Beware the leaches. Once they find out you can work on cars, they'll be coming out of the woodwork looking for free labor.

I didn't exactly hear it was a bad job. Though, when we were doing job survey tests in school, my suggestions were all fabrication, automotive, and mechanical related. I just laughed it off saying, "naw I'm going to go to college and get a job from whatever I study there." Fast forward, and i didn't like college or many of the jobs I've had other than just liking to work. I'm constantly digging into my car and gaining knowledge about function and repair work on a few different vehicles. I am going to try to apply at some shops that will let me work while I get schooling and certification. I love this stuff.

When is crankshaft polishing appropriate? is it every time you replace the bearings or only when you can see and feel scratches on your nails and fingers or no shine at all? isn't the smoothness and relatively smoothness the most important thing?

If 20w 50 is being used with old bearings....and then the bearings are replaced should I go back with 10w 40 or 30 with the new bearings? Would 20w50 cause a circulation problem if an engine has new bearings?

Good video man. So what is advised to use to check clearance of the bearings, plastiguage reassembled and torque to spec then recheck? Or is there a more precise way? How to find the tolerances for a vehicle or tq specs to do this process? And on say performance engines do these tolerances need to be changed if say you add about 400 whp more than it already has over stock? Sorry for the many questions but seems like you know what your talking about.

When u say low oil pressure, will that be always or just at idle? I have low oil pressure at idle but if I keep a rev at 1k on the tach, it goes away. But no oil light above 1k just at idle.

Hello my engine when it warms up and about 30 min the engine starts to lose oil pressure slowly after about 60 minutes I have to turn off the engine because then the oil pressure becomes critically low, but when the engine cools down I get the oil pressure back or when I accelerate in neutral gear the oil pressure comes back at high rpm, I wonder if it could be the oil pump or motors worn in the cam bearings? to give more info the engine is not leaking oil and the pressure on the cylinders is quite good, the engine temperature is also good

Hey, i wanted to ask. I got aluminium in my oil filter only. I went to change rod bearings and found that they look like brand new. There also was no metal in oil or pan, only in oil filter. Is it likely my oil pump is giving up? It looks scored. I didnt check main bearings tho, but when rod bearings looks good, mains should be good too as rod gets oil from main, right?

Car idle with no knocking sound. When rev to 2500 RPM and starts the ticking sound. Around 3000 RPM ticking sound stops. Oil is clean, and headers and clearances have been checked. Last I recalled was car run out of oil and this sound started thinking of pistons

Ok so my understanding is that the main bearing is just like a seat cushion. To me i still don't see why it would cause an engine to stop running if all it is is just a cushion to rests between the piston and the journal. Like i dont see why its important and why it will cause an engine to fail can someone help me understand please?

Hello sir,My main bearing got jammed within a week of servicing.
New engine oil was put after servicing.
And when the engine oil was removed it was tar black within a week of adding.
The car was hardly driven 5kms..
Was the engine oil of bad quality probably?
Because no such issue was there earlier
    Kindly reply

My dad thinks he can drive with bad main bearings forever😡 He won't let me take the engine out of the car for a full rebuild😡
I took the oil pan off and the connecting rod bearings just have minor stuff from recirculating shavings from the mains but they are definitely not the source of the knock.

Many different motors. Usually if the main bearings are worn out so are.the rods. When the mains wear out often times the rod will.starve for oil. The one thing that usually holds up is the main bearings.

I have a 1974 carb-converted Porsche 914-4 that came to me with grossly contaminated engine oil; the drained oil looked had a white 'mocha' coffee appearance when I removed it...evidence to me that some unknowing person had perhaps pressure-washed the engine bay and the dual Weber carbs entrained water into the oil sump. The engine has a low sort of variable 'rumbling/grinding' sound that suggests to me that it may have sustained main engine bearing damage from being run with that contaminated oil. Does this sound like a reasonable hypothesis? Is it possible to accurately confirm or rule-out main bearing damage other than a tear-down for direct inspection, if there doesn't appear to be any metal shavings in the oil and the oil pressure seems to be within normal limits? A 914 engine main bearing replacement procedure would be EXPEN$IVE, needless to say... Thanks. Excellent instructional video, by the way!
