Amen about the axles! Seriously frustrated! Good luck brother! We use to use a thin strip of heat shrink around our mip cvd's, Woukd always keep the pins in!
I have a significant amount of run time on my MoFo Rc portals, they have worked very well.....
Nice, I just bought some. Hopefully I have good luck too. If not I guess I can always return them.
My stainless crap axles i instantly soaked the pins in lock tight before using them and haven't had a issue yet with those like so many have!
Iceberg RC invented and had the portals machined. Somehow unknown to us customer, RCAWD bought the "rights" from the machine shop and now are relabeled as RCAWD. They are truly Iceberg RCs portals, NOT RCAWD
If so, that’s pretty bad. The machine shop sold one client’s design to another client?
@@mgscheue that's what I understand. That's why doing business with China sucks. 0 ethics.
We can all say that sad all we want but when you're in a position and you have a product if that product is worth a lot of money and somebody's willing to pay that you'll sell it especially if you're not doing that good
Just wanted to add to this. I went and got a set. I’ve had good luck with them and not disappointed with the purchase. The micro Komodo however was super jealous and snapped a drive shaft, really that was me getting the front wheel ina bind. 😂
Thanks for the video, fitted mine Monday night. Mine doesn't have the dog bone either, combined with the castor set back, gives a great steering angle. Wasn't sure if everything was loctite but, after seeing the video I'll go ahead strip and grease. Maybe fit an o ring on the worm gear as there's a bit of slop there. Great axles so far. Cheers👍
Finally! A little bit extra thread on the axles! Definitely interested in these now, along with the cvd's these should be a huge improvement. Thanks for the vid Matt ❤️
And they actually just came out with cvds for the stock axles as well. I ordered 5 sets. Haven’t got them yet but I’m excited for them
@@2fmrc oh nice! Time to go shopping I guess 😂
@@mentula3784 use the code 2FMRCAWD5 for 5% off if you do. Just got it active! Saves a little anyway lol
Great looking little crawler. I just leave my Betty and Jeep scx24 crawlers on the shelf since I got into 1/10 scale.
Yeah usually when the weather gets nice I’m all about the 1/10s but now that I’ve started making a small area outdoors for these at the house I’ve actually been running them quite a bit. I was getting a little bored with my indoor course but now I’m excited about them again lol
Just got a new basher , so i played with it pretty hard for a month , but I just can't quit the scx24 's ! Its an addiction
Nice portals that work ? They look good also !! Great video !
Thanks! So far they’ve been great!
And you seem really genuine how people get so pissy about some of your stuff and that's what you said a lot of people get upset run their mouth or whatever but if you're trying to help people and just a comment if you read the comments were you're responding you can tell you're a nice dude good job
I vote you use your super powers to have someone make a bolt on ring and pinion axle setup for those monster truck and bouncer builds!
Hey man, enjoyed the video and just joined the hobby a few months ago. Looking at portal axles now, and a lot of people have great things to say about this kit. But since this kit has come out, there is an entire ENTICING line of portals for about 55 bucks A PAIR!
Yeah I probably wouldn’t recommend these now. I actually did an update vid on them shortly after this where I broke an axle on them.
@@2fmrc Yeah? Sorry to hear that, kinda no excuse for that design oversight of a 2-piece upgrade that is 91% of the price of a new SCX24
@@2fmrcWhat are the best axles for 1/24 in your experience now?
I just bought some RCAWD portals for my build and they are pretty nice out of the box. I hope they are lubed
I have a concrete section in my course that has twisted & bent like 5 front drives shaft pins. All after I put the furitek komodo in though.
Yeah it’s hard on them for sure!
Ive been running the rcawd for about a week now and haven't had issues so far after I greased them good. Ive been thinking of doing a "Short term review" type of content, it usually always works and looks good out of the box but how about after use? Maybe a week or so not sure on how optimal of a time frame, seems better if reviews could be done that way. Love it Matt stay awesome.
Subbed. Look forward to that review!
I was ready to toss my $600+ scx24 in the garbage, no, down the food disposal! 2 sets of dubious parentage axles, 3 sets of Yeah Racing axles, the axle housing, steering knuckles, bearings, wheels changed equals 5 minutes of easy crawling until the dog bones self destruct. However RC4WD offers CVD axles for non portal front axles. Mine are ordered. Hope they work or it is time to save up for a Capra and put the micro crawler genera down as a failed coulda, shoulda, woulda but didn't platform to spend my time and money on. HEY!! Liam!
I run Samix 3.5mm hex on my portal, so I can run the treal wheels too.
Man you need to compare those slime ball foams vs standard foams! A side hill steepness comparison and steering accuracy when the tire wants to smear (usually coming downhill) would be great tests
I’m waiting on a set for the scramblers now and definitely gonna do that comparison vid. I think for most of the smaller tires they aren’t a must have but are nice. For the scramblers I feel like they are a must have! Those tires are super soft! I love them but hate to sidehill with them lol
Ordered my rcawd portals yesterday! Hopefully they can clear injora and rc4wd wheels
I haven’t had any issues with wheels clearing on them. May need a small o ring or something under the wheel nut but that’ll just help the wheel nuts stay on.
Love the channel Matt. At the end of the day are portals worth it? Is the overall performance better, or is it not really needed at this scale? 🤔
Really appreciate that! I don’t think they are worth the money honestly at this scale. The amount of performance gain is very minimal and they raise cog. Add in the price of them, extra gears for wear and slop in drivetrain and the fact that there really isn’t really a great set for the scx24 (liked these but they’ve also broke cvds) id say pass honestly. I always look at price vs performance and I just can’t really justify them at their price.
Wow!!! Great break down on those portals. I am still running the Old Time RC ones. They have been working pretty good over all, but I have noticed that the extra driveline drag causes the motor to get warmer then normal, so I have to park it for a few minutes to cool. Have you noticed any heat issues with any of the portals you have been messing with?🤘🤘🤘
Well I killed 2 motors before I figured out the binding with the MofoRC ones. Haven’t had an issue with these Rcawd ones yet.
You’re not the only one that has had an axle housing snap. Lgrp did take care of it though.
Yeah they have took care of me so far but it gets pretty aggravating having to wait for parts all the time.
@@2fmrc that it does. It happened to me on one of the first batches they put out of portal axles. It fell about 6” from my course to the soft dirt. On a rather light weight c10. Only added weight was their brass diff cover and front brass portal boxes.
Great truck builds with different products. Where are those rock sliders from? Look pretty clean.
What kind of grease do you recommend ?
Putting it together using some type of drill or electric gun to put it together so I can go real fast and snapped it off and didn't realize it
I stopped using these soft pins. I use drill bits for new pins... Thanks!
had the pin come out of the knuckle on my ecx temper gen 2.... on the second day of using it.... got hung up.... snapped the front drive line.... apparently all they have are plastic drive line replacements
Ask them if they can add a grease port. just a hole with a small screw.
Matt, where to find the chassis. I have the old time rc portals, the iceberg portals, and the mofo portals, now just waiting for the rcawd portals probably show up tomorrow Saturday been on order for a while. However I will say I had not seen or heard of the first of the portals you mentioned at the beginning of the video. Thx for sharing and always thx for being such a straight up guy with all the parts you test and install. Rock on 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Heck yeah! Let me know how you like them. The chassis is a bit hard to come by atm. They are only doing a release here and there. I found them on Facebook. I’ll try to get a link for ya
@@2fmrc awww man !! I don't have Facebook or any social media but oh well. I mostly get everything through the net but thx anyhow. I appreciate the response, thx a bunch. Rock on and keep up the cool vids.🤘🏻🤘🏻

Thanks for running this stuff for us! I questioned the mofo portals not having bearings but really like what they had to offer. Good to know. I’d like to do portals soon, so I’ll be staying tuned. Well, I stay tuned anyway, but… you know what I mean.
I appreciate it! I’ll update once I have some good run time on them
Seems like a quick money grab. Better warn some people before they waste money on them
@@wildmangeorgesrcchannel6916
A money grab? By mofo? Eh, maybe but maybe it’s just a part that needs redesigning so it functions properly. Maybe a couple shortcuts were made to keep cost down trying to bring something really cool to the table and it just didn’t work out?
@@wildmangeorgesrcchannel6916
Maybe he got rich selling a few hundred sets of portals for $100 that cost him at least $20-30 and pro’ly more? Oh wait, that’s only a few thousand dollars over the course of like six months. I don’t mean to be a dick but it’s typically not a good idea to attribute something to malice that can easily be accounted for by ignorance or any number of things that have nothing to do with taking advantage of an unknowing buyer like you. Dude at mofo would pro’ly worn you about the wear and tell you to use them at your own risk, if you asked him. Have a good one man.
@@texomarc what kind of cost would it cut if he has the metal shop. It’s lazy craftsmanship. What would it take for him to mill out a bearing seat? Not much
When is beat the creek! I wanted take my boys if possible and can plan ahead,, plus love to meet ya ! Also that’s in Kentucky isn’t it? Beat the creek?
Yes. It’s next wknd. May 13th thru 15th. We are planning to go on Saturday
Yes. It’s next wknd. May 13th thru 15th. We are planning to go on Saturday
Not really interested in portals but those CV joints DO interest me. It seems the dogbones are the weakest link on the SCX24 platform. Any improvement would be welcome indeed. Matt, your outdoor course looks exactly like the rocks I crawl except my rocks go on for a mile or more on the Atlantic coast. I would be remiss without a HEY to Liam!
Hey buddy have you tried running a 4 or 5 mm hex (Not +4 or 5, total) on those? That would add the 1 or 2mm that you need to tighten the wheels all the way.
Yeah I actually have a couple of those but haven’t installed them. The little rubber o rings work really well. Haven’t had any come loose on me!
@@2fmrc Oh ok, glad to hear that!
@@2fmrc Do you put it in between the wheel and hex or in between the wheel and nut?
@@mr.dillpickle between the wheel and nut
How do you get unmounted hyrax for 1.0 size these days? Do they not sell them anymore? Sweet vid as always.
I’m surprised the mofo portals turned out to be trash. Glad I didn’t waste any money on them I won’t be until they come with bearings
What motor and ESC you got in that.....and beat the creek is like 5 hours away for me I don't know if I can make it ....love the rig man it's awesome bro
Lizard pro and a mofo nano in this one. It’s almost 4 hrs to BTC for us but gonna make the ride!
@@2fmrc sweet man same thing I'm running in my Chevy....but I got a ugly af chassie I was gonna buy a set of those portals and I went with a 2nd set of mofo I wish I would have got those now
Hello from southeast alaska do you have any stickers for my rock crawlers?
What’s up?!!! I definitely need to try to get some stickers made up. I have a few that I made myself but they aren’t the best lol
love your youtube vibesos
Thanks! I really appreciate that
So did you end up putting the overdrive gears in
I run overdrive in the front of all of mine. Usually the treal 23%
amzn.to/3HQP2HM
Oh so this got me curious, since I can only get those form Aliexpress where I live, if I were to order a set which version would I get? Dog bone or cvd one, we all know how sketchy Ali listings are.
Also could you do some shots of “before and after” type of deal where it show how much they lift the truck and widen it. Body on my truck already sits on lowest position possible with 3d printed mounts and I couldn’t lower it much more.
Do they sale the CVD version on AMAZON,,,couldn't find them
I assume they are all gonna be cvd versions now. Not sure but I’m gonna ask! I’ll let ya know
Good customer service is good. But the best customer service is the kind you never need. Give your product free to guys like this to put through the real world, removed from the manufacturer environment.
How do those Hyrax do in the Treal wheels. The bead has been slipping out regularly on my brass wheels and I'm trying to come up with a solution or replacement.
I have 2 sets mounted up with them and they do fine. I did install some Flubberstufferz 3D foams in one set and they would slip. Put the stock foam back in and they were fine.
I been hearing of out put spindles being to short and wheel nut being to tight
Yeah, honestly with all the other axle options we have now I wouldn’t even consider these
More Liam required.
are you guys with rc4wd portals seeing that your SUSPENSION rides higher when driving?
I’ll be receiving the rcawd portal axels soon was wondering other than checking for grease the portalled axels come completely set up all I have to do is take stock axels off and put these on? A little new to the rc stuff basically curious how hard this swap will be any help appreciated..
Would blue lock tight work on those pins? Also what is the product #? Cheers
Maybe a little glue. They don’t actually tighten down or anything. They just rest inside there. Should be tight enough they won’t come out but they managed to slip out. Which part # you need? Most everything is in the description but I’ll get ya whatever!
@@2fmrc Awesome, thanks Matt. Ive been waiting to find something like this. I dont want to buy something then it brake a week or 2 later. Then wait a month on shipping to replace a part ect. Really enjoy your content. Your real an 90% of other rc channels just trying to push their products. Also have you tried the hr internal spring shocks on that rig by chance?
@@rcpatienceraw9751 I just got a set of the internal spring shocks for the bronco actually. They aren’t the hot racing ones but I think they are all the same basically just branded different. I wanted them so I could run the spring on the other side of the piston basically to have them pulling the truck down. The weight of the axles will give it flex when needed but otherwise it’ll be pulling the truck down on inclines. I run my desert lizards that way on the 1/10s. Just not any internal shocks that are really long enough to tune for these small trucks lol
@@2fmrc thats what i was going to mention on it will pull the front of your rig down to center of gravity. The hr are 23mm other company's are 26mm. The higher the mm the less degree incline.
Now that you’ve had this for about 5 months, what are your thoughts on these axles?
Now that we have the Fcx24 axles there is no way I would pay the price for these. I ended up breaking several of the cvds on these before selling them. For the price of these I would definitely spend just a little more and get the entire Furitek cayman chassis kit with the fcx24 axles. I haven’t broke any cvds on those yet with several months use on multiple trucks. They are definitely the only way I’d run portals at this scale. I’ve honestly started replacing all of my scx24 axles (even straight) with them because they are so good. Much more wheel speed than the worm gears and the axles are much stronger with a better turning radius. Hope this helps!
furitek.com/products/furitek-cayman-barebone-carbon-fiber-kit
I’m so glad I asked I will turn my attention to the fcx24 axles!! Thank you!
@@loganbeard9423 yeah they are quite a bit wider than a stock Scx24 axle but we usually widen the scx24 anyway. They take some work to get mounted up to an Scx24 but I’ve done it on most of mine at this point and that’s the reason that Furitek came out with the Cayman really. Just to make it easier if someone wants the scx24 transmission and fcx axles.
Ok right on that’s good to know. I got a ultra4 sledgehammer chassis off Etsy that is pretty sweet so I won’t need the full chassis although I’ll definitely be saving that link for a potential future build. Does FMS make those axles? They’re cheap! I’ll have to check out some videos on the install process to see how it goes in.
@@loganbeard9423 yes that kit includes the fms axles. The fms axles themselves are super cheap! Another reason I love them so much lol
shrsl.com/3oc5z
Hi. May i ask what direction these axles spin? Would it be possible to use only for the rear? Or it spins the other way then stock. Thanks
Yeah they would spin opposite if using these for the rear only. I have a build that I’m running rear portals with straight fronts. You have to use the panda portals for that because the worm gears for them are cut the opposite direction. That or make the worm gears out of the panda fit the scx24 portals which will take some work because the panda worm gears have a much larger output shaft and require a larger bearing inside the axle than the scx24 axles will allow.
@@2fmrc thanks again. I think i will just get the whole panda portal axle and then use a dremmel for the worm end to fit the drive shaft. Is that what you did too?
Also is the panda spins the same speed as stock scx24 axle? Or any slower?
Hey I think my ESC went out in my Gladiator. What would you recommend I do? And what all would I need to get my truck running again?
furitek lizard + cheap/compact receiver. furitek makes a tiny one
Call horizon and they should warranty it. Back ordered though
What's the best way to contact rcawd? I've sent 2 emails with no response. Bought a set of their portals and having issues on the first run. Thanks
Yeah the very next time I ran these I had issues. I honestly don’t know how to get in contact with them besides email. They’ve sort of stopped sending me things after I made my issues public lol
@@2fmrc appreciate the heads up. Bummer for them, good way to lose customers and money.
