You know there are about 42 billion recipes on the web, and you can buy all the stuff in shops, right? I cook things I bought and eat them, and I'm not sold on these 'restaurant kits' that allow restaurants to sell their food without all the overheads. OK so they drop two quid off the portion price and people think they're getting a bargain. But then they have to do all the work themselves. Nice little sting, restaurants. Also, wtf with all this 'support the hospitality industry'? All the hospitality industry has ever done for me is overcharge me for everything I've ever consumed, and now they want to be treated like nurses? GTFO. It's not hospitality when you're paying for it, that's just commerce. The restaurant business is hospitality like one step down from the Red Wedding.
Restaurants’ DIY kits are a wonderful idea! You get to enjoy the delicious food in the safety of your home, while getting a sense of accomplishment for cooking that meal by yourself and helping your local restaurants to stay afloat. It’s too bad that restaurants in my country are not doing any of these things. There’s also, of course, the issue of pricing. Right now I’m trying to make the most with what I have, which is considerably less than a year ago, doe to the pandemic. I’m not sure I could afford a restaurant kit, which is too bad.
Great stuff you can get from any Korean restaurant is _kimbap._ It's Korean picnic food, so it's served cold, travels well, and you don't need chopsticks to eat it. Plus, since it's seaweed and rice around a filling, there's all manner of combinations you can find. My personal favorite is a barbecue sauced grilled Spam with kimchi radish and stir-fried burdock. Lovely stuff.
Exactly. So when they say that 8 quid for a burger is not bad, they forget that that is pretty much what you pay at Nando's. There is no comparison between what they made and Nando's lol.
@@Karma-qt4ji honestly, I think it goes the opposite way, they're praising a chef-designed kit for being the same price as your nandos, while being much higher quality
@@artekfrost You have missed my point completely. What I was saying is that if you pay 8 quid for Nando's, then 8 quid for each of these burgers is an absolute bargain. They say it is "not bad" but I was pointing out that you can only get a single shitty Nando's burger for that price.

I've tried the Cote meal kit with my family and it was absolutely delicious!! 4 of my family had Chateaubriand steak with fries and a side of veg, and then I had the prawn linguine with my dad. We also had garlic bread to start and chocolate crepes for dessert and I think for the 6 of us it came to about £90, which I didn't think was horrific for a really filling 3 course meal from a nice restaurant! We've paid that much for a takeaway from our lock Indian before - would highly recommend!
Bacon naan and chai order for the start of December... I cant wait. These video have been my favourite thing to watch recently! I'd love to see more of these.
I love these videos so much - thank you for the continuing and excellent content, as always! I'm wondering if the boys might possibly do a video on Iranian/Persian cuisine; from their previous excursions and preferences (e.g. their trip to Dubai, the Irani restaurant in this video), I really think they will enjoy Persian food and the culture behind it immensely!
You know what would be interesting? There are a ton of grocery delivery options in the UK. With the situation we are in, a review of a few of them might be nice. Maybe give the normals a £20 budget, and have them buy ingredients to make a meal. You can then check for things like delivery speed, availability of choice, order accuracy and ingredient quality, and see which one is the best.
There is a "fancy" grocery store chain (The Fresh Market) that makes a family meal kit for $20 they change it up every week they give you a main and sides for 4 people sometimes the include dessert. Last time we got it it was gourmet burgers (we chose bacon cheddar ones), cheese, buns and cold salad (i.e. pasta salad or potato salad...). Its a way to show people stuff from all parts of the store: buns from bakery, meat from the butcher, salad from the deli counter.

I made some deep-fried chicken thigh burgers a couple of weeks ago that was absolutely magical. Me and my cousin overate to the point that we almost needed help getting out of the sofa, it was amazing. Made a tempura seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika powder, cayenne pepper and chili flakes. Deep-fried some potatoes in two rounds as well, first on lower heat then finished them on 175°C after the chicken thighs were done.
Ok, so when I visited London the first time, I had as a goal to visit Dishoom, and I loved it so much I ended up visiting them TWICE. First for lunch, second time to get that sweet, sweet chai. The second I saw this kit I kinda just started to cry in my soul. I can smell the chai. This is like a specialised hell specifically aimed to torment me.
I've got an idea for a pass it on. Go in the order Ben, Jamie, Mike, Berry, James. No one else knows what the theme is except the first person. Have the theme be "Do nothing, but grab flour.." And see just see what happens. See what the normals come up with.
Really enjoy these DIY kit reviews guys, thanks for this. Please do some more in the future - even if a london restaurant, so long as it ships, please cover!

I feel like something that should be remembered with these kits is that you would pay a similar amount or more for a frozen/prepackaged dinner kit at the supermarket. So for a simple dinner that supports local in the process, it's pretty great.
The Spicery is based in Bristol (UK) and is an organisation I'd recommend, it does some delicious spice blend meal kits from around the world. They make super affordable and interesting gifts which I think delivers across the UK and they work with a refugee charity to help integrate them into a new society which is pretty cool
My city is really good with using other local shops to supply their restaurants. For example, all of the restaurants worth their salt use the local bakery for all of their bread. And seeing these kits, and seeing the brioche buns. All I could think about was our local bakery.
This is awesome! Maybe the normals should come up with their own DIY kit, then give it to the chefs (but masked as a PROFESSIONAL food DIY kit) and have them review it, then at the very end the normals reveal it was theirs all along!
A way to combat the plastic waste is to try doing delivery the Korean way. They deliver the food in regular bowls or platters with metal cutlery in distinct bags or boxes. When you finish the food, you wrap up the dishes and cutlery in the bag/box and leave it outside your door and they pick it up a few hours later by the delivery people, no washing up needed! Some things will need to be taken care of by you, like wrappers/foils/cardboard boxes, but those are usually more recycle friendly than any plastics.

@@nicktheanticlause1313 Interesting. Were you shipping Mike and Grace since forever?
@@PokhrajRoy. No, I try not to ship normal people. (I say TRY not to even though I do, but at the time I didn't know the SORTed crew well enough to ship them with Grace or Mamrie... I was probably shipping Grace and Hannah though...cause who hasn't shipped Grace and Hannah...)
@@nicktheanticlause1313 I see.
There's also Jamie's mystery night in which Barry was knocked out by rum lol
wrt recycling, the takeaway boxes are great for freezing portions, also soaking pulses, beans, etc. They last for ages. The more flimsy plastic pots like those you get mushrooms in can be used for mise en place, cat water bowls, herb water bowls. You can reuse salad boxes for salad, prawn boxes for toiletries when travelling, etc. They don't last forever but they're definitely not single use.
Can't wait for the new kitchen lads. How you manage to produce the quality of food you do, considering that you have (let's be honest) a crappy old electric cooker, is amazing.
I know. I’m always praying they get a gas range at least.
Lots of people, like me, don’t have a gas range and cook on electric. It’s good to see chefs cook good food using common home equipment.
@@anne-marie9842 I agree, and I'm in the same boat. But I think they deserve an upgrade after all these years. It amazes me how they do the ultimate battles whilst all having to share the same oven and hobs.
Frijoles borrachos are definitely one of my favorite sides! So so good
“Flipping heck you made a calzone” I’m dead 😂😂😂😂
Thanks guys since we are back in lockdown here in Ontario Canada its back to our own restaurant box's and ordering... Thanks for putting a smile back on my face..♥️
Anyone else realize you're only a few minutes from a new Sorted video and just sit there waiting?
Thank you soooo much Sorted, for all the new content, and the old; you've kept all your fans sane by publishing so much new content every week! We all love you and appreciate all the hard work gone into bringing us these lovelies! Thank you 🥰
Ooh, I’m loving this series! I can already tell this is going to be good, keep it up!
I save extra containers and use them to portion out and freeze homemade stock. I can also use them for giving food to family.
Ah these are great things I'd be getting for Christmas either for gifts or for myself. I want to be a baker, I'm great at making bread and I love making it but I want to get better at other things aswell
This me but with cakes
I have made classic bread rolls and a babka - soda bread is my next venture lol
Trying to bake alongside bake off and failling cos of a sheer lack of time 😂
Edit: I'm not saying that I find it difficult or anything it's just having the time, ingredients and effort at the same time that is hard
@@janani1826 Don't be scared of Soda bread it's easier than you think. If you can't find buttermilk sour normal milk with lemon juice.
@@nat3007 oh lol I'm not whoops didn't realise it sounded like that.
I'm in my final year of school (year 13) so I just have a lot on ugm?
Also I make my own buttermilk lol (make my own butter)
@@janani1826 good luck I remember the stress of that.
Love the support you lot give small businesses really wholesome
Just in time for christmas! These are great gift ideas.
I love you guys. You make me happy when im really sad. Your videos are like my comfort food. Love you guys please keeping all of us happy❤️
Whenever I hear 'a group of mates', my brain translates it to 'your group of mates'. And yeah, yeah you are all my group of mates! 🥰😁
Ben's little dance at 4:10, very, very relatable (might have danced in restaurants myself...)
I've just eaten, however, looking at these delicious restaurant kits I'm already hungry again.
I got the Philly cheese steak one from the last ep. Expensive but very good. Hot wings were great too.
Oooooh nice!!! We're glad you enjoyed it :)
The local restaurants aren't your local McDonald's, KFC, Burger King, Nando's or taleaway.
@@Karma-qt4ji Nandos chicken is really poor quality.
@@artekfrost You have missed my point completely. What I was saying is that if you pay 8 quid for Nando's, then 8 quid for each of these burgers is an absolute bargain. They say it is "not bad" but I was pointing out that you can only get a single shitty Nando's burger for that price.
@@SamuriLemonX18 I know. Read my statement again, then read my comment to @artekfrost. I was saying exactly what you are.
Had that bacon nan roll the other day got it as a bday present and was absolutely class I loved it haven’t seen what you thought off it yet but probably loved it as well ✅ keep up the amazing content guys really love all the videos
I deeply felt everyone's collective chai sigh.
Sorted eating food I’ve actually tried made me very excited! The marinade on that jerk chicken is insane. The scotch bonnet chilli jam was also super tasty. The buns were a little hard, but overall good!
“I have a gift for you It’s under the cloche” Ah yes,I missed Jamie’s songs
I've tried the Cote meal kit with my family and it was absolutely delicious!! 4 of my family had Chateaubriand steak with fries and a side of veg, and then I had the prawn linguine with my dad. We also had garlic bread to start and chocolate crepes for dessert and I think for the 6 of us it came to about £90, which I didn't think was horrific for a really filling 3 course meal from a nice restaurant! We've paid that much for a takeaway from our lock Indian before - would highly recommend!
I would love this, but there aren't any restaurants i know that do this over here in the netherlands
Bacon naan and chai order for the start of December... I cant wait. These video have been my favourite thing to watch recently! I'd love to see more of these.
Fried chicken and no Mike? That's like having a steak video without Jamie
You can then check for things like delivery speed, availability of choice, order accuracy and ingredient quality, and see which one is the best.
bump
There is a "fancy" grocery store chain (The Fresh Market) that makes a family meal kit for $20 they change it up every week they give you a main and sides for 4 people sometimes the include dessert. Last time we got it it was gourmet burgers (we chose bacon cheddar ones), cheese, buns and cold salad (i.e. pasta salad or potato salad...). Its a way to show people stuff from all parts of the store: buns from bakery, meat from the butcher, salad from the deli counter.
Jamie is my spirit animal. "Says 4 but never believe the package"
Wow top videos as always. Been following you guys from 2011 and you guys have been changed my life forever. I live in a deep southeast asian country and would never know what a bechamel or roux or custard and etc is, if you guys didn't make any videos. So thank you for all that years and knowledge, keep up the good work!😁
"Chilli jam"
*Uncle Roger left the chat*
HAIYAAAAAA !!
I think all three mentioned some sort of chili jam. Is that just a British thing?
Haiyaaaaa...
Haiyaaa, WHAT IS CHILLI JAM?
Tomato chilli jam??? Us that just spicy ketchup??
Really interesting video - just bought the Dishoom Bacon Roll kit as an early Christmas present for my brother-in-law! Excited for him to try it :D
Yep, reuse. I reuse "single" use grocery bags as trash bags.
Wish we could do that here in Germany, but where I live we can't even use the Trashbags from 2019 in 2020 or from 2020 in 2021 even if we have like half a role left; the stuff won't get picked up but instead get a sticker saying "I couldn't go because: [Reason]"
Used litter. I couldn't have a cat without them.
@@marymaryquitecontrary
Until all our cats died, cat litter went in them the most.
I'm here for Barry's turtleneck.
Love how it says sprinkle from a hight for even spread and I call that spread from the heavens for even delight
Jamie didn't grill his tortillas - you're missing out.
That was my thought too!
Microwaving tortillas is blasphemy
Gotta say once i tried putting them on an exposed hob flame to char them...ive never gone back to microwaving
Same thought I had.
Grilling is so much better for corn tortillas. Flour tortillas are better for the microwave.
That last one had me drooling. I love chicken. And that burger looks smashin.
Next time, warm the tortillas on a med high griddle. The texture is more authentic and has a different flavor.
The taco looks good and so colourful
You know it's good when Ben goes, "OOOOOOO", and bad when he goes "Ohh".
Barry looked like the he was terrified of the naan 🤣
Thanks Jamie for addressing the plastic with very good points 👍
"The traditional naan shape". But will the universe implode if you call it "naan-standard"?
Wow, those are really good! Good value, good food, easy preparation.
I've got an idea for a pass it on. Go in the order Ben, Jamie, Mike, Berry, James. No one else knows what the theme is except the first person. Have the theme be "Do nothing, but grab flour.." And see just see what happens. See what the normals come up with.
I was so happy when you used James Cochran’s meal kit. I loved him on Great British menu and he’s on the Christmas version too. He’s a great chef!
Did Jamie pick the song that played while he was building the tacos? Because it sounds like a song he would pick. :)
I may be completely wrong, but it sounds like Mike
@@Laura_Norda So Mike singing and Jamie's lyrics? :)
Really enjoy these DIY kit reviews guys, thanks for this. Please do some more in the future - even if a london restaurant, so long as it ships, please cover!

I never do DIY, but man can I watch. Lucky for the ones in London who can order
What’s up with the saturation on your camera? That avocado was BRIGHT green. (The lettuce and cilantro/coriander too)
maybe it's just the lighting they use? Or how they colour grade the videos after?
I thought the same thing! Almost cartoon like. If it’s not the lighting I need to find better avocados.
The tacos were definitely the best ones. They looked AMAZING
The only thing I dislike about these videos is I live in NYC and can't order these amazing kits!
But you have amazing places in NYC. Neither my town, nor the surrounding places, have much above chains and burgers. Or really overcooked pasta.
I'd imagine that NYC has even more diverse options.
