I seem to be having difficulty following how to have my domain (hosted somewhere else) point to my AWS static page. I followed your instructions using the alias option, but it still doesn't see it. Am I missing a step? Do I need to do something at my domain registrars DNS settings? Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words, Erich, and sorry for the slow response! 😊 Were you able to get this working? Yes, you'll need to make updates at your registrar. They're all a little bit different, but this article provides a good overview if you're still looking for help: www.linkedin.com/pulse/pointing-third-party-registrar-aws-route-53-guilherme-renkel-wehmuth
I followed same steps in Route 53. But still my application is not mapped in Route 53. I am able to run my application by elasticbean URL and IPV4 but when I create A record in Route 53, and map it with my application's IP or URL, it does not work. What am I missing here ?
Hi Jack! 👋 Apologies...I'm super behind on comments! Were you able to get this working? I wonder if it just needed more time for the changes to propagate?
Love your teaching style A+. Having trouble following the screens as this was recorded 2 years ago. I click on Hosted Zones but I do not see " "quick create record." I actually have my domain purchased and was successful in setting up my website but I'm having trouble verifying the domain and setting up an email as well. I come from a CPanel setup and it was much more streamline. Any 2024 instructions would be helpful thx.
Hi Shamshir! 👋 No, I unfortunately don't have any videos on those topics, but maybe this will get you started? aws.amazon.com/blogs/apn/exploring-architectures-with-cisco-sd-wan-and-aws-transit-gateway/
Awesome video, clear and concise, it gives me confidence that I can do this. My question, which might help others: I've used the "Test Record" feature at the top where the "Hosted zone details" section appears to test out the subdomain, getting back a DNS response code of "No Error" with a green check mark. However, in a Chrome incognito browser, I just get a "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN" message. How long does this take to propagate? Should I just wait 24 hours?
Thanks for the kind words, Ron! 😊 Hmmm...I haven't seen this error myself, but judging from the giant troubleshooting page from AWS, it seems like a common one: repost.aws/knowledge-center/route-53-troubleshoot-nxdomain-responses. (It's strange that you get different messages in Incognito mode??) But for general domain errors I've encountered in the past, waiting does seem to fix the problem a lot of the times. Looks like it's probably been about 24 hours by now, so let me know if that did the trick. Hopefully it'll help someone else too! 💪🌟
@@TinyTechnicalTutorials Thanks for the response, I was able to figure it out. I had originally set up the domain via Lightsail. The fix was to delete everything (related) in Route 53 and then add the records via Lightsail. Hopefully, this helps someone else :-)
Trying to set up a A record with Alias to a Cloudfront. But when selecting CloudFront it automatically selects US East and then puts "An alias to a CloudFront distribution and another record in the same hosted zone are global and available only in US East (N. Virginia)." and my distribution is not showing.
Hi, Route 53 is great, but is it possible to use other providers to do BOTH the functions of registering the domain + domain hosting, especially if we want to use AWS resources like Cloudfront, ELB etc, which typically would have been convenient if we used route 53 to do the domain hosting with the 'alias' feature.
Hi again Praveen! 👋 It's possible to use other providers for domain registration and hosting, but with CloudFront specifically, you'll run into issues because you need to point the apex domain (example.com) from your provider to an IP address, which you can't get for CloudFront (you only get a URL). There are also complications with SSL certificates. So using Route 53 and an alias is a better/easier way to go. Here's a pretty lengthy post that gets to some of the issues: repost.aws/questions/QUersPbB2LQF-FJN6IFfCEKQ/how-can-i-serve-cloudfront-assets-to-a-naked-domain-i-manage-with-a-non-aws-dns-provider
Mam...can't we get free DNS service from Route53 atleast for 1 ip address? If i want to Run my own Web Application thru Fargate/EC2 for 1 week on 24/7 basis with DNS, will they charge me for my EC2 extra excluding DNS $12/yr charge?
Hii please let me know is that possible to register a new domain in Route 53 with aws cli command ? Can you do one video with that??@Tiny Technical Tutoria thr tutorial was helpful. waiting for the replay.
Hi Jyolsna! 😊 I haven't tried registering a domain with the CLI before, but just checked the documentation: awscli.amazonaws.com/v2/documentation/api/latest/reference/route53/index.html. I don't see any obvious command for this, so you might have to use the UI. When you get a domain name, there's a "checkout" flow where you see the $$ amount and such, so maybe that's why you have to use the UI. Thanks for watching...glad the video was helpful!
Heard your voice, and had to see your picture. Done. Perfect match! Your examples were A record and alias, but I was hoping to see CNAME. In any case, I get the gist.
Hi, I have tried this several times but cannot get this work. I created an A record as you demonstrated, also tried with and without a subdomain and status shows in green INSYNC still not working. How do I connect with someone at AWS for support? Any help is appreciated.
Hi Narendra! 😊 For Route 53, you'll be billed based on queries to the domain name (plus some small costs for a hosted zone). Pricing details here: aws.amazon.com/route53/pricing/. But then you'll also pay for the compute power that's running the website (like an EC2 instance or a container).
I really love how you explained the different record types and also how to link to other services.I have a portfolio that l have posted on firebase but l want to link this to AWS so that l can employ code pipeline for my deployments. I already have S3 set up with files l need and the bucket is enabled for static web hosting. How do l connect my bucket to Route53 without purchasing a new domain?
Hi Eliud! 👋 Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. 😊 To your question, where is your domain name currently registered? Is it with Google Domains? You should be able to use an external domain to point to a static site on S3. I actually *just* published an article for a similar project here: www.freecodecamp.org/news/aws-project-build-a-resume/#domain-name-option-2-use-a-domain-name-from-a-third-party-provider. It's not fully what you need, but should help you get started on the Route 53 piece. 🤓
For a domain registered in AWS, do the name servers need to be changed to the ones from hosted zone NS record? (I created the hosted zone manually). Because my domain is pointing to a working elastic IP address, but is not accessible from the browser
Hi Konrad! When you create a new hosted zone, an NS record should be created for you automatically, with values that match "Name servers" in "Hosted zone details." I've never had to edit these myself. I wonder if the issue might be a security group on the instance you're trying to connect to? Check that HTTP port 80 is allowing inbound traffic?
@@TinyTechnicalTutorials thanks for the answer. The issue was, in the end, that my router cached the domain. Everything worked smoothly from the very beginning :)
