And a large portion of Genshin's spending customers are, well, incapable of clearing spiral abyss sometimes. There are literally players who take advice from experienced streamers about how to build the characters and how to clear abyss. Zajef does those types of videos, Xlice also made a few such videos.

1:08 There are similarities. But not very similar. No mention about aerial attacks? Grapple hook dodge, core passives? Indipendent combo sequences? And more.
2:49 that's basically PGR's core passive system but just made simpler. And it does make a big difference as it dictates the foundation of the character's kit. Doesn't take a theory crafter to know how important core passives are.
It's not just a charge indicator.
10:23 many people did, I watch a plethora of smaller WW, Hoyo and PGR CCs who reached Hologram. I feel like mentioning Chinese CBT players who spent money is irrelevant and weird. Like implying that they reached max hologram cause they spend money and not because of skill.
20:38 cognitive dissonance? Implying that what WW targets are players who spends less than 5 mins daily to play? When the general sentiment is that WW is something you could play for more than 15 mins a day compared to Genshin due to the stamina-less echo hunting.
27:24 No mention of hunting echoes? Or shiny echoes? The daily commission being faster is good just like in HSR. What's bad is if after the daily loop, there's nothing to do other than events. WW at least enables you to hunt echoes and shinies. I think this is quite biased and disingenuous.
28:45 seriously? A bit obvious my man.
28:59 not much to say about the gacha system? I'm sorry but a 100% guaranteed weapon is something you don't see in gacha. Compared to reaching 3 soft/max pity in genshin.
I'm sorry, but the videos seem to have this forced air of disproving the idea that It's not the same with Genshin where you can't do anything after 15 mins which I highly disagree with. The echoes and shiny echoes themselves are reason enough. I agree on some of your criticism but most I feel like are irrational and often mentioned in bad faith. Like the artifact strongbox mechanic which improves the RNG but you said that the CBT2 fix made it worse. That doesn't even make sense. I feel like the title should be "Why You Shouldn't Try Wuthering Waves regardless if you have and not have time."
It's higly leaning towards everything negative the game had and almost nothing positive.
Look, I'm aware that WW is often over-hyped but I've watched a plethora of CBT2 reviews who actually push the game into its limit that contradicts what you're saying. Again, some are valid but I often find you exaggerating.
Thanks for video regardless. It's still better to agree to disagree than dismiss something outright. Also, don't worry zajeff, you won't lose an audience and your livelihood won't be threatened by a game from a virtually indie company. I feel like you're intentionally and in bad faith, dissuading people because it affects your viewership directly which I understand.

@@DSC9593Exactly! I'd give him the benefit of a doubt cause in a way, you want mobs in a rogue-like/lite to at least scale with your own power level. The closest thing I could think of is PGR's rogue-like Cursed Waves. There are more that I didn't bother rebutting.
But overall, this video just feels disingenuous and frankly ignorant and really made in bad faith.
It's also quite hypocritical and weird. Like he keeps on insinuating that WW's target audience are those who can only log-in for 5 mins, or those who could only play WW during commute when he literally built his career with Genshin, a game that has only 15 mins of daily content and so easy that it could be played during commute. No mention that WW on release literally has more end-game content like the allegedly 3 end-game content and echo/shiny hunting.
He sort of has this cognitive dissonance that he keeps on forcing the idea that WW doesn't do anything better or it has anything good about it aside for some irrelevant things he mentioned just because it overshadows Genshin in certain aspects. And he can't accept that so he's attributing whatever negative is in genshin and exaggerating it then attributing it to WW.
Tenha's WW video is hilariously unwatchable, but this one feels worse cause it's dishonest. At least Tenha doesn't mask it. He just really likes Genshin. This one has a lot of insinuations and euphemisms. Manipulative in a sense.
But then again, opinions are just that opinions. I just expected a TC to be rational and logical when arguing..

As much as I dislike Genshin for their lack of end-game content, their elemental system is one of the best ever
Wuwa will follow the PGR and Honkai system where the elemental type exists purely to force people to use different teams and characters against different bosses cuz of their element compatibility ( and I bet you they will add a new element to force people to get a new character when we have too many characters and the meta is settled), Genshin does that too of course but on top of that they also offer unique reaction and type of gameplay when you combine different element and therefore characters.
The fun of Genshin is to experiment with different elements and characters to see if they work in a certain situation, sadly this only happens once every two weeks, and maybe an occasional combat event every month or so and that pissed me off. On the other hand, PGR and Honkai 3rd focus more on the combat content and I bet Wuwa will be like that too where there will be a lot of combat activity every week but the issue with PGR and games like that is that people will be a lot more Meta focused since there isn't much in term of interaction between element and therefore limit team building variety, most of the time you will build one element team with few flexible chara to slot in as the support making the gameplay very static. The only reason you switch your team is for elemental compatibility and if the new meta is more powerful chara drops and replaces the less optimal option.
Of course, genshin has meta too and optimal team combination is already established but because there is a lot of variables within a combat stage, the dev has a lot more freedom to add more variables like adding enemy that immune/highly resistance to a certain element or giving them shield that only certain element can break and combine multiple enemies with difference weakness together, making a traditional optimal team useless while a less optimal team in term of pure DPS will have better clear time in practice. This is on top of having 4 characters in a team instead of 3, on paper you only really need 2 teams so 8 chara in genshin but because of the insane amount of variables that exist you have countless viable teams to go with your favorite chara while in PGR or games like it, you only need one team for each element that consists of 3 chara so on paper you play with more chara in PGR than in genshin but in reality, I end up using 1 DPS on each element while the support is pure QTE bot with the exception of 1 team where I can do full rotation so I end up with only 8 character that I actively use in combat (6 element with 1 dps each with only one team has 3 chara active in combat). Oh and I really really like the fact that in Genshin with enough OP support you can turn pretty much any character into an active on field DPS or soup reaction team that rely mostly on reaction dmg like hyperbloom team and clear content relatively well but it is impossible in almost any other gacha game especially PGR and games like it cuz the character have very strict role and interaction between each other on top of extremely challenging end game that scale with the newest most meta character and team so it is extremely heavy in powercreep.
I play both the global and CN versions and I clear all the content in the game including EX6, Historical all stages, and reach a 1.8m score in Pain Cage to unlock the extra difficult bonus content and consistently reach Hero and all that as pure F2P as all you need is just one chara on each element (6) and the rest is A rank/free S rank pure QTE bot as support with lvl 1 memory and weapon at super low investment, using less optimal DPS and support is huge DPS loss and in PGR where you compete with other player or have super tough stages hat loss in DPS matter a lot more than in Genshin where to clear the chamber once you pass the DPS requirement you can have as much fun as you want to build interesting teams and have fun clearing content, you can do that too in PGR but on only very few select irregular event or content and it is not the norm.
So here lies the issue, in one game you can make countless team combinations with unique gameplay and reactions (elemental reactions aren't the only variable btw, some chara can heal and give shield or do off field dmg and you can increase or decrease the comfort and DPS as you see fit) but nowhere to use them while other games have a lot of combat content but you end up using one team doing one rotation 100 times. Both suck but that is an issue you have 100 or 200 hours into the game, I think people will really love the first time they progress into the game and get into knowing the chara and their abilities but the end game suck on every game I guess.
This coming from someone who has played Honkai, Genshin, and PGR for over 3 years. I'm looking forward to Wuwa but I really hope they don't fall into the PGR/GI static meta-chasing pothole that burns out a lot of people but at the same time give more fun end game activity than Genshin.

This depends on how they Design Thier characters. Elemental reaction are a way of making characters synergies with each other. Characters abilities does the same. Since genshin has both you might think that it has more ways of making characters synergies.
However that doesn't need to necessarily be true. Even without reaction you can Design your supports in a way that make characters synergies together. And because characters have more abilities in wuwa this is certainly possible.
My only problem with wuwa currently is the echo system. It's not worse than artifact system but it's not better either. And I was expecting it to be better.

A few things Zajef either didn't knew o didn't bother to mention:
Echoes do require of you constant farming, since you unlock up to 5 different sub stats on them by using a special resource called tunner. The sub stats you get and the ratio of them are random, exactly like Genshin you will need to farm pretty much forever to get really good echoes. So, sweaty gamers will absolutely have a reason to farm more than 5 mins each day. Also, you can use any unleveled echo as exp fuel for another one.
The gacha is more generous than Genshin even if they choose to give us less currency for some stupid reason. Rates of 5 star characters are a little bit better than Genshin, pity is 80 instead of 90 and 5 star weapons are guaranteed. Even the standard weapon banner let you choose what weapon you will get when you land in the 5 star.

Wasting time with ToF is something I resonate with. Holy moly what a dumpster fire that game was, especially the story. Character animations, voice acting, pacing, storyline, literally everything was perfectly designed to keep you from being immersed or interested. Even obscure unvoiced side quests in Genshin had more substance and immersion than the entire main story arc of that game. The one thing that game had over Genshin was the MMO-like aspects of large scale raid bosses and the community of your "clan", but that wasn't nearly enough for me to stick with it. I won't even try WuWa until I see some story videos, but honestly I'm not 100% sure even a good story could convince me at this point.

  • @Zeke1460
    @Zeke1460 3 месяца назад +22

Ngl I FUCKING DESPISE the artifact grind in genshin with a burning passion. So the wuthering waves echo system seems much better to me.
I HATE spending multiple days worth of resin on a domain only to get shitty artifacts with 0 use cases and horrible substats. Hell most of the time I don’t even get the right MAIN stat. Arlecchino’s domain for example. I’ve been grinding it since it came out and I haven’t gotten a single crit rate circlet. Or a single attack sands. And the only EM sands I got had no crit stats. And even on the good artifacts there’s a chance your double crit on-set elemental goblet rolls entirely into flat defense. That’s NOT FUN AT ALL. It’s infuriating. And there’s no guarantee you’ll EVER get the good artifacts you want. To this day I only have like 5 on-set goblets of the correct elemental type despite being a week 1 player (More casual than most but still 36 starring abyss). MY BEST crit rate goblet has 26% crit damage on it. And my best crit damage goblet has 6% crit rate on it. After 3 years of playing. Thankfully my good flower luck puts my dps characters at only slightly slightly below average cv.
I think the game would be infinitely more fun if each artifact had maxed out substats immediately after it drops. Then you could just level the ones that actually have decent substats without even MORE gacha in your gacha. You’d still have to grind for them yes, but you’d know if they were good right off the bat rather than having to spend a TON of resources on each artifact with some potential only for it to end up being completely useless. And not even giving full exp to another piece you feed it to.
Then I could devote more time to leveling up different characters and weapons, and actually doing the shit I enjoy in the game like exploration, story, and fighting bosses.
Also Genshin artifact grinding on average only takes me 5 minutes a day as well. 5 condendensed resin a day or so means 5 runs that take like 40 seconds each. That’s also not a real “grind” it’s just spending limited daily resources for useless artifacts, limiting your progression. That’s what it’s doing. Because like 50% of a character’s damage comes from good artifacts. And limiting account progression behind rng artifact gimmicks is a bad game design decision imo. I get why they do it but I hate it. The only way to speed up this progression is to spend money on daily resin refreshes. And unless you’re a whale, that’s just not worth it for the tiny increase in artifact quality.
Anyway sorry for the rant. I’m not about to stop playing when I DO have some good builds and things I enjoy in genshin. But I hope Wuthering Waves provides some real competition (unlike tower of fantasy) so Mihoyo would be forced to actually improve their game.

More often than not. As is seen in the economic world. Is that the new company simply syncs up with the bigger one. Why risk new things? Instead of imitating what worked. So we can very well just get a 2nd Genshin that simply reinforces how Genshin is. People often forget this is the most likely outcome.

    • @Axterix13
      @Axterix13 3 месяца назад +3

A problem with that idea is the very idea that Genshin devs need to wake up. I expect it is far more likely that those of us who feel that way are a minority. And even among us, we have different things we feel they need to fix. Like someone will be big on artifact loadouts, but others of us don't really care about that, because we don't swap artifact sets on characters. Takes too long to farm one set, why would I want to farm two for the same character?
Meanwhile, well, one thing I've noticed these days when a random joins my world to farm some stuff... they bring up that my regions are 100% explored. And when I do co-op domains, I'll often see chests, locked teleport points, seelies and such, within visual sight of the domain. And sure, these are the type of people more likely to do co-op things, those that haven't picked up loots of mats over time while doing other things, those that struggle against domains, but I reckon those players are far, far more common than those of us that partake in a lot of out of game Genshin content.
So, yeah, Genshin has issues, and it could be a better game than it is. But what that better game is differs from person to person, and we probably don't matter in the big scheme of things.

But if we have a similar game (WW) that performs well, the players now have proper points to compare with Genshin and the devs can more effectively take note of those points. Genshin devs are too slow to implement features that players want because, as you said, a better game differs from person to person. I'm sure Wuwa would be a successful and hype when release but I wonder if the game can sustain the hype in the long run. One of the mains reason Genshin are still popular (although I would say they not as much as hype during 1.0 - 2.6 patches) is people anticipation on certain character whether its design/stories/personality and people who stop playing usually come back whenever theres new archon quest, dainleif quest etc. If its just about the combat content like end game, and rewards then genshin would already die a long time ago. So I'm hoping Wuwa would also focusing on these things in the future instead of just pure end game and rewards.

Most PGR players, me included, are probably hyped to see what future WuWa characters look like. In PGR, Kuro's previous game, you literally can't even prepare current characters to the ones they had at release. Their kits are twice as big and have a ridiculous amount of combos, and all that while still using the same old button layout. So seeing the character kit creators that worked on PGR now work on WuWa does make me very excited for future characters.

I won't deny that gacha in general can be predatory and manipulative but it's also under-discussed how it is more generous in substantial ways. Being able to play the whole game, no strings attached, for free, is incredible for anyone who literally cannot afford the $60, or $20, or whatever, to buy a more "standard' priced game. There were multiple points in my life where that was true for me. As well as people who want to try something out before spending any money on it - many modern games don't have demos or if they do they barely show what the game is like in practice. Speaking from a personal standpoint, I've spent literally hundreds of dollars on buying games that I ended up regretting and was unable to get any money back for, whereas it's literally zero dollars that I regret on any gacha.
Anyway, in either case, best to spend responsibly and know what you're getting into.

On a more macro level, this is very normal across the games industry - see someone succeed with a formula and mimic it to try and poach their audience. [game name]-killers, "clones" and all that.
This works to some extent with traditional games because the games they were copying had a shelf life. Eventually people would finish The Latest Big Thing and look for something similar. But with Live Services, there's no set end date and they all want to be your "main" game, which means splitting the audience for a single idea across multiple games.
It's no coincidence that most of the big gachas right now are all different genres (with a couple of scrappy underdogs in each genre fighting for relevance - usually with better story but worse gameplay or vice versa). Competing in the same genre with the existing titans only makes sense if you can bring enough innovation to topple them. And sadly WuWa doesnt look like it does that.

I don't feel either way about WuWa because I doubt I'll ever pick up another gacha after the Genshin experience but I hope it's fun and succeeds to give Hoyo competition. And worth noting that this new end game mode isn't in addition to the Abyss, by which I mean we aren't getting a situation where we have all that we have now, plus this new mode on top of it. Instead, it replaces half of the Abyss cycles we have currently. Or, in other words, they are still doing their "no anxiety" thing. They're offering a bit more variety, in a way that encourages us to play a wider variety of characters (and consequently, hoping will lead to us pulling more of their "content"), but not more worthwhile game play time.

What I'm looking for is honestly what I get out of Star Rail. I want game modes that allow me to engage with the combat whenever I want to in a way that's a mixture of low-stress but also not blindly easy and quick (like overworld monsters). For me, this is Simulated Universe and Gears. I love building 4 star units, mashing them together, and just seeing how they do with mobs of enemies and bosses. There are many times I'll be watching youtube and just log into star rail for 20 minutes to go through a SU run. It's mindless fun. Or, when I'm doing the story and I need a break from all the dialogue, so I do a run.
I can't do that in Genshin. Yes, there's spiral, but I don't really find that "fun." There's a bit of randomness to SU that makes it fun, whereas MoC is more so work and worry if you'll get all the stars. Fun the first time and working to accomplish it, but not fun in a casual calming way.
So, I'm really, really hoping that they improve the balancing in their SU where it isn't a mindless walk in the park. Some of the best memories in Star Rail is early on, where you really have no idea if you'll survive your run (which modern SU doesn't have anymore, but Gears does).
