I hope Capt is recovering 🙏🏻. They made mention of it at the kick off, lot of people know you guys and the team. Hope he heals up strong and we see you out there next year

@@StanzFamBen definitely put us on the meat as requested! My brother and nephew were down visiting from up north. It's the 3rd most popular sushi after tuna and salmon in restaurants. All I can say is that I wish I knew sooner! AJ's are very underappreciated over here just because of a few harmless worms in the tail area. I would have came by to say hello when I was there but I knew that you were at the Miami boat show that week. Next time for sure. Tight lines! 😊
Depends how far you run, I think we burned about 580 gallons for the 3 days of fishing plus running to and from Palm beach. The year before we burned 750 gallons but ran more
Got shaded once, by 5 pounds, with 5 minutes to go - by crew of ringers, in a 4 engine, 40 foot center console. They won $360K, we settled for $108K. They beat us fair and square. It pays to be young and fast....
Entry fee’s, optional entrees (don’t have to do these but that’s where a lot of the money is), and I imagine some from sponsors. Yamaha has always been the most reliable brand and the biggest brand in our area. I started working with them a little over 8 years ago and have no plans on switching brands. I get a lot more hours with a lot less headaches and maintenance compared to so many of my friends with other brand engines
I had to rewind four times about dog licking your apple. Sounded like you said asshole. lol. But I was like he doesn’t cuss. lol. I swear it sounds like you said that.
This tournament has a max of 20 lb line. We used 16 lb because it fishes out of the kite a little better with less drag. Also casts better on a spinning rod
@@Hjt892 depends on the average size of the fish and the way it fights. Also if you plan on keeping it. But we use anything from 15-80 lb line here on average. If chasing giant tuna 130 lb line is common
What boat do you use and how much does it cost it is my dream to be a professional off shore fisher man and create RUclips videos and I hope that I can be one day
Sea keepers aren’t popular on performance cats. A catamaran is way more stable than a traditional mono hull, plus the sea keeper is one more thing to maintain. There’s a few of them out there with them but the amount of roll reduction is provides doesn’t outweigh the costs/maintenance/breakdown of the after piece of equipment. Maybe in the future if they become more reliable, More compact, and can run off less power we’ll see more of them used on cats.
I wish mates would use the proper technique to release fish (leader cutter) rather than wrapping and ripping... I was an IGFA observer briefly and saw this practice often in Costa Rica. One of the reasons I quit.
I agree with you that a line cutting tool would be best, especially if having an observer on board and not needing the video proof if the observer already saw the fish. Fortunately we just use 30 lb leader so it breaks much easier than 60 lb or whatever they use for sails in Costa Rica
@@davidgraham4807 money definitely isn’t an issue for guys who are spending $50k - $100k + to fish a tournament for a few days. We sold ours gogs for $100 dozen, if we were getting $220 a dozen (all the time, not just when there’s a shortage) we would probably just open a bait business

question, I know you have to grab the leader... but how do you de hook the sailfish so quick, or is that not shown on camera?
We break the leader usually at the knot, so the hook remains in the fish. They are thin wire and rust out over time.
