    Two things that helped eliminate or deter shb is soft peppermint mashed in edges around top of frames and cutting off all my landing board entrances, bees hover and can go straight in, hive beetles have to land and walk in. My bees are also more productive. Shb will be showing up more in a few months, your best defense is having them in full sun. I have two hives in part shade and shb are always present there. Also don't give bees any extra space till about 7 frames are full of bees. Too much space too soon slows down production and gives beetles place to start laying. Just a few tips that have helped me. There's alot to remember and you always remind me things I forgot so I wanted to return the favor. Thanks for taking time to make these videos. Jesus Christ gets full credit for my growth and yall you tubes are God sent!

    i took the circles cut out by the hole saw and put a square piece of scrap wood attached to them to make a plug to put in the holes when im not feeding they are universal and i just keep em in a bucket then my lids wont rust etc from sitting on the boxes to plug the hole

      That’s a pretty good idea

      I’ve started making the feeder hole on my nucs closer to the end of the lid vs center. That way the feeder isn’t directly over the middle of the brood nest. I’ve also started using stainless steel lids vs the regular mason jar lids. The gaskets they come with leak less and they last much longer. Never hurts to put a little chap stick on the threads too. Makes it much easier to get them off once they get sticky. I’m converting over to migratory covers this year and been on the fence about the buckets. I know Bob uses the smaller hole and plugs his with a yellow paint plug. My brother can 3D print those plugs for about .18, I’m sure it wouldn’t be much to make them 70mm.

      Nice, That crossed my mind but I was afraid it wouldn’t seal well enough for winter?

      @@JaredBeekeeping bees will propolize it shut if they need it sealed it isn’t that much space to seal off

    Looks like you are off to a good start. You might put your full bucket on top of an empty pail til it stops dripping. That way you capture the syrup and won't leave anything to cause robbing. Thanks for sharing.

    if you are wanting to sell nucs for this year, best be putting it out there that you are selling them. you can probably sell them later on, but this is the time of year when lots of people start looking for them. i opened up my pre-orders in january but didn't have any sales until the beginning of february, and i'm nearly filled up on the 20 i'm going to sell.

    Signs of a busy beekeeper…..takes those few extra minutes to remember the name of a common machine……I resemble that remark😂😂. Going to the larger size gives you versatility too with jars of buckets. Keep up the hard work. It will yield success.

      😂. Yep, I think Bob uses 1/2 gallon regular mouth jars on his smaller hives. I need to find some that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

    Use the wood plug you cut out screwed to square piece of plywood to plug the feeder hole in the lid when your not feeding .watch Steve's outdoor world,(beekeeper in Florida)

    I used to run those ultra bee patty/bricks. You might consider the global paties from HillCo with the Apis Biologix (rocket fuel) in them. They consume more of it faster, and it's like dropping a brood 💣 off in your colonies, especially with thin sugar water! I appreciate the video. I am glad I was able to do my first inspection of the season today! I've missed it!

      I’m definitely doing that next year. I talked to Apis Biologix at the conference but I had already bought ultra bee. Thanks for the comment. good luck with your bees this year!

    Ha there's no such thing as bad comment helps grow your channel I finally sub today .. I've been watching you Sense you started. Look like hungry kind hearted person to me. Building your own equipment shows your hungry.. spring feed fondant or something inverted it's like night and day you be about at swarming right now . Last year you had problems with mating it's not going to be different this year.. those doubles won't work like that trust me I've got over hundred. Need to set up mating boxes in tall grass for best results. That reduces robbing. Almost need to start with both at the same time or bees don't work. Never take from one side give to the other. I'll teach you how to do queen right starter with that equipment later. Don't need to all that no queen starter thing

    Do you enjoy beekeeping? Or are the bees just a vehicle to make money? That's why Bob does it.

    • @JaredBeekeeping
      @JaredBeekeeping  4 месяца назад +2

      Both, I started for the enjoyment but now I’d also like to make money, though I don’t plan on getting big like Bob, maybe 300 hives or so but we’ll see where it goes.
