    Can you cook with just the halogen bulbs as the cooling element, i.e., with the microwave feature off? I do not like microwave, but would be interested in cooking quickly with the halogen convection oven only.

    I like how the top oven was demonstrated. Do you have information on the lower oven?

    • @elouisevanhelsing3430
      @elouisevanhelsing3430 4 года назад +3

      The lower is conventional plus convection and is pretty awesome as a standard oven. I know she shows cookies in the upper oven, but the standard lower oven on convection below works just as well for a few minutes longer and you can do more cookies at a time. It is really hard to burn them on convection!

    Does it have a regular rectangular rack too? Or you must cook on the round pan? I see little hooks on the sides of the oven so I'm wondering about that

    • @elouisevanhelsing3430
      @elouisevanhelsing3430 4 года назад

      I don't think there is a rectangular available, as you need the rotation. It comes with the metal and a glass round pan. There is also a round convection only pan that you can't use with the microwaves. The lower oven has conventional racks.

      It comes with a regular “oven type” shelf as well

    • @elengstrom
      @elengstrom 3 года назад

      Yes, it comes with a rectangular rack for use with the "regular oven functions" that include convection baking, broiling, toasting and proofing. You can see the specifics here: products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=17674

    • @FBSKitchen

      The light bulb is a little tricky to get to and you would have to call GE service. Thanks for the question!

    If you want a poor man’s version of this, the Panasonic flash xpress toaster oven uses infrared light technology too to cook fast as well. Not a microwave like this has, but uses the same halogen light. No preheating and instant on.

    How is 10 minutes for the cookies vs. 14 regular an 8x increase? And I can cook potatoes in my microwave in 7 minutes. These didn’t look any different.

    • @mobrienma
      @mobrienma 6 лет назад +3

      No preheating required. As for the potatoes, this cooks them better than a microwave. I've had an Advantium since 2004 and its the most utilized (and beloved) appliance in out kitchen.

    • @elengstrom
      @elengstrom 3 года назад +1

      The Advantium combines the microwave and other heating functions to get you a better tasting result. The speed might be the same or a minute or two longer depending on the wattage and circuit amp rating of your traditional microwave, but I always get a better result using the Advantium than the regular microwave alone. Also, I suggest people have a traditional microwave handy in their kitchen along with the 240V Advantium AND a really good toaster oven such as the Breville Smart Oven especially if you are not always cooking for crowds and have limited time from the time you stop working to get a really good dinner on the table that's healthy and tasty. I "multi-task" all 3 of these simultaneously when cooking for 2 to 4 people and, especially at the height of summer, when not using the outdoor grill, I don't heat up the house. Depending on what the primary entree is and how I need to put the Advantium to best strategic use, I might, in fact, use the regular microwave sensor potato cook function after placing the a couple of really good Idaho bakers in a glass dish, lightly coated with a good olive oil and packed in very corse kosher salt and then move those to the toaster oven at 325 degrees F on regular convection for the rest of the time while I'm preparing the other meal items, otherwise I can do them in the Advantium alone if the Advantium isn't being used for something else. Just scrape the corse salt off the potato before plating and you have one of the best baked potatoes you'll ever eat that doesn't need anything else added to it. Finally, having these 3 appliances to cook simultaneously in, or in sequence, allows me to prepare just the right amount of food for a meal for two to four people so I end up wasting a lot less food for a household, that unfortunately, has members who "don't do leftovers," unless I'm able to disguise previous leftover items as ingredients served "on the down low" so no one notices.

    It only takes 12 minutes in a conventional oven for those cookies, but I guess there is some energy saved.

    • @castruba
      @castruba 3 года назад +3

      Regular ovens take 12 minutes just to cook not counting preheating. This was 10 minutes and no need to preheat. Probably about 60% time savings.

    I am so sad I had to replace my 2004 Advantium for this bit of trash. Had two weeks, and the handle is already melted. The convection bakes the walls, so you have to use Easy off to clean it . It doesn't brown any more and the old one would cook a chicken breast in five minutes. Now SIXTEEN!!!! Buy Ninja or Emeril and save 1,200 dollars.

    I really don't think there are halogen lamps in the bottom of the microwave. It would be hard to replace the bulbs and the heat is direct from from the bulbs and the sealed base would not allow it. Please know what you are talking about.

    Ya mine was awesome, and lasted 8 years. so much for 4500 bucks that was rolled into the mortgage that we will pay for , for the rest of our stupid lives. could have bought another Saab 900 that would have lasted about the same but would have been a lot more fun. well, time to drag out the microwave with the fake wood paneling from the 80's that still works great. the wife will just have to cook with the normal oven.

    Best thing you can do with this super expensive oven is toss it in a
    landfill... it breaks, GE sends a tech to fix it, it breaks AGAIN in
    the exact same way, and they want to charge you another $200 for the
    same repair they failed to do the last time. It's sad they can't make
    an appliance that doesn't even last 2 years before falling apart. DO NOT
    BUY!

  • @sethballstaedt3719

    Don't waste your money on one of these. I've had one of these pain-in-the-butt overpriced microwaves for 6 years. Cost me $3,600. Believe me, your family will use it as a microwave. The menu is just too complicated. Want to heat up corn dogs in the toaster oven? First, you have to know that there's no option to say "heat toaster oven for 3 minutes" like there is on a microwave. You have to navigate the menu and find corn dogs. And in the process you will learn that corn dogs are actually sandwiches, because it is under the sandwich menu. Want to heat up cold pizza from last night? This thing will assume your cooking a raw pizza. The food menu is just so horrible. It just needs a simple button "toast" for X time.

      On our third one in another home we recently purchased and remodeled. Would never live without the 240 30 inch unit. I can always get a good healthy very edible meal on the table in under 30 minutes after my 12 hour work days. What everyone needs to understand is that you have to learn how to use the speed cook functions to get the results you want and to take the time to learn and practice. Once you've mastered the multiple speed cooking techniques, you won't need the pre-set food type functions and you'll know what settings to use the upper, lower, microwave and convection heating settings. Note too that the biggest difference between the 120V and 240V models is that 240V model can use the multiple heating methods simultaneously. The 120V model cycles most of the heating functions instead. This means faster more precise results if you always using the correct tray and cooking vessel.
