Margret, I been a crocheter for over 35 years and I just love how you explain step by step to others how to crochet and follow along on your tutorials. You are an amazing teacher. Pat yourself on the back, " Your GREAT!!! " Thank you so much.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your tutorial. I'm a beginner who mainly followed RUclips videos because I couldn't understand a written pattern. Well, after this video I understand the abbreviations and I feel a lot more confident.. Thank you so much!!!.. Much love from New Zealand xx
I just found your channel! You are a wonderful teacher and go slow enough for newbies. Thank you!!
Thank you, Ali, and welcome! I love this little hat and congratulations to YOU for attempting it as a newbie! Great job!
Thank you very much for the close ups on your crochet work it really help me to see how you are doing the stitch’s I appreciate your videos
Thank you, Mary! What a nice compliment!
Margaret Olander you’re welcome, have a great week
This is the most thorough explanation of sizing hats. TY!!! Trying to learn so I have hats in my shop for all ages!
It is 10/27/23. And and making scarfs and beanies for children, teens in an orphan for Christmas. This pattern is fantastic. The beanies in various colors came out fantastic. This pattern is now my go to. Form and style are beautiful.
Beautiful... making this tonight .. Thank you!!!
OMG.. I just taught one of my students how I learned to start my work.. not with a slip knot but a very smiling way as you just did... lol. I'll teach her your way too 💥
It's nice to have options; don't you think?! I love learning new tips/tricks/techniques!
Thank you for a wonderful tutorial... it just what I needed for the beanies that I have just started making for my new grandson. You explain everything so well. ❤

I..... LOVE...... THIS!
A beautiful little hat that's quick and easy and ideal for charity donation. Thank you for creating and sharing Margaret. ☺🇦🇺❤❤
Oooo... I love this, too, Karen! (Although to me you'll always be Kaz!)
You are so so understanding of beginner crocheters😀. I really appreciate how you show the work up close, and you explain where to put your hook. Wow💕🧶🌸👒🧣🧤🧦😍🥰💜💜💜
Thank you, Lynne! I assume if you're watching a video, then you need to actually SEE what's going on, right?! Hahaha! Actually, I get so frustrated with myself when the camera goes blurry and I didn't notice because I'm so focused on what I'm doing!
I love the way you took time to explain everything step by step and made it look easy thanks so much for sharing . I can’t wait to crochet a beenie you have inspired me ! 👏👏👍👍✌️
You're a wonderful teacher. I'm an experienced crocheter and still learned something! Your no-slip-knot technique for beginning a foundation is genius! I also like the wainscot stitch. I always love learning a new stitch! I'm glad to have discovered your site and have subscribed!
What kind words to wake up to, Anne! Thank you!
Just now found your channel
Can’t tell you how helpful the hat size and yardage charts are. Hi king of trying this one for my youngest grandchild
I really should proof read. Thinking, not Hi king! 😂
Welcome, Patricia Ann!! Don't worry about the typos and autocorrect... they happen to all of us and we're all getting better at deciphering them! Ha!
I like it this child hat. I am going to make it one for my greatgrand son and adjust for his daddy for matching hats. Liked your video and the way you teach each stitches . Thank you .
I'm so glad you like it, Katharine! Thanks for the kind words!
This is the best crochet tutorial ever. You're really good at giving instructions. Thank you so much.
You're very welcome and thank YOU for the lovely compliment, Jemelle!
Margaret thanks so much for this tutorial I have been crocheting for 50 yrs and never have I seen this stitch wonderful super🤗🌟🌟🌟
Isn't it wonderful to keep discovering new ideas and stitches?! I love it!
I do not understand how someone could thumbs down this tutorial! I have watched hundreds and yours is so soothing and precise and neat, I just love it. Thank you, new subscriber here!
What kind words, C, thank you!
How can I get your printed baby hat “recipes” , 21:33
I don’t know how.
Wow, I’ve never started a project without using a slip knot. Your trick on how to start is amazing for me! It took me several times to get it, and then I did it about 10 to 15 times just for fun because, again, it really amazed me! Thank you for this piece of information! I really like your videos.
It takes a minute to lock the technique into your brain but then it's second nature! I really prefer it to the knot.
I love your clear and patient teaching style!
Thank you, Vannah... you must have a learning style that matches my teaching style! We're all so different but that's a wonderful thing about RUclips... there's something for everyone!
I’m so glad I found your videos. You are such a great teacher. I love your humor and your accent. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge. God bless.
Well, thank you, Miriam! And welcome!!
Very interesting stitch. I've crocheted for many years but never saw this stitch before.
It's not a common stitch, that's for sure! Crocheters who saw my knit version of this hat kept asking for a crochet version but I never could come up with a reasonable facsimile until now!
Thank you for this video and fantastic instructions as well as the hat size guide. I have just made this beanie and it looks beautiful.
You are so welcome! (This little hat is one of my favorites!)
Thank you so very much for the excellent video tutorial! It's so clear and easy to follow and the free pdf pattern is super instructional. By the way our accent is very pleasing to the ear.
After successfully making one following the video in teal and yellow milk cotton yarn, which came out so adorable, I am now going to make more with different patterns from the written pattern in thicker yarn. My first grandson is due in January in Northern California, the winter can be bitter cold there. With all the beanies I will make for him, he would be snug and cozy. Thanks to you sweet lady. 🙏 Subscribed!
Aww... a new baby! What fun! Thanks for the kind words! Thanks for subscribing but just a heads up that I'm not primarily a tutorial channel... more of a yarn-loving vlog channel but I do have a tutorial playlist if you're only looking for that: My Crochet Tutorials: ruclips.net/p/PLV9cndFtR5BWJVUc-dQ277A2lhxmm5zvq
@@sheepishlysharing Thank you for the link to the tutorials!
I meant to say on my previous comment that your accent is very pleasing but I made a typo and typed "our accent" instead. Ooops! 🙊 So embarassed.
You are a great teacher.I will be making one of these hats for each of my grandchildren.
Thanks, Ruth! So glad you liked this little hat as it's one of my favorites!
Oh my lord. I think even I can do this. You really are an excellent teacher. Wonderful tutorial
Of course you can! All crochet stitches are pretty easy... it’s understanding the pattern that can be the tricky part. Wonderful RUclips helps with that part so now you’re all set! Have fun, Sandra!
This a beautiful hat! Watching today, hope to make it soon.
So glad you liked it! Have fun!
Thanks very much for sharing this pattern. I'm an experienced crocheter but never knew the "waistcoat" stitch. Its easy and so pretty.
That stitch was new to me, too! It's not a stretchy as regular crochet stitches but I love the look!
Thank you for the joining first chain stitch. I do like the “no knot” in the beginning. Also making the rib band and finish with wool on the same side when finished.
You are so welcome, Karen! Glad I had something helpful to share!
This is so great Margaret thank you! Maybe now I will be able to make hats much easier with your help. If I can’t it will not be for your lack of extreme effort! This is so detailed I cannot believe it. You help me to think I am capable of doing more. Thanks to your giving heart. The time you put into your channel, and your videos so that they are very easily understood is so very appreciated! Thank you again! ❤️
You're so welcome, Linda! And I really do put some effort into these tutorials because I feel like we're at a disadvantage because we can't interact as we learn. Since you can't ask me a question and get an immediate answer, I'm trying to be proactive! This may be overkill for some so it's really hard to strike a happy medium.
Margaret Olander Your attention to detail is very much appreciated by me. ❤️ Those that are more advanced can take your pattern and run with it. From the point of view of a beginner I cannot tell you how much this helps. I’m going to explain something that may be taken as not nice to say (I hope not) but......I’m almost finished making a cardigan that is tutorial and free pattern on line. It was easy enough because the stitches are only hdc & dc. I have invested a lot of time and yarn on this project but cannot finish it because the sleeves are absolutely not coming out right no matter what I do. I have taken more sleeves apart than I can count. I have watched the video countless times and checked the pattern for accuracy as many times. I just cannot get it to work so finally after weeks of this I have finally put it away unfinished. I’m telling you this story only because this individual does no close ups of her work in the video, nor does she take us step by step with the sleeves at all. She merely says to look at the pattern and that they (the sleeves) are very easy to do as long as you get the increases right. I am doing the increases right. She gives no stitch count for the rows because even the size she made (which btw is the size I was trying to make) she did not go over that because she only made the cuff of the sleeve on camera. Also there are many questions about the pattern (even those that are answered on the video and if everyone would look at the pattern) however of all the many many questions I reviewed I only saw one answer from her and that did not help me. I only say all of this so that you understand how very much your time and attention to detail is so appreciated. In viewing your video I felt as if I was sitting and relaxing right next to you on your couch and watching you do this. Honestly, you made me feel immediately that I can succeed at this! ❤️ Thank you so much for your time Margaret and for your care that you put into your tutorials. Please never feel that they are over kill ever. ❤️😊
Yes... that happens from time to time. Once upon a time, we only had access to purchased patterns in books and magazines. Those have testers and editors that make sure the pattern is written correctly. We still didn't have access to the designer if we had questions but that's just the way things worked! Now is far better for the most part but there is no master editor out there to regulate the quality of patterns. Nor is there a guarantee you'll receive help just because we have a way to reach a designer! I know I get TONS of questions on those Addi machines and while I try to answer each and every one, it's hard. Can you imagine how difficult it is for those big RUclipsrs who have tons of subscribers? I suppose if I ever grew my channel to those proportions I'd have to hire help but you never know what someone's circumstances are. No easy answer!
I love your instructions. Great tutorials for charity donations. Thank you for sharing with us.
You are so welcome and thanks for the kind words, Manon!
Margaret, you are truly inspirational! Your gift for teaching is phenomenal. I have wanted to try this stitch for at least a year now and I was so excited for this tutorial. I’ll post my finished project on Facebook. 😊👍👍
Thank you, Joanna, but I think it's just a matter of your learning style matching my teaching style! Thank goodness for RUclips because there's something for everyone's learning style these days!
I love your patterns and colours you use ,I made a spiked mesh hat for adults it turned out very beautiful, thank you very much for your tutorials
I'm so glad to hear it and thanks for the kind words!
@@sheepishlysharing you are welcome,I appreciate your reciprocation 🙏
Hi, first time watcher here and I love this stitch, first time with this too. I've learned a lesson already that when changing colors to make sure you don't pull the v too tight or it is almost impossible to put hook through. But, I am going to push through it and the next row definitely will be doing looser stitches when changing colors. Thank you for a great video.
Thanks for the kind words, Di, and I'm glad you like this video! One of my favorite little hats!
I love this and you make it so clear. Even a new crocheted could understand your instructions. Thanks for sharing.
What a nice compliment, Sharon! Thank you!
Excellent instructions! Thanks for taking the time to do a detailed instruction on joining the headband. I really like this pattern, too.
You are so welcome, Renee! I'm glad you like this little hat!
Hi Margaret. Such a sweet little pattern for baby and older brother( our Grandsons)will look adorable, 😊Thank you and continued blessings!
Oooo! That DOES sound sweet, Dee! Have fun with that pattern AND those grandsons!
I love this hat in crochet. I loom knit and this way looks like the knit one purl one. I will be making this hat style for my granddaughter. Thank you for your pattern. You are a terrific teacher. I love your style.
On a loom the ribbing around the botton would be the K1,P1 but the design on the hat would only be the knit stitch. You would just alternate the colors to achieve the design! Easy pattern to translate to loom knitting! And thank you for the kind words!
Amazing tutorial, so well written and well explained! Thank you so much! 🙏🏻
Love your video and printed pattern. You are so easy to follow. I crochet baby hats for our childrens hospital.
Thank you from🇦🇺
I'm so glad you liked it, Yvonne! Have fun!
Thanks Margaret. I decrease stitches using your method. I found that looked better than what I used to do.
Agreed! What I was originally taught for the HDC2TOG is too bulky and too tall for HDC.
You are a great teacher explaining each and every thing
I just loved it!
What a lovely compliment! Thank you!
This baby hat is so cute! I'm working on this right now. Love the way you teach the patterns, you are a blessing to me. Love you so much and God Bless you, and keep you, and those you hold dear. Thank you so much! 🌲Isaiah 60:13🌲
What a lovely compliment! Thank you! (And as a follower of Christ, I am blessed everyday, regardless of my circumstance.)
I absolutely LOVE your style! The hats are adorable, the color coded patterns are so helpful to me (I need that!), your attention to detail is amazing and your sweet voice reminds me so much of my younger sister in TN that I never get to see...I dont know why I havent seen your vids before this cuz im already subscribed...but thank you for this video and for doing it with such clarity...even close ups of the stitches! God bless!
What sweet words to wake up to this morning! Thank you, Toby! Just like any big task, breaking down the steps makes it more manageable. For future patterns, if you don't have highlighters (or whatever) handy, just use a pencil and underline the first part, draw dashes under the second part, etc.
@@sheepishlysharing aww good! See what I mean...the underline/dash advice is awesome. Thank you so much!
You are a great teacher, for sure! Thank you.
Well done, as always. You can make a visor using the brim portion and then adding a row of sc around top and bottom edges after joining the two ends together and add a bill using about a third of the center stitches. I love them, and make a new one nearly every summer.
Yes and I love that you're looking at things with a creative eye!
Enjoyed this tutorial..will definitely use your trick on how to start a project with out the knot..love love 💕 this hat and will be making it..thank you again...
I'm so glad you like it, Peggy! And yes... I love my no-knot start. Those knots always bugged me!
I am starting my beanie now and im watching this tutorials..Thank u for the free patterns and free sizeing ..
You're so welcome! Have fun with it!
I absolutely loved this! Watched before I tried then I went along as you did it and I have to say for just beginning crocheting and not knowing a lot, you made it so simple, thank you!! My friends are going to love their shower gift!!
What a nice compliment, Amanda, and extra points for you for attempting it as a beginner crocheter! I definitely wouldn't put it in the beginner category so I hereby elevate your rank! You'll be teaching ME soon!
@@sheepishlysharing you're so sweet ♥️ thank you! I have lots to learn and so thankful for people like you taking your time to show the rest of us!
This is lovely. I really like the way you allow for creativity in your pattern. Thank you very much.
Thank you, Mary! I try to allow for creativity in ALL my patterns because I get bored so easily! (Besides, you never know what kind of scraps you'll have to work with!)
Wow this pattern is so amazing I will definitely use it to crochet a beanie for my baby cousin
Thanks for the kind words, Fatima! Have fun with it!
you explaining was very sweet so the pattern was easy for me great! keep doing many more videos god bless you
Oh, this was my first new stitching like this!! Thank you, your instructions and teachings are excellent!! Thank you so much!!!
You are so welcome, Sharon! And thank you for the kind words!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. You have given me a very valuable lesson on the colour change. I have really been struggling with this. Now I will be able to make some very pretty preemie hats for the local unit ❤️❤️👍😊
I’m so glad you liked it, Juli! And I’m glad I had a helpful tip to share!
Im always looking to make new projects and now I have another one. Thank you for all of the "well put together" instructions in an easy to click link (visible) and pdf file. You are awesome and just for that, you have a new sub.
Thank you, Mari! What a nice compliment!
I love how neat the closure looks., Cute hats.
Thank you, Sandy! I'm so happy with these little hats!
I love the way you teach!!! You have been so helpful ❤️
Thanks for sharing this with us I think you for explaining what WS is in the patterns
You're so welcome, Jeanie! Have fun!
You're version of the 2hdctog looks SO much cleaner than the normal version. I'm going to 100% have to remember that. I have never liked the look of the normal version. I LOVE the way you show in the video!! Thanks Margaret!!
I'm a firm believer that there are no rules in crochet! Find what works for you and run with it!
I l ove learning new ways to do old stitches. Sometimes I use a particular way one one project & another way on a different project. Having a large repertoire of tips & techniques is important in any form of art or craft. Your version of the hdc2tog looked great, like it fit right in. I can't wait to try it! Thank you for sharing.
EXACTLY, Nancy! I love how you said that you may vary your technique from project to project. Part of what I love about this hobby is making creative decisions to improve or change a look. The way I was taught to do a HDC2TOG was too tall and bulky to stand in a row of regular HDC.
You are a wonderful teacher! Thank you for the detailed information. So happy to have found your tutorial.
You are so welcome and thanks for the kind words!
Thank you for your thorough explanations! Very helpful for a beginner like me!
You're very welcome, Denise! And this was definitely not a beginner project so you much be really good at this! Great job!
I loved learning the knit stitch! I love how you get out that trusty, marked up measuring tape too.
Ah, yes... old supplies are like old friends! You can definitely count on them! Glad you had fun with this video!
I’ve never heard of this stitch! Thanks for being a great teacher! I’m sooo glad to have another crochet tutorial from you! Also happy you are feeling well enough to do one !🙏
You are so welcome and thank you for always being so supportive of my little endeavors!
Margaret Olander Awe! Thank you!!! Next time I’m stuck in Atlanta traffic ( on 75) on our many trips to FL, I’ll call you and we we’ll have a coke!!! Lol! Seriously , I appreciate you😁
I like this tutorial.very helpful and clear and precise tutorial. Thank you!
That hydrangea behind you is beautiful!
It was, wasn't it!? We've moved from that house now and I do miss that gorgeous plant!
Thanks for reading the pattern, I've been trying to learn how to use them. I'm going to make this for a friends son
You’re welcome, Bonnie! (I try to included guided patter reading whenever I do a tutorial.)
Thank you i got my free hat size chart..now it will help me not confusing with the sizes
Glad to know you found it helpful!
Margaret Olander yes and i will follow your pattern for the beanie ...my client order this 😊😊😊thanks so much
I can't wait to get home tonight and watch this i need baby hat ideas! Thank you!
Ooo, good! Glad my timing was on point, Nicole!
Just made my first little hat. Going to make many more your explanation of the pattern and stitches were fabulous thank you so much Margaret 😁
This is the classiest crochet baby hat ever! Thank you so much!
What an awesome compliment! Thank you!! Have fun making it!
Thanks so much for the great video and generous printed pattern.
You are so welcome! Glad I had something helpful to share!
I love your podcasts! The hats are awesome and you explain everything so clear and precise! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Brenda! Everyone has different learning styles and I'm glad to know that yours aligns with my teaching style! That's why I love RUclips... there's something for everyone!
Fantastic tutorial, thank you. I have always hated doing the row around the brim of the hat, but the way you have explained it has certainly stopped me from being frustrated. I'm British and have never heard of waistcoat being said the way your dictionary told you.
I'm a firm believer that there's no "right or wrong" in crochet. You find what works for you and run with it! That's exactly what I do with that "sc around the brim" thing. And thank you for giving me a British insider's pronunciation of waistcoat!
Thank you for your tutorial, you are very patient.
Now I can start more hats, with the correct way.🌸
What a lovely compliment, Linda! Thank you! And have fun with this pattern!
I made this little hat in blue and white for a new baby and now mum has asked if I will make a larger size for him as she loved it. Thank you.
What a lovely compliment, Alison... both for your work and my pattern! So glad to hear it as I adore this little hat!
Thanks for this great tutorial, I wondered how to do the waistcoat stitch, now I know! Appreciate all the time and work you put into your videos. I've been a subscriber for over two years and have gotten a lot of helpful information and entertainment, too. Love your sharing and positive energy, esp "Be kind to one another, even if you disagree on stuff". Suzee
Oh, goodness... these tutorials DO take a lot of time, Suzee, but I'm happy to do it! Thank you for hanging out with me for 2 years!!
Thank you so much for this video. I have always wondered how to work this pattern and now I think I can do it. I like making hats so now I can add another color to them using up my leftovers. Again thank you 😊
Exactly, Donna! Scraps never looked so good! Ha!
Soo Happy I found this Video! Ive only found videos with this pattern In Knitting until you!😁
Thank You!
Thanks, Maria! It took me ages to figure out how to get something similar in crochet!
Thanks so much for guiding and sharing! Such invaluable tools xx
You're so welcome! Glad I had something helpful to share!
Thank you.. so it's ok what I am seeing. I followed you closely and use a stitch marker. I just wanted to check with you thank you
Thank you so much for this patterns. Much appreciated.
I’m so glad you liked it, Jannetje!
Really like the way you start the hat
Try it on your next project and see what you think. I have this "thing" against knots and seams. I avoid them whenever possible!
Explanation is very clean and clear
Thank you so much for your tutorial. I love this hat! I've found my new project.
So glad you liked this pattern, Tammy! Have fun!

Love this pattern and your tutorial is very clear thank so much Margaret 💗🧶🙋♀️🇦🇺
So glad you can use it, Anna!
Great pattern Margret, I just love learning new stitches and I will be making this cute little hat for sure. Crochet is always surprising me I learnt another stitch the other day I had not heard of, extended single crochet esc.
I really enjoyed your tutorial as well. Thank you, from Di
Isn't it wonderful to keep discovering new ideas and stitches?!
Love the tutorial very well explained thank you.
Yeah, I love when you do tutorials! This hat looks great. Thank you so much 😊

Awww.... what a lovely compliment! Thank you, Ruth and Welcome!!
I just completed two hats.I love the design and the chance to do a couple of interesting new stitches.Thanks.
Thank you very much Margaret Im right handed to . Very nice stiches.!!!
I would never have tried this stitch with a printed pattern. But with the video it looks doable. You are a marvelous teacher. I also liked the little tip about starting a chain. Yarn over and put end behind and start crocheting. Looks much better.
Thank you, Linda, and I agree.... describing this stitch verbally was difficult enough! It definitely helps to have a visual. And and I'm glad you like my no-knot start. I tend to avoid knots and seams whenever possible!
Thank you so......... much for sharing this design.I really liked this
You're so welcome! I'm glad you can use it!
Excellent tutorial, thank you Margaret...can't wait for your next one!
Oh goodness! Thank you, Lorraine, but it takes me ages to get a tutorial edited not to mention thinking up what may be of interest! Ha! If you have any ideas, let me know!
Hi Margaret. Love this tutorial. Thanks for your time.
These tutorials DO take a lot of time, Cindy, but I'm happy to do it! I was especially happy about these little hats!
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for!! Great tutorial; I can’t wait to get started, thanks so much 😁
I'm so glad I could help!
I'm gonna add this hat to my Charity mission for this fall. Thank you
Ooo...this is a good one for charities, Kathy! Easy to make different sizes and great for putting scraps and open skeins to good use!
Thank you so much am a beginner and this really help, best tutorial ever x
This is definitely not a beginner project so you must have a natural talent!! Great job!
Margaret Olander thank you :-)
