Natural diversity is awesome. Forced diversity is not. You can neither force someone to live by your own morals nor can you force someone to violate theirs.

Yeah, it wouldn't have been much of an issue, if the new body types were just added to the ones that already were there, letting people choose if they wanted to change, instead they thought it was a good idea to force everyone to the change.

I'm being sarcastic here, just pointing out the hypocrisy of NOT doing this to the pokemon. Most of them are gendered by human sensibilities. There are select few that lean into real world dimorphism. The lions tend to get it right enough, Pyroar being an example they might be able to leave untouched.
They probably don't know that the stats are different, females tending to have a higher defence stat, and the males a higher attack stat. Nobody tell them, I want to see how many changes it takes to get there

My body type is the old model. I am a very thin person with hips, because I am a woman. The new avatars look nothing like me.
@@1faithchick7 Probably because the new models aren't based on women, they have the same skeletal structures as men. The most clear and obvious thing to point to for you to see that is the elbows and knees. Note the direction they point towards.
In the original, the model has elbows pointing backwards, while the new one has them pointing outward at an angle (also the shape of the musculature has been redefined to that of a man as well), they also don't bend sideways a bit like women's do, but are straight forward like a man's. The shoulders as well (not just the size either, but that's more complex).
The knees used to point inward slightly like a womans, with the thigh bone curving in a bit so that the knees stay close together despite the width of the hips. Now the knees point forward (if not slightly outward to the side) and the legs are more spread with the thigh bones being straight all the way to the knee.
This alone is enough to prove that this is a man's body, but its not the full extent either, the shape of the skull has been modified to be a man's as well. In fact EVERY point of UNIQUELY feminine aspects have been redesigned to be that of a man's (which is a LOT). There is NO reasonable way to excuse this as accidental, especially if you know how development works and how many people these models have to pass through to be greenlit and how many meetings are held to discuss every inch of every model.

The biggest issue here isn't necessarily making the avatars ugly. It's that you don't have the option to choose between making your avatar attractive or ugly. When you take away the people's rights to choose, then you can expect heat.
It is a clear downgrade of graphic. Like literaly a generation of konzole-graphics backward. It's not different, it's not ugly - it's a downgrade.

An Avatar is a representation of the Ideal self, or ideal alter ego, the more options the better.... to shit all over that is, heresy, and should be called out anywhere it is seen.

I wonder if this update is global, or just in western markets. I know the Japanese and Koreans already make fun of western game studios for making ugly characters so I could see them rioting in the streets if this update applies to them.

Personally, I dont like making my customisable avatar look like me for psychological reasons. It feels weird and uncomfortable.
I like to make them fun or cute so I can enjoy the game even more.
Thats why character creation exists so can create something you can never be or something close to with stark difference

I only sometimes make characters that look like myself because it’s a fun challenge for me and lets test the editors complexity.
I never end up playing as that character though.
I get adding a variety of body types, but also keep the option of players want a more womanly figure or a more manly build.
That's never the case unfortunately. Its usually replaces the standards without anyone's request because they know if someone has options, they will completely bee line away from their ideals.

Don't worry, the male avatars look awful as well. Nevermind the uncanny faces that didn't even get applied to NPCs (cuz at least they're safe), say goodbye to any form of muscle you might have previously had. Now you can be represented as either a twig, or fat. The sliders barely have any nuance and it's straight up impossible to recreate previous avatars with this new mandatory update.
Technically speaking Pokemon GO is Niantic, not Nintendo, although the Pokemon company is has been pretty notorious over the last few years of underdelivering and rushing everything too.
This isn't representation, this is substituting what we had and forcing us to use something we hate.
Imagine saying you made a game to get people to go outside and exercise only to tell them being fit isn't allowed anymore.
Pokemon Company itself is also somewhat removed from Nintendo, despite them owning most of it (although I think its still less than half?). So Niantic is like 2 steps removed from Nintendo, so I doubt that Nintendo had any input whatsoever on this. It about 60-70% Niantic's fault, and the rest was the Pokemon Company. Though really, its 100% the fault of the people that are now working with Niantic as a consultant or investor (I forget which one it is, though there is little difference nowadays) who are pushing for this.
Precisely, all 3 are different yet connected firms. I was going with Nintendo since that was the one stated in the video. The Pokemon Company never seems to have bounced back from the initial boost Niantic brought to the brand 8 years ago. Game Freak weren't exactly on good footing back then either, but it'd be hard to say they have figured how avoid formulaic repetition.
Considering Niantic is stationed in America, it's no surprise they are prone to the ESG nonsense that's been plaguing media over the last few years. We can only hope backlash will be noticeable enough that Niantic will take restorative action instead of doubling down/ignoring complaints.
@@Acatia2 Its really hard to believe that they will ever go back. Its likely that the investors are all in on this change, so for them to go back would create a loss from investors. It might even be that they will stay afloat as a company longer if they go against the customer in order to please the investors, than to make a good product (on a side note, I've noticed a lot more Ads for the game right around the time they partnered up with a consultancy firm, wonder what that implies). Plus I can't see the huge amount of customers of all types actually giving up on the game if they've stuck with it this long. Surely enough of them will simply accept the changes and ignore it to keep playing. Especially children who won't understand why this is happening, but also haven't developed the ability to search for new things to replace the old, or even to stop something that has become a routine. Not to mention the average person who just can't care about something for an extended period of time before they convince themselves its fine somehow.

Apparently you CAN alter the new avatar to make it look how you want, but YOU have to put in the work. Nintendo, naturally, made no announcement about this.
late response. but there's sliders you can play with to get the desired look you want. you have to go into the style menu and go to where you can edit the body shape, and look for the custom option.
Why do video games do this to women anyway?
This is why the cancellation of Fable Legends still continues to piss me off. We could've had a great Fable game that featured so many cool-looking heroines, who were all actual women. But instead, we're now getting a "modernized" piece of crap game that features a mental retard who *thinks* he's a woman.

They waited this long into April to release this update. They really committed to April Fool's this year lmao
7:31 No. They DELETED THE ENTIRE FEMALE OPTION. There's ONLY MALE BODIES NOW, but you CAN put boobs on them, with MAN HANDS, and MAN HIPS, and look like a Frat boy dressed in drag w balloons in the chest making fun of girls. You even have A MALE CROTCH. But, when you try to go full on MALE looking, they oddly made THOSE look sort of feminized. But, you can make the Avatar very overweight if you want now. The skin tones are pretty bad, you only get super pale with undertone variations, super mid-toned but it's semi dark, or VERY DARK, and the color swatches DO NOT MATCH what u see on the Avatar.

Forcing everyone to have a rectangle body shape is not inclusive. Have all 6 main body shapes at least. Then have a Fem-unix-masc toggle.

The update turned my character's skin orange. At first I was pissed, because I thought it made me look like I had jaundice. But then I squinted my eyes and thought i sort of looked like Donald Trump. And that's pretty based.

Thing you to understand is that non of these changes are to appeal to anyone BUT the people pushing for these changes in the consulting groups.
Speaking of those, GaymerX is what Nayintic hired to consult and make these changes.

At the same time the community manager, the only line of communication that the players have with the developers, they will say what the players have a problem with.
If a community manager is just there to enforce the standard rules and relay the issues wirh the community then its fine.
But this community for pokemon go, "he" is all for these changes, posted "his" avatar and its a 1 to 1 for the IRL photo "he" posted.
Since thats your community manager your voice won't be heard, you will be ignored especially if you are a T person who doesn't like these changes.

Strange how "genderless" tends to completely conform only to a male body type though. Every aspect of the female model was changed to be masculine, and NO feminine traits remain. Meanwhile the male bodies still resemble men.
But I think my male avatar does have more woman like looking face now tho.
And yet selecting genders has been the most important key factor to create a character, Like imagine you try to create a star wars character with no gender selections or you already made your either male and female character and then strip that away to a weird more feminine male and a more masculine female.

If they had left people's avatars alone and just added more options and given a free customisation (don't know if this needs to paid in any real or game currency, never played pokemon go) they wouldn't have gotten this much backlash if any.
From what I hear a lot of the changed options were purchased with real money.
The problem with inclusivity is that the more you include, the harder it gets to be equal. It's virtually impossible to not step on someone's shoes and when one sort cries out, the rest are expected to stand in line and support it - even if by their own diverse track of mind, they hate it. This in turn causes resentment to build and things get worse because of it.
Try and satisfy everyone; you'll only serve to please no one.
That isn't true though. Many games have general body type options and sliders to increase/decrease different traits on the model. You can make it look however you want without being forced to choose. If they really wanted to be inclusive Pokemon would have done that. They didn't.

Yes, Thank you!!! You hit the nail on the head! It has seriously been driving me nuts cuz they don’t look human and I couldn’t put a name to these new avatars!
This is not by accident, there is no possible way for them to "accidentally" change every single UNIQUELY feminine aspect of the model and make it a man. Its not even just the hips, the legs and arms have the bone structure of a man (note the direction the elbows and knees point for a quick example), the head has multiple changes that make it closer to a man, even the way the clothes fit is that of a man (note where the belt hangs, its much lower than the belly button now which is how men wear their jeans).
This cannot be reasonably explained as accidental, as it wouldn't be so consistent and many aspects of femininity would have slipped through. Not to mention this isn't some small indie studio with 1 person working on the modeling who could just be a dude who doesn't know what a woman actually looks like (why would he be an artist in the first place if he can't design a woman, anatomy is one of the first lessons taught in ART!). There are multiple people working on a single model, with entire meetings being held for every design decision and model, with up to even 100 people looking over it before its greenlit and added. And constant tiny adjustments are made constantly on the behest of not just the art team, but everyone, including consultants and the various directors and producers and other higher ups. There is FAR too many eyes looking at this stuff for it to just "accidentally" slip through on EVERY model.
This is a worldwide issue plaguing ALL media, and "coincidentally" the guilty parties are all being funded by the same investors, which Niantic had recently also partnered up to. Its more than just an attack on women, but its still sad that they are trying so hard to denigrate women in this way.
Even the Poster of the Fallout TV show had the poster designers photoshop a man's legs onto the main character. People instinctively noticed, which is why someone used AI to change it as a point of reference, but the original poster really did use a man's legs for it. Its plainly obvious too, as the One-piece jumpsuit strangely is lacking dirt on the bottom half (despite being caked on all over the rest of her), as well as the shade of blue being different as though the legs are under a different lighting system than the top (despite, again, being a single piece from top to bottom). Not to mention the fact that the legs themselves are clearly a man's from the skeletal structure of them as well as the musculature (even with the baggyness of the suit, you can see that the size of the leg is uniform down to the knees, despite that not being the case for women, including the actress herself). Even the pose (one foot in front of the other), is a clear sign they are trying to hide it, because that is the usual way that is used to make a man look more feminine. Also the Belt is way bigger and different in the poster, because men and women wear it at different heights, so they had to expand the belt in order to hide the gap between the man's belt and the actress' belt, so that the height proportions look close enough to further hide the photoshopping. You can see her from behind in the show itself to see how plainly different it looks in the poster.
So why are they doing it ?
This kind of thing has been happening to men for over a decade now, every male character feminized or replaced with a woman... now they're coming for women, who else is left for them to go for? The one good thing that comes from all of this is that eventually they'll have nobody left to offend, and this whole DEI thing will end.
There is no new audience, never has been, the exception is not the rule.
They were nerving women since 2013. In comics even 2012. Basically both at the same time but they pushed the focus usually more on women and were more sneeky with the man. Like Uncharted 4, God of War Ragnarök and well all the time in comics.

The funny thing about what you mentioned with artists, one artist from Riot Games the ones who made League of Legends, basically confirmed that he has been trying to push for what some call "uglification" he literally did with with a character named Fiora and then had to back down after fans complained enough, so yeah it happens. Not to mention how some artists can be such a pain to deal with on comissions, sometimes taking way too long or straight up not delivering on time because of X or Y reason, there's so many cases in which the artists just abuse their clients without delivering the art some people are understandably fed up with them.

It's been nothing but body type 2 ever since 2016. Women are a rare sight in games, and if they do show up it causes a stir. Just look at Stellar Blade.
If the transes see a woman, they'll kill themselves. We used to have padded cells just for them, just saying.

They've shortened the legs, extended the torso, and filed down the edges.
The male avatars have had their faces softened and facial hair removed. I had a quick look through the options, and they were all terrible, even with sliders.

So a little fun fact about the new Pokémon go update, it was done because of sweet baby inc
WHY?! I had to actually get on the app and confirm it for my self. It’s bizarre, my avatar now looks like a complete tomboy and less feminine, I’m actually utterly disappointed that they went this way.
Not just less feminine, but completely de-feminized. The skeletal structure of the new model is 100% based on a man, even the skull was reshaped. The hips and shoulders (besides getting size changed) have been rotated to be that of a man, and the arm and leg bones are reshaped as well. Look at the way the elbows point backwards on the old model, while they point outwards at an angle now, that is because the old one is accurate to female anatomy, while the new one is a man's anatomy. Same thing with the legs, they now are straight forward, but the stance holds them outward like a man (its why "manspreading" is a thing, because men uniquely are shaped in a way that makes it the natural pose). The old one is a woman so the knees point inward slightly while the thigh bones curve inward toward the knees for comparison. Every inch of potential feminity has been scrubbed and replaced with a man's skeletal and muscle structure. This is no mistake.

Destiny 2 did this as well. Updated customization options , which was cool... Until it was revealed that the new options were retroactively applied to everyone's character, which there is no option to recustomize or alter in any way.

To be clear, it's not that they necessarily made the characters uglier, or less feminine/masculine, it's like they just changed what each customization option was, so some characters end up looking all scrambled

Pokemon go update is a mistake. I am an attractive and beautiful woman. I have large breasts and wide hips. I work out and have DDs. None of those ugly 3d model characters look like me. "Women can't have tiddies and are fat" is a wild take. we as women should stay united and push back against fugly design. it's not just game characters, it's ugly depiction of women, humiliating and grotesque. I'm sure I don't look like these monsters, I have waist, I have hips, I have curves, I'm a woman. thank you for covering this topic and hopefully we can make our voice heard.
If there was a customization slider or they introduced multiple models that you could fine tune to your body type, total body, man or women, head, bust and lower body, that would be inclusivity, this is more akin to gentrifying or watering down to make something as inoffensive as possible to the least common denominator
That’s actually what they did. They added customization sliders that you can customize to look more like your body type.
