    Hi.cant agree enough on the yrs of minis.upto 73 good body's.i hope you don't forget my favourite check especially when I was a mot tester.and that was front damper top bracket they rot really well behind them not found one that didn't need platting and welding g.i put grease between inner wing and top bracket to make sure it doesn't rust again.enjoying your videos with interest.

    That was a little bit of a surprise just how much rot was in the shell. If I were James I would looking at my bank balance and waving at it (sorry James) because that's in depth rot, although it still doesn't beat the turquoise Cooper with no scuttle or front left on it. Thank god you have Marc in your corner for this build.

      @@SimpsonsClassics I was talking to a guy about the Cooper at the Ripon show yesterday. I said it was the worst I'd seen on a more modern of the original Minis and said he should go check it out so you might have a new sub there lol. He had a red '93 a bit like Toony's Mayfair that he had, all original with about 26k on it and it was mint and had never been touched, just waxed up to within an inch and not taken out in the rain. His daughter had a beige '83 Maestro 1.3HLE, same miles and same condition.

    Hi Marc, I don't want to be a downer but at what point does a prospective buyer decide a Mini is too far gone to revive? When you consider the cost of all the panels, welding, nuts and bolts, paint etc. Is nostalgia worth that amount. On a more upbeat note we will get to see the salvation of a classic little British car.....from near death to original vitality!

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  2 года назад

      This is a very good point and one that should be considered for sure. I am going to use heritage wings on this car buddy. The ones used on this car previously are magnum ones which are fine but the e-coating needs to be stripped before paint or it micro blisters causing the rust issues seen here. Hope this helps. 👍

      Hi thanks for the comment. This shell is definitely worth saving if you have seen our 89 build that car really should have been reshelled but we chose to save it. Eve the Mayfair isn’t this bad so it’s far cheaper to save this shell than pay £8-10k for a new one. Yes it will definitely save the work but then we love some rusty content on this channel.
