  • In this episode I check the main bearing clearances on a engine without bearing caps but which uses a Bed Plate instead.
This makes the bottom end extremely strong as the block splits in half instead of using separate bearing caps.

    25 in-lbs or 25 ft-lbs on the 10 crank bearing bolts?

I would imagine 25 Ft-Lbs but without reading the book I could not tell you. I may look later.

Yes inch pounds but I may be forgiven for saying the wrong thing. I believe your the second person to pick up on it well done.

I did check my build notes and did write it down correctly so just a slip of words.

I just installed my bedplate yesterday to 25 ft-lbs + 90 degrees, only to read the specs later that it should be 25 In-Lbs.

      25 In-Lbs= 2.0833333325 Ft-Lbs, seems like a very low torque to me.

very time consuming but very important step process for a good running, longevity engine!

Yes it feels like a waste of time doing it twice but better to be safe then sorry.

that is for darn sure! more time spent in the building process is cheaper in the long run and engine will last longer is a plus!

Mind you this is only a budget repair. I am trying to proof that you do not need to rebuild the whole engine if you spin a bearing. I hear so many times people are told " You need a new engine" but this repair is well under 1k.
In fact I could do it for under $500 but I'm not stinging on parts :-)

that is right! all people want to do in the parts store is try to sell you a new engine. like you money is tight and don't want to send any more than one has to!

Did you read Ben Rosset comments and my reply?

@@BuiltByRik I did not, I came here because it didn't seem correct saying 25-in lbs. Was thinking I had a misprinted repair manual!
