    The Tenerife accident wasn't caused by ATC. The KLM pilot was under time pressure and annoyed so he took off without clearance. ATC can be considered partly at fault because while they gave KLM a departure route without clearing them for takeoff, they failed to realize the KLM pilot was really about to do it anyways even when he announced he was going to. They failed to formally forbid them, and the pilot took the route clearance for takeoff clearance.

    The last video segment…Robin Wascher, the ATC who made the fatal mistake, lost both her parents in a plane crash fourteen years before the incident at LAX. Her parents were flying home from her sister’s graduation and their plane wasn’t ever found. I cannot imagine how grief stricken her life has become.

      @@Powerranger-le4up whether it’s human beings or computers, mistakes will occur. I feel sorry for anyone in Robin’s position and I’ve no time for people insisting on demonising her. Unless negligence was involved - like coming to work drunk - and the person was only doing their best, didn’t intend to do harm etc then if people are honest they should think “there but for the grace of God go I”. She didn’t deliberately send two planes into each other. The Tenerife crash, on the other hand, is not a mishap where I can feel sorry for the KLM pilot. He knew he broke the rules, he knew why they needed to wait for takeoff clearance and the potential consequences, yet he still did it.

    The KLM flight that crashed into PAN AM was not told to take off but sadly they did because the pilot had to be back in a country by a certain time and if he wasn't then he would lose his pilot licence it was a very sad day when those two 747s crashed

    • @rusher2937
      @rusher2937 Год назад +21

      He did not, he misinterpreted the tower saying "I will call you back for takeoff" as clearance to take off, as a result new regulation since prohibits saying "takeoff" for anything other than the takeoff clearance, "departure" has to be used in all other cases.

    • @KimShailee
      @KimShailee Год назад +2

      Where ATC can be at fault is how when the KLM pilot requested takeoff clearance, they failed to formally forbid them to do it. They gave them their departure route, which isn't a takeoff clearance as the KLM pilot should have known, but a simple "not cleared for takeoff, but here's your departure route" could have saved all these life. A simple "No" or "Negative" would probably have saved the situation. Assuming it would have been enough for the arrogant pilot's huge ego. He was so full of himself that there is a world where he would have taken off even after being denied formally. He literally pushed The throttles once before his FO asked for clearance. Atc never cleared them, but failed to formally forbid them at the critical moment where KLM announced they were taking off.

    By the time the KLM pilots saw the Pan Am aircraft, they were already moving too fast to stop. In desperation, the pilots prematurely rotated the aircraft and attempted to clear the Pan Am by lifting off, causing a 22 m (72 ft) tailstrike.

    designating (for e.g. 10L or 46R) a single runway to aircrafts on landing approach, based on different directions of approach is utmost risky . . . this practice is prevalent at smaller airports that only have one or two runways . . . to make matters worse airports with two runways aren't able to use the second runway for commercial paxs flights because it's reserved for the air force even when the runway is not used by the air force . . .

    On April 15, 2002, the aircraft on this route, a Boeing 767-200ER, crashed into a hill near the airport, killing 129 of the 166 people on board. IATA flight No. ICAO flight No. The Korea Aviation Accident Investigation Board published the final report in March 2005 and concluded that the crash was due to pilot error.

    The first clip primary cause was not ATC error. The pilots got terrain warning which requires them to perform a terrain escape manoeuvre which they instead disabled the warning believing it to be faulty. They were in thick fog so couldn't see.

    There are three air traffic controllers: Tower Controllers, Approach Controllers, and Ground Controllers.
    Tower Controllers handle Air Traffic having the planes climb or descend and planes entering the airspace to check in.
    Approach Controllers handle planes taking off and landing and after takeoff set the plane to their designated altitude
    Ground Controllers handle planes taxiing to runways or to designated gates after landing.

    • @maxvandenberg955
      @maxvandenberg955 Год назад

      No there are more. There are Radar Controllers, Approach and Departure Controllers, Tower Controllers, Ground Controllers, Apron Controllers, Clearance/Delivery Controllers.
      But at some airports not all apply.
      Radar controllers handle those flights that overfly the country and those who check-in to approach to the airport. They will guide the aircraft until it becomes the responsibility of the Approach Control
      Approach controllers and final controllers descend and line up the aircraft in sequence in front of a runway. Departure controllers do the same but for outbound aircraft
      Tower controllers give clearance to land/depart and may give some taxi instructions.
      Ground controllers taxi aircraft from the apron towards the runway and vice versa.
      Apron Controllers give pushback and start-up clearance.
      Variations from airport to airport and some control sectors may fall under a different controller e.g. apron and ground control combined.
