Me too! I just discovered Lisa’s channel. Trying to catch up and can’t get enough of her great design ideas and tips. Just did a home office for my husband and I via IKEA. Never would have considered IKEA without Lisa’s advice! We love it and are so happy. Super inexpensive, which leaves funds for finishing touches!
Love Ikea hacks! One thing about their desks, though--they aren't all finished in the back, so if (like me) you can't stand having your back to the room, check to see that the desk you pick is finished all around!
We bought an extra piece of masonite and got shirwin williams to match the paint color on our assemble it yourself desk so we had a panel to go on the back. It was a cheap solution and it works well.

Having shelf/storage units with wheels, as you suggested, is fantastic. I did this in my home art studio/office, because I am limited on space, and it is the best thing ever. It gives me so much flexibility for working on different projects.
The best way I’ve found to ensure privacy in my WFH space is to stop what I’m doing and stare at my partner until he feels self conscious, finishes making his sandwich, and leaves. Haha! I love my Helmers, my top 3 drawers are office supplies, the bottom 3 are nail polish and supplies. Oh, you had me at the Sonos lamp! I foresee those in my future!

I’ve saw a lot of youtubers bash Kallax, but people tend to forget that sometimes it’s about being functional and practical. It’s a basic divider, but that doesn’t make it horrible or tacky haha

Perfect timing. My office doubles as a guest room with a day bed. I've been musing over what changes to make. The Stradman(?) chair and ottoman are on the list. I have a desk very much like the Skarsta. It's an old chemistry lab table.

We have a work space in one of our family areas and we used an L desk allow us to see our infant while keeping her out of our work space. It also solved some architectural weirdness as it tucks in nicely with the chimney column in the middle of an open attic space. In an old house you got to tuck those 21 century electronics away where they make sense.

I started with the Skarsta sit/stand desk. It served me well for a few years. I recently upgraded to a Karlby with walnut veneer. I got the Idasen sit/stand legs to place it on. The Skarsta name is now discontinued. However they now have a sit/stand desk called Trotten which appears to be the exact same design as the Skarsta.
Loved the disclaimer. 😂 Who knows if any if us are pronouncing the names correctly! Loved the choices. Ikea can be intimidating with sooo much merchandise and you break it down so well! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Finding an IKEA with items in stock helps as well. IKEA , like every other furniture store, is running very low on their stock. They’ve even stopped letting you order it, they’re so far behind. Btw, I got that houndstooth chair you recommended - love it!

Oooh, thank you for this video! You have unknowingly shown me something I intend to use in a different capacity. Here's an idea for you: that Skarsta adjustable height desk can be used over a queen sized bed. I have been looking for a flat surface that whose height was adjustable that would fit across my queen bed. If the Skarsta can be put on wheels, I'm in business! I bet IKEA even has a shelf that can be attached to the underside of the desk to store electronics, wires and stuff. When not in use, it can be at the bottom of the bed (but not for sitting) and you can pile blankets and pillows on.
Something to also consider is also minimising reflective light onto the computer screen, especially if you have skylights as I’ve discovered. Can be a challenge if you have limited options about where to put a desk.

I’m watching this video on Sunday after 🙄 placing an online order yesterday for my IKEA office. I think I did a good job with the pieces I ordered. We will find out in a month when everything is delivered. I bought enough Billy bookcases to fill am 11’ length wall, plus 2 desk tops, legs & Alex drawers to hack a desk. I added a few desk drawer organizers. I will add other elements once I see what all this looks like. I also may buy the extender shelving for the tops of the the bookcases so the look built in. I got a lot of items for my $750 investment. I can’t wait to see what everything looks like once it’s put together. Love your ideas.

I like that Helmet drawer unit on wheels, anything in wheels is great, so easy to move around. Also like the hack with the drawers on the gold base, gorgeous! Great suggestions. I'd love to hear your thoughts on area rugs or carpets for the home office especially if you have swivel chairs but don't prefer the usual floor saver options out there in the market. Thanks!

I made a tv riser using four of the CAPITA Legs and a commercial shelf that was a bit thicker and denser/heavier than a retail product for my 55" TV which doubles as a monitor for working in the living room.
A really good option for task lighting is an over the monitor light such as the Quntis Computer Monitor Lamp, Screen Lamp Monitor Light Bar with Auto-Dimming &Hue Adjustment on Amazon. It takes up no space on your desk and can be part of your travel kit for your laptop. There are other manufacturers as well for this product. I have the BaseUs version. It's great if you have an external monitor as well. Mounting the monitor to the wall on an extending fully articulating mount is a great idea as well to keep the desk surface clear. Or you can use a Poppin monitor riser. You can even mount it on the SKADIS Pegboard top if you want. Done that as well for my charging station by setting it in a small SKADIS accessory tray mounted on the top edge.

@@LisaHoltDesign No, I'm Serbian but I used to learn German as my second foreign language in primary school and I spoke to a relative who moved to Sweden about similarities and differences in grammar and reading of the two.
The top wood surface you show is an IKEA Karlby countertop. I got one of those and again used the Capita legs to raise it up off each of the three sets of Alex drawers. It gives me a place to slide things that I don't want on the desk surface. such as a USB HUB. Or an organizer tray.
The skadis pegboard system also has clamps so you can mount them on a desk instead of a wall. I have slanted ceilings so I have no usable wall space. A bonus, you can use both sides of the board.
This is the first video I see from this channel, but I'll definitely be binging more now! Very fun and informative. 🤙 I love Ikea, but my only gripe is that, currently, they're constantly running out of stock (at least my local Ikea is). Makes sense, since more paople are working from home, but it's still a problem. I've been looking for the super-popular Alex drawers, but it took months for them to get in stock. When they did go back in stock, they ran out of stock before the end of the day. They never stay in stock a full day. It's nuts. Anywho, I'm sure I'll get more ideas from your videos. :D
I am loving your videos for so many great suggestions ..helpful but easy to access one item at a time. I get overwhelmed when seeing everything all at once when in the store..so this is really great in helping me organize!

Yes, plus, put small legs (or feet, I guess), or a plinth under Kallax and suddenly it looks a billion times better.

If you have the space, using the butcher block counter tops from Home Depot or Lowes in combination with Ike really gives you a solid desk
IKEA’s own butcher block (which is not true butcher block-not solid, but a very thick veneer) is also very good.
*SO TRUE ABUOT THE CAT! 😀 my cat used to love spending time on my desk 😀😀🤗👍🏻*

We have a work space in one of our family areas and we used an L desk allow us to see our infant while keeping her out of our work space. It also solved some architectural weirdness as it tucks in nicely with the chimney column in the middle of an open attic space. In an old house you got to tuck those 21 century electronics away where they make sense.

I started with the Skarsta sit/stand desk. It served me well for a few years. I recently upgraded to a Karlby with walnut veneer. I got the Idasen sit/stand legs to place it on.
The Skarsta name is now discontinued. However they now have a sit/stand desk called Trotten which appears to be the exact same design as the Skarsta.
My husband and I dowsized to a full size bed in our bedroom and it makes a world of difference!
Loved the disclaimer. 😂 Who knows if any if us are pronouncing the names correctly! Loved the choices. Ikea can be intimidating with sooo much merchandise and you break it down so well! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Finding an IKEA with items in stock helps as well. IKEA , like every other furniture store, is running very low on their stock. They’ve even stopped letting you order it, they’re so far behind. Btw, I got that houndstooth chair you recommended - love it!

Oooh, thank you for this video! You have unknowingly shown me something I intend to use in a different capacity. Here's an idea for you: that Skarsta adjustable height desk can be used over a queen sized bed. I have been looking for a flat surface that whose height was adjustable that would fit across my queen bed. If the Skarsta can be put on wheels, I'm in business! I bet IKEA even has a shelf that can be attached to the underside of the desk to store electronics, wires and stuff. When not in use, it can be at the bottom of the bed (but not for sitting) and you can pile blankets and pillows on.

Something to also consider is also minimising reflective light onto the computer screen, especially if you have skylights as I’ve discovered. Can be a challenge if you have limited options about where to put a desk.

I’m watching this video on Sunday after 🙄 placing an online order yesterday for my IKEA office. I think I did a good job with the pieces I ordered. We will find out in a month when everything is delivered. I bought enough Billy bookcases to fill am 11’ length wall, plus 2 desk tops, legs & Alex drawers to hack a desk. I added a few desk drawer organizers. I will add other elements once I see what all this looks like. I also may buy the extender shelving for the tops of the the bookcases so the look built in. I got a lot of items for my $750 investment. I can’t wait to see what everything looks like once it’s put together. Love your ideas.

I like that Helmet drawer unit on wheels, anything in wheels is great, so easy to move around. Also like the hack with the drawers on the gold base, gorgeous! Yes, keep them low and flat as possible, but with backing, so they don't stretch. I have one in my office 😃

I made a tv riser using four of the CAPITA Legs and a commercial shelf that was a bit thicker and denser/heavier than a retail product for my 55" TV which doubles as a monitor for working in the living room.
A really good option for task lighting is an over the monitor light such as the Quntis Computer Monitor Lamp, Screen Lamp Monitor Light Bar with Auto-Dimming &Hue Adjustment on Amazon. It takes up no space on your desk and can be part of your travel kit for your laptop. There are other manufacturers as well for this product. I have the BaseUs version. It's great if you have an external monitor as well. Mounting the monitor to the wall on an extending fully articulating mount is a great idea as well to keep the desk surface clear. Or you can use a Poppin monitor riser. You can even mount it on the SKADIS Pegboard top if you want. Done that as well for my charging station by setting it in a small SKADIS accessory tray mounted on the top edge.

@@LisaHoltDesign No, I'm Serbian but I used to learn German as my second foreign language in primary school and I spoke to a relative who moved to Sweden about similarities and differences in grammar and reading of the two.
The top wood surface you show is an IKEA Karlby countertop. I got one of those and again used the Capita legs to raise it up off each of the three sets of Alex drawers. It gives me a place to slide things that I don't want on the desk surface. such as a USB HUB. Or an organizer tray.

The skadis pegboard system also has clamps so you can mount them on a desk instead of a wall. I have slanted ceilings so I have no usable wall space. A bonus, you can use both sides of the board.

I love Ikea, but my only gripe is that, currently, they're constantly running out of stock (at least my local Ikea is). Makes sense, since more paople are working from home, but it's still a problem. I've been looking for the super-popular Alex drawers, but it took months for them to get in stock. When they did go back in stock, they ran out of stock before the end of the day. They never stay in stock a full day. It's nuts.
Anywho, I'm sure I'll get more ideas from your videos. :D
