Precisely. And no matter how egregious the behavior of law enforcement is shown to be, no matter how many times we see it, or in how many videos, there will always be the callous trolls who defend each and every police action, each and every time. We will not have to dig deep here to find several defenders of the blue who'll swear she was violently resisting, ignoring legal commands, belligerent and -their favorite- "if she had just complied." Then, one day, they may get to live the saying "Back the Blue until it's you." And then, of course, it'll be late. Police reform cannot come too soon to this country. The police are neither equipped nor trained to deal with people with disabilities or mental problems. In fact, with police or sheriff's academies providing about 12 weeks of training to their recruits before they are officers with the right of life and death over the population, the increased militarization of police forces throughout the U.S., and the almost total unaccountability of police officers for their mistakes, abuses of power, and crimes, things will not improve but worsen considerably.

This whole trespass idea is something I've never come across in England or Australia where I have spent the past 76 years. Watching YT videos shows it is a big thing in America. Here, in Australia where I am now, I spent many years as a security guard and we would politely escort somebody off the premises. A nightclub bouncer might use more force but they would lose their licence if they were too heavy-handed. Sure we might call the police but not usually. And they would normally not ask someone to leave unless they were being troublesome. Seriously, I just don't get it.

It was explained to her clearly as she had turned her hearing aids back on to normal at that point but she didn't want to hear it and caused a commotion. only then was she told she wouldn't be flying with Alaska air that day and was asked to leave. Her refused caused the cops to get involved who then tried to talk to her about it and get her to leave. once she refused they had no choice but to arrest her.
She can't sue the airlines for anything at all. And she'll have to provide evidence that the cops injured her before she can sue for that.

Their job is to get trespassers to leave. she refused that that is the ONLY reason she was arrested. Had she walked away this would not have happened. She's been on this planet for 70 years and should have known better.
And STOP calling her "disabled". She was hard of hearing and could community perfectly well with the hearing aids she had on. The only time she couldn't hear properly was when she missed the announcement. She later turned them back to normal volume and spoke to the ticket people AND could hear the cops explain things to her just fine UNTIL she shut them off in front of the cops. that is when they had to arrest her. Thank you for the ableist comment about "6 to 7 police, facing a distress elderly disable person." I will remember that being deaf or hard of hearing makes me and my family unable to be a threat to people. What about the elderly Navy SEAL who is hearing impaired or deaf? Do they also pose no threat to "6 to 7 police?" Her behavior warranted "6 to 7 police" and it would be improper for them to make decisions like:
      1. A 27 year old fit Navy SEAL who just got back from offing a terrorist cell warrants "6 to 7 police" but,
      2. A 70 year old woman with a hearing impairment doesn't
What if granny is a former CIA agent who traveled the world assassinating people? It's not the "person" that determines the nature of the response instead it's the nature of the incident. She was disturbing the peace in a highly sensitive area and the proper response is to send multiple officers to respond to belligerent persons in an airport. It would be wrong if they sent 1 person and granny was a former CIA officer who takes them down, grabs their gun and starts killing people who called police on her and other passengers because her dementia riddled mind brings her back to her "good old days" as a CIA agent and she thinks she's being attacked by enemies of the United States and is saving the country. As she goes down in a "blaze of lost glory" she believes she is experiencing than everyone can wonder how "granny could have been so skilled and lethal." Then would we be talking about how 1 officer was enough or would we ask why only one officer was sent to deal with a belligerent passenger at an airport which resulted in a high body count?
You are making ableistic and ageist comments that are not supported anywhere. If police would send "6 to 7 police" to handle a belligerent 250 lb MMA fighter than they should do the same for "granny" with a hearing impairment because there is no way for them to know that the 250 lb MMA fighter is more of a threat than a 130 lb granny.

Also, I still believe it doesn't seem right for anyone to do so hard on deaf people. Didn't you notice that the old deaf lady was confused and terrified, so something was wrong with you and those police officers in that video? Those people ignored what the old deaf lady was doing; she was at peace. She did not do anything wrong... but if they wanted to say something to her first place with an interpreter, they didn't do it; all they did was force her and break her arm for what? Also, I disagree with what they did to deaf people and disabilities people; they should take time and try to understand that we might have done something wrong or at the wrong place or at the wrong time, but there is no excuse for those people do to us without talk in the first place!

if you saw the actual bodycams you will see she caused this by her own actions so she certainly knew exactly what she was doing... she's 70 not stupid.

The think you don't know is that SHE was 100% in the wrong. She missed her flight because she didn't hear the announcement. (it happens to lots of people). She went to Delta and Delta arranged a ticket on Alaska Air for a later time that day. She later WANTED an earlier flight but the Alaska Air people couldn't change a ticket purchased by Delta. Delta would have to do that. She was TOLD that but instead blew up and acted like a child which got her removed from the Alaska Air roster also. She was asked to leave but refused and even turned her hearing aids off when the cops were trying to politely get her to leave. She refused that THAT is what got her arrested. I think you would find much more support for the airline employees, the police, and the jail if you could exclude those facts.
Yes, some elderly people can be difficult. Some people with disabilities use them as an excuse to get away with nonsense. None of that justifies broken bones and denial of medical care.
That jail should have immediately sent her to a proper hospital for evaluation. It's a fairly well known fact that many elderly women have osteoporosis. It should have been obvious to any intelligent person that despite her behavior it would be better to err on the side of the angels and get her real medical treatment.
The publics' complaint that law enforcement is drunk on power is the real issue here.
You really expect people to believe that a couple big, strong, young men had to use so much force on that little old lady they broke her arm to control her? This is just a power issue - an "I don't respect you as a human being and I don't care what your problem is - do what I say or I'll hurt you" attitude. And the jail compounded it "punishing" her for having issues. Another attitude of "give us a difficult situation and we'll make you suffer for it" situation.
This is NOT how we expect law enforcement to behave. The very nature of the job means you are going to be dealing with people with problems. If you're incapable of having a mature attitude, incapable of rising above petty revenge or downright torture when faced with these people you need to find another job.
There's no good reason why that elderly woman's arm was broken, or why she didn't get medical care for 3 days. It's petty, immature behavior. We have every right to expect better from those in authority positions.
