Welcome to the Martial Arts Journey RUclips channel!
My name is Rokas. I'm a Lithuanian guy who trained Aikido for 14 years, 7 of them running a professional Aikido Dojo until eventually I realized that Aikido does not live up to what it promises.
Lead by this realization I decided to make a daring step to close my Aikido Dojo and move to Portland, Oregon for six months to start training MMA at the famous Straight Blast Gym Headquarters under head coach Matt Thornton.
After six months intensive training I had my first amateur MMA fight after which I moved back to Lithuania. During all of this time I am documenting my experience through my RUclips channel called "Martial Arts Journey".
Now I am slowly setting up plans to continue training MMA under quality guidance and getting ready for my next MMA fight as I further document and share my journey and discoveries.

If you guys thought this was crazy, you haven’t seen ANYTHING yet
And here I thought it had peaked at groin shots in a bus. 🚌💥🌰🌰
The hype!!!!!!
sick head kick btw, Rokas was not expecting that😂😂
That kick from the seat!!! 👍👍
3rd Thompson
What a perfectly reasonable way to spend an afternoon.
The USDC is just Ninja Warrior for martial artists
Of course. Should be armed with hot coffee or a rolled up porn mag though.
Damn that looked painful! How is your knee and your back after that?! You might want to take an Icy bath
I'm jealous I couldn't give this a go (and lose the hardest).
Hahahahahahahaha
Dude the amount of money you must have sacrificed to get this all out together... gotta say... WORTH IT. Best content you've ever made!
It is Hella fun to watch.
By far wow just wow im so happy
The crowd funders have helped quite a bit, but I still came back from Australia with an empty bank account 😂 I think it was worth it though
@@MartialArtsJourney Hopefully you can monetize this stuff enough to make some kind of profits off of it. This series is fantastic
@@MartialArtsJourney All the way to Australia of all places!? Damn, no wonder you broke😆
UFC can take a side seat, this is the kind of competition I would pay to see televised. Plus, what a killer lineup of great dudes. Thanks for putting this on.
This is way more entertaining to me than mma by far!
Respect for Coach Ramsey and Icy Mike. They are in their 40s, yet competing with people much younger than them in their 20s and 30s
especially mike. He's the smallest and one of the eldest
The take away is that big guys have an advantage against small guys yet there is an X factor called scrapiness. The seat giveth, the seat taketh away.
@@yacined4882 I think he did well against Jeff taking into account the advantages that Jeff had over him.
Best bald bros
Small people age better. Physics is hard on big bodies.
Sorry I couldn’t make it guys! I was busy practicing my victory dance. 🕺 But since I didn't win anything, I'll just have to save it for another day. 🤷♂️ Congrats to the winner, and I’ll see y’all on the dance floor! 🎶
Kevin Lee, Jesse Enkamp, Oliver Enkamp for Season 2 please!
That's sad, i was preparing to cheer for you and be on your hypeteam lol.
That was a Smart funny comment ! Hope to Sée you in season2
@@rocelderamos3013 I support this
One day jesse one day
Jeff as a pro MMA fighter seems to have such a solid base that even when he gets outmanoeuvred slightly he can stabilise. His fitness/strength/physicality is just a level above the others
and knees. He's got sharp knees all day, better than the others. What a difference-maker.
Holy shit this is easily the best thing I have watched on youtube. Screw netflix, this is entertaining as hell. The production quality is insane, feels like im watching a movie. Drone shots above the bus and the fire soundtrack
That's so cool to hear! Thanks!
Legitimately? This looks like one of the best martial arts series concepts I’ve seen in a while. Shout out to literally everyone involved this feels like an avengers level video 😂🎉👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
For sure they could sell this series to a Channel like Discovery or to a streaming service like netflix if they wanted to
Jesus, this is TV level production value. Congratz on putting all of this together, the series looks amazing.
Thanks!
jesus.
guys please dont forget to like these videos. the production is wild, we NEED more stuff like this.
This is genius. Probally the most entertained I've been all week
That sumo experience is definitely paying off for sensei Seth. He was very good at destabilizing everyone.
Word
super fun experience!!!
It's crazy how much the bus environment affected the ground game. Once someone got dominant position on top, the person on bottom couldn't really move or counter because of the compact quarters, and could only try to defend. It's definitely worth taking into consideration. Good video, y'all.
Also crazy how the turns and sudden stops switched up the outcomes.
This is probably where standing joint lock and standing choke will work.
This is without a doubt the premiere martial arts/self defense content of the year, if not the decade. I hope some version of this continues for years to come.
I TOTALLY agree. This is what we have been missing!
This series is actually so fun to watch and entertaining. It deserves way more views.
Hopefully it will get them 😊 Fingers crossed
Haha, and 3 hours long video!
This is c tier at best
I can see that Sensei Seth's sumo training is allowing him to get the other participants shoved into a corner for some good positions. Jeff's "seats and pound" strat worked extremely well also.
Damn you guy really invested a lot into this to make it happen. This is self-defense-based fighting but it'd still be one of the best fighting championships ever. Such an incredible concept to actually test real life self-defense situations! I hope this whole new fight game will get you guys to new heights. Kudos!
No kidding! If I had a nickel for every time a random gang of unarmed attackers wearing football pads attacked everyone on the public transit conveyance I was riding on, I'd never want for anything again. It's important to train for these hyper-realistic situations.
@@MrMagnaniman LOL Dude I hope your comment is not being sarcastic, but yeah, the whole thing presented in this video is like a simulation of a random situation in reality because we basically don't know what will happen in real life. Assaults, in this case, on buses do happen and they may not go similarly like this video depicted, but at least opening up to another possibility on what to expect can help us raise situational awareness, from which we can learn to technically visualize our own possible responses for such scenarios then take action if necessary, to reduce the risks of worse-off outcomes due to not having the slightest idea of what might happen. So, it is indeed important to train both our mind and body for this kinda shit.
Really? Theyre literally pulling there shots. Putting like 10% into punches and kicks etc.
@@mikimiyazaki Bro, I get you, but that's why it's "simulation" at best, cuz if something "real" happens, it just happens once, and the rest is just "die or survive", there'd be no "training", dude. 😂
So excited for future episodes and even future seasons. It's really interesting to see how fighting differs in cramped situations. It looks like size plays a much larger role when you can't cut angles and move around. Huge props to Icey mike for using inverted knee strikes.
Dude this is freaking crazy. That first fight between Jeff Chan and Icy Mike was epic with the momentum reversal to escape Jeff's top pressure. I can't believe something so high quality is on youtube. You're a legend. Best thing on youtube in years. Mad respect to Icy Mike and Ramsey Dewey for tangling with these younger and bigger fighters.
Another few minutes and I reckon Mike turns that one too, you could see him start to build at the end!
That up kick was solid. Best shot I saw land in the whole video.
Ramsey is huge man, this was not a 5 round fight in order to care about age and stamina. Bigger = better in such a confined space.
@@copa593 ramsey has just the mouth too open... so now im happy
This is the most needed Combat Tournament we've ever seen. To see several of my fav RUclipsrs do this was both a pleasure and still a lesson. Thanks so much for this Rokas. This should be something every so called Self defense instructor participates in! You all Set the Standard with production and challenges very High!
Thank you 🙏
I hope this becomes an official fighting league someday.
Full contact using full body protective equipment, "why didn't someone think of that before?" No rules, no fouls just full blown all out anything goes fighting. Talk about pressure testing. What's great is they are keeping records so those who fixate on whether a martial artist is actually a fighter based on a win-lose record can be satisfied. I'm sure others, I know I have previously daydreamed about someone doing something like this. Great concept looking forward to continuing episodes. Thanks guys.
This was amazing. I hope it becomes a long running series.
6 more episodes are still coming up! And if season 1 does well we are thinking about doing a season 2, so you can share episodes of season 1 with all people interested since essentially that's what season 2 depends on 😊
@@MartialArtsJourneyCongratulations and good job.
Already shared, and training for season 2, 😂.
"All my training has prepared me for this moment. DIE! DIIIE!"
@@MartialArtsJourney I've sent them to everyone. Hope this season will do well. Any martial art fan watching this will love it I'm pretty sure. Keep up the good work Rokas! 🥋

@@MartialArtsJourney Make it a yearly thing if it possible
Mike posting his foot on the roof to throw knees is insane lmao I'm only halfway through and this is legitimately way better than I expected.
That had me rolling 🤣🤣🤣
zero g muay thai
@@feidtublec ohh shit next episode is gonna be them sparring in one of those zero g planes lmao
@@shaeisgae8952 you never know when you might find yourself on a zero g plane and some douchebag scuffs your shoes.
Mike was horrible. Those knees were weak and he got dominated every time.
Kudos to everyone involved. This is so amazing to watch!
Truly a test of effectiveness for different martial arts.
You brought us something we have all wanted for years
The jeff vs mike spar on the bus is a good example why a skilled fighter even if its just a "sport" will outperform almost everyone in a sudden brawl kind of scenario.
Its the thing mike is trying to point out in one of his videos.
To add to this comment, seth proves just how much size matters specially in a self defense scenario
Being younger than everyone and in his prime also helps you know
@@yacined4882 it doesnt in the context that the old dudes here is always training to maintain their physical state, and the fight only last about a minute long, id argue (ofc things might be different for you) that stamina is the defining factor that differentiates the old guys to the new guys and not really stregnth.
Atleast here in my area youd be surprised by how strong people here are who are in their 50's and 60's. A personal story from me but i fought my drunk uncle once and my dumbass think that taking him to the ground is a good idea (both of us has no experience in grappling so we can only resort to our stregnth) and to say the least i nearly didnt win if we didnt get back up to our feet, and that guy was at his 45-50's.
@@heraldofoblivion727 stamina isn't the only disadvantage. Your ability to get rocked gets worse with age as well. Also, a man's testosterone decreases at a rapid pace 35+. Meaning explosivity also takes a hit.
@@heraldofoblivion727 Power is the last thing to go and any man up to his 60s that isn't in garbage shape can give you a rough 50 seconds.
@@Bucephalus84 im not saying that it is the only disadvantage, im just saying its a defining one, a factor that really stands out, and obv i aint disagreeing with you that being old is disadvantageful, im just saying that in the context of this scenario or spar, considering the old dudes who participating here, the rule set of the scenario and so on, being old didnt gave them much of a disadvantage.
Sensei Seth with the crazy round kick for when the bus takes off that was definitely the highlight very creative lol 😂😆
Not the nut hammerfists?!
@@SenseiSeth that to but you did extremely well Sensei
Seth delivered a number of highlight reel worthy material 😎
I enjoyed that kick too totally didn't see that coming haha
@@maexpert11 I certainly didn't see it coming either totally unexpected
Holy cow! this is extremely high quality! I feel like this is a normal show on television. I'm not quite sure that was a lot of self-defense in this event, but it was very entertaining to watch 😄
Various self defense challenges are still coming up 😎
@@MartialArtsJourney Awesome! I'm excited!
Finally! We all have been waiting for something like that. A bunch of well known RUclips fighters in a competition. Thank you so much for that. And we really needed a former aikido guy to give us that? 😂 You are really awesome and has gone such a long way with your journey of fighting.
Thanks!
It easy to tell that a lot of effort has been put into making this series. I hope it does really well and can become an regular or at least an annual event.
Thanks! Me too
That rear naked choke was perfectly done Rokas. I thought you were going to win after that first round!
Thanks! 😊🙏
I seriously don’t know why this doesn’t have millions of views, the creativity, the production value, everything about this just deserves more. This is real, true top tier content. It’s like fear factor when it first came out and survivor when it first came on TV. This is legendary, this is special.
This needs to be an Olympic game. This would be the greatest sport in the world. The scenarios for this are endless. There is something special to this!
A major network needs to pick this up from you, Rokas. This is unlike anything ever put out in the martial arts community.
Man this is so epic. I wish the episode was longer. Its so satisfying to watch this!! You packed it with action, that could be more spread throughout the video, with some longer breaks between fighting scenes, like you guys talking more, your interactions at the place you stay at etc. Lmao I'm not complaining, its better than any show related to martial arts I have ever seen. I am just sad it ended so quickly haha. Love the content man this is what I have been waiting for. This is great!!
I'm glad to tell you that your wish will be fulfilled starting from Episode 2! It will be longer, with even more action, but also down moments, interactions and reflections! Stay tuned for April 9 😁
@@MartialArtsJourney Can't wait! :)
@@MartialArtsJourney 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Definitely agree that the episodes should be longer ❤
Agreed 100%. Edit out less of the action but also show more discussion, commentary and reflection. This ended too fast!
1:16 "I can just throw all kicks" and then Seth begins his fight with high kick 🤣🤣
4:52 Jeff trapped against the window LARPing as a bystander killed me 😂
Of COURSE Sensei Seth head kicks a guy from a seated position on a moving bus. That's the most Sensei Seth thing I can think of. Great video Rokas! Look forward to the rest.
Best things ever!!! Thanks so much Rokas for organizing this master piece and getting an all-star cast together
🙏
Everyone involved in this is saving lives in the future. Hats off to all of you. Space is always something that is taken as a given and it shouldn’t be. It’s rare that there is enough space to use BJJ and kickboxing. I wish there was a wing chun guy in this cause I think it would be shocking how relevant it can be.
If they do a next season, you might get your wish if they can get Master Wong to participate. Hoping he and Jesse Enkamp can make it on.
@@gmork1090 maybe. But I think the prospect of them squaring up against MMA/boxers would frighten a lot of those traditional guys and make them not sign up. I think an MMA guy would know how to use Wing Chun though once they see a shot and evasive footwork/angles become irrelevant when there are walls and chairs everywhere.
Karate katas I think will be more relevant with multiple attackers too. Everyone makes fun of katas but that stuff is useful when it comes to hiding your back from multiple opponents.
Kevin Lee would be perfect since he already knows half the guys and teaches a form of wing chun that some of this years participants (Seth and Jeff) vouch for
this is insane cant wait to watch the other episodes
What I didn't expect was someone going "full E. Honda" 😂
Haha. More things will surprise you, trust me 😁
Well done guys for putting yourselves out there and doing it. You are ALL WINNERS. Most people have too much of an ego to put themselves through something like this. Massive respect to you all. Great video Rokas.
Thanks! That's a good point 👊
Agreed 👍💯
This really looks like something that all men should do to let out our frustration and to push ourselves.
This is really good! Hopefully you could take this idea to some broadcasters and make a bigger season 2.
A new kind of MMA is born :D When not just the styles, the enviroment itself is mixed: D.
And other cool and unpredictable conditions in next episodes!
First off major kudos to everyone involved organizing this thing. Seeing all my favorite RUclips martial artists in one setting, fighting, training, and laughing together is like watching the Avengers get together for the first time! Second of all, this is an amazing concept and should either be it's own reality show or standard training in self-defense and martial arts just to highlight that you have to be prepared for any situation because fights can and do happen anywhere and everywhere. I'm not even looking for a winner, I just want to see how everyone adapts what they know to the situation at hand. Although Rokas pulling off that rear-neck choke hold in his first match was a real stand out moment.
Eagerly looking forward to the next episode!
This… this needs to be a full-fledged show with episodes. I would and am going to watch this a *TON.*
Beautiful. You've come a long way, Rokas! Great stuff...glad to see the journey continues...
One important factor here is the size difference, as in self defense there are no weight classes. I think this helped Sensei Seth and Rokas, nonetheless both showed great skills. I also think momentum plays a bigger part in an environment like this, so getting off to the right start and a bit of luck.... or being the attacker rather than the one doing self defense, if we're thinking about an assault situation, is also an advantage. Wish I could have participated. :p Excited for the next episode and glad Rokas put this together.
It seems that the less space there is the less options there are and the more positional domination and strength matters. A good lesson for martial artists to learn!
@@JudoP_slinging Like Icy Mike said on his channel. This comes down to straight up greco wrestling skill which takes alot of strength to pull off.
I agree. In confined spaces the size advantage is magnified.
@@phillipadams4691 Absolutely, I've been trying to set up some sparring in an elevator and record for a video on my channel to test that likely hypothesis and other things... but I haven't had the opportunity. Hopefully that will be tested in this series, either way, I'm excited for all the episodes.
@@ZenDragonRUclipsChannel Well, as a smaller guy, my primary advantages are speed and mobility. I am very interested in experimenting with ways to solve the problem of a larger opponent in close quarters. I would be willing to bet on element of surprise, deception and sheer aggression.
Hoping for the first season to be a massive success, and hoping for the number of contestants to triple for the next season.
This is awesome Rokas! I'm so happy you actually pulled it off!
This is amazing, can’t wait for more!
“With a couple inches of mobility he starts hitting me right in the groin. “ lmao I love them both but Icy Mike is just another level 😂 You were last this time but you’re first place to me
Incredible. We are only one episode into this series and I already can't wait for season 2 and onwards. Thank you all for doing this!
Really proud of you Rokas you pulled it off!!!
Thanks!
I love how the two "real" fighters (Ramsay Dewy and Jeff Chan) both paused and thought for a second before engaging
Who do you think is going to win after watching episode 1?
I beat you to the punch. I did this 25 years ago as a freshman in highschool. I won. The bus driver pulled me off him and he was turning purple. But still conscious. I punched him a bunch and then choked him. He was the school bully. And I finally grew big enough to whup him. He was bullying a girl in the back... I told him he was a dick and not a good person. He came over and pushed me in the side of the head. And whipping began.
I also beat him at foosball during lunch in the cafeteria.
And I had bow staff skills. Still have bowstaff skills.
Seth is 28 ????? I alway assumed he was in his mid 30.....
Team Jeff Chan for the win💪🔥🔥
Team Sensei Seth!
It's going to be a close one. If you do this again, I hope I can be part of it.
Rokas thought of this and planned it ? Rokas is a genius, that 's the freshest thing we've seen since UFC, could be a game changer.
Thank you 🙏 Big kudos goes to Jeff Phillips, the co-organizer as well! He's the mastermind behind the challenges
A little better than slapfight, that's for sure.
DUDE I’VE JUST DISCOVERED THIS TWO MONTHS AFTER ITS RELEASE AND I CANT TELL YOU HOW EXITED I AM TO WATCH THESE!
Imagine driving by and randomly seeing a pro MMA fighter and another trained guy beat each other on a bus.
Quite a sight!
This is extremely ambitious and very cool. Props to all the guys for putting themselves out there to do this, and to Rokas for putting these together. Excited to see the rest.
Great video! I think this exercise shows a few things about self defense:
1. You absolutely must be able to grapple
2. Grappling is very different in enclosed spaces and on uneven surfaces
3. Icy Mike's comment at the end about it being exhausting: fitness is the backbone of self defense.
great video dude, this is 100% gonna be one of those series you come back and binge every now and then.
Awesome!
Amazing project !! so proud to be a contributor!
Awesome! Thank you
I mean I can't believe this is real, it's just too good to be true, I hope it goes viral so we could have a season 2!!!
Rokas you are amazing... For setting this up. And kudos to all participants 👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you 😊
Got to give credit where it is due, that was a really clever, awesome *and realistic* scenario training.
Dude I've been waiting for all of you to get this together! Glad it happened!
What I liked most was everyone's sportsmanship.
This was suprisingly really entertaining. A few tips for the 2nd season. In the first episode, you need more character storyline so that we know who the fighters are, their goals,... this makes us root for someone. Also this needed a way better marketing strategy because I had no idea this existed.
Still a great show tho, hope it succeeds
Yep good point
Their weight height reach , fighting style and experience years , some mini journey story so that people can connect with them
Good point. I already know most of these guys, so I was already filling in the blanks you mentioned on my own. But a reel of each fighter would help newcomers connect and root for a fighter.
Those are 2 really good points. Backstory and, something that is probably much harder to accomplish than it even seems to, work on the Marketing aspect of the series to give it better visibility and reach. Though that's something that is difficult to do when the YT Algorithm has so much power over these aspects.
Given the international nature of the series, Marketing becomes an even bigger issue to deal with, with much bigger potential rewards, as all the efforts to promote it on different levels (town, region, State/Country, Continent & International, etc.) are going to be more dispersed, less concentrated in one area so there's that issue with the more local promotion. It all depends on the means/resources available to spend on Marketing, and there needs to be a minimum of effort deployed in each area you wish to increase your visibility to reach a critical point so that it's effective.
A smaller scale production means that in this case, International Marketing makes things harder if they choose to try to reach that large.
The best thing we can all do is talk about this to our friends, post Links on Social Media to raise Awareness in our larger circles of Contacts, try to get others to talk about it and finally, to use the additional Communication Platforms that are available to us if applicable (ie: Radio Station, Local TV, Community Center, etc., ... even Church for those who frequent these).
I have no idea what kinds of means and strategies have been used by Rokas & co. to promote the Seroes, so I can't comment at all on what they did, but the fact that I only heard about it very recently, just a few days before it was released, means that there are probably additional things that could be done in the future to help.
Of course, I'm probably not the typical target audience as I don't have people in my social circle who practice Martial Arts or have an interest in them, contrary to most viewers I presume.
I still wish the very best for this Series and all the great people who have been involved in it!
This is amazing. Looking forward to the next episode. Especially the weapon defense episode
Man Rokas is a Legend, I started watching back when he was still doing mostly Aikido, before he even started MMA.
As someone who's done MMA since I was 6 years old, i'm so proud of how far Rokas has come, in such a short amount of time.
Man, congrats on doing so well against all these martial artists, especially against Jeff Chan! To get such high praise from an active professional MMA fighter is an amazing show of just how far you have come in your martial arts journey! I hope you are very proud of yourself because you absolutely should be, even with the unfamiliarity of fighting in a bus.
Chubby surprise even works in a cramped bus, lol. That sumo training helped too. Go Seth!
I'm so hyped for the rest of this, what a great idea!
Dude, you need to license this. this is amazing.
I can’t believe we get to watch this for free on youtube, you’re awesome Rokas!
I'm getting major Fight Quest vibes from this. A must watch series!
Man this was actually wild ahahahah. Props to Rokas for setting this up and yeah, I'm looking forward to episode two hahah. Much love and respect from an Eskrimador in the UK.
Thanks!
This is ridiculous, outlandish, and just plain wacky.
I fully approve.
As I was watching I said "damn, being at the bottom, or by the window sucks in this situation", but the way Rokas used his bottom position to keep them away was amazing, and knowing how to pull guard was a great tool.
Holy balls, this was filmed in Western Sydney??
Looking forward to the rest of series! Great work, gents!
This is the best thing ever. Brilliant idea, fantastic execution, and the casting is great too!
