I've seen several videos of people making hexagonal shelves/furniture. You're the first person I've seen to use tape on the inside of the joints to simplify glue cleanup. Brilliant!
A great build Andy! I see that someone else already pointed out the trapezoid/parallelogram issue so I don’t need to lol! Don’t be so hard on yourself about the measure twice cut once either! We’ve all been there!
That looks really cool but I am actually surprised that the ends are strong enough with just glue. I know the glue is stronger than the wood, I'm just amazed. I would have added dowels or some sort of loose tenons to add strength without showing anything. Your mistake with the top shelf is a great lesson in referential measuring. All three shelves should have been measured and cut AFTER you assembled the hexagons. Even after careful measuring and assembling of the hexagons, there will always be some sort of variation that needs to be adjusted for. For example, you wouldn't have the gap between the two center hexagons if you cut the center shelf to the actual width of the assembled hexagons. My personal preference would have been to angle the ends of the top and bottom shelves to match the adjacent surfaces. Squaring of the bottom might not be so bad, for stability's sake, but the top shelf would look nicer if it were angled to match. Just my opinion, though.
I absolutely agree with everything that you have said. I think a lot of the wonder of this piece is the "floating" hexagons off the side. I have also thought quite a bit about matching the angles on the top and bottom as well. I really appreciate the time you put into your comment and your support.
@@cedarriverwoodworking I'm so sorry it was just killing me a little inside. This project is a great idea and my wife and I have been looking for an entertainment center for a while and I'm pretty sure this is what we will be building. Thanks for the great video again!
@@FreakyClimber0707 Now that you pointed it out, it's kinda killing me too lol. I'm glad that it could be an inspiration. I am currently building one out of cherry and will be testing out a new finish. I'll have a video out on that soon.
🤔Or, one could measure the top after the middle and bottom boards are in place. 😮😅😅 Rarely see the need to over cut too many boards, as the top piece is the least critical, as apposed to the bottom and mid, that create the the basic shelf structure.

Whenever I have an inside corner, I try to use tape. It makes cleanup a lot faster.
Love it brother Andy !! You da man Skål 🫡
Thank you sir! I appreciate the support.
Andy, I have made the smaller hexagon shelf and you just took an idea from my mind and brought it to life and I am going to build this.
I'm glad I could be an inspiration for you.
Very cool looking. Great video Thanks for sharing
Thank you. I appreciate the support.
Good job and project thx for sharing enjoyed it Keep building
Thanks. I appreciate the support.
Really great idea. 👍👍❤...
Thank you so much 😊

Thanks, I'm not super worried about the screw up. I appreciate the support.
Oh yeah. 100% can tell a difference than the other video I commented on about speech pattern. Night and Day difference. Can 100% tell the fluidity. 💪
I appreciate you giving me a second chance. I have thought about re making the older videos to make them feel more fluid. I appreciate the support.

How much would you sell one of these for
I sold one recently made out of cherry for $750. Made out of pine like this, $250-$300 wouldn't be a bad price at all.
plans arent on etsy yet
I'm sorry I forgot to make them live. here they are www.etsy.com/listing/1820350667/digital-plans-on-how-to-make-a-hexagon
Xin chào bạn thật tuyệt vời ❤🎉
Thank you very much.
Measure twice, cuss thrice. 😂 It happens bro.
HAHA! I love that!
Sorry to ve that guy but they are trapezoids not parallelagrams. Maybe there is an inside joke i'm missing. If there is im sorry.
You are absolutely correct. I spoke the incorrect shape.

You're absolutely correct. That's where the referential measurement comes into play.
You should have just trimmed that middle shelf down to size instead of spreading the thing apart and creating that gap.
This is true, but this was a good teaching moment for referential measurements, so I wanted to do that.
You must be Italian cuz you are constantly talking with your hands.😅
Thank you?
Calm Down! I had no intention of building a hexagon floating shelf. They are trashy.
There is no calm here.
