One thing people don't mention is that the v6 tends to be more reliable because the V6 isn't putting as much stress on the torque convertor as the V8 engine does, so your transmission will last a bit longer.
@@kentuckyjones7242 we're talking about transmissions here buddy, pay attention. The weak point of the 3rd gen Silverado has been the torque convertor and there's a growing body of evidence that shows that 5.3 trucks have torque convertors that fail at a higher rate and much faster than the 4.3.
The 4.3 is only bullet proof because people don't over tow/haul and abuse it like they do the V8. It's good motor for sure. I've had it in a Silverado. But it's not that it's better than the V8. It just doesn't get subjected to the same type of stress. If you keep your transmissions maintenanced and don't abuse the truck? The 6 speeds are actually pretty reliable in most cases. They aren't the smoothest shifting and have some weird issues. But they aren't trash. I've seen worse in other brands for sure.
I have the 2016 GMC sierra and I tow a 5000lbs camping trailer. Rated towing at 7100lbs. No issues, I have towed about 10 000miles, and fuel economy varies between 8 and 14mpg. Issues high rpm needed to tow in hilly terrain. As with all gas engines, lucky to get 200 miles on one tank, no method to increase fuel capacity as with diesel. Overall very happy with the truck.
Absolutely love this video and your truck! Unashamed Ford guy here, but I have to give respect to a good truck when I see one, also Silverados are simply great looking. The 4.3L V6, along with 4.8L V8 in the previous generation, are great engines! More than enough power for most people's needs, reliable and fuel efficient. I laugh at people who thinks they need a V8 for a grocery getter, but get a V8 if it makes you happy. Can't wait to see your dad's Silverado!
Thanks for watching the video! We're glad you enjoyed it. We definitely agree with you about 4.3 V6. It's a great little engine with more than enough power.
2015 At 114k, struts and shocks need replacing..sway bar end links broke at 113k. Other than that the 4.3 ecotec has treated me ok. I don’t tow, but if you just want a basic truck that is convenient when needed and won’t break the bank this is the truck for you. I plan on keeping the truck until it breaks down-
My 2014 5.3 really has never let me down. Only things I’ve replaced is the transmission at 210k and water condenser at 160k(common problem) other than that I’ve only serviced it for things that worn out like air filters, gear oils, motor oil, ect. Best truck I’ve ever had never let me down. Can’t speak for other owners who had worst luck than me due to the afm system or fuel pump design problem but shit I’m glad I didn’t get hit with that stick yet.
Sounds like you have a really strong truck. Sean wasn't so lucky with his 2014 5.3. He ended up trading it in for a 2017 GMC with the 5.3. So far so good!
I have a 2016 4wd dbl cab 3.42 gears 4.3L... I've towed my M610 bobcat many times and even hauled a 2000 suburban on a 16ft car hauler (trailer and burban 8,800 lbs).. Only time the engine really works is up steep hills. Otherwise flat ground the engine temp didn't move from normal... Trans stayed about 196F... I also have a snow plow on mine and does it very well.. I usually plow in 4 hi... If I want to push piles back I use 4 low. I can also say that when you do run e85 you can tow more, and can feel it having more v8 like power. But the mileage is only about 14.5 on average. Good engine currently at 131,488 miles.
I have the 2017 silverado 4.3 v6 wt. Love this truck 98 litre tank best ever cruise range of over 1000 kms twice average 750 km fuel range. Have the after market tow pkg. Double cab 6.5 foot box with a after market cap sitting at almost 95,000 kms so far no plm.two wheel drive with traction control or posi rear end .tow haul mode, love the downhill descent mode, cruise and air works great and blows really good heat in winter.
Great upload! I have an old 2003 Sierra with the old 4.3L LU3, I have bought all kinds of vehicles (since 1967), this is best engine of all of them! Great workhorse, no overheating, still does not burn oil at almost 200K miles. It won't outrun my 400+ horse 383 Silverado but thre is just something intangibly valuable about an inexpensive truck that still runs great after 20 years. Not to mention the $80,000.00 I'll save not having to buy a replacement vehicle anytime soon!
I also have a 2015 Silverado with the 4.3. I have a custom tune made by Klug Performance for premium gas, 315 hp, 335 lb. ft of torque at the crank (so they said). I can feel the difference from the stock tune. It's been so reliable I just can't get rid of it. Great truck
I’d like to know where to get this tune as well, what exhaust do you have on it? I feel like the v6 sounds like a lawn mower with any aftermarket exhausts lol
Woah, 285hp on a 4.3 V6!!! Thats as much power as my 2003 Silverado 5.3 V8!!!! Man have we come a long way from the Vortec engines of yore. Love the design of 2014-2015 Silverado. Like an homage to the 90s C/K pickups.
I have a 15 W/T 4.3 I am coming up on 130k and I love my truck. The main reason is that two valve springs broke at the 120 mark. Never will replace it, trying to make it a million mile truck.
Sounds like you have a great truck Greg! I'm sure you can make the million mile mark if you keep up with PM maintenance. Did you replace the valve springs yourself?
@@TheBrothersWorkshop No at first I thought I had a contaminated gas issues because it was just as I filled my tank and I was traveling through Louisiana but it turned out to be just the springs. I could of replaced them myself but the truck was already at the dealership so I had them do the work.
Thank you for the video! Love my 2014 Chevy Silverado V6. We do tow a 24' travel trailer with it. We added the tow package and break controller. Runs great. At 77000 miles we are running into a few problems within the last 3 months. 1) the a/c fan is only blowing on one side (it's cool rght now so we're not in a hurry to fix that). 2) the alternator went bad and killed our brand new battery (we were stuck in a snow storm but made it out before we lost all power). 3) as of today, seems like we need a new thermostat sensor or a new thermostat (radiator fan turns on running high when we start the truck and keeps running high after we turn the truck off). One thing, though, is that the back cab break light leaks. We live in hot Phoenix AZ so a little water doesn't hurt too much. She's a keeper until I bite for a new truck sometime this year. It will be a V8 4x4 for a little more peace of mind for snow and off-road travel.
Sounds like you have a very strong running truck. The radiator fan issue is common. We did a video series on how to fix it. I've linked the videos below for you! 👇 1. Temperature Sensor Replacement: ruclips.net/video/aJeksrxcCDI/видео.html 2. Thermostat Replacement: ruclips.net/video/WvLyBM8FHdM/видео.html 3. Condenser is always a weak point for these trucks, but it's an easy replacement; so as long as the lines inside the dash do not mess up. A few weld points on ac lines are poorly made.
What does your travel trailer weigh? I have one that is just under 22 feet and weighs around 4000 lbs. How does it handle? I’m looking at a 2016 with the 4.3 v-6. It has 66,000 miles on it. Your input may be the deciding factor in whether I get the truck. Let me know your experience when you get a minute. Thank you.
@@dslife1Sorry I missed your inquiry. We love our camper (4400 lbs) and truck. The truck handles very well. We are at 89,000 miles now. Still want a 4x4, though. Good luck!
One big issue to watch on these gen engines (4.3,5.3 and 6.2) is the high pressure fuel pump. When it starts to fail, it will leak internally and dump gas into the crankcase/oil. If you're truck starts throwing random misfires, it's likely the gasoline vapors are building up in the case and being dumped into the intake through the PCV. Don't neglect it... it will destroy your engine.
Have a ‘14 with the 4.3 with about 140K now, so far (knock on wood) so good. Engine is very smooth and quiet more so than the 3.6L in the Canyon/Colorado twins. It’s a shame it’s now discontinued. The LS motors really spawned a very good 6-Cyl but sure didn’t sell
Our family owns a 2001 Chevy Astro AWD minivan, which we bought off of GSA Auctions; it was a gov't surplus vehicle. Great little van, with a fuel-injected 4.3 V6 that makes about 190 to 200 horpsepower. GM first introduced the 4.3 V6 in the first Astros in 1985. For the life of me, I don't understand why GM didn't do more with the 4.3 V6 (essentially a 350 V8 with two cylinders chopped off) in the 1980s and '90s than they did. GM saw fit to fully develop Buick's 3.8 V6; in the late 80s they gave it a thorough improvement program that included a balance shaft; they called it the "Series 3800" engine. (Both the Buick V6 and the Astro 4.3 were 90º V6, derived from older V8s). In 1985, GM showed off a concept car, the Camaro GTZ. The GTZ had a neon banana-yellow pain job, super-aero nose with flush headlights, and a single-piece tilt-forward clamshell hood. The engine: a 4.3 V6 turbo. Judging from how hot the Buick Regal Grand National was in 1987 with the 3.8 V6 turbo, it's a shame the GTZ's engine never made it to production in a Camaro or a Corvette. Instead, GM made the lowest-performance 4.3 V6 available as the base engine in the Chevy Monte Carlo and Caprice. GM could have given the 4.3 V6 the same upgrades as Buick did with the Series 3800, and that 4.3 could have replaced the V8 in the Caprice and Monte Carlo. At least the 4.3 is still available in the Silverado. Too bad GM stopped making the Astro van in 2005, though. An Astro with a 4.3 was a great van.
I own and love my 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew cab 4x4 w/ Z71 package …also with the 4.3L V6. it’s been a great truck so far at 70k miles … just routine maintenance and preventative care. I have a 3.5” lift kit on it that I had professionally installed that looks great on it. I tow a 31” trailer (4201 lb Dry/5993 GVWR) we use for summer camping/road trips and it pulls it just fine. I hope it lasts me a long time.
I have a 01 chevy 1500hd with a 6.0. I’m sick of having no power and 10mpg. I had a s10 5 years ago and was gutless and junk but I want to get what you have. Really appreciate you being honest about the truck
I pull 2 commercial walk behinds, a 14ft trailer, and other gear daily with my 2014 4.3L. Probably 40k miles of towing and I’ve owned it since 120k miles. Still going strong.
Did you fix the flickering screen brother? If not I had an issue with my 2016 Silverado The screens would flicker and it actually shut off the whole truck on the highway once I did the usual thing when it comes o power… checked all the grounds took them off and cleaned them. Didn’t help What fixed the problem was changing the positive and negative battery harnesses with new ones There was a nic in the factory harness which would ground on the body of the truck and cause the screens to flicker and sometimes kill the trucks power completely Luckily it’s been almost 2 years and I haven’t had an issue since
I have a 2014 1500 LT z71 with the 4.3l ecotec. The only issues I've ever had is the radio system will reset and turn off when I listen to audio books and the factory trailer brake controller has had issue trying to activate while not trailering.
That’s awesome. We had a flickering of the radio that drove Dave crazy so he recently replaced that unit. We shared a video about that here on the channel. Otherwise this truck has been absolutely everything we hoped it would be.
Just got an all black lifted 4.3 gmc sierra with some big tires. It has 140k miles and i got it for $10k , it has some minor problems, two main ones i’ve noticed is some leaking around the oil drain plug and some on the rear differentials (both not dripping) so hoping it doesn’t cost me a arm and a leg!
I was just wondering why you put that thermostat and temperature sensor in the description. I have a 2017 GMC sierra 4.3L v6 and I just changed out the water pump because it went bad so I was wondering if the thermostat or temperature sensor is a common thing to go bad with the 4.3L. I don't have 25k on the truck. Usually a water pump will go bad after 100k. There's a guy that owns a business next the were I work and he said he has a 2006 GMC 5.3L V8 and he has over 300k miles and has never had to change the water pump, alternator, starter, transmission, or anything like that on his truck. Did they make them better back then?
We've changed the thermostat and temperature sensor on a different 4.3 l V6. It seems to be a common issue regardless of the motor. Not sure if it's a change for the 2014 through 2018 trucks or what. Typically this happens around 70k miles. The 4.3 we change it on had 125k before it had any issues, and those parts needed replaced.
Yes the second generation 2007 to 2013 are a lot reliable. Some of these trucks have well over 150k with no big problem. It's too bad I love the third generation body just looks better.
My radio was doing that, I had the dealership replace it. Also had the back of the seat come off. Had them replace that as well. Same thing happened, rode off the lot and came off. My gas is only at 15 average tho. Want to know what he’s doing to get 20+
Im looking at a 2014 4x4 with the 4.3 and it has 146k on it. I'm in the market for a truck and it's in my price range I'm just worried about that high of miles. It seems to have been taken care of. Nothing major has been replaced on it but not sure if that's a good or bad sign
Hey Kyle! It's always hard to say what a truck has been through in the past. Making sure the interior, the body, and the and frame are in good shape can tell you a lot about how it was cared for. If your going with a reputable dealership that also helps. Does the truck come with a dealer warranty?
@@TheBrothersWorkshop sadly I do not think it does. Its at a Ford dealer and I can tell the truck was used for some type of work. Maybe painting or something due to the bed being a little messy, it's about a 2 hour drive from me so I haven't seen it in person
You din;t mention the mechanical problems you encountered in 100,000 miles with your 4.3 V6. I have a 2017 GMC sierra with almost 25k on it. The water pump just went out and I changed it. What about the coolant sensor, and the thermostat, do you expect for it to go out as well. Can you make a video with all the mechanical issues to expect to encounter within 100,000 miles and it will be helpful to others, and save money as well.
We haven't had any issues with the 4.3v6 aside from what we talked about in the video. Our 5.3v8 is another story. I've linked that video here: ruclips.net/video/_PhJEEgriy0/видео.html
@@isoverifiiiedyt1245 I just filled it up yesterday actually at $3.34 a gallon with just under a quarter tank cost me $50! I drive 60 miles a day with hills and an average of 19.7 mpg bro!
hi! i have a 2017 silverado 1500 2 wheel drive with 4.3. love it and have reached 77 thousand miles. my question is have you had any transmission problems. i've listened to some scary stories on youtube about trans problems. at 43 thousand i had the dealer change the 12 quarts. now i'm going to drop the pan and will replace the filter but can only replace about 6 quarts because there is no plug in the converter. in another 25 thousand i'll go to a facility that can replace all 12 quarts, so far so good and no problems. thanks
Hey! We currently have a 2014 Silverado 1500 (4.3 V6) with 170,000 miles, a 2015 Silverado 1500 (4.3 V6) with approximately 90,000, a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 (5.3 V8) with 55,000 miles, and we formerly had a 2014 Silverado 1500 (5.3 V8) with 110,000 miles. None of our four trucks had the transmission issues everyone on line talks about. However, they all have the clunking noise/feeling that is often talked about.
@@TheBrothersWorkshop mine has a sluggish shift in one of the gears on accelerating and wondered if it pays to convert to a billet converter before there is any trouble. on the good side i baby the truck and don't have anything to tow and have the original brake pads on with plenty of "meat" left on them.
I don't know your truck, or it what it is doing. That said, I feel like switching to a new converter may be a little much. I just seems like an expensive undertaking for something that may not need to be done. Unless you can do it yourself.
@@TheBrothersWorkshop i probably just worry to much since it's my only transportation. i would think if it's really serious they would hopefully have had a recall. at 68 years old i don't feel like replaceing it myself and i think i will take my chances with it. thanks guys!
Good morning Dave and Sean. It’s now 7.30 h in Holland 🇳🇱 , why not start the week with a video from you guys😊 It seems that everyone in America thinks bigger then in Europe. Even the engine of a car must be bigger. The 6 cylinder Chevy seems to be a great tow car with a reasonable fuel economy so why choose for a more expensive 8 cylinder and stop at every gas station 😄 Here in Holland a gallon petrol almost costs $ 9.- and the last years the engines only get smaller, hybrid or full electric. Such a shame not to hear the fat 6 or 8 cylinders anymore 😢 For a lot of people Ford, especially the F150 is the Best Buy but they forget all the problems Ford has. When they go to buy a truck they are sold because of the looks and forget the rest 😂 When I may choose…. Sorry Dave… every day the black truck of you Sean! That really is a beauty! Thanks for this one, have a great day/week and see you in the next.
Good morning Henk! You have quite the time difference from us, but we're glad you enjoyed this video. $9.00 a gallon!!! 😲 We're complaining here, because it's $3.50 a gallon. I see why your motors are so much smaller. We're not against getting an electric vehicle, but we want to make sure it's reliable before making the big jump. Have a good week Henk!
Hi Henk. I am on my 5th GM truck. I own a GMC Sierra SLT 2018 5.3 V8. My dream is to drive it in Holland and see the reaction I get. Especially from cousins in Apeldoorn, and Lochem. Cheers.
@@newtonbrook haha if you want to lose your money at gas stations you should come over 😂 You see trucks here in Holland but not much, because of the size between all the little European cars and you see them in your rear view mirror they get all the space to drive bye. The roads in Holland are great but flat as a pancake and when you hit the gas pedal…. Before you know it you are in Belgium or Germany 😂Most of the trucks are a Ford with a little eco-boost engine, not the real stuff 😂. Let me know if you are coming, I work in Apeldoorn so you can show me your truck and let me here the big engine!
I loved the new screen you guys added. I had some issues with my 2017 LT 1500's screen. I just bought the glass online and replaced it. Works perfectly now. I would love to do that upgraded LCD that you guys did. But I'm cheap lol. Got the glass online for about 39$. And again it works flawlessly now and the resolution is slightly better too. Just wanted to throw that out there.
Hello Dylan! I can't say that it does and I can't say that it doesn't. It really depends on the size of camping trailer that you want. Check your manufacturer's specifications for your vehicle. You should be able to tow about 7,000 lb. That can fluctuate depending upon options you have on your vehicle, but most small trailers are fine.
I drive a double cab 2014 Silverado 4.3 I pull a dual axle box trailer probably overloaded. The truck drives great got over 130,000 drive it probably from 50 miles a day to 300 miles a day I drive Amish and pull there work trailer it’s been a good truck for being so overlooked.
My 2015 Chevrolet Silverado LT 4.3L V6 has a lifter problem on bank 1 it has 243000 on it. Since it is direct injection I will replace the heads because of the carbon build up problem behind The valves. the valves
Just got the same but 2018. 44000 miles. Put new tires on. I think i got a good reasonable deal when compared to new truck prices. 44000k is almost half price. Paid $31500.
I have the same year and engine. Got it two years ago with 45k miles for 19k. It was my father in laws but he passed away so we refinanced it. It’s been reliable for the past two years. I’m at 62k miles right now
Curious about how the transmission is doing. Mine is at 98k miles and I’m fixing to have a transmission service done on it. Have you done this on yours yet. Fluid and filter service not a flush. If you have had it done how much did it cost you. I keep getting like 4 different prices and all are expensive as crap
Hey Joe! The truck's transmission is doing well. We haven't had any work done on it and have not done the fluid and filter service either. Let us know if you do and what it costs!
@@TheBrothersWorkshop I took mine to the Chevy dealer today and had a filter and oil change only. Not a flush or anything else. It was 213$ with tax which is well worth it to me because I don’t feel like laying on the gravel fighting a oil pan. Hey Michael! Thanks for watching the video. It's funny you say the works trucks don't have AFM, because we also have a 2014 double cab two week drive work truck with the 4.3 V6. You're correct about the lack of an AFM display on the dash, but I'm not sure if that means it's not equipped with AFM. It is something we will be looking into for sure.
Any info if it runs AFM I got the same truck and I thought this always stays v6. My other truck had the v6-v4 and it drive different. You can also tell when it switches to v4 a lot less power
if you still have the truck can you measure the length of the engine oil dipstick I had my engine rebuild valve broke and scratched cylinder wall but they lost my dipstick and put in used one and I would like to make sure I got the right one as it is registering to much oil when it came from shop thanks
My screen in my 2016 won’t connect my phone it keeps popping up a error saying phone not found my Bluetooth was on and the code was shown i don’t know what’s going on
Have a 2015 v6 with 125000 miles. So far so good but I stress out worrying about the oil pump, lifters, transmission etc. The truck wasn’t cheap and the new ones are insanely expensive. I hope I don’t regret buying it, I’d like it to last 20 years and 300000 miles to feel like I got my money’s worth.
Replacing parts is all part of ownership. Nothing lasts forever, but our truck is about 10k miles more than yours now and running well. If we run into problems we’ll share it, and our solutions. As of right now, you’re right. It’s cheaper to keep her, and we’d rather replace an transmission or motor than have a new truck payment for 72 months 😖
Get a range afm disabler, bypass the the transmission thermostat with a Superior bypass kit and if you do a lot of towing, add a tru cool transmission cooler. All of these are relatively inexpensive and they will prolong the life of your truck
And I see what the towing thing as long as you're not wanting to do is have you said you can still tell us very small but comfy little camper with you at that I know it'd be perfect for my little camper that I got
Yes, you can absolutely pull a camper. You might even be able to pull one that is bigger than you think. After all, the towing capacity is close to 7000lbs.
@@TheBrothersWorkshop seems like left front. gets louder the faster you go. Thinking wheel bearing or bad tire which are all new. Taking it back to dealer tomorrow to check it out. When doing 60+ mph seems like your in an airplane
I need someone with towing knowledge, I’m looking at a 2017 gmc sierra with the 4.3 v6. I do not tow so I don’t know much about the wear and tear it causes. The owner tows a car on a trailer every two weeks, he’s had the truck from 30k-76k now, should I be concerned about the engine being burnt out from towing? Will it affect the lifespan of the engine/truck? Thanks in advance to anyone who replies
Thanks for this Bros. There is something about GM trucks that is just special. Kind of like a great pair of Levis (pre-China) or Stan Smith sneakers (pre-China) Old School cool???. I have two and love them both, easy to wrench on and that old school lazy torque makes them tireless.
Hey Claude! You're absolutely right. These trucks are timeless. There is something very special about being able to work on your truck by yourself. It really put you in tune with the vehicle. Luckily these trucks can still be worked on. Not sure what the future holds, but for now they are still cool.

i had the truck with a 5.3 engine that would change down to 4 cyl. when i heard there were problems with the engines i sold it. one mechanic said don't buy one and another said don't buy one and if you have one sell it. so i sold it.
Ahh that’s too bad to hear, the 6cyl engines also have the 4cyl mode you’re referring to. Haven’t had any issues, and we have both here on the channel. This one now has 165k miles and running strong. No issues with the cylinder deactivation that your mechanic told you about.

I have this exact truck 2014 4WD currently at 251k miles with absolutely no problems, or lights on the dash. Great Truck!!
Glad to hear it!
Did you do dfm programer or delete?
How often do you change to oil? What brand of oil do you use?
One thing people don't mention is that the v6 tends to be more reliable because the V6 isn't putting as much stress on the torque convertor as the V8 engine does, so your transmission will last a bit longer.
hu? the 5.3 is chevys best motor.. and its not even close.
The 4.3 L engine is virtually bulletproof.
5.3= range technologies AFM delete and superior technology thermostat! Proactive
Hey Dean, glad you took the time to check out the video. Thanks for watching!!
I have a 17 gmc with the 4.3. Intake, exhaust and a tune. Pulls my 6500lbs travel trailer with no issues.
That's what I like to hear!
2015 At 114k, struts and shocks need replacing..sway bar end links broke at 113k. Other than that the 4.3 ecotec has treated me ok. I don’t tow, but if you just want a basic truck that is convenient when needed and won’t break the bank this is the truck for you. I plan on keeping the truck until it breaks down-
That's all pretty much normal things that need replaced at high mileage. Glad your truck is treating you well!
Nice to hear. I have the same truck 2014 5.3 LTZ Z71 4 WD. Looks just like the one in the video. Only thing is the clear coat is starting to peel.
Lifter??
We're glad to hear someone else knows these trucks car work hard with no problem. Thanks for watching!!
I love hearing that you're into these trucks also. I'm stoked! 🤙
That engine is very strong and reliable. Glad it's still running for you!!
I also have a 2015 Silverado with the 4.3. I have a custom tune made by Klug Performance for premium gas, 315 hp, 335 lb. ft of torque at the crank (so they said). I can feel the difference from the stock tune. It's been so reliable I just can't get rid of it. Great truck
Where do I get this tune?
You can get 305 hp and about 330tq with just e85.... then again, that's for those who have e85 close by.
I’d like to know where to get this tune as well, what exhaust do you have on it? I feel like the v6 sounds like a lawn mower with any aftermarket exhausts lol
Stock camshaft?
Woah, 285hp on a 4.3 V6!!! Thats as much power as my 2003 Silverado 5.3 V8!!!! Man have we come a long way from the Vortec engines of yore. Love the design of 2014-2015 Silverado. Like an homage to the 90s C/K pickups.
We definitely agree with you about the style being similar to the 90s c/k trucks.
How bout a 4cyl with over 300 hp and over 400 pounds of torque in the new Rados.
I thought I had purchased bad fuel as well. The dealership tells you that if you bring it in for any issues related to the lifters... 🙄

Good luck!
@@azcarmela this is great to hear. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Take care and good luck.
Thanks for the heads up!
We have to agree about how good these motors are, but they produced more than you would think. A lot of the work truck models are all V6 motors.
They are good motors but the 4.3 is actually derived from the old 5.7 (350) small block. So it's not really a LS motor.
@@TheBrothersWorkshop That's standard equipment for the WT's I believe. Mine is an 08 Silverado work truck and it has the 4.3
@@Cw0346 not this one. It is also a 4.3 but LS ancestry.
My 2014 has 170k 4.3... no issues what so ever.
Seems to be a common 4.3 thing... lol
Still going strong? I'm looking at a 2014 4.3 that has almost 150k miles, don't want to get myself into a money pit
There’s a reason why GM has used the 4.3 for so many years
7,600lb towing capacity actually
How’s the towing capacity? Gonna be using it as a work truck.
I'm sure it will last you a long time. What is you MPG like since getting the 3.5 lift?
Good to know it will tow at least that
Where did you find a 31” trailer? Was it your kids power wheels trailer 😂😂😂😂😂
I have a 01 chevy 1500hd with a 6.0. I’m sick of having no power and 10mpg. I had a s10 5 years ago and was gutless and junk but I want to get what you have. Really appreciate you being honest about the truck
Hey, no problem whatsoever. We really love this truck.
I pull 2 commercial walk behinds, a 14ft trailer, and other gear daily with my 2014 4.3L. Probably 40k miles of towing and I’ve owned it since 120k miles. Still going strong.
I have a 2018 4.3 crew cab going on 114k miles so far no issues.
Glad to hear it!
How is the acceleration?
2003 astro 4.3 with 110k. Still runs as quiet and smooth as the day it was made. No issues what do ever.
Good to know!
Did you fix the flickering screen brother?
If not I had an issue with my 2016 Silverado
The screens would flicker and it actually shut off the whole truck on the highway once
I did the usual thing when it comes o power… checked all the grounds took them off and cleaned them. Didn’t help
What fixed the problem was changing the positive and negative battery harnesses with new ones
There was a nic in the factory harness which would ground on the body of the truck and cause the screens to flicker and sometimes kill the trucks power completely
Luckily it’s been almost 2 years and I haven’t had an issue since
I'm going to try your fix asap. I'll let you know what happens.
I bought a white 2014 Silverado with the same engine yesterday. I love it!
Good choice!
How many times does he slap the truck
500,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times! 👀🧠🤯
Thanks for the informative video I'm looking Silverados and GMCs opened up my mind about the 4.3 now
Glad I could help! We love ours. 🤙
Want to know what he’s doing to get 20+
The screen issue is still on in the newer models
What year are you taking about?
My 2015 has yet giving me any problems, still sounds good and looks good.
That's what we like to hear! What motor do you have?
4.3 is better than 5.3 I’ve seen 4.3 with more than 400 thousand miles and 5.3 being replaced with only 100 thousand miles .
We're seeing the same thing.
Just picked up a 17 4.3 today. Can't wait to see what she does for me!
Congratulations! You won't be disappointed. 🤙
How much to fill up the tank brother? Im planning on getting one aswell so just curious on how much it cost to fill the tank
@@isoverifiiiedyt1245 I just filled it up yesterday actually at $3.34 a gallon with just under a quarter tank cost me $50! I drive 60 miles a day with hills and an average of 19.7 mpg bro!
Dang!! That's great MPG!! 🙌
@@TheBrothersWorkshop my hills might be a little different than most lol, not super steep but enough to drop me 2-3 mphs. But mostly highway driving.
The stock headlights are absolute trash though. I swapped mine out for some projectors and LEDs
hi! i have a 2017 silverado 1500 2 wheel drive with 4.3. love it and have reached 77 thousand miles. my question is have you had any transmission problems. i've listened to some scary stories on youtube about trans problems. at 43 thousand i had the dealer change the 12 quarts. now i'm going to drop the pan and will replace the filter but can only replace about 6 quarts because there is no plug in the converter. in another 25 thousand i'll go to a facility that can replace all 12 quarts, so far so good and no problems. thanks
It’s now 7.30 h in Holland 🇳🇱 , why not start the week with a video from you guys😊
It seems that everyone in America thinks bigger then in Europe. Even the engine of a car must be bigger. The 6 cylinder Chevy seems to be a great tow car with a reasonable fuel economy so why choose for a more expensive 8 cylinder and stop at every gas station 😄
Here in Holland a gallon petrol almost costs $ 9.- and the last years the engines only get smaller, hybrid or full electric. Such a shame not to hear the fat 6 or 8 cylinders anymore 😢
For a lot of people Ford, especially the F150 is the Best Buy but they forget all the problems Ford has. When they go to buy a truck they are sold because of the looks and forget the rest 😂
When I may choose….
Cheers.
@@newtonbrook haha if you want to lose your money at gas stations you should come over 😂
You see trucks here in Holland but not much, because of the size between all the little European cars and you see them in your rear view mirror they get all the space to drive bye.

I just bought one 2015 20k miles 8’ bed WT. Love it, all the power I need with decent gas milage.
That's awesome! I'm glad you were able to fix your screen and for a great price.
I just bought this exact truck, does this have the towing capacity for a camping trailer?
Hello Dylan! I can't say that it does and I can't say that it doesn't. It really depends on the size of camping trailer that you want. Check your manufacturer's specifications for your vehicle. You should be able to tow about 7,000 lb. That can fluctuate depending upon options you have on your vehicle, but most small trailers are fine.
Looking to buy a 2017 with 4.3 v6

I’m going to drive it a few days and I got a oil pump for 6$ from harbor freight to pump out and change a few quarts at a time until I see red fluid again.
Hopefully she will last me another 100k without any problems 🤞
I think the oil pump should be changed once it gets just below 50%.
MY 2014 4.3 SIERRA 1500 WENT IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE TO THE GMC DEALER. SVC MGR TOLD ME MY OIL COOLER LINES ARE SWEATING..CURRENT MILEAGE IS 50.000. IS THIS A SERIOUS ISSUE?
I've never heard of that happening before. Did they fix the issue?
@@TheBrothersWorkshop they did not repair it. told me when I start seeing oil spots on the driveway.... they recommend having the repair job done. so far..the driveway is still dry
great video guys, thanks for giving the 4.3 some attention! have a 2014 regular cab work truck 4.3 V-6,lots of torque, and easy on gas,my chevy dealer told me that the work truck models don't have AFM,there is no indicator on my dash showing V-6/V-4 mode, not sure if this is true or not,if anyone has more info about this i would appreciate a comment, thanks!
Didnt know they have Crew Cab on the V6. Im sold on this.
It's definitely a great option. We wish it was more widely available
if you still have the truck can you measure the length of the engine oil dipstick I had my engine rebuild valve broke and scratched cylinder wall but they lost my dipstick and put in used one and I would like to make sure I got the right one as it is registering to much oil when it came from shop thanks
My screen in my 2016 won’t connect my phone it keeps popping up a error saying phone not found my Bluetooth was on and the code was shown i don’t know what’s going on
What aftermarket brake controller do you use?
Thanks for the video. But, the 4.3 285 hp and 305 torque is at the crank, NOT at the wheels.
🤙
is the mpg on this truck way better than the V8
Depending on what part of the country you are in, it's a noticeable difference.
Have the same truck changed struts a couple weeks ago besides that just oil changes at 132k i did just put a can of royal purple max for a clean.
We’ve had the same experience Kevin! With roughly the same mileage our v6 is running strong still.
I'm looking at a 2015 with 220k. V6 4.3. I can't find anything wrong with it.
How much are they asking for it?
@@TheBrothersWorkshop 11k
@@stevenpeterson2380 seen two for 10-12K for a ‘14 Crew Cab. It would be my daily if I get one.
Mpg?
And I see what the towing thing as long as you're not wanting to do is have you said you can still tell us very small but comfy little camper with you at that I know it'd be perfect for my little camper that I got
Yes, you can absolutely pull a camper. You might even be able to pull one that is bigger than you think. After all, the towing capacity is close to 7000lbs.
Ever heard of an owner who had a humming or buzzing noise when driving it. Say between 30-60 mph
Hey Bruce! I've never heard of that before. Where is the humming noise coming from?
@@TheBrothersWorkshop seems like left front. gets louder the faster you go. Thinking wheel bearing or bad tire which are all new. Taking it back to dealer tomorrow to check it out. When doing 60+ mph seems like your in an airplane
Is this truck 4x4. ? With full size rear door ?
Yes sir!
Thanks,
Back in the 80s the Ford 302 V-8 had about 200 hp. The Chevy V-6 has plenty of power.
Exactly!
Very informative. Good channel
Tha k you very much!! 🙌🤙
The 4.3 is legendary. Can't be killed.
Beast mode!
That's a beautiful truck Dave! 😍
Thank you! 🙂
I will change the oil pump as well.
That's a hard working truck! 💪
It sure is!!
What are you towing to Buffalo for?! That’s my neck of the woods!! Looking at a 2014 Z71 V6 Silverado as we speak, that’s what brought me here. Small world, eh?
We had a customer of ours in the Buffalo area. Did you get the truck?
@@TheBrothersWorkshop No I was only looking at it online! Lol. I have found a 2015 5.0 V8 Long Bed F150 for a similar price and it is CLEAN for a New York State truck... plus for what I do the long bed will certainly be a plus. I plan on calling the dealership tomorrow!
Thank you for taking the time to respond it means a lot! Say while I have your attention, any recommendations for part time online schools for architecture and home inspection? Thanks again
Most people don’t need a v8, a v6 will pull a lot more than people think it would.
You're absolutely right. Early tractor-trailers were mostly gas six cylinder trucks. They pulled a lot more that 7k!
How tall are you ?
Why do you ask?
@@TheBrothersWorkshop I’m 6’4 and not sure if I’m able to fit. So I wanted to compare. By the way, I loved the video.
My radio dims and then goes bright again
That sucks.. 😔
Awesome video !
Thanks!
Wish it were a 4x4. I live in Midwest so need 4x4 with the snow and rain. Would love a truck with that combo
This one is 4x4. Is yours not?
15 4.3 2wd double cab and it been great i replaced an 01 tacoma and for me its been as reliable done only routine maintenance i also think its a great looking truck i do run carb cleaners occasionally but thats it.
Thanks for sharing! Sounds like you have a great truck.
I have a 4.3 v6 custom chevy Silverado double Cab.
That's awesome! How is it holding up?!
@@TheBrothersWorkshop Hey! Thank you for replying! I’m right below Dallas (15 mins) Yes I’ve had my truck for about a year, truck runs great and sounds healthy! Only issue was the muffler. The muffler had a small leak or something that made me cut it out and going to replace it here soon with a flow master muffler!
I bet that flowmaster sounds much better! We got old Ruby down in Dallas also.
I get 23 mpg on my chevy silverado and i have the 5.3 ltr engine
I'm assuming you live somewhere flat...
When I got my 2014 it had the z71 sticker on it and the big wheels on it. I found out it wasn't a z71 and only 2wd. I took the sticker off and got the regular 17 inch alloys back on it. Its been a more better truck. I got 24.7 miles a gallon on it. With the big tires I was getting 17 miles. 5.3 is a good motor.
Wow! Try really tried passing it off as if it was a z71?! 😮 Sorry about that. At least your getting great gas mileage!
@@TheBrothersWorkshop really great gas mileage.
Good video other than the hand patting of the truck. I found that distracting. Thanks
Just like an old dog, you gotta pat it on the back every once in a while. 😂
Great video …Tell me they didn’t put the stupid afm on the v6 ?
I believe they did.
i had the truck with a 5.3 engine that would change down to 4 cyl. when i heard there were problems with the engines i sold it. one mechanic said don't buy one and another said don't buy one and if you have one sell it. so i sold it.
Ahh that’s too bad to hear, the 6cyl engines also have the 4cyl mode you’re referring to. Haven’t had any issues, and we have both here on the channel. This one now has 165k miles and running strong. No issues with the cylinder deactivation that your mechanic told you about.
You smacked the shit out of that truck.
💪
Do you have afm disabled?
Hello Gabriel! No we do not have AFM disabled. Why do you ask?
@@TheBrothersWorkshop I own a 2018 with the 4.3 V6 as well. It was my father in laws but he passed away suddenly so it was given to us. I bought the range AFM disabler and have been driving it for almost a year now. I was just wondering how your truck has held up over the years without AFM disabled. I’m at 47k miles.
I've heard mixed things about AFM disablers. With 125,000 miles, my truck runs great!
Does it have afm?@@TheBrothersWorkshop
It's basically a 350 Chev minus two cylinders.
Yeah, pretty much!
@@TheBrothersWorkshop It was the base engine for the old late 80's Chevy Caprice Classics. It was a gas guzzling under performing engine back then. It's nice to see that they modernized and still use it. Refined, it seems like a totally different engine now.
Nothing underpowered about an engine making 285 HP and 300 Ft lbs of torque.
So true.
How many times have you hit,,smacked your on hand onto your truck!? Lol😅
All 👏 the 👏 time!! 👏
Hahaha,,,,like a rock
Literally!
I don't get but 18 miles to the gallon with mine
It all depends on where you live. Are there a lot of hills around your area?
17 minutes for 4 minutes of info.
Yeah buddy! 🙌🤙
My engine just blew ... glitter in the oil pan
Glitter?! Sounds like someone was pissed...
I was thinking about selling my single cap v6 short bed Silverado but the comments made me stick to it .
Extra point: the air conditioner is very good For climates where temperatures are high ,in Bahrain(middle east)the temperature can be more then 45 degrees C around 113 degrees F in the summer.
Sorry if I have spelling mistakes. I don't speak English that much , I hope you get the point.
