Ill come back later and do the description box. Currently hoop dancing lol. Woke up with some serious anxiety this morning. So I’m going to let my soul dance it out for a bit. ❤️
The hand dyed ones that are shown in this video are from nickies knickers and seed to sapling. I’ll update my description box later with links. I also have a coupon code for both sites. They’re not commission codes but they will save you 10% if you want to try either brand!
I have a video in my queue about the different ways to pad fold a flat. It’ll fit perfectly with that train of though! Also, I don’t believe in certain diapers being the best. Lol I just think it’s all subjective and individual preference. Nighttime solutions can be boiled down to the ounce which can give you a better idea of what you need for nighttime. Some babies need 15oz of absorbency and some babies need 25+Oz of absorbency. So the best flat for you will vary depending on what you’re needing. I do have a video about what flats I use for nighttime. My routine is still the same ☺️❤️
I didn’t use flats with my first. I’m 27 weeks with baby 2 and I cannot WAIT to use flats!!!! I feel like it’s the perfect diaper for me, bc I had so many wash routine issues. It will be a solution to all of my problems that I had with microfiber inserts. I can’t wait!
Flats help so much with bad wash routine. They won’t magically fix a routine but they’re very forgiving unlike microfiber. Sometimes they’re annoying to fold but they’re worth it to me!
I have like 50 flower sac towels and was wanting to add in stretchy flats but was worried about doing so because I don't know much about them! Thank you for making this and giving your input into them.
I think Jen Pickman has some absorbency tests on her channel of different stretchy flats. Some flats are total powerhouses when t comes to absorbency 🙌🏼
Do you find it's harder to spray off the poop from the stretchy flat wrapped around baby since it goes all around baby? How come I see babies with just the flats & no cover? Do they always need a waterproof cover over?
I got a few stretchy flats to try. Just the plain Jane osocozy ones, but if I love them I will get or make more! I need to get myself a serger so badly…
In my experience I find that stretchy flats hold the poop in a lot better. I am able to get a nice tight seal with the stretchiness. When I’m using receiving blankets as flats I find that I barely get a good seal at all, but with stretchy flats I’m able to jelly roll the legs and get a nice fit AND it’s still gentle 💖 I’ve been making my own diy stretchy flats (no sewing, just cutting) and I love them!
The wait time for her flats is forever so I’ve never bought them. They’re hard to find on swaps because they go so fast. Someone arranged for me to get some flats from her back in March. I haven’t heard anything back though. I’ve heard amazing things about her flats. Hopefully one day I’ll get to try them ❤️
Jay's Nest if you join her Facebook group she often has RTS days! She just said recently that the wait time for a flat only order is around 2 weeks. There’s also a ton of used flats in her FB group’s BST thread!
Do you only buy the OS 28”? I’ve seen some places sell Newborn 20" & Infant 24" but want one that’ll work from NB in a cover up to potty training lol. Or is that asking to much?
20x20 is great for small babies under 10lbs. We used it up til 10 but it was a tight squeeze and needed to boost it. I like 24x24. It’s good for padfolding for us. We usually boost it though. I do prefer 28x28 though. That’s my go to sizing
I’ll have to look into that too! I’ve heard plant based softeners are great for stretchy flats and keeping them soft. I’ve also heard something about unicorn wash. I’ve never tried it but it sounds fascinating
@@JaysNest I used seventh generation because it's cheaper than mrs. Meyers lol. I've people talk of unicorn wash but I haven't paid enough attention to what it was lol
I would love a Jay jabber on subject of if paritular brands of inserts/prefolds/flats/ or in general whatever type fabric bamboo vs cotton vs hemp (microfiber I kno u dont prefer).. but microfiber even. I am curious if even you wash properly ... does the fabric lose absorbancy over time with use. I know natural fibers tend to get holes. Unnatural fiber holds stink. But I am really curious of wear and tear over time if absorbancy "stops working" ..or. stops being effecive
That’s a great idea! I’ve noticed that natural fibers don’t lose absorbency unless there are holes lol. In my experience microfiber did lose its softness over time. Microfiber sheds in the wash.. it sheds tiny micro particles so naturally over time it loses a bit of its original absorbing capacity
Yes! Always use a cover with flats. Dyed flats have no functional purpose, just as a printed cloth diaper cover has no functional purpose- they’re just cute compared to a solid color diaper or a plain white diaper. (I don’t remember all that I said in this video since it’s a few years old lol) but I am actually a textile artist now 💖 hand dyeing custom fabrics is my job now and I love it! It’s a creative outlet
@@JaysNest Salamat Po! Ok, that is the extent of my Tagalog 😂 I am an American here in Mactan, Cebu with my very pregnant Filipina. We love your videos and are learning a lot.
I've ordered our first stretchy flat to try out (Nicki's Knickers)! Have you ever tried any stretchy flats from Fruit of the Womb? I'm currently cloth diapering a 17 month old and 6 month old, but haven't used any flats. For our next baby, I'd love to start with stretchy flats and newborn covers! So, I'm seeking all the reviews I can.
I haven’t tried FOTW yet. Her waitlist has always been so long so I haven’t taken a chance on them yet. I’ve never heard of a negative review about her flats. Everyone loves them!
Heath thalm you can’t get the same fabric unless you buy a whole bolt of it (per the owner of FOTW in a Facebook group). its much nicer to just support the WAHM and buy the flat from her instead of trying to go around her to get the exact same fabric she uses, since (I’m assuming) it’s a special blend just for her. There are however plenty of bamboo/cotton/hemp jersey blends out there to play with.

I use regular (non-stretchy) flats and I can't find a fold that will contain the poo. Will stretchy flats contain the poo better?

I've found seventh generation fabric softener works well on cloth diapers also since it is plant based!
Jessica Johnson so it doesn’t leave residue??????? 🤔🤔😯

are the stretchy flats from nickis nickers all 4way stretch?
Are you always using a water-proof cover? If so then I am wondering (not a criticism) why buy a dyed flat if it would be covered.
Yes! Always use a cover with flats.

What’s the absorbency of your diy stretchy flat ? I have a Moby like cheapie amazon wrap that I’m thinking of cutting up into flats
I’m not 100% sure. Maybe I’ll do an absorbency testing of my flats!
What co. did you buy the pretty purple hand dyed stretchy flat from ? thanks 💗
It’s from nickis knickers!
Jay's Nest thanks 😁
How absorbent are they compared to a bamboo prefold?
Definitely way more absorbent! Bamboo flats usually hold 9-13oz.
Some stretchy flats hold anywhere from 17-24oz
How many bandie bands is practical ? I also use pins
1-3 is a good number, imo.
Thanks!
