That pipe is plastic with metal end and clip holder for the turbo. Hah i don't need the whole pipe just one litle ring seal that is. But this is how people want to make money. greetings, 10 days ago my turbo was damaged and the oil burst, I repaired the turbo, but the master who repaired the turbo told me that I urgently need to clean the particle filter and that it is the cause of the damage to the turbo. I wonder what you think about it? thank you
Not heard of a turbo failure caused by a particulate filter being full. If it was that clogged causing a turbo issue the car would detect this and you would have a fault code logged for a clogged DPF filter
@ramomahalbasic2749 turbos can just fail, main cause of turbo failure is oil issue which when turbo has been replaced they should have replaced the oil pick up tube
@@TrackAndBeyondTurbo repaired and installed, the car runs and works as before, but today the same light appeared as when my turbo "limited engine power" broke, the error disappeared, but what are your recommendations?

Hey pal, no not had any issues with the shower steering to date, I believe these XE’s have electric power assisted steering. So could be a sensor fault but could also be the rack iv seen people have had to replace them
I would say that is a bit expensive. A manufacturer turbo is around £450-£500 and in my opinion should only be around 4/5 hour labour not sure what the going rate is on labour but even at £100 an hour your looking at £1000. I’d expect about £1200/1300 for a turbo replacement on one of these. I’m not hooking when I say that these are a really simple turbo change
Hey, I have the same XE, do you have any experience with the P0299 turbo under boost fault? Car goes to limp mode whenever I push the accelerator harder. Already cleaned the EGR, checked turbo, it feels ok, it has only only a very tiny play. Do you have any suggestion?
@@TrackAndBeyond I checked the hoses, clamps, but can't do a pressure test. If I'm right, it has two EGR valves. One before the turbo and an other one on the right side of the engine that goes directly to the intake manifold. The one you changed filter in the video was full of soot, so I cleaned it, but it's not on the pressure side, so I think that's not the cause of the problem. The other wierd thing is the comsumption which is as high as 33mpg. Is there any way to test the actuator? Or can this be a clogged DPF without any fault codes?
I hope my turbo is going to hold up a bit longer 😅. How many kilometres/miles has your Jag on the odo? Edit: hope your Jag is going to hold up. Which oil have you used now?

Absolutely fantastic cars like new again! Was such an easy swap on this!
@@TrackAndBeyond cool - I have an older XF - thinking of trying this engine now but low mileage and I’ll change the oil probably twice yearly 😮👍
@@scottuv yea I’d say lowing the service intervals is key! I genuinely love the car and think it’s the best car to drive iv ever owned. But yea sadly they are plagued with reliability issues
Hi, yesterday my engine light on my jaguar XE from 2017 was turned on and dosn't go off. Also a bit of black smoke comes out. What do you think it is?
If the engine management light is on it could be one of thousands of possibilities only way to know for sure what’s up is by having it plugged in to a diagnostic machine and seeing what codes are there. Black smoke is usually too much fuel with a diesel engine could be boost pipe loose etc need to get the codes then go from there
Hay!Great Job!And what were the signs? I have the same engine, in 3rd and 4th gears it jerks when accelerating and 2 times there was an error: low turbine pressure, so I think that the turbine does not pump up the required pressure
The signs for me where whining/whistling noise especially when cold, then a couple weeks later imploded 🤣
@@TrackAndBeyond OK! Well, as I wrote, 3rd and 4th gear jerks, and there was an error for low boost pressure! At the same time, 0-100km is 10 seconds! 2.0d 120kw manual gearbox! I’m thinking of changing the turbine, I hope that’s the problem! I measured the compression everything is ok in the cylinders/28-30bar
@@GazujTV turbo wouldn’t cause a jerk in 1 or 2 particular gears tho it would be constant through all gears
@@TrackAndBeyond I checked everything for air leaks I don’t know where to go anymore! Could it be that the valve timing is gone?
Have you got any fault codes? Could be engine mounts causing it to be jerky?
How long did it take to replace the turbo? Mine has gone today and been quoted £1200 to replace.
Honestly not long at all, about 4/5 hours to be honest. Probably one of the easiest turbo replacements iv done
Got this issue with my XE, turbo went on the motorway slip road so fully blocking the road and had too nurse the car in limp mode. Oil got sucked through the engine into the inter cooler and out the exhaust. Is this repairable ? The engine has not seized
Christ your lucky!! Yea I would say it’s repairable. Going to take some cleaning though! And probably going to be very Smokey for a while after the rebuild
Great video, how many miles have your Jag? I have the same engine as yours, 2.0D 180. Mine have nearly 40000 mls now. Thanks
Thanks! 😀 she’s done just over 112k miles
@@TrackAndBeyond You had any other trouble with car? Timing chain, etc?
Only what you can see on the videos, turbo, adblue (DEF) the camera and breaks. Other than that no she’s been fine!
Wish this was a 'how to' and not on time-lapse! I have a blown turbo in my F pace and this is one of the only videos on replacing it. Is it straight forward for a DIY-er? Thanks!
I show the major steps in real time the only bit that’s are timelapsed are me undoing the stuff I say I’m going to undo. If the F pace has the same engine layout then 100% it genuinely is the easiest turbo to replace iv ever seen/done nice and accessible
@@TrackAndBeyondthanks mate I think I’ll give it a go! Any special tips? Do I need to oil anything up before fitting the new turbo or clean anything out things like that?
yea whole thing top side. Only tips I’d say is make sure you buy a new fitting kit with clamp etc and the oil delivery hose as that’s likely the reason it failed to begin with. When you buy the fitting kit it gives you a syringe to put some oil in the turbo before assembly, Take your time and it genuinely is a pretty easy process, oh and change the EGR filter like I did too whilst you’re there!
@@TrackAndBeyond return pipe or feed pipe mate?
@Jonnowright both of possible but defo feed pipe
got all excited then realized this is the diesel. mine is petrol 2.0 Ingenium. got a fault code for turbo wastgate actuator stuck open, and unfortunately its a one piece buy for petrol turbo+actuator.
Ahh man sorry that sucks! Not sure what the turbos on the petrol are like to do
@@TrackAndBeyond question did you fill the oil supply tube to have the new turbo not run dry at start? saw some internet posting about adding an additive just to the tube. not specific to Jags....and might be bs to sell a moly additive lol. instead of the 20$ additive was thinking use some fresh engine oil.
I used a syringe to add some oil to the turbo, but as you have a petrol you could disarm the coil packs and turn the engine over a few times before first start that would prime the turbo nicely
@@TrackAndBeyond thanks! plastic syringes (non med) are readily available and will inject oil in the supply tube hole, have a bunch syringes for fiberglass work in shop, instead of pulling the coils off the plugs (disarm?). great vid!!
@@joshcapecod6098 yea when I bought the turbo fitting kit with the new gaskets etc (make sure you do!) it came with a syringe for that purpose 😄
Any chance you can show us how to change the EGR filter? Amazing videos btw
I replace the EGR filter at 4:40 onwards bud 👍🏻
@@TrackAndBeyond ah sorry must have missed that. Thank you
No worries 😁
Hi mate I got problem with that egr filter it's now blocks very often. Before was 6month moth every wheel clean and again.... What solution? Turbo problem black egr and Remap?
To be honest they will get full rather quickly as it just circulated the crap from exhaust and oil breather system. Does it actually get blocked or does it just look very dirty?
Amazing video, thanks for sharing the information.
I have a quick question - my turbo is making this howling/whining noise, do you think just replacing the core/CHRA of the turbo would help? As far I could see the outer turbo (compressor and housing doesn't get damaged easily). I am thinking of just replacing the core/CHRA along with a new turbo fitting kit, do you think that's a DIY, or need some turbo specialist? Thanks!
Personally never replaced the core of a turbo my self before, although looks relatively straightforward I wouldn’t trust myself 🤣 also I think taken to a specialist for a refurb they make sure it’s balanced etc which I couldn’t do at home
@@TrackAndBeyond Yeah that makes sense, also have you changed the turbo oil feed pipe? I've seen it's a must whenever the turbo's changed or replaced. Do you if it's a DIY too?
@@jatinchavan5360 I didn’t replace my pipe no, I made sure it was clean and clear however. It would be a DIY job whilst you’re doing the turbo tho 100%
@@TrackAndBeyond I tried removing my turbo as I have got a new CHRA, but damn the three bolts on the downpipe gasket were so stubborn and seized. I tried putting some penetrating oil and letting it soak overnight, still couldn't move them a bit. How did you manage to remove those bolts, were they easy peasy?
@@jatinchavan5360 yea they where pretty easy on mine, have you tried using some heat?
Hello sir. I am curently abroad on 2000 miles trip with my xf 2017. And get message restricted performance. When i read with my OBD scan, i have P0299 on pending faults. Notice oiled black hose under the turbo. When i shut of the engine and start again, the car have power, if i not pushing too much all is good. Is that bad turbo or just air leak from this huge black hose under the turbo. All comments will help thank you.
P0299 is low boost pressure. Sounds like a hose has either split or popped off
@@TrackAndBeyond Is it possible to be from this black hose, it's very oiled on my visual check today.
@@ivanpetrov2280if you're still looking for the issue I had similar before my turbo went out, follow intake pipes after the turbo, to the throttle body and make sure they're not slipping off at boost. We had the serpentine belt replaced and the dealer failed to tighten the clamps on the short pipe near the throttle body 😅
@@shaunclaudemichael8127 Hi mate. I believe the issue come from the cooler pipe which is connected to the turbo, there was black dirt and little oiled , clear sign for air leak. Today i was in the local Jaguar dealer in Erdington for exhaust damper. I ask them for this cooler pipe seal, but the Dealer told me they sell the whole pipe only. That pipe is plastic with metal end and clip holder for the turbo. Hah i don't need the whole pipe just one litle ring seal that is. But this is how people want to make money. When i was abroad i just pull out the seal from the pipe bed and lifted on the top. Turbo have cone shape and when i put it back seal the thing better but this is temp solution, till i find better rubber for this place. Any way the EGR filter was completely block so i get the opportunity to clean it when i mess with turbo-cooler pipe. Good thing is that all 3 codes dissappear from pc and check light off. Now i need to fight the strong exhaust-engine-body vibration(Damper)
Engine mounts will be the cause of the vibration
I have a XF 2.2 and thinking of changing to a sport brake 2.0d - the one I’m looking at is 15k with 102k miles- these ingenuim seem v fragile- to risky? It’s a 2017 with full history. Thanks.
I’d say that’s a lot of money for an ingenium on 102k miles and personally wouldn’t go for it. Unless it’s had a timing chain done on it recently. The engine is ok if maintained and looked after more than what jaguar recommend I think they where asking for too much of the engine with such extended service intervals
@@TrackAndBeyond thanks 👍
greetings, 10 days ago my turbo was damaged and the oil burst, I repaired the turbo, but the master who repaired the turbo told me that I urgently need to clean the particle filter and that it is the cause of the damage to the turbo. I wonder what you think about it? thank you
Not heard of a turbo failure caused by a particulate filter being full. If it was that clogged causing a turbo issue the car would detect this and you would have a fault code logged for a clogged DPF filter
@@TrackAndBeyond what do you think, then what's the matter, because it really didn't tell me that the dpf was clogged? thank you
@ramomahalbasic2749 turbos can just fail, main cause of turbo failure is oil issue which when turbo has been replaced they should have replaced the oil pick up tube
@@TrackAndBeyondTurbo repaired and installed, the car runs and works as before, but today the same light appeared as when my turbo "limited engine power" broke, the error disappeared, but what are your recommendations?
@ramomahalbasic2749 need to get it plugged in to diagnostic if you are getting fault codes displayed like that. That display may be the DPF clogged then but you said you had no fault come up on the dash previously?
Have you had any power steering issues? My XE R Sport has just given an amber warning.
Hey pal, no not had any issues with the shower steering to date, I believe these XE’s have electric power assisted steering. So could be a sensor fault but could also be the rack iv seen people have had to replace them
@@TrackAndBeyond getting it checked out next week. Thanks for replying.
Hi I've just had a quote of 1836 quid to put a new turbo on my xe r sport,am I having my pants pulled down to go ahead ???
I would say that is a bit expensive. A manufacturer turbo is around £450-£500 and in my opinion should only be around 4/5 hour labour not sure what the going rate is on labour but even at £100 an hour your looking at £1000. I’d expect about £1200/1300 for a turbo replacement on one of these. I’m not hooking when I say that these are a really simple turbo change
@TrackAndBeyond thanks for the quick response ,so it's about 500 quid too much you'd say ?
@jonbrookes6188 in my opinion yea
@@TrackAndBeyond thanks
Hey, I have the same XE, do you have any experience with the P0299 turbo under boost fault? Car goes to limp mode whenever I push the accelerator harder. Already cleaned the EGR, checked turbo, it feels ok, it has only only a very tiny play. Do you have any suggestion?
Hey, not personally experienced that issue. Could be the turbo actuator as that seems a component that’s prone to failure is it petrol or diesel?
@@TrackAndBeyond it’s the 2.0 163Le diesel
Could be the actuator although I would have thought you’d have a code for that too. Have you checked for boost leaks etc?
@@TrackAndBeyond I checked the hoses, clamps, but can't do a pressure test. If I'm right, it has two EGR valves. One before the turbo and an other one on the right side of the engine that goes directly to the intake manifold. The one you changed filter in the video was full of soot, so I cleaned it, but it's not on the pressure side, so I think that's not the cause of the problem. The other wierd thing is the comsumption which is as high as 33mpg. Is there any way to test the actuator? Or can this be a clogged DPF without any fault codes?
Don’t think so, if it was a clogged DPF you’d have messages about it. If you have a capable diagnostic machine you could do a test on the actuator
I hope my turbo is going to hold up a bit longer 😅. How many kilometres/miles has your Jag on the odo?
Edit: hope your Jag is going to hold up. Which oil have you used now?
Mines sat on 112k miles so did alright
my turbo actuator failed at 68K....on petrol it cannot be replaced, believe me i tried to source that Hella part to hell and back. check ebay, there are OEM jag turbos for half dealer price new. I made an offer and held firm and finally got one for 650$ usd. skip used turbos imo. the actuator is a fail point, pull the error code always.
Nice man good effort on sourcing a turbo, iv seen the petrol turbo location and looks like it’s basically same place as my diesel one so should be pretty straightforward to change
