  • This IKEA hack will knock. your. socks. off. See how to build your own drawers to turn a basic IKEA Kallax shelf into a stunning card catalog style, flat file cabinet with shallow drawers for art supplies and a deeper drawer for storing larger materials, too. The stain on the drawer fronts gives it a modern farmhouse vibe and I'm in LOVE!

    Thanks for sharing, would you mind adding how you installed the drawer rails (ie. spacing all 5 drawers) and which type of drawer rails are they please ( they Ikea ones?) Sorry, complete novice in carpentry. Thanks, brilliant work!!

    • @kathybalch
      @kathybalch 3 года назад

      I would like to know the same thing. I was thinking it would be easier to install the rails to both sides of the cabinet before putting it together, but again, total woodworking novice.

      This is a fabulous cabinet! Tyfs!!! I’m going to use it to keep my paper rafting dies in.

    great looking storage cablnet. I need a ver WIDE flat file for my art work (needs to accomodate 18x24" matted prints and smaller) BADLY but everything otu there s way too expensive.

    I am trying to find an Ikea hack for a flat file with drawers that will store large sheets of paper, like 22x30 inches. Anything that big at Ikea?

    • @Remodelaholic
      @Remodelaholic  4 года назад +1

      Not that I can think of, but you could maybe attach two of these back to back to create a bigger drawer... I just can promise it would look good with the seam.

    • @Remodelaholic
      @Remodelaholic  4 года назад +1

      Well, actually maybe a kitchen base cabinet at ikea would work? Just not sure of the exact interior dimensions of the drawers. You could do 6 skinny drawers, you would just need to make a top and possibly some feet?

  • @grainypix
    @grainypix 5 лет назад +2

    I love your idea with this hack, I really need flat files for my loads of art work and this looks like an easy and affordable idea, thank you!!

    • @Remodelaholic
      @Remodelaholic  5 лет назад +1

      Yay!! I hope it works for your needs... my only caveat is you might need a larger drawer, the drawer depth is a little limited, so just make sure you keep that in mind! Good luck!!

  • @nacho220

    This is awesome! I use Kallax units for my vinyl collection. This would be perfect for what I am looking for to house my poster collection. However, I’d need the drawers to be something like a minimum of 36 x 28. What Ikea product could be used as the frame for that? The Kallax aren’t that deep I know.
    Thanks for any help. I am completely ignorant when it comes to stuff like this and I’d have to find someone to do it for me anyways, ugh.

    • @Remodelaholic
      @Remodelaholic  5 лет назад +1

      I can think of in ikea product that is that deep.. but you could put together 2 of the Ikea Kallax units. And it might be about 30” deep, and figure out how to attach them together. I’m just not sure about the width. You might have to use the longer units...

      I know I am a year late, but try out the Cliffmay Slat Storage Cabinet at Target. Not sure if it still will be large enough for you, but I just love it. Hope this helps xx

    • @nacho220
      @nacho220 3 года назад

      @@illbeyourstumbleine thanks for the suggestion. I took a look at it and I’m not sure it will do the trick. A little too small and it looks like just a traditional cabinet as opposed to something like a flat file.
