched her daughter's heart and soul and gave her strength to help her overcome her rage and vengeance and be filled with mercy and peace.
It's also the same quote that Ramonda shouts out at T'Challa during the challenge of the first movie that gives him the strength to beat him, and he offers M'Baku to yield so he could be there for his people, same as Shuri does with Namor...
I will never forget Opening Night of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" during the funeral scene and just hearing the sniffling and crying over the moment of silence during The Marvel Studios intro. Rest in Peace King Chadwick Boseman. ✊🏽🙏🏽💙
Namor is pronounced properly as NA-MORE as how the character himself says it. Other characters uses the NAY-MORE pronunciation.
On the dollar store Aquaman comment, Namor actually came before Aquaman by 2 years and is one of Marvel’s oldest characters and generally considered its first anti-hero. Namor has always skirted between the lines of good and evil depending on the story or perspective, he’s never fully one kind of character. And because Ryan Coogler based Wakanda on the cultures of various different kinds of real life African tribes, he and Marvel decided to do that for Namor as well, basing his culture on Mayan and other Latin American indigenous groups. This way it not only distinguishes Namor from Aquaman since both in the comics are rulers of Atlantis, but also gives depth and representation and acknowledgment to cultures often forgotten by the western world that colonized them. Namor is a dangerous and unpredictable character to definitely keep an eye on.
Ryan Coogler has also spoken that the original script was about T’Challa and his son and dealing with the grief/loss of time after the 5 year Blip when he was gone. They took some of those themes of grief and healing and family bonding from the original story and reworked it into the new story. This film really does juggle a lot and it is admirable what they managed to pull off.
And Riri Williams, the scientist girl with the Iron Man armor, she will be seen in her own TV series soon called Ironheart. We will be seeing more of her as well.
Ross will be next seen in the very soon upcoming Secret Invasion tv show. And as for Val, we know for sure she will be in the Thunderbolts movie next summer which will end Phase 5.
As a Mexican and indigenous I felt very proud to see people who look like me, and more for Mabel Cadena (Namora) because she is part of the same indigenous group as me (Nahuas), in Mexico only use white people for TV and movies , we have never felt represented until now.
This movie was the cast's way of grieving Chadwick. I love how much that plays out throughout the movie. You have to think... they knew Chadwick through all of these movies, getting to experience him firsthand in a way that... none of us ever will. From everything that I've seen of him, I have to believe that he was every bit as noble as he comes across on the screen. I saw this movie in theaters on opening weekend, and it... absolutely blew me away.
Heartbreaking but for me it was quite cathartic. I was so upset over Chadwick passing but by the end of this film it felt like my heart had lifted. I’ve had unresolved grief over the death of my mother and somehow it helped with it a lot. If you’ve ever lost someone close to you this film will hit you hard.
P.S. on a lighter note I loved Namor and his people. If you haven’t seen Narcos: Mexico I recommend it highly. Tenoch Huerta is one of the main characters- he’s awesomely insane 😆

I've seen this move take some flack for being over drawn-out and kinda on the "boring" side. Not me though. I fucking loved every minute of this movie. It felt more like a drama with some action in it, rather than a straight comic-book action movie. Great reaction fellas.
Certain people have already decided on how they would view this movie long before they actually saw it. This movie is perfectly good for what it was tasked to do given the situation they were put into.

By the end of the movie he got his anonymity back when everyone forgot he was Spiderman.
And since that knowledge was the only reason he was rejected, he would be obviously back in.
@@greyscalesxno. It wasn’t everyone forgot he was Spider-Man in the end. That was the original version of the spell that failed in the beginning. In the end everyone forgot Peter Parker existed. There is no record of him anywhere and he had a textbook to study for his GED.
@@vijayanand6650 that makes little sense though. If he's getting a GED it means his high-school diploma doesn't exist which isn't possible. Ppl might forget he exists but paperwork doesn't just disappear.
If he has no paperwork, he has no ID or birthcertificate either & is now an illegal in the usa, so he definitely wouldn't be able to get a GED either.
So if his paperwork is valid, his MIT application exist & if they don't he is Spiderman. They have no reason to refuse him.
Maybe he didn't make the enrollment deadline.. but there is no reason for him to not try & apply to another university or not have any high-school graduation records at all.

As a latina, Namor and Talokan was amazing to see. The Americas are still suffering from the effects of colonization and so much of our history, culture and traditions were lost to time. Seeing indigenous, pre columbian people as this superpower felt so fucking good. Both Wakanda and Talokan fell victim to machinations of the western world and i think that's the tragedy of it. Two societies that should be fighting together against those that want to hurt them, start fighting each other because of misunderstandings and fear. I hope we get to see them as allies in the future
THIS!! During the big fight at the end, I actually yelled at the screen "Stop fighting! You're fighting the wrong people!" It may have been the first time watching a movie where I felt each death on each side meant something, where each was a real loss.
Namor had good reasons behind what he did. So did Killmonger. Their ultimate goal was to protect their people. It was their choice of solution that was wrong, by becoming the same as those that brutalized them. In the end, all it did was hurt their people - again.
These are complex issues, and I'm so happy to see them tackled in popular movies like this.
@@lunacouer that generational trauma is hard to get rid off. Also something i realized later is that Wakanda was never colonized as Talokan. They never suffered like other african nations and indigenous people so i think that shaped many of the actions. Namor and the talokanil know what losing your entire identity feels like, so they are more agressive and ruthless in their quest to protect themselves

This movie was so emotional and so heartfelt. You could feel everything the actors felt and they all did such a great job navigating through their feelings of grief and loss to give us this. I love that they didn’t recast T’Challa. In this universe at least, the role should stay with him. But I also love that they presented an opportunity to tell the stories that were never told by possibly using the young Prince T’Challa instead. We get more T’Challa stories eventually and we keep Chadwick’s amazing performance and tribute intact. A total win-win in my book
I loved this movie, especially seeing my wife’s face glow with Talokan and everything about them. She’s from Mayan descent and could understand what they were saying without reading the Mayan subtitles
I forgot to mention the set designs. Absolutely gorgeous. The set designers actually created alot of sets where usually green screens would be used. The throne room for example. All that is real. The lab is a real set. Angela B. was saying how easy it is to get into character because of this.
The costume designers. My God, Namors headress and the Talocan people's costumes.....so fabulous.
You could hear a pin drop in the theater during the opening logo and ending tribute scenes. Such a respectful and fitting tribute.🖤
I just recently watched this movie. My brother dies a few months before it released and I didn't think I could deal with Shuri's grief on top of my own. But I liked it.

Namor was amazing in this. The performances were just amazing all round. As someone with a brother, I can't imagine losing him like that. It actually made me appreciate him being around and brought us closer in some way.

Fun fact: There was supposed to be a romance between Shuri & Namor that was deleted; But I definitely felt some chemistry that I hope gets explored at a later date. One thing is for sure, they would make one helluva POWER COUPLE !!! 🤔😀

I think it would be a spin on the relationship T'Challa and Storm had in the comics. Since Chadwick is gone, having Shuri and Namor being together wouldn't be too far off. A human with superhuman abilities from an herb being with a mutant.

I saw this 2x in the movie theatre. I cried both times. It was an extremely emotional experience for me. The acting by Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Tenoch Huerta, was top tier. Loved your reaction.
I feel like they handled Chadwick and his legacy and loss with such care and respect. It was so beautifully done. They really put honour on his name.
This entire movie OOZES grief, It's a film that was meant to grieve Chadwick Boseman, and it was heavy. But i really hope the Shuri can actually join forces with Namor in the end, I don't want them to be at war because They LITERALLY have the same enemies.
My gf never really cared for Marvel/DC stuff, but she was real curious about this. She got in her feels because EVERYONE knows about Chadwick and she appreciated the impact he had + how the movie handled it. I was giving her little bits of info about the previous movie and Thanos throughout to add weight to Queen Mother's speeches and Killmonger's appearance.
She really really REALLY liked this movie - especially Namor, and she gave a LOT higher than 3.75 😁
I liked the ending where the queen says "Show him who you are." This was reminiscent of what the queen said to T'Challa in the first film, and to what he did overall by showing the world who Wakanda is. Also, when Shuri says that vengeance is consuming them and they can't let it consume their people, it's reminiscent of T'Challa's comments about Captain America and Ironman as he spared Zemo. I love them bringing things full circle.
I cried throughout the whole movie when I watched it in the theaters. It was AMAZING and I'm so happy I was able to experience such a great movie with other people and hear their reactions. It was really cool that Marvel gave him a moment of silence. Chills everytime.
What an amazing film considering the sadness that proceeded it. A wonderful tribute to Chadwick while at the same time expanding the Marvel universe. Bassett is a QUEEN and will win the Oscar.
I really liked Ku'Kul'Kan. The Mayan-inspired costumes are badass especially the headdresses. Being Indigenous and knowing some Mayan history, I immediately knew who his character was based off of. It didn't cross my mind that he was a "dollar store" version of Aquaman. It's great to hear the Mayan language being spoken in a major American movie. I presume it will inspire the younger generation to keep this beautiful and ancient language alive for more future generations. I give this movie a 3.8.
I feel the same! I was just scrolling the comment section in hope someone will notice more than just oh it's like aquaman :p To hear the Mayan gave me chills, and to see all the constumes and jewlery just was mindblowing! It was beautifully done :)

I was lucky enough to have seen this on opening night. Between the funeral scene and the silenced intro, the theater was silently crying. The entire movie had the theater dead silent. It was so heartwarming to hear how respectful the fans were

I believe Angela Bassett won her Golden Globe this year because of the scene where Ramonda strips Okoye of her rank.
This movie is incredible, amazing and perfect. The character arc they did for Shuri was perfect, her mom and everyone here, including the villains, were astonishing. They did AN INCREDIBLE job by going around the fact that Chadwick died and doing a tribute to him and also following the story of the rest of the characters and wakanda. This is a five answers for me. Amazing reaction!! Can't wait to see you react to more.

after hearing about the possible, CGI ing of Chadwick Boseman in this film, the possible recasting; I am so so glad this is how this film came out. It is so impactful, so brilliant, so beautifully done, this is the only way this film could have been made. This film is so important for so many people, especially the black community, and for this franchise to continue, especially this storyline, the black panther is what was needed, and Chadwick was the person perform the role; so brilliantly and heart felt, it could not have been recast. We needed to feel the pain. We all needed to grieve the loss, and it was to me one of the most brilliant marvel films ever made

Despite Namor and his people being the antagonists in this film, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride when I watched this in theaters, made me so proud of my roots! I loved FINALLY seeing Mexican/Indigenous actors on screen and on a movie as big as Black Panther it was amazing, loved the representation

i saw this opening day in the theaters.. the ending where it was just silent clips of chadwick had every person in there sobbing. it was so so sad & i left with an insane headache from crying so hard but it was also so beautiful. The entire room was just filled with admiration & love for him. It was a cool thing to experience

Being able to see this opening night in theaters was such a surreal experience. It was silent and all you could hear was sniffling and tears and i have watched almost every marvel movie in theaters and this one was by far a much different experience. This movie was the perfect way to say goodbye to Chadwick and still move the storyline along. This movie was perfection.
Shout out to Angela Bassett for winning the golden globe award for her performance here. I believe it's the first time an award was won for a comic character. She's in the running for an Oscar as well.

I saw this movie in theaters opening night. I cried throughout most of the movie. I cried at the beginning and end for Chadwick and cried in the middle over Queen Romonda. It’s heartbreaking to see Shuri lose her last family member. It is one of the most emotional movie theater experiences I’ve ever had. When everyone realized that they were killing off T’Challa the same way Chadwick exactly passed, from a deadly illness, there were audible gasps and sobs. It was completely silent except for sniffles and crying throughout the beginning. I love that marvel had all that at the beginning because it allowed us all to say goodbye to Chadwick and grieve together. We got to grieve a hero of ours while we watched the cast grieve for their brother and friend. The same goes for the ending tribute to him. Complete silence except for crying. It was extremely powerful.

I appreciate the themes in the movie, particularly the way it addresses how to cope with grief. This is especially relevant during a time when many of us have experienced the loss of loved ones.
My Mom and I just watched this movie this past weekend and we both LOVED it!!!! As a TOTAL history and mythology nerd who majored in History and minored in Anthropology and graduated last May... this was TOTALLY up my alley!!! It just kinda didn't feel like your typical Superhero movie... it felt like more of an action movie with a little romance in there!! I STILL loved it though!!!! I LOVED all the mythology in this one, and as someone who reads and watches a LOT of books and movies, tv shows, and documentaries about ANYTHING history or mythology related.... this was AMAZING!!!
I saw this in theaters with my niece and mother (my mom who claims to hate all superhero media, but loves the Black Panther movies in particular). Within about 10 seconds of the opening, when Shuri is desperately trying to find a cure for T'Challa, I was already broken and crying. This movie was so good, but also had me in tears multiple times (the second time was during Ramonda's funeral, when M'Baku tells Shuri "the world has taken too much from you to still call you a child", and she was so filled with hopelessness and rage... that killed me).
I love it. They took Mexican culture and created this badass character

I LOVE that they used different languages throughout this movie. It bugs me when movies or tv shows have people from other cultures or countries speaking English to those of the same country or ethnicity. There are 6 languages spoken in this movie.
I was skeptical of her being the new Black Panther but the director really fit in perfectly. The reveal will give anybody goosebumps. Good Job, Disney

I've watched the movie many times now. I was even in the theater on opening day, and returned few days later watching a second time in theater that week. I cried both times. This movie had a solid 5 from me, and the only movie in all the MCU besides Wakanda Forever w a 5 from me, was Endgame.
I thought I'd let you know... Listening to Namor talking about himself, when he was talking with Shuri... I think you guys missed the point of his name!!
"My enemies call me No More!" And he said that's how he came up with the name, and he pronounced it "Nah More" as if a half syllable short of No More. He says that about himself with confidence, cause in his eyes, no one is capable of killing him, therefore no one will survive him, and there for, no one will call him anymore! And that's how he gets Namor!!

The fact that this is Tenoch Huerta's (Namor) first major English speaking film....amazing.
I lost my dad unexpectedly in 2020, and my mom from cancer in 2021, at 23 years old. Seeing all this happen to poor Shuri back to back really hit so hard for me. The way she cries for her mom is so realistic. 39:07 gets me every time I hear it.
One important thing to keep in mind is that this movie faced a lot of challenges. Not only did they have to completely rewrite the script, it was also filmed during the pandemic and there were many regulations that had to be followed. For quite a few of the scenes, the actors weren’t even in the same room! The had to film the scenes separately but it was edited together incredibly well. I think that all of the challenges this movie faced make it that much better.
Love this movie! Had to hold back tears when I saw this in theaters until I came home lol. Hope you guys like this movie as well! 🙏🏽

Finally watching this because i just watched the film last week lol! I was an emotional wreck when chadwhick died and like anyone needs to grieve, i had to and wanted to wait till i had a time to watch it. R.i.p micheal, one of my childhood best friends from middle school who passed from cancer as well and loved chadwick as well. Thats why it was so hard for me. R.i.p chadwhick too!! Im glad they're now longer hurting together and at peace together. 😭❤️

Thanks as always for the reaction. An interesting note on Namor: In the 1960's there was a Marvel Superheroes cartoon show that would randomly focus a 1/2hr cartoon on a single superhero each show. I believe there were only 5 heroes: Captain America; the Hulk; Iron Man, Thor; and "Namor the Submariner". I guess Namor was a bigger name in the 60's MCU but fell into obscurity until Wakanda Forever. Anyway, love the channel guys.

I came out of this movie the first time thinking this was a top 3 MCU movie for me.
I came out of it the second time feeling the exact same way.
Back in the wild west days of comic books, they used to rip off each others' characters all the time. But in this case, Namor predates Aquaman by about 2 years.

Aside from the wonderful tribute to Chadwick Boseman, Wakanda Forever repeat almost beat for a beat of the first black Panther film. Both movies start with the passing of a king, introducing a new hidden culture and an antagonist who provide an alternative to protecting their people. Angela Bassett gave a powerful performance with Danai Gurira. Overall, this was a beautiful mess.

This time last year I was sending up prayers for the Lord to take me..but when I saw the teaser for the first time..11-11-2022 was the only thing I had left to look forward to last year. This movie was gorgeously sad to watch in theaters on opening night. Saw it two more times and I loved it each time. Still upset the Queen was offed, that part almost destroyed my entire theater. Namor suffers the same misconception as Deathstroke with Deadpool lol. Just because Aquaman had his cinematic debut before Namor, people think Namor is the knock off when it's the other way around.
