I loved the Quiet bits with Kong. It was very "Primal" and I Loved it. I also loved when Godzilla was finished he went back to the coliseum and curls up like a cat.
I remember seeing the Skar King pointing and laughing at Kong image on Twitter as a meme and immediately thought it was fake. My reaction to actually seeing it happen in theaters was amazing lmao

When Godzilla and Kong first meet up in the movie I absolutely lost it when Kong was holding up his hands at Godzilla like “bro chill” and then when Godzilla attacks him he immediately hits him with the pocket sand! 💀💀

GxK took me back to the old Showa era of Godzilla films where things were all cartoony and insane. We got little baby monsters, zero gravity fighting, and two-on-two tag team fights.

I came into this movie having zero expectations for this film, and still came out bummed. Glad you enjoyed, but I might as well just give up on the MonsterVerse if they continue the slop. Again, I’m happy that people had fun with it, but this just made me sad rather than bewildered at how “stupid” it is or anything like that. Godzilla 2014 is what got me into Godzilla as a whole, and I remember seeing King of the Monsters in IMAX while having the absolute best time. Hell, I even remember watching GvK and being pumped because it was awesome, but with GxK, I just felt nothing. I remember my heart dropping when I saw the first Godzilla x Kong official trailer while I was with my cousins and we all gathered around to watch it, and our smiles quickly turned to blank stares, and unfortunately, this movie was just that. I still had hope because I love the MonsterVerse films, but I walked out of the theater with a massive frown on my face practically. I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece, I never go into MonsterVerse films expecting masterpieces, I just expect passion projects from major Godzilla fans, but this just felt emotionless and churned out, which is something I never thought I would ever see out of a MonsterVerse film.
Sorry I wrote a whole essay, and I didn’t write it to try to negate what you thought about this movie, I just felt like sharing my opinion, so if anyone wants to reply to my comment talking about how I’m so wrong or anything, just know that I didn’t write this to criticize others opinions or anything, I just wanted to share mine. Tbh I kinda wanted to see more of Shimo, she should’ve had more scenes and how she would interact with Godzilla and Kong while not being controlled, other than that it was amazing
Yeah I would have loved to see shimo stand on her hind legs and have her look down on kong or godzilla (there is one image of shimo that she is looking down on something and she is definitely on her hind legs so it can be done)
I felt that Shimo rather than going back to the kong's empire, I think she should've moved to the artic.
The comics for the Monsterverse movies shows us more about both Scylla ( The spider Kaiju) and Tiamat. They are both Kaiju who do not acknowledge Godzilla as the Alpha, and Scylla was after radioactive energy to gain more power to challenge Godzilla. Tiamat was very confrontational and clashed with Godzilla on multiple occasions. Also apparently the fight with Tiamat was originally longer but was cut short for run time.
Anyway, Thumbs up for the Suko-chucks or Skar Ball scenes!!!😂

But both already bowed down to Godzilla ? Scylla did it in KOTM where only Rodan tried to be a top dog after Ghidorah died and Tiamat was forced to submit in the comic after kotm and she bowed to Godzilla, there is no real reason for them to now be Godzillas rivals again when one didn't even try to fight him and the other got beaten up when she was defending her home ... twice and first time she bowed and went to search a new home and second time was killed.
As someone who read the comics, you can't just use that as flimsy justification. Most film viewers haven't read the comics, so if the film wants to use these reasons as justifications then they have to SHOW THIS on screen. No ifs and buts.

This entire film was basically a God of War subplot! Kong wielding an axe and a young boy following him through the jungle and beating up monsters. It was just entertaining as hell!
Kong is basically a furry Kratos at this point. Imagine if a circle prompt just appeared over Skar King's head and he just smashes him repeatedly against a wall, stabs him 17 times, rips open his chest, tears out one of his ribs and finally finishes off the Skar King by impaling him through the eye with his own broken rib

@@Alteori I think the reason why Yile here explained the way they did (I'm just assuming so correct me if I'm wrong) is they think of stupid in a negative motion. Granted I grew up in a place where saying something or someone is stupid or ridiculous was always viewed in a negative way and needs to be ridiculed for being such in a serious manner so I probably don't have the best upbringing on that. 😅 Obviously not all of us are using that connotation for saying the film is stupid; GxK is stupid but in a good, respectful way. Not trying to be insulting.

I think the reason why I would say that Jurassic world was more of an issue or at least a later incarnations of it, is because it didn't fit initially what the movie was intended to be. I think there's a good middle ground and Jurassic Park. 3 Is the last Jurassic Park movie that handled that balance perfectly.
it was a fun and comedic movie but it looked bad because of the theme of the previous installations of monsterverse, being fun doesnt equate to a good film, its not like gxk is bad bad type of film but its defo the worse in the monsterverse imo
I don’t cate what anyone says; the RKO is going down as one of the most iconic Godzilla moments along with the drop-kick, the tree choke, the happy moment, and others. Simply incredible. :D

This was literally (from insiders) two different scripts that they combined because the execs didn't think this Kong movie would have been successful on it's own. It was originally Son of Kong.. also Wingard has said that the next movie will focus on Godzilla more in the way that this one focused on Kong more. I loved how it ended... I want to give Shimo chin scratches 🥰

People don't hate the Movie Cynic because he didn't like The New Empire, they hated him because he insulted it, he literally called it "fucking stupid" in the title, most of the comments that shown during the "Monserverse fans are a cult" segment of the video didn't even mock him or saying that he should quit or something like that, they said that they know the movie doesn't have a phenomenal story and exellent writing but it barely matters because the movie is still insanely entertaining. And also, TMC tried to create a lot of criticism out of thin air in his video, like how he bashed the opening sequence but it setted up Kong's desire to find others of his kind, he bashed how the Titan vetenarian guy was the one that helped Kong with his toothache even though he was introduced as a genius-type character who had a lot of experience and knowledge when it comes to Titans, he bashed Kong's metal tooth and said it had no reason to be in the movie although Skar King used it to mock him later in the movie and outcast him from the rest of the Great Apes, he said that it was stupid how Gia was sent to Hollow Earth to communicate with Kong instead of a random human who knew sign language, never mind the fact that Gia and Kong was stated and shown to have a special connection, that was literally on the main plotpoints of Godzilla Vs Kong, he even tried to act as if Gia's mom having a bad haircut was something to criticize the movie over. I can go on and on but i think you get the point, The Movie Cynic's other videos are fine, good even, i watched a lot of his videos so i would know that, but this The New Empire video in particular is just trash, it it is obviously biased against the pure fun, cool and awesome entertainment feeling that the movie creators had in mind from the beginning, and that is the real reason why people hated
his video.

The reason why Godzilla didn't hesitate to kill tiamat is because in a prequel comic, tiamat almost killed him in a fight over another lair, the fact that she's a destroyer class titan also might have something to do with it. Keep in mind Godzilla considers the entirety of the Earth's surface, HIS territory, so once tiamat challenged him for her lair that ment she might have tried to carve out a piece of territory for herself, thus not respecting Godzilla's territory.

My favorite part of this movie was when Kong was bonding with the little kong it automatically made their dynamic look just like that of Kratos and Atreus.
For real! I'm so glad people are comparing them together like that as they are my favorite franchises currently: Daikaiju and God of War.

But we see Godzilla legitimately in this movie in the last crash on purpose through bridges. So it is kind of funny people claiming that he cares so much about humans when he doesn't really. It's not that deep
KOTM does bring in a neat detail about his backstory, where it said that he does miss the connection he used to have with humans back in ancient times. When they built him that giant temple so he can sleep and reenergize there. That's about it though. Any other time he doesn't really care for humans. I'm just rambling here... not trying to prove anything. 😂
@@Alteori To be honest, I haven’t seen people get viscerally angry with you about this. Instead I only ever see people agree with you. I think the issue people have is that you seem to keep using only GvK’s characterization as proof that Godzilla was always hyper-aggressive and antagonistic brute towards humans and other kaiju from the very beginning of the Monsterverse, when in fact he only attacked out of self-defense and he was being threatened. I mean the whole plot point of GvK was his behavior. as it was explicitly stated being abnormal because he’s never directly attacked humanity up until that point. We have two past movies where he was pretty docile with humans.
I'm not saying you're wrong or that he cares so much about humans, but there are multiple instances throughout the lore both in novelization and comics where it was confirmed that he did indeed had some kind of soft spot for humanity. That scene with Serizawa was proof of that. Michael Dougherty himself openly stated that Godzilla actually did feel emotion towards Serizawa’s sacrifice because it reminded him of his ancient worshippers.
I’m pretty sure the next film will be way more Godzilla focused with all the foreshadowing of a possible space Godzilla entry.

Either that (“the monster that ate a star” seems to refer more to Godzilla’s bio-atomic powers than an actual star) or some version of Destoroyah, a creature that would definitely work for a “guardian of nature” character like this Godzilla, a kaiju that doesn’t want to dominate like Ghidorah, just destroy everything. If they ever plan to end this series, this could be the kaiju they go with as Godzilla’s final adversary.

The movie has the same energy as the Showa era movies. I grew up on those movies. The only heisei movie i had was Godzilla 84. So i absolutely loved that about it

I love how Shimo's personality ended up being the exact opposite of what everyone was expecting.
I recall someone on the godzilla reddit months before the film released talking about how cat coded they thought shimo was and people were confused at what they were talking about.
And now we have confirmation that Shimo and Godzilla's behavior is based off Wingard's cat
Hope we see more Shimo next movie, even if it is Godzilla centered.
I enjoyed the film. It took me back to the "silly monster of the week" Godzilla films of the 70s. With the team ups.

The payoffs were spot on. Lol when Red Kong made fun of Kong made fun of his metal tooth. Then later when Kong punched Red K so hard he knocks out his tooth. And Kong chuckles. Oh! .... chefs kiss.

I love it, I am glad my theory about Shimo being enslaved by the Scatt King was right on as she was all chained up and I am happy that for once Kong didnt brutally murder a reptile. To quote Andre of BlackNerdComedy "I LOVE THIS DUMB SHIT! AND I WILL WATCH THIS DUMB SHIT OVER AND OVER AGAIN!" Also thank you Alteori I felt the same way about Tiamat.
Godzilla X Kong is the Monsterverse's Batman and Robin. Both movies are completely goofy, make absolutley no sense, are filled with flashy, ridiculous fight scenes, and are love letters to an earlier and sillier era of the franchise. They're stupid because they're supposed to be stupid, and thats why they're good.

@Patrick-nq9ij It's a perfect comparison. The only difference is that when BAR came out the audience of the time had forgotten that Batman could and had been silly before. Had BAR come out today it would have been a smash hit just like GXK.
I'm glad that we got to see monster vs monster fight that stayed on the monster fight. Yet Scar king was kind of a chump, he was great with his weapon. Yet without backup he didn't stand a chance against anyone. The moment Shimo got free it wasn't over, it was a massacre.
I'm pretty sure mothra was always in the middle of the two pyramids in a cocoon made of the same active camo goo that hides their settlement. At the end of the movie you you can see her spraying stuff to fix up the hole the other kongs made.
I think Godzilla is a “Two strikes and you’re out” guy. He subdued Scylla and Tiamat before and then offed them as soon as they fought him again. He also wasn’t messing around with Kong at all when he saw him. He was also probably in a hurry since Skar King and Shimo were coming and was like “I got no time to eff around”.

the entire movie reminds me of that one time jet jaguar and godzilla jumped someone, that one time where godzilla fucking busts some moves, and the other time where godzilla flies by using his atomic breath all at the same time.
Kong's fists are officially E for Everyone. Godzillas, Skullcrawlers, the skar king, actual children, ANYTHING be catching those hands regardless of backstory/race lol.
What got me is that Kong really set himself up by doing the challenging roar to get Godzillas attention cause Godzilla can literally sense all the titans on the earth 😭 he could have probably just stood there and Godzilla would have noticed him 🤣 bro got tackled and body slammed for nothing poor guy!

Kong skull Island made more money than any "single" Godzilla movie. So there are plenty of kong fans it seems.
My only complaint about the movie is that Skar King wasn't as threatening as they hyped him up to be with that teaser they showed off with. He was supposed to be this big imposing threat that could kill Godzilla but Shimu was the actual threat. He has decent fighting ability but it wasn't anything Kong couldn't handle and Shimu needed to be control with a tool. The way that he was hyped was that he was above both Kong and Godzilla and that he had the ability to defeat them both. Doesn't need to be with pure strength but when you have Kong soloing him with mild difficulty and then resorting to having Shimu get him the win, he comes off as more of a coward than a rival. For a king that nearly succeeded in beating Godzilla last time he encountered him, Skar looked like a poser that was only in charge because of Shimu, instead of his own merit.
Except even in the past he nearly succeeded because he had an army of other apes backing him up. Skar King is so dangerous more due to his human-like intelligence and accompanying greed/ambition/sadism rather than just power.
@@Ryodraco And I'm fine with that. The issue is the marketing didn't reflect that. The teaser and trailers made him out to be a lot bigger than he actually was. Especially with his backstory. How are we supposed to believe he led a near successful campaign against Godzilla when his every moment didn't demonstrate it? It's a "show, don't tell" issue. You can't just tell me he's a serious threat, you have to show it too. And I just don't find him threatening when Kong is beating him and forcing him to use his trump card.
I think Pitch Black from The Rise of the Guardians is a perfect example of how to do what Skar King was supposed to be but very well executed. Pitch played his hand very close to himself, you didn't see how much of a threat he actually was until he killed Sandman. He doesn't come off as physically imposing compared to the Guardians yet demonstrated that he's proficient in combat on his own enough so to take on multiple opponents which establishes he isn't an easy target. But his real strength came from manipulation and misdirection when he was able to separate and corner Sandman to get the kill.
And I feel that's just something Skar King needed to feel like the type of antagonist they hyped him up to be. When the villain doesn't have any admirable feats _during_ the movie, it just makes the exposition seem like a lie. A slight change in the first encounter where he beats Kong handedly but then demonstrates he didn't need to fight as he sicks Shimu on him afterwards would've changed my perspective of him greatly. But as it is, he just seemed like a would-be challenger that got slapped the second he tried something.
@@leoncoben6983 I don't think Kong forced him to use Shimo, he wasn't even hurt by Kong in that fight. It more seemed like after Kong broke free of his attempt to strangle him he just didn't want to bother with fighting him personally any more, and went with a quick and certain win over the possibility of losing to Kong if the fight continued. We can agree that him doing more personally would have made him specifically more threatening, but for whatever reason (to showcase him no longer being in his physical prime, or to draw attention to his penchant for grandiose displays of power) they didn't go that way.
@@Ryodraco He was. Even if Kong wasn't "winning" by complete dominance it's still a show of uncertainty. He was facing a potential equal and ran from facing it. This is extremely relevant considering the past 4 movies have been establishing that the Titans are led by the Alpha's strength and dominance. Skar King isn't in charge because of his own power, but through the power of another and that weakness shows in the final confrontation where he easily gets his shit rocked when Shimo isn't backing him up, especially to Godzilla who took all but 10 seconds to destroy his whip once the two were actually going head to head.
At this point with how much we focus on the monsters in GxK, give us a Titan documentary. In GxK the visual story telling was actually superb, I can tell visually what Kong and surprisingly the others are saying, which is great! It’s giving me Primal vibes.
So about Mothra I think most of that was bc we almost couldn’t get her and she was supposed to be someone else but Adam managed to pull through bc of the test screening and get Mothra in.
Love this movie glade you enjoyed this dumb fun experience. Hopefully we’ll get the same enjoyment with Godzilla literally being the main focus now for the next one and not mainly the humans which is gonna be very interesting since Godzilla in the franchise has never been the focus aside from the humans before.

@@Alteori I think that is because the smallest groups are loudest. Godzilla is not that popular like King Kong. The reason for that is because there been plenty of silly Godzilla movies and the previous King Kong movie was Peter Jacksons one and it was a successful. Plus, the image of giant ape holding a beautiful blond on the top of the building is very iconic.

I finished watching GXK Last Night and it was pretty good and a fun Popcorn Film, Although I’m not gonna lie I got vibes from Rio, HTTYD2, and God of War 2018 watching Godzilla X Kong and I Laugh with It so yeah it’s Bizarre but Fun, also I just realized Shimo looks similar to the Skylanders Flashwing.
I love this movie and I understand people not liking the movie, but I got so tired of people bringing up minus one Godzilla when criticize this movie.

Funny you mention Kong needing to find a female Kong to have an actual family with (which for me personally, I don't think he needs to) because we actually do get to see some female Kongs WITH children in the background in the scene where Skar King gets his apes ready to go to the surface world. So it's possible he could get a Lady Kong but honestly feel bad for my homie because he probably has little to no experience with the ladies.... you know, considering he's been living by himself for years. 😅 Wish him the best though and I'm sure he can pull some in with that wicked smile he flashed. The issue was The Movie Cynic claimed he owned all 36 movies, enjoyed them and watched them as a kid, but said that this movie was too ridiculous for his taste.
My brother in Christ this movie was TAME compared to the Showa Era and if he actually watched the Showa Era movies and enjoyed them, he'd know they were 100 times wackier than GxK.
Essentially: He's a fake fan and kicked a hornets nest. Again, you don't HAVE to like GxK, but it's the smug confidence and his whole "I respect the Godzilla franchise but this is too far." Attitude that caused everyone to dogpile on him.
As for Doctor Skipper, he used AI, had NO idea what he was talking about and the same goes to Cynic. It's all down to research, which if Cynic actually did his research on the Showa Era of movies, he wouldn't have caught as much flak.
And if the direction isn't your preference that's okay, but it's overtly a throwback to the Showa Godzilla. If you don't like Showa, don't buy a ticket to see GxK. Easy. It's like saying you hate gay things, but go to a gay bar anyway. If you're going to be miserable around the crowd of people who are enjoying something they enjoy but you don't, then why show up in the first place? No one is forcing anyone to enjoy anything.

It reminded me of my childhood when I watched the older Godzilla movies, i actually laughed out loud when kong used mini knog as a club, and kong road Godzilla i actually yelled hell ya,and I'm usually a quite person. 9/10 can't wait for the next movie.

"Muh Minus One" That's why people are dunking on people like Moon and Cynic, nobody cares and no I don't blame Minus One the film at all. The movie took inspiration from different eras of this creature that some call "Apolitical" which is hilariously tone death. This movie should be right up with many anti-woke's ally, no messaging at all, but no. Some feel they want to make a name for themselves and get easy click bait by wanking off the Japanese and crap on the Americans in a us vs them narrative, despite Toho and Legendary being on the same side for christ sakes, to what they think is their weeb audience and yet it blew up in their faces and good riddance. Its not about them not loving this or any of the monster verse or anything not 1954/minus one Godzilla films, its about their patronizing attitude despite themselves claiming wanting simple fun movies and not propaganda, get one and still fine ways to stir the pot. Basically, they aren't sincere, it comes across as grifting for views and that's why both got utterly dunked on like Skipper. I'm glad the movie is doing incredibly well after so many people who claimed never even cared about Godzilla until minus one wrote this off as a guaranteed flop.

It’s definitely not a movie you go to watch for the “plot.” And I was honestly ok with that. I knew what I came there to watch, which were Kaiju throwing hands. Now do I think the movie could’ve had more depth to it? Yeah sure I do, but overall I wasn’t disappointed.

I noticed a some people really didn’t like that the movie focused a lot on Kong. I’m a Godzilla fan, but the movie focusing on Kong was honestly a breath of fresh air for me. He’s only had one solo movie in the MonsterVerse and he was barley in it. Plus I’ve always enjoyed movies and shows that don’t rely on dialogue to tell a story and this really put the spotlight on Kong’s character and his thoughts and the way he views the world around him.
I honestly love Kong. I love Godzilla but Kong is way more relatable and sweet.

I mean Kong has had 3 movies now where the story is all about him, It's not like he's being sidelined. However the opposite can be said for Godzilla though. He hasn't had a character driven story since KOTM and his involvement in this movie he has very little plot relevance whatsoever. Like Alteori said, he's basically a plot device in this film. Which to me I think is pretty insulting because Godzilla should be anything BUT a plot device. He's not a prop, he's a character.

I’m not hating on his character I love that about him, and he can be a relatively complex character when the writers want him to be, but at it’s core that’s literally what his character is. Kong is different and is basically the human version of a Titan and it’s just fun to see him discover new things and learn how to operate in the world around him.

There are a plethora of iterations of Godzilla and most of them have a character to explore, he's not always the force of nature that has no character. In fact funnily enough, those iterations are more fewer in comparison. A lot of people have this idea that Godzilla is completely unrelatable when there are films that break that notion. Hell, the guy was a single parent in the late Showa and Heisei movies haha, you're gonna tell me that's not relatable? The thing is, the writers COULD'VE put more character content for the Big G in this movie but instead it was all given to Kong. Now I understand that Wingard has expressed interest in making a sequel that focuses on Godzilla this time around, which I am happy to hear but what does he have planned? Well, we don't know until its confirmed that a sequel will commence production.
Something I did notice which I find strange is that people are becoming more and more okay with rendering Godzilla's role into a footnote by this point, I mean the Monsterverse started with him... I hope I'm not the only one who noticed this but its completely bizarre to me. Do people not want movies that explores him as a character anymore?

I mean... it is Kong's story. 😅 Kind of inevitable other monsters aren't going to get that much screentime. HELL Godzilla has more screen time here than he did in Godzilla vs Kong, at least to me so it's not that big of a deal. Though I do get what you mean.
20:05 The reason Mothra just appeared and is a little weird is because the studio wanted mothra but assumed they wouldn’t get the rights to mothra so they whipped up a new titan called “Fosphera” or “Phosphera” which is just mothra but she looks like a weird bird creature, basically the test screening audience didn’t like her and so the studio decided to get mothra and re edit her in, thats why you can still see fosphera in the cave paintings when the humans are there, you can find the leaked images of fosphera on the internet.
Yeah... shame we lost out on a new monster but glad we got an old one back. Should have tweaked her a little bit more but that's nitpicky.

Maybe if they really put work into her she could’ve been a really cool new ally, maybe like a cousin of mothra that seeks to avenge her cousin. But judging by what is in the movie the test audiences weren’t fans of her.

Don’t listen to anyone about their movie experience, go out there and see it for your self. For me I saw it on the biggest screen Imax and with my wife and 4yr son and I quote him “this was the best movie ever” enough said!!!
I think they're doing a play on the 'fairy folk' who were originally connected to Mothra, they'd sing songs and give praise to summon or force Mothra to evolve quicker. While it usually seems to have the typical lifecycle of a moth (egg, worm, pupa, moth) it's always been kinda murky as to how long it takes. Usually it's depicted as, once it hits the final stage it lays an egg and then goes off to die in some kind of epic battle. Some fun facts though, when it did lay two eggs one of them turned evil and tried to kill everybody, also, it has given birth to a male version of the monster, which was much stronger, but, also the last of its line because it couldn't make eggs.
Scar King reminds me of the "gang boss" main bad guy from a cop movie.
Glad you liked the movie, but I think you're being a little bit too harsh on GXK, I wouldn't personally call it stupid, but I definitely would say it doesn't take itself as seriously as most modern films, AND I LOVE THAT. I do personally agree that Godzilla should have played a bigger part in the film, but rumors are already floating around that the next Monsterverse movie will focus more on big G. Besides, Kong just had the more interesting story to tell this time around, I'm okay with that.
I love that too but it doesn't change the fact that it's stupid fun. Stupid doesn't always have to mean negative. If I'm rough housing with my brothers and my cousins we're acting stupid and silly - not necessarily a bad thing 😊
I wish the monsters still felt like they moved with weight behind them. The way that they move now, they don't really feel as massive and majestic as they did in the first few monsterverse movies
