I am learning so much with these tutorials! As a visual learner I love the color coded pattern directions. Thank you for helping us demystify the nuances of crocheting. Your time to create the videos and share your talents is a valuable resource that is greatly appreciated.❤️
WHAT A VIDEO !!!!! I'm so glad I found you again. I know the camel stitch and am going to pick it up again by making this hat. The written pattern couldn't be more clear . Thanks again, you are an awesome teacher. !!! ❤🎉🎉😊
What an excellent reference, Margaret. You've made the instructions clear enough that I think people of any skill level could follow. I, too, love the spiral as opposed to joining so you don't have to hide the join line. Thank you for the sizing chart also.
What an easy to follow pattern and you are teaching so much about how to read a pattern, I did know this info, but I can understand that it is incredibly easy and important to follow, I too always put a stitch marker. Thank you for your Time, Video and Pattern and Clear concise instructions. 💕
The light just went on in my brain with this video ... Thank you so much for explaining the pattern in such detail. I have had crochet questions and never thought about a few things you explained in this video. Bless you for this video!
Wonderful tutorial. You are a knitter for sure. The way you loop your yarn is a dead giveaway. But i love that you do crochet tutorials for us too. Thank you.
I can see why you'd think that and I am a knitter but long after I learned to crochet but I knit continental so there's no looping like that... I'm just weird!! Hahaha! I first learned to crochet when I was 12-ish and I can't seem to break that odd method I developed.
I really enjoyed how thorough your tutorial was. I especially appreciate how you chose a dark backdrop instead of those stark white ones, which are sensitive to my eyes. Thank you for a great and easy tutorial!
Thanks for the kind words but it's definitely a learning process. I cringe at some of my older videos with poor camera and lighting and before I figured out things like background choice vs yarn usage!
reat tutorial! you explain the stitches so well. thank you! my only problem is i am new to crochet and time stamps for each row would really help us slow pokes to keep up. thanks again. so glad there is no expiration dates on videos.I noticed this is a few years old, so glad i found you
Glad you like it, Karen! Timestamps are handy and the practice of adding them to tutorials is relatively new. The ability to add timestamps was a "hidden feature" for years on RUclips until recently. No doubt you've noticed the helpful "red line with breaks" at the bottom of the screen of time stamped video (newer videos only!) That feature is only a few months old and not rolled out yet to all RUclipsrs! I'm lucky to have them! In Beta testing right now is RUclips's ability to create auto timestamps where it THINKS you may want them. Of course, we can edit them if they're wrong but what a time saver for the editing process! Imagine how long it would take you to watch the video and take notes on where you want the timestamps and that's why you won't see me going back to add timestamps to older videos! YIKES! However, I do take that added step when I think it may be helpful. I even did it on a recent vlog where I had so many topics I was chattering on about. Ha! So glad my teaching style aligns with your learning style. If interested, my other crochet tutorials can be found here: Crochet Tutorials: ruclips.net/p/PLV9cndFtR5BWJVUc-dQ277A2lhxmm5zvq
Yay!!!! Just in time for my Christmas gift-making crochet projects!! Thank you, Margaret! Even the size you chose to make in your tutorial was perfect--my little granddaughter is 2, and so are several of the other children at her babysitter's. I had already planned to try to make them each a hat for Christmas, and here you are---exactly what I wanted!!
I love the way you teach! I also would have been a much better student in school if I had you as a teacher! I almost spit out my coffee when you said "can't be noticed on a galloping horse"!
What a beautiful compliment, Linda! Thank you! We all learn differently so it's so nice to have RUclips with many different teacher options out there! And yes... the galloping horse comment was from my mother. As you can see, we are not perfectionists! Ha!
Love this ! I just made it and I believe it will be appreciated Giving as a Christmas present. Thanx for the chart now I don’t have to guess on what size to make it. I’m making them for all the men and boys in my family for Christmas presents there are 12 of them. Then I’m making the girls all ear warmers. They don’t wear hats because it messes up the hair. We have 7 girls.
Hi, just finished my hat and i love it, thank you so much for this pattern . I now know how to camel stitch and change the shape of the hat ,Thank you Margaret..Kimx
Thank you very much Margaret to share, I like to make in every year, new hats.Next I would like to make the beautiful hats, what you just share. I think its semple and easy to follow your explanation.Thank you, and God bless you.
I'm so glad I found your channel! I was watching another one of your videos regarding using yarn scraps, and what great tips you gave! And this tutorial is wonderful. Thank you!
I have been watching your videos - but never subscribed! What is wrong with me? Nothing now. I have subscribed, tapped the bell and clicked the like. This video - WOW, I am impressed. You have made it soooo easy - and able to use one pattern for all yarns. I am going to use regular 4 ply first but then want to try to Woolspun. I wanted to use it on the Addi but it is too heavy. This should be perfect.
Very nice hat pattern, Margaret! I also wanted to tell you how utterly delightful it was that you did not teach us the basic stitches while showing us how to make it! I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine that 99 out of 100 crochet videos, even for intermediate or advanced patterns, will have the presenter teaching us how to single and double crochet... up through several rounds! I think I am even being generous with those numbers. ;-) Rachel D
That's what's so wonderful about RUclips... lots of different teaching styles to match up with lots of different learning styles! Glad you and I seem to "match up," Rae!
@@sheepishlysharing Me too, Margaret! And RUclips is such a wonderful learning tool! For so many years, I only knew what I learned from family: single crochet, double crochet and granny squares. Rachel D
Did I not? Oh goodness. Well, I just closed it up as I sewed in that tail! Simple enough but I should have included it. (I know the Camel Stitch Slouchy tutorial demos it if you feel you need to see.)
You actually wrap the yarn around your hook with your finger like a Knitter, instead of using the hook to "catch" the yarn like it was made to do. I have been noticing this method as I have been introducing myself to "RUclips" ... I am Old School, have been crocheting for more than 50yrs. Learned to crochet from printed material around 1968 or 69' ... So, I was wondering, does this method of actual finger wrapping the yarn around the hook come from a person that Knits and crossed over into Crochet? just asking ....
Nope! I learned to crochet first and later became a continental knitter. (I've been on RUclips so long that my "learn-to-knit" frustration is clearly documented! Ha!) You'll also hear me say "there are no rules in crochet" because I firmly believe that's the case. If you enjoy what you're doing and you end up with a finished product that you love, then you're happy and successful!
That's a good question, Rebecca. For the most part, yes. I've been happy with 12 stitches for every size using worsted weight yarn. However, when I use a thicker or thinner yarn, I may adjust the number. (Crochet is so easy to rip back and try things out, I tend to do that very thing until I'm happy with the taper amount!)
Can you take this pattern and make a messy bun hat out of it? I have someone who wants one and I don’t have a pattern. If this will not work can you send me a link to a pattern to a messy bun hat with a camel brim ? Thank you for listening to me.🙃💖💖💖
Of course! You can make a messy bun out of any pattern and I'm in the process of making a tutorial on just that very topic! Just skip the first few rows. Chain however many stitches you see noted at the end of the row you choose to begin with, add a a chain or two for turning, crochet the desired stitch across the chains and pick up the pattern instruction on the next row. Easy.
Of course! Feel free to use any of your favorite techniques! (Secret: I write for beginners most of the time. Or sometimes I say “or choose your favorite way to start a hat.”)
I have to admit that one of my favorite things I like about your videos is when you say, "it's me Margaret".
😁

I don't like that join line either, Jolene!! Some may not like that merging-of-the-spiral but I will do anything to avoid that seam in the back!
What an easy to follow pattern and you are teaching so much about how to read a pattern, I did know this info, but I can understand that it is incredibly easy and important to follow, I too always put a stitch marker. Thank you for your Time, Video and Pattern and Clear concise instructions. 💕

Great tips! I also like to spiral instead of join. It makes for a nice clean look.
Yes! I'll do anything to avoid that seam wherever possible, Nancy!

Loved the tutorial I will make one for me one for a friend's baby and another for a different friend's toddler
I'm so glad you liked it! I LOVE that camel stitch over the ears! Not only is it pretty but it's so warm and toasty!
Love your hat and the way you instruct. It is very easy to follow. Thanks for a great pattern.
What a nice compliment, Joanne! Thank you!
This was great. And the hat is beautiful. Thanks for including a chart for sizes.
You're so welcome, Mary! That chart is the secret to sizing success!
What a great tutorial - love the tapering technique to make sure the spiral doesn't show!
That tapering technique is kind of tricky though. You may have to play with the numbers depending on the yarn you're using! Glad you liked it, Peter!
I really likee the idea of using the color coding. ❤❤🎉🎉😊
Hope you're feeling well. Thanks!! I learned a few things. The tapering idea is genius!
Felling better, Amy, thanks! Love the taper... I'll do anything to avoid a seam in the back! HA!

How cute! I can see all those little warm heads boppin' into the babysitter's!
Me, too! I am already planning colors....lol! And if the adults are extra good, Santa might bring them one, too! :)
love these stiches. I'm having fun just doing it a couple of times till i get it grained in my head lol. Thanks for sharing.
I love those stitches, too. cg! So cozy and squishy!

Thank you! It’s a trial because I have cataracts and I’m scheduled for surgery after Christmas. But I’m pushing through
Thank you for such a beautiful and informative tutorial 🎉

You are a treasure Margaret. I love this hat.
Thanks, May! Not a treasure... just somebody who likes easy crochet projects that put scraps to good use! HA!
Margaret, you are a wonderful teacher!
Thank you, Christine! What a wonderful compliment!

Thanks for the awesome tutorial! Love the fact u are using stitch markers!!!! 👍🏼
You're so welcome, Audrey! If I do a hat in the round with no seaming, I HAVE to use stitch markers to mark the end of a row!
Hi Margaret, where can I find a nice easy pattern for an Afghan?
Thanks
Audrey
Great tutorial! You make it sooo easy. Thanks judy
It IS easy, Judy! (I rarely do hard things as I always want my hobby to be relaxing!)

High Margrette..I would love too see a tutorial on the highlow crochet stitch beanie from you 💘🌷
I'm afraid I've never heard of that! I did a search and can't find anything on it, either.
So, you never showed how to fix that lil gap at the end . . .or did I hear you incorrectly? I can't wait to start on this pattern!! LUV IT!!
Did I not? Oh goodness. Well, I just closed it up as I sewed in that tail! Simple enough but I should have included it. (I know the Camel Stitch Slouchy tutorial demos it if you feel you need to see.)
Thanks..will definitely try. Beautiful 💕
Thank you, Marcia!
Thank you so much for the easy and great instructions. I have a lot of left-over yarn, so I'll be making several of these hats 😊
New life for old yarn! Have fun!
Hi Margaret, do u have a tutorial for a messy bun hat please? Have a blessed day! 🙏
I don't have one at this point in time!
I enjoy your tutorials. Thank you for making it so clear and easy to follow. 😃

too much of a yarn eater for my scrapbusting projects. Great stitch though :)
