It's not often mentioned that the musicianship we see most of the time is at the elite level. This makes it tiresome to plunk along for 3 years 😅 Nice points well made thanks Gabe, thanks for taking the time, it's heartening at beginner/intermediate level to get some down-to-earth encouragement. May real fruit ice-creams come your way.
Yes, you couldn't have said it better myself... LOL. Adding to what you said about practicing switching rolls to enhance a basic backup into a solo, if I get lost in the song somehow I have a tendency to use forward rolls that start on the low D string on backup and then when the solo comes and *I got nothing* I'll switch to a backwards roll that starts on the high D string - so it is a much brighter sound (higher tones at start of the roll) and differentiates the *solo* from the backup.
Great lesson Gabe! You removed some of the fear of taking a break. As always wonderful to hear you play!
Awesome, this is great information. I have passed at jams so many times because I didn’t know to do just rolls.
Thanks Gabe! That was very helpful and you explained it just the right way for me to understand
Great lesson Gabe!!!
