A taser has two probes. The electrical charge goes down the first probe and jumps across to the second probe. This is what creates the electrical shock. A defibrillator does the same thing but at probably a higher voltage to jumpstart a heart that has stopped. If a second probe is not present, then the electrical charge goes into the ground. As in the ground we walk on.
