  • The investigation into the horrific collision of BAL Flight 2937 and DHL 611 on July 1, 2002 pointed to a grim sequence of events: an overwhelmed air traffic controller left on his own, an unexpected communication failure at a crucial time, followed by a catastrophically bad call.

    They fail to mention that the ATC, Peter, was sought out and killed by a Family Member of one of the victims!
    This is truly heartbreaking.

      True Peter made mistakes but it was the company's fault for leaving him with disabled vital equipments.

      Nielsen's murder was depicted in the episode; it's just not in this clip.
      But I agree. Everything about Uberlingen was a total mess!

      Why did the grieving dad kill the ATC and not his boss, boss' boss and the CEO of the company? They were more to blame than the ATC was. They just set him up to fail and he paid the ultimate price. IIRC none of the management served jail time, let alone got stabbed in the heart for their role in letting hundreds die just so the company could save a few bucks.
      As an additional bizarre twist, the grieving father returned home and was hailed as some kind of hero. He was even elected to some kind of local political position as a leader.
      This wasn't just some freak accident, but a horrific injustice all around. And worst of all, totally preventable if not for corporate greed.

    Everything went horribly wrong as only one man is focusing on two radars at the same time. I feel bad for that guy, as he was killed by one of victim's parent after the incident by vengeance. Truthfully, that man didn't done anything wrong because one guy went to the bathroom and they are lack of manpower that time.

    Another relevant omission in this information is the TCAS design and information flaws that allowed the aircrafts to pursue their conflictive paths. The US manufacturers of the TCAS systems onboard were declared heavily liable by the Spanish Supreme Court in 2015 after a long and hard battle of a group of victims relatives. The last line of defense that was supposed to be the TCAS didn't work and this allowed the tragedy to happen.

    Why did pilot went on collision course and consumed by ATC error?

    • @louieosumo
      @louieosumo Год назад

      The other plane was told to descend while the Russian was told to climb. But for the latter, they ended up following ATC that instructs them to descend rather than following their TCAS to climb. Then they thought the other plane was from the right, but its from the left. Too late for the 2 planes to avoid and ended up colliding. Everyone on both planes are killed and Peter was later killed by a distraught father.

    This crash was caused by pilot error maintenance problems an crew shortage the air traffic controller had a little bit of tragic mishandling of the flights but he had no reason for the crash.
