Amazing work of Renault Sport... one of the very best hot hatches ever made. Fast in a straight line too but the handling is legendary. Very few cars which can shake this one off on any track.
I'm driving a 25 year old Renault 19, and it's engine is still good, runs like a new one's...
Well, how many kilometers are on it?
well, the only bad renault engines in recent years were first versions of both 1.9dci and 1.5dci, 1.2tce was also not that great, but other than that renault engines are pretty bulletproof.
@@arekb5951 I have a 2015 Clio 4 GT Line with a 1.5 dCi engine and it's a fantastic engine !

@@arekb5951 in my family we've had a clio 1.5 dci and a clio 1.2 tce and as much as I don't like Renault, I have to say both were very reliable. More than my Audi a3
Great car, especially for track and twisty roads and not really for autobahn and straights. Nice review overall.
Good video! I owned the previous generation Trophy R for about one year and it was an amazing car. Such a visceral experience to drive it. Suspension was amazing too. I bought a Lotus Cup after that but in some ways the Trophy R was better. Very special car I’d love to try this one! 😎

they had a good interior evolution better than the other like ford with there ugly interior. but renault are hated car where i live in france because of the reliability en i will say it's true i got a renault it was not bad en not good

It's because make a new version (coupe) = make new homologation, and it's very expensive. So for this type of car it'not worth it

@@blademanx we'll see, Nissan is supposedly going to invest more into the American market, if that goes well there might be a slim chance Renault returns to the US, but most likely not with a Mégane, since their sales are pretty low in europe. Knowing the love for SUVs in the US the Kadjar and Captur probably have the best chance of selling

They saved 250 grams by changing infotainment but they preserved the rear passenger door panels, in a car that doesn't have rear sits, avoiding a potential 15 kilos weight reduction. FREEEEENCH

I got the rs trohpy 300 as daily. it's so cheap compared to other new cars. got mine with 21.000 km on it, not even 2 years old for 26.500 euros. You cant get anything proper with 300+ hp for that price below 100.000 km here.. BMWs, Audis, mercedes, all those 300hp cars have 150.000km on them and go for 35.000 euros + easily for some reason.

I'm also not a big fan of Renault, but loved previous Clio and Megare RS as well as this Trophy R, but I think it's missing out on power, I think the chasis is able to handle at least 50-70 more hp and 50-60Nm of torque, I think it should be different gearbox to handle about 500Nm and a 2.0l engine with that trubo from this R with ceramic bearings, probably we'd be close to 340 on dyno...

I don´t understand, why if theres is no rear seat, has same regular rear panels door? Why not just a flat piece of carbon fiber?
Becasue this car is already too expensive, can´t imagine if Renault wants to add custom made carbon fiber door panels just to this model.
5 doors it's more usefull than 2 doors just because you have an easy access all the meccanic of the car if the car is used for some trhophy. thats why today in the rally championship we dont see any more 2 doors cars

It needs to be a production car if Renault is to participate with it in rally championships. I don't know the rules very well but the regular trophy still has the back seats, this is just a trophy with as much weight reduction as possible to make it quicker. And in today's car world I guess they didn't want to remove the rear doors and put carbon fibre paneling because it means extra work and price

I really wish we got the Megane in the US. As usual we get none of the cool European cars. One thing that’s surprising to me about the Megane is that it uses a torsion beam instead of multilink suspension. It seems they know how to tune it to handle well enough, but I wonder how much better it would ride and handle if it had a more complex suspension system.
For sure it's an incredibly awesome and hardcore car. However without daily practically and reasonable price tag, I wouldn't consider it as a hot hatch. This is basically an entry level rally/race car.
I'd pick FK8 if I want a real hot hatch.
This car is conceived with all the practicalities aside. From your description, what you need is a household car with a little bit of sportiness touch.
Skip breakfest and you save 2 kilo...
or you can wait till you unload.....

Really only a track car, the price is ridiculous. I drove the normal cup version before i got rid of my st1 megane Rs cup and wasn’t impressed, and decided on my current 290 cupra dsg7 and im so glad i did. The rs is really cool if you want a toy but it’s not as fast as you’d imagine and is totally overshadowed by the previous model. Awesome review as allways though🙏🤙

It's nice, but the normal trophy is the way to go for a normal person. Same engine power, it has 4 control, edc as an option and you can still drive around with 4 people. All that for half the price.
strange that they removed the nice infotainment for 200g and kept the 4 door hahaha... guess they wouldn't modify the production line for that.
Sadly the last Megane RS lightweight has also succumbed to marketing wank like no rear seats and the stupid reach under the car suspension adjustment - the Civic FK8 Type R Limited Edition does it better without the wank. An interesting car but a weak successor to the RS275 Trophy R and the mighty R26R - still the best lightweight Megane.

I would be curios to drive this car, I had the old RS Trophy, followed by a Clio RS Trophy and now an FK8 Type R. The Megane was amazing but the feel of the Honda beats it. You sit lower, the gear shifting is the best i've tried, and it almost feels mid engined in handling at the limit. Only drawback is the noise, don't understand why they muted it so much.
On of my all-time favorite cars. I would happily drive this beautiful machine over any super car or hyper car. Just torn between this or the regular Megane Trophy...
I want those Ohlins... I want the rear steering delete.... I want the LSD... I want that hood and the diffuser and the exhaust... but I also want back seats... i've got a kid.

Some people ask why are you still driving. If you are in Turkey you have to drive. New renault bottom model is 120-130k TL and minimum wage is 2200 TL.

I just pay 1000 for a stage 1 to 7mod and get my type r fk8 from 320 to 400 without any update and tada.... no chance trophy r that is limited to 300 from the Transmission. And overall 38000 euros for a type r gt with stage 1... compared to trophy r 88.000 euro with the carbon rims (just with the rims he is faster onthe nurnburgring)

I use to hate Renault, and got one of the biggest slap in the mouth when you get to know the RS models, agile, precise, very fun for FWD cars and stiff, i judged them for how they look, and they definitely are not how they look

I don't know why Renault downsized from 2.0 to 1.8. If this car had 2.0, 330 hp, at least 450 Nm with a gearbox strong enough to take it, it would piss all over cars with the same engine capacity, including Golf R and Audi S3. It's very exclusive and the option to add carbon ceramics and carbon wheels it's just amazing coming from an underdog such as Renault. F1 experience has something to do with it. Yes, it's expensive, but it will hold it's value really well because it's a record setting car and 500 will be built so I think it's worth.
Johnny Michael Mainly emissions. I think those extra 30 horses won’t make a massive difference. It will probably smoke any S3/Golf R. Renault Sport has made some serious, serious good cars.

This is a statement that hot hatchs should stop stupid hp numbers, and focus on chassis quality and great rubbers. This is almost 9 secs faster than a AMG A45S, that has 421hp. Even tho the AMG has a power ratio advantage ( 3.9 kg/hp to Meganes 4.7 kg/hp ), the trophy r whooped AMGs ass very hard. The 140kg between them does not make those 9 secs gap.
The price is a little nonsense, but it's a limited production car with lot of bespoke parts, and a collector's item.
And a lot more funnier... A45 is boring asf*ck.

Does anyone know if it's normal that there is a little delay in throttle response while going full throttle in the lower gears 1-3 or 4? I didn't have that with my Meg 3 RS 265 when changing the throttle mapping to sport or extreme. There was absolute instant response. Not with this one unfortunately. Too bad you can't change the throttle mapping like on the old 265
i was looking through used cars on a website and I found the third (03/500) trophy r car in a dealer in fukuoka, japan. as of writing this comment, it's still up for ¥9,324,000 FOB :)

@@xAntrim If this was a 1 minute lap time then yes 3 seconds is a lot however not for a lap time of 7:40 especially for a car that is 20hp less than a FK8 & about 80kgs lighter i would have expected a bit more than 3 seconds over such a long distance.
Respect for Renaultsport for finally giving this Megan the crash diet it deserves! I bet it’s as light as the 308 GTi now?! Just a shame about the hefty price premium! 😫
